  1. I would have to add Mark Griffin - Union City to that list.
  2. UC is assigned to Single A sports based upon school enrollment, not based upon how competitive they are in that sport. The better question is why Dresden is in AA instead of single A where they belong (in football) That question is best answered by school officials that have agreed upon that classification to be assigned to them in football, but not in their other sports.
  3. I agree about Cannon Whitby being one of the best players I have ever seen. Tennessee's state all time leading scorer would shoot at half court in a heart beat, average close to 40pts a game (without the 3pt line) and won a state championship for Obion County Central in the mid 1980's. Another special player I saw was when UC played Memphis Treadwell in Substate in 1989. A sophmore for that team lit us up for 36 pts or so, dunked on everybody, at 6'7" played point guard for that team - Anfernee Hardaway - the best Tennessee BB player I have ever seen.
  4. Never seen them in the title game when we played.
  5. I believe that larger school size does provide the opportunity for better athletes - simply more to choose from and select from the student body. However better athletes do not mean better teams. Humboldt and Manassas probably have better athletes than UC, but at least Humboldt and Lake County, etc... do not play better as a team than UC. UC simply does not quit, every player plays every play hard. A previous quote stated that Humboldt gave UC all they wanted for 3 quarters and fell apart in the 4th. That is why the game is 4 quarters, you play to the end. Humboldt has UC's number in the postseason, that's bullcrap. One game, last season, hasn't happened before, hasn't happened since. If your not first, your last.
  6. Oops, sorry about that /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> my mistake. Union / Union City pretty similar names.
  7. Marshall was never UC's all time leading scorer. Ronald Ward (current UCMS basketball coach) was the All time leading scorer for many years. He was passed by John Parham in 1988/89 season. I believe Stanley Caldwell surpassed him in his senior season. Marquis Weddle bypassed them all during his senior season and is the current UC all time leading scorer.
  8. Once again munstergirl makes a wonderful and prophetic statement "ugh, quit crying, ugh you be coach, ugh lake county better team, ugh Humbol_t will win." /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> As Ricky Bobby stated in his movie "If you're not first, you're last". Go UC!!
  9. Hard fought game by both teams. Both teams looked tired, especially UC, causing numerous turnovers, especially uncontested turnovers by UC. A. Coby had a great game as well as MJ. Congrats to both teams for their efforts, especially proud of our UC Golden Tornadoes for the win.
  10. All these Humboldt fans are talking about UC peaking too early while they peak during the post season. I forget, how many Gold Balls have Humboldt won lately. That will tell you who is peaking at the right times (hbt, munstergirl)(again HumbolDt is spelled correctly with a D)
  11. Hopefully Tony Wilkens will be back to full speed from his recent injury. Go UC!!
  12. I believe Coach Bowling and his staff will have every opportunity to excel. He will have the athletes, excellent facilities ( how many 1A teams, heck 5A teams have an indoor football facility and field house like UC does ) and the full backing of the UC faithful. Historically, there has not been much transistion between county and city schools as far as students transferring. Even when the county wins were threadbare in the past and their facilities were pretty rough (up to the 2000's) county kids did not come to UC because of sports (or vice versa) There is a perception of race that causes a parent to allow a child to transfer, not because of a better athletic opportunity, but because of race issues. This is nothing new, it has been going on for decades between UC and the county.
  13. Hello everyone, this is my first posting. As a former UC graduate, I am definitely very proud of our boys basketball program. They have won 2 considerable Christmas holiday tournaments ( very impressive for a 5A team, much less our very own 1A UC team ). The UC team continues to show class and good gamemanship on the court - you can never fault them for their hustle and never - say - die - attitude. These are the traits that make them excel on the court. Every team has athletes like UC, most teams are taller, and most coaches have more hair than Shane /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> , but on the court, few teams can match the intensity that we have. You can fault the rabid UC fans and all our "trash talking", but heck, we back it up! Purple and Gold / ucdiditagain - you have another guy in your corner. Purple and Gold Pride, every player, every play!
