  1. I really hate to ask and not trying to spread rumors but I just heard that maybe Jessy Christopher, the point guard at Wilson Central hurt her knee again?

I know last year in the District 9 tournament she hurt it.

    Just asking.... /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Christopher stepped on the opposing team player's foot, tweaking the middle area of her leg a little. She was evaluated by her doctor and had no injury to her knee again, just some soreness. Probably scared her more than anything. She will return to next practice and action next Friday night.

  2. I saw Miss Hassel play as a freshman and she "nowhere" near the player Williams is.

If I remember correctly Hassel only averaged around 10 or 12 points a game when she was a freshman.

Lets compare Hassel as a freshman to what Williams is now. I think you'd have to give Williams a distinct advantage.

Only time will tell. But I think the sky is the limit for Ciya.

    Go Lady Bears

PS - In the Golden Bear Invitanional this weekend Wilson Central plays Hillsboro Sat. at 4:30.

Mt. Juliet plays Hunters Lane at 7pm.

The reason Hassel only averaged 10 to 12 points a game as you compare was due to having Tiereny Jenkins and Sara Williams by her side. Pretty impressive as a Freshman with that many hands touching the ball. Kellie Gassie was also in the mix for touches.

  3. thank you puma. i'll look into the site you gave me. sounds good to me. and yes, my doctor told me six months at the earliest. i also play volleyball so i hope to be back for jump training mid summer.... too soon?

I would go with what your doctor tells you and also talk to others that have had the surgery and their timeframe. Ask if they had complications. I can only tell you that by staying out 8 months helped my daughter not only rehab her knee, but work out the supporting muscle areas around the knee as well. The longer you rehab and wait the better you eliminate the re-injury factor. Make sure to check with your insurance about a machine that works your leg out while you are laying down and even sleeping. I cannot remember what it is called, but it will make your early post surgery work outs so much better. This machine raises and lowers your leg with different speed levels. Somebody will know what this machine is called.

  4. Thanks 55. I don't plan on rushing it. I want to be ok by my senior season for sure, so i'm gunna do whatever it takes to get to 100%. I would like to be back by my senior volleyball season though. It starts late august i think. mabe that's a more reasonable goal to look forward to.

  5. The information and opinions expressed by me are my experiences that worked best for my daughter's ACL. Please do your research and see what fits best for your situation. She tore her ACL last February 2008, had surgery in March, and came back in November 2008. As everyone has posted, perform your home exercises and do exactly what therapist requests. You need to research the timeframe of coming back from this injury. Most people have the notion that 6 months is the majic rehab time. My doctor's research studies show that those that come back in 4 to 6 months are 30% more likely to tear their ACL again. These latest statistics shown to me suggest 8 to 9 months as the timeframe to rehab before attempting to comeback. This will give a much lower percentage of recurring injury. It was tough for my daughter to sit out this summer for Exposure events, but now seeing her have an extra 2-1/2 months of aggressive rehab therapy, has shown a major beneficial difference in her physical and mental abilities.

One of my most important learning experiences in all of this is Core Training Exercises. Trent Nessler is an Aggressive Physical Therapist at Baptist Sports Medicine. He wrote a journal with these Core Training Exercises. The exercises give support to the important areas where many injuries occur. My daughter came back faster and more agile than she was before injury last February. You can go to www.aclprogram.com to learn these exercises and the research behind them. Dr. Damon Petty performed my daughter's surgery and he is out of Baptist Hospital in Nashville. Also has 2nd office in Lebanon called TN Orthopedics. He studied under Dr. Andrews in Birmingham that treats many Pro and college athletes. I hope your child has a complete and speedy recovery.

  6. Stewart was up by 1 point with exactly 1 second on the clock, no tenths added to it, just 1.00 seconds. Houston throws the ball in, the girl takes 2 dribbles and shoots and makes it from bout 15ft out. o and ya she caught it around the 3pt line. The ref counted the basket and Stewart loses. It is impossible to do all that in exactly 1 second. I just wanted to see what everyone thought about this

Clock should start once ball touches a player. It is not possible for two dribbles to be taken and get a shot off in 1 second. Sounds like home cooking to me.

  7. Well, well looks like a few of us are back at any rate!

How the thumpin' feel from Hillsboro at play day? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The secret ingrediant (maybe not so secret) for the Might Kitties last year was Chelsea Burroughs, so y'all better hope you replace her. Other thing is that JC has to respond to last year's injury...these knee things can be tricky as you know.

