  1. Tough loss Wilson Central. Just curious about details of the game. Looks like halftime talks went longer than usual and the game started without you??

Not taking anything away from KW, just not familiar with their team.

Also, no 3's? Was it cold shooting or get the ball down low, no exceptions or your benched!!!?

Just curious to know. Keep your head up girls, we'll be pulling for you today.

    Good Luck!

Are the games being streamed over the internet?

    Thanks

  2. To my recollection they did pretty fair last year.

    The coach says:

"We dug our own hole," Wilson Central Coach Traye Aric said. "We knew what we were up against, but we're not doing things that good teams do. We've got guys laying out of practice, and so we've to find which guys are committed to this football team."

Is there some dynamic that has changed since last year. Do the players have something there to commit too?

    Just curious.

  3. This might have been said earlier but thumbs up to all teams that made it this far. After tonight, there will be some very good teams calling it a season. I know it takes SO much work and dedication from the coaches, players, and parents. So regardless of how this evening tiurns out for your team, you should all be very proud of your accomplishments and getting to this point in the season. I hope everyone has a safe and fun game tonight!

    Good Luck! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  4. but i highly doubt the wildcats will let them slip away again /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

In order to do that they need to share the ball more in the paint and quit forcing so many shots. When the Lady Wildcats scoring gets spread around, they usually win big. Plus the Wildcats didn't match the intensity of Mt Juliet across the board. All correctable before tournament time.

Yes, there's a big chance they'll meet again.

  5. I will just quote the famous coach of the past NBA Houston rockets ??“ Rudy T.: ???Don??™t ever underestimate the heart of a champion.???

One thing none of these board posters can measure: ???HEART?????¦??¦ Jasmine Hassell flat out willed her team (Wilson Central) to a state tournament title last year (although her team was arguably probably not the most talented in the field of eight). Jasmine James took a team that hadn??™t made it to a state tournament since 1928 (Bartlett) and willed them into the top 8 of 117 teams. (And Bartlett returns that entire non-assuming line up??¦.)

If there is any player or players that have the capability of strong arming a team into the state tournament and making some noise: you would have to easily say it would be Jasmine OR Jasmine (Hassell or James).

???Dominant player??? lead teams don??™t have to score 35 a night in a seven game series to beat you. They just have to perform well ONE time to send ya home (one and done).

Although Bartlett doesn??™t have the ???glit and glammer??? of some of the HIGH PROFILE teams: I wouldn??™t count the Lady Panthers out! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Don't really know about A and AA?

I'll agree with the quote 100% and it does say "champion" not the star of the team. My bet is any team that competes and wins the Gold ball in March will field 5 Champions on that court at a time. That's what it takes in my opinion to reach the summit. Yes it absolutely helps to have that remarkable, "dominant", player who gets the 5 or 6 "OMG did she just do that?" moments a game, but it takes 32 minutes of hard nose, in the trenches, guttin in out play by all 5 to bring home the hardware.

I saw that last year by Wilson Central who lost their star point guard right before the trip to the Boro. They pulled together and each stepped their game accordingly. That's what it takes and I see alot of that same work ethic in this team. At the beginning of the year they started rallying together when Jasmine was out for a while and it seems to be gelling again as they enter the final stretch. A good win over a talented LaVergne team last night showed again you have to pay attention to every player on the team. Just my opinion but I think they have lots of players with lots of heart, and thats why I think Wilson Central will be back at the Boro. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  6. Congratulations to Hillboro, excellent game.

IMHO, if you follow the Lady Wildcats, you saw this coming and they'll be more of these if things stay status quo. If I'm not

mistaken, 3 of the starters has 2 championship rings, 3 of the 4 seniors have signed and the last has an offer on the table. These girls know how to play, and have contributed significantly to the school and the program, but they need the proper ammo and proper motivation. Wilson Central's game plan is not like Colonel Sanders recipe, Hillsboro showed that. It appeared that WC's execution in the final minutes was more about not making a mistake and catching the wrath, rather than trying to win a game.

Still there's time and no real reason to panic, but someone better wake up and smell the coffee, or this will be a long season..IMHO

Keep your heads up girls, you've proven your winners. Good luck going forward! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  7. Should have kept with Hassell. Hassell is a very good player and one which many fans should see. As Hassell will go, WC will go. She is due the pub she has gotten.

"As Hassell will go, WC will go".

She is an outstanding player no doubt, maybe one of the best ever around here, but a little credit to the other players, in particular the other 3 seniors, Christopher, Wassen, McGee. I think Kobe might agree with me on this. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  8. Brentwood Academy was 15th in USA Today when Ravenwood thumped them. Worthless poll.

