  1. The rule book does not require officials to keep a visual count, but states that one should be made when possible. In a situation where a wrestler goes straight to his back from a takedown, I typically begin the count in my head until I get into position to look for the fall. Oftentimes in those situations, I begin my visual count at two or three.

    Good point

  2. Hey now...not my wrestler at all haha...don't go to Ravenwood or have any ties to the school, just saying I thought the call was a little bitt iffy, but of course kudos for the heritage kid for not giving up on the match, bad call or not he capitalized and really showed that the match is never over!

well that's good you don't have a dog in the hunt, it is unusual to see a 3-0 match change so drastically but it was the right call, the ref that made the call is what i consider one of the best in the state if he showed any hesitation by his actions it was probably out of surprise i mean how many times do u see a match swing that fast and that close to the end.

  3. I saw that match to. It was truly amazing. A tuff one to swallow. I agree that it was a 2 point near fall. HOWEVER, I didn't see the referee count twice. Though he should have counted twice, he only counted once. I can see how the coach could have a gripe. Tuff one to lose.

I saw a two count, just sayin....

  4. Grant Jones the 152 from Ravenwood probably should have medaled, questionable officiating cost him a spot on the stand

Nope I saw that match it was the right call. Not questionable at all don't get on here and complain when your wrestler gave up and got taken down and put to his back in less that 5 seconds that Heritage kid wrestled the whole six minutes.

  5. No doubt Wilco schools did a great job hosting the hospitality room last year, best at the state when you compare what was offered in chattanooga. The coaches did have to pay for the meals, so its kind of strange that the T$$AA would butt in and take control of this and I also agree that coaches and refs will probably not be as thrilled this year about what the T$$AA sets out for the coaches and refs to munch on.

    Tie Breaker:

??? For Finals match D1 AAA Soddy 30 to 25

There will be winners for each division and the points were added up to crown the CoachT Wrestling Pickem Grand Guru. So you can pick one tournament or make picks for all 3.

  7. Hixson was up 7-2 at time of DQ he had full control of the match, no doubt he was on in the semi's i thought it was going to go the other way but he came out and wrestled one heck of a match. Same for in the finals He did have some good breaks but when it came down to it he wrestled well and deserved every bit of where he ended up at.

  8. put on a pair of stripes and ref yourself..... most parents do not understand all the rules anyway. Like this past weekend this happened at a different tournament btw but a reversal was given at the edge of the mat, the wrestler who was being revered was completely out of bounds(all supporting parts) however the one that got the reversal was completely in bounds (all supporting parts), the parents of the wrestler being revered were yelling down at the official claiming that they were out of bounds. The rule states that one supporting part of both wrestler has to be out of bounds in order for it to be out of bounds. I say this b/c in the minds of those parents that ref was terrible however he made the right call. Here's a hint for parents if you don't see your coach going to the table to protest its probably the right call. just wanted to give my 2 cents since everyone else is.

  9. as a hillwood alum who wrestled on that 2005 team, i'm glad to hear that the program is back and heading into the right direction. I'm happy to hear that there is some excitement about the sport over there and it sounds like the head coach is a stand up guy who is working hard to change the culture over there. I wish him the best of luck.

  10. about 5 years back Hillwood and Hillsboro had a 17 inning game, had to be suspended due to darkness and later picked back up when the two met up later on in the season. Hillsboro ended up with the W

  11. I really do not like this thread because it takes away from the accomplishments of the other person that I did not pick in the other division, but anyway:

    103: Moseley-D-II

    112: Watson-D-II

    119: Biddy-D-I

    125: Doster-D-II

130: Hood-D-I (I think this would be toss-up with Cole Hayes though)

    135: Graham-D-I

    140: Duncan-D-II

    145: Hayes-D-II

    152: Cash-D-II

    160: Marchetti-D-II

    171: Young-D-I

    189: Croy-D-I

215: Patton-D-I (I do have to put Patton at 215 simply because he was the best at 215 this year but if the "rules" negate me from doing this I would go with White)

    285: Carethers-D-II

Hood has descisioned Hays twice in the past.

  12. I as a wrestling coach in Region 1 know most of the officials in our region and the 4 officials that called the region 1 tournament this weekend in Greeneville. It would be easy for me to get on here and be critical of these men, but in the same scope it would be easy for people to get on here and be critical of me and my job as a wrestling coach. We may not agree with calls that are made and the implications of those calls, but to say we have the worst officials in the state is not being fair to those men. I can look back on this weekend and rememebr when I thought a bad call was made and ofcourse it made me mad, but 15 minutes later you have another match and it is over and I can still keep a positive relationship with the officials. Like them or not you have to live and respect them and the job they are doing for our sport. I give the officials as much grief as the next man, but also understand that they along with myself are human and make mistakes everyday and should not be judged on that but rather the relationships that those officials have with us the coaches and our kids the wrestlers. I watch our officials interact with our kids and see how they have a great relationship with our kids and other coaches and yes there will always be situations occur that we will not agree with but as coaches we must look over those times and understand that is just part of the game. I do however have a growing issue with parents more these days than I have ever had with officials. I am shocked at the number of parents that believe that they are entitled to say or act however they want at these tournaments. I have had more problems from parents at home matches and away this season than any other year that I can remember of my 16 years coaching the sport. I would suggest that parents let the coaching be done by coaches and officiating be done by officials and you be the parent that is a positive support system and not one that is acting like a 12 year old mouthing off to everybody in the gym. These are just my opinions and ofcourse I imagine that someone will have thier own counterpoint which is to be expected.

    Well said, no argument here.

  13. Region 1 has some of the worst officials in the state. If you are a coach, wrestler, parent or just a fan you have to agree we need new officials badly. I know that no one is perfect, but in region 1 we have a few officials who think they are gods. And every coach in the region knows who they are. But every year the same three or four are calling at the region tournament. I beleave it needs to be up to a vote by the coaches who refs the most important tournament of the year in that region. Just wondering if I am alone in my thinking.

Sounds like you should join the association and don some strips yourself.

  14. please elaborate.....thanks

IT's on the back side of the arena, there's a hill running away from campus, not a whole lot of spots it will probably feel up some what fast with a bunch of chattanooga folks and UTC students, I guess that's just another advantage of having state in your back yard.

  15. Teams from Cleveland (reg 3) and Chattanooga (reg 4) have gone 1st, 2nd and 3rd the last 2 years and if the regions remain the same, there's a great chance it would happen again next year and the year after (Bradley is reloading next year and Cleveland and Soddy have a bunch of young guns on the horizon).

Actually Chattanooga/ Cleveland Schools have Gone 1,2,3 the past 3 years. In 2007 it was Soddy, Bradley, and Ooltewah, Last year, Bradley, Ooltewah, and Cleveland, and Last week, Bradley, Cleveland, and soddy.