MJ will be young and hungry and over achieving this year, I hope everybody looks past them!

Looking forward to another dominant performance from 9AAA this year.

Metroman are the Lady Bears back in y'alls house again this year (Leroy Wright tourney)?

    Go Lady Bears!

[Keep drinking that MJ Kool-Aid MJ Cubbie]

  8. Where is Puma? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Puma is back.

  9. Yes, I hear they(WC) are getting some more transfer's next year! I also heard that some players from MJ quit the team, is this true anyone?

I am sure you are so connected with valid sources. Maybe one transfer will be a guard to replace the departure of the Burroughs kid. With all of the connections you seem to have about the future, you should get a job as a fortune teller at the Wilson County fair this summer.

On the MJ question, you should know since you have the inside on WC transfers. Why don't you quit with the conspiracy theories and call the ole MJ ball coach about the MJ players.

  10. She really was not deserving of the Miss Basketball award. When you look at the stats it leave a lot of people saying HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? It must be a middle TN thing. She should more impressive than what I have seen.

Are you smoking Crack with your above comments?

If you knew anything about basketball you would know that stats are not the only criteria to evaluate a great player. How about carrying a team in pressure situations, have double and triple teams and still executing. Hassell has a target on her back every time she touches the floor and still puts up the numbers. Try looking past your high school stats and review that she plays for the top Nike travel team (TN Flight - Silver). Hassell has played with and against the top division 1 prospects like Maya Moore - Connecticut, Crystal Riley - LSU, Shondra Barrett - LSU, and many others. Case closed.

  11. So, it was WC coach's wife was the one tossed from the game.........that's not good, it's that type of officiating is what get fans rialed up & games out of control. I have never understood the mindset of a grown man that purposely call a bad game against young girls or boys in order for one team to win. Don't understand what's to gain from that OR how they could sleep at night knowing they played a vital role in taking a game.

The referee's first name is Charlie. He is the older/tall ref that always calls in the zone of the 2 other refs. WC should have closed the door on the game, so no excuses, but he should step down from the game. It has definately passed him by. Congrats Smyrna. Great 2nd half.

  12. Yes, not only could each have two losses but one each to each other (home serve would have held)

    Help!

My understanding is that it goes to a 3 way coin flip. Odd man out is the 1st seed, then the 2 remaining coaches flip again for 2nd and 3rd seed. This information is not coming from a TSSAA rule book.

  13. Get a copy of the game tape and see for yourself..... OR Better yet get a copy of the Monday edition of the Lebanon Democrat.... Bud Brandon was quoted in the article saying "We took too many quick shots" "Never did work the ball and reserve it" "Several times we passed the ball once or twice and took a three point shot" I did make that statement and according to Bud I believe he confirms it. AND it was the fans seating around me that made the comment that WC had beaten Shelbyville 6 out of the past 7 games and had won earlier this year on Shelbyville's home court.

BOTTOM LINE.... Shelbyville played close to a perfect game. Wilson Central played their worse game of the year.... That combination I think spells the result of the game. I think the guard play of Shelbyville was definetely the difference. They combined for 49 points. Maybe this is a wake up call.... Sometimes you read your press clips and you get to thinking how good you are and something like this happens to wake u up. Time will tell. And Smyrna is waiting in the wings.

I do not need game tape. I have been around basketball for over 35 years. Where you were sitting and gathered information, again was 3rd party dialect. YOU did not hear players or coaches spewing this out. It seems you were so into the press clippings. Isn't it odd to you that Coach Burkey took full responsibility for his WC loss 1st time around. I did not see the same reciprication from WC in this press release. YOU are 100% correct that this should be a wake up call. Smyrna and MJ are are on the WC radar. But current calculation to date is MJ is 1-3 against WC and Smyrna. None of this matters until districts anyway, and WC will be waiting in the wings.

  14. I was there and saw it comming.

It was apparent WC was not mentally ready. Talk was WC had beaten Shelbyville 6 of the past 7 meetings and earlier won at Shelbyville and this was going to be a cake walk.

Shelbyville came to make a statement and they did. That being do not ever overlook the Eaglettes.

Hassle was totally frustrated and the WC inside game was non existent. WC got behind early. Made several turnovers in Shelbyville's full court press. And when they did get across the 10 sec line it was one pass and someone threw up a 3 point shot.

Next stop for WC is at Smyrna and the Lady Bulldogs have a score to settle as well. Have to see how WC regroups.