Possibly, I'm not a fan of polls myself, but the Lady Wildcats are very solid this year no doubt. Good Luck ladies, bring home another Gold Ball /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  9. This is the year. Coach Dean has our ladys primed and prepared. Practices have been going well with all of our experienced leadership the Lady Rines will be a shoe in for the region tournement. We have a tough non district schedule with a mix of traditional metro powerhouses and maybe even a Christmas tournement. But thats not the reason everyone is reading this thread, all of you are here for one reason ans thats for my pre-season predictions.

    1. LaVergne ( not even close )

    2. Wilson Central ( only because that coach still has his Daddy)

    3. Smyrna ( maybe last if they continue to get caught recruiting already been informed by the TSSAA )

    4. Beech ( still making everlasting gobstoppers)

    5. MJ ( who will that fool kick off this year )

    6. Gallatin ( only allowed to practice every other day Boys coach Bullying young coach )

    7. Hendersonville ( will be looking for a new coach just hope they dont try to take ours )

Interesting, I'm going to tweak that a bit IMHO:

    1. Wilson Central (returning 4 of the 5 State Championship players plus a healed Christopher returning. Good talent coming up too. Will need new and different motivation to avoid an 07 year)

    2. Smyrna (Always strong)

    3. LaVergne (We'll see)

    4. Beech (Gave WC fits last year)

    5. MJ (New Cave - How's that gonna work out?)

    6. Hendersonville (don't know that much about this team)

    7. Gallatin (Don't know)

    Should be an interesting season.

  10. http://www.kyprephoops.com/0809/May08BolusTNGirls.html

The first 25 are ranked in his order, the rest alphabetical. As usual there will be players left off, as usual if you have any names to add put them on here but don't bash anyone on his list.

IMHO - I would have all 5 of the AAA State Championship team members on there. Those starting 5 played every minute of the tournament. The style of offence at WC doesn't showcase all the players but the rest are making lots of noise in the summer. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  11. Who all is on this team?

Not sure of all the names but several from Cheatham County, one from Franklin County, one from Goodpasture and one from Wilson Central's team. Not a whole lot of size but it's been exciting to see game plans that get all the players in a position to make plays and score. That's why I enjoy watching their games and the team seems to have more fun playing that way.

  12. Smart move by Wilson Central. Mt. juliet provides enough competition can't have Lebanon build back up.

Bud "Opie" Brandon is trying to follow in that old coach from Shelbyville, that his dad couldn't beat, footprints. Ha!!! ha!! J/K! There are some similarities. Between Opie Tayor and Bud Brandon, that is!

Would have to physical similarities, don't think Opie would treat his Championship players the same. Where's Andy when you need him? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  13. Congrats to Wilson Central. You did this as a team!!

Absolutely! a team is 5 players and some are enjoying their victory out of the main spot light but their contribution on the court was vital to the victory. So congrats to those players who unselfishly helped bring home the Gold. Great job this year Ladies and we can't wait to see 4 Seniors (plus one more!) in action next year.

    Until next year Ya'll /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  14. Was this game close the whole way. WC I thought lost their PG, how were they able to control JJ. I know she got 29. What was the Key to the game...

It was pretty close most of the game. IMHO, the "Un-Sungs" at WC are pretty darn good as well and demonstrated it last night. They all played well as a unit, lots of good assists into Hassell. Guards defense against JJ was pretty good, but she is so talented.

  15. Whoa, spooky...got this one right again! MJ over WC 66-61.

Great game Lady Bears! Overcame a 10 point deficit (couple of times) and put the Mighty Kitties away. Brit Bell and Macie Gleaves the unsung hero's for the game although EVERYBODY contributed. MJ plays team ball, all 5 on the court can and will score.

The Bears started a bit tight but kept coming back, coming back. What a special team. Outstanding Senior leadership.

Congrats to Chelsea Burroughs of WC for keeping WC in the game.

FYI - Taylor Hall won District 9AAA Tournament MVP!

Good luck against Henry County on Friday, Bears!

Sounds like a great game plan, letting all the players score. Curious if WC makes any changes to head that way one day.

  16. So, it was WC coach's wife was the one tossed from the game.........that's not good, it's that type of officiating is what get fans rialed up & games out of control. I have never understood the mindset of a grown man that purposely call a bad game against young girls or boys in order for one team to win. Don't understand what's to gain from that OR how they could sleep at night knowing they played a vital role in taking a game.

Yes it was Bud's wife. We think she was actually sitting in the same area that the guy was sitting at last year when he got tossed. After the game the same ref was yucking it up with one of the Smyrna fans like I guess I did something good? He needs to bow out of Smyrnas games or hang the whistle up.