It is funny how people always hear things thru 3rd party. Whoever you heard say this game against Shelbyville was a cake walk is insane. The WC players never underestimate any opponent. And for the record there was not 1 pass then a 3 point shot. If you watched the game you would have seen 2 girls doubling down on Hassell. Same strategy Burkey used on other big girls like Hassell in the past. The posts have to come and meet the ball on passes. To get the ball inside people have to move without the ball when the defense is playing overagressivly. That is not the WC coach's mindset to have the girls move without the ball. This philosophy is what helped contrubute to the loss. Also,The guards did have an off night shooting, but certain limitations and restraints in WC coaching mentality limits the guards from playing with all of their skills. The coach should take full blame due to letting Shelbyville get that far ahead and not make adjustments. The help side defense was nonexistent. The players only go by what the coach instructs, so it was to the great game plan of coach Burkey and play of Ceny Phelps and Shapara that was WC's demise.

  15. WC very cold in the first half. Shelbyville completely took it to them. Hassel frustrated all night long. It appeared that WC might have been a little overconfident and Shelbyville had something to prove. Good plan by the Eaglettes.

I disagree that WC was overconfident. WC executed very poorly in all aspects of fundamental basketball. Shelbyville came prepared and ready to play. You are correct that Coach Burkey had an excellent game plan. Coach Burkey executed WC weaknesses to the fullest tonight, but furthermore, Shapara and Ceny Phelps turned in excellent guard play on both ends tonight.

  16. Congrats Chelsea.....good luck in the future.. All those 3's that you hit against LV last week must have sealed the deal for you. I heard Lipscomb coach was in attendance that night... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Puma and family are very excited that you received the scholarship you deserve and worked so hard for. I know it has been a tough two years, but now the pressure is off, and you can concentrate on the rest of the season and tournament time.

A Spider told me that Lipscomb has great after game meals. So now you can choose something besides PIZZA.

  17. I seen a lot of fouls they did not call, on both teams, plus MJ missed a half dozen LAYUPS, and blamed it on the basket. I picked WC to win to begin this post, because of Hassell. I enjoyed the game, those two teams always play each other tough. I just wish they would play at the Sommet, I had two knees in my back, three kids in front of me that could not keep still, and a guy next to me who wouldn't shut up. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

You should have sit on the WC side and only had two knees in your back, and many people who will not shut up, it is the Glade.

Just having fun with you 55.

  18. First of all, I think Hassel is probably the best player in the state at the post. I did not mean anything negative to her, it was more of a compliment to Miller. I think Miller did a great job of mixing it up with Hassel, I thought Hassel got intimidated at times, but that was only my observation. I will say this though, if Miller can play with Hassel, then MJ has a chance to knock off WC when it really counts. As far as fouls, if the ref calls it 5 times on you, then you sit. Last year Jenkins had to sit because of foul trouble, guess what happened? WC got beat! When Jenkins was on the floor, then WC won. Foul trouble happens, part of the game, and WC is fortunate Miller and Jorden fouled out, or they would have lost, but thats basketball. Have a nice day /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

What WC was fortunate about is the calls the refs made on two certain MJ players that throw high elbows and set moving picks. These refs actually called these fouls. It is now 2 games that Miller and Nixon have fouled out. Hassell has not fouled out yet this year. The reason is that she has elevated her fundamentals on footwork and how to defend, not reach and slap.

  19. Most of that was while Miller was sitting! At least in the game I watched! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I think this is also funny that you think Hassell was intimidated. Miller is a great kid, but to say that Hassell was intimidated is absurd. Do you think the reason that Hassell was in the game and Miller on the bench was due to her playing smart fundamentally. Hassell had lapses at times, but kept herself on the floor and in the game until the end.

  20. From what I've observed, they have to run the ship sometimes. One coach yells one thing and another yells something else in the heat of battle, what are they supposed to do? They look lost sometimes and I think this is the reason why. Need one coach / one voice, especially during the game.

This may be one of the reasons why Coach Fryer's team always looks better coached?

Still gets won by the team on the court, I'm going with the Cats at home!

I find it kind of funny on your comments about MJ being better coached. You must be on the inside to know the details of which you speak. MJ looks to be better coached in your eyes due to them practicing mostly year round, including summer or so called strength and conditioning. If you will look into the past, talent is what brought MJ their success aka A. Clark. The same set MJ offenses and defenses are text book, but adjusting from that once the game plan goes awry is what you need to review. Lets not forget coach Sims impact on the sidelines when he was there.