  17. I give credit to the Smyrna girls for stepping it up in the 2nd half. Lots of hussle by the guards and Diamond looked strong underneath as usual, but the game ball should go to the chewing gum smacking elder referee that wreaked havoc 3rd and 4th Qtr.

Maybe it's me but I believe the same thing played out this same game last year. IMHO he should excuse himself from this series from now on. Too many bad calls to list here, but the calls led to at least 10 points that I could recall. I know it may sound like sour grapes but this is the first time I've ever posted about a ref and bad calls or lack of calls. But since this played out like this last year, (and he had someone thrown out then too) I had to mention this. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I would be interested in seeing the foul count for each team, especially the 2nd half.

Congrats to Smyrna on the win.

  18. After playing against WC and Hassell, there is no way Shelbyville could beat WC 20 points or for that matter any points unless she did not get the ball any. Twelve points is 6 field goals and of the 12 there might have been 2-4 free throws but 6 field goals is 1.5 field goals a quarter. maybe she got in foul trouble. Maybe Shelbyville played ball control. Wilson must have had a lot of turnovers along with the 2-18 three point shooting. There is no way Hassell can get only 12 in a game like that. She controls the game.

Not that one, not that night.

IMO - If WC had a back up plan to Hassel getting shut down and the guards not dropping the 3 ball then they must be saving it because they needed it then. The other WC girls had more than their normal average but got those points the hard way. True WC's shot % couldn't hold a candle that night and turnovers were a problem, but that happens. I think they will rebound but should have a plan C for tournament time. Well see Tuesday night how they respond.

  19. I think you all hit it when you said commitment. I can be naive and say that it's AAU or it's just me but in actuality it's on those kids and parents being committed to putting the time in to improve their individual games as well as cohesiveness as a well oiled machine. I have 3 players that play AAU but that doesn't mean that they don't work in the gym with their team during the summer. They all have to grow with each other and learn each others tendencies. I had a disagreement with an AAU coach that stated that they won't get better playing with their team but that's wrong to think it's only about one or two players it's about the unit playing together to be successful. It's not like I just throw a ball out there and say go shoot. We work in the summer. I stress unity with my team especially during the summer. I'm actually working on a few ideas about camps for this summer, now. What can I do to make them better individually and as a unit. We work on individual game and all of the other team stuff that I think is needed to be successful during the school year. However, AAU makes them appreciate what they have back at their home schools. Sometimes it makes them wish other players were at other schools and then we have the controversy of players being recruited. So commitment really comes in to play at this point. If it is done correctly, Elementary coaching, AAU, middle school coaching, AAU, High school coaching, AAU should be the ideal ingredient for a successful program but it's not the cure all. If they aren't in the right programs to get a consistent fundamental teaching it will all be for nothing. Sometimes players pick up bad habits when they play AAU. It's easy to get a selfish mentality when, from what I've seen, in a lot of AAU tournaments. I noticed that it's mostly guard oriented. Not all AAU programs are like that but I did see a lot of that in the state tourneys and Nationals in Nashville this summer from various teams from across the country. The ones that went far seemed to have more balance in their guard and post play. Then their is the natural born talent that needs no AAU just some good fundamental coaching. That's my two cents but I'm sure many other's have great opinions about it as well.

I agree coach, especially about becoming a unit and learning each others tendencies. Do you experience friction or a disconnect from players who may come in to the school year from multiple AAU teams and want to take their AAU coaching and/or game into the school team/game? Is it a blessing or something that takes away from the program?

Bottom line though I think is the commitment no doubt. Congrats to the girls that stick to it /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Talk about your excellent employee one day!

  20. Right now, Wilson Central is the best in the state. I have seen them, and Mt. Juliet, Greeneville, and all Memphis has to offer. But the best does not always win state. Wilson Central does not always play their best game. Hassell might be as good as anyone in the state, but sometimes their guards forget they have such a great player and they get selfish to get their own. If they become a TEAM, and just play ball, I think no one can touch them, but since that will never happen, a lot of team have a chance. Apparently, Hillsboro is really good, the won at Mt. Juliet, something no team has done in several years.

Good post WestTN, I've said that before. It's great to have some very talented players but it still takes a team approach and mind set, and you don't have to look around too far to see teams with one or two outstanding players that aren't racking up wins on a regular basis.IMO good teams can get the ball to their good players, great teams play unselfishly. WC can do that and I think they played that way against Mount Juliet. To me, that is the key to going after another Gold ball for WC.

I have to admit I don't know much about Millington. What kind of competition do they face in their area?
