  1. Word around DC is that our season is over. Could be wrong but that’s what I just heard. Schools switched to fully remote learning starting tomorrow and cases are on the rise.

EDIT: I would like to state that this is just early texts and posts I’m reading and seeing. I’m pretty sure our last game is for sure a forfeit. I really really hope I end up being wrong about playoffs as well.

This group only plays basketball except the Jones kid (football) Young (baseball). All the rest basketball only, the culture wont change until they get a chip on their shoulder and look forward to the games against Baxter instead of dreading them.  Complaining about the coach or chirpin in someones ear won't get it done.  I believe they've got the talkin part down.  To me mindset is gonna be biggest factor.  I'll agree their district schedule is solid but its no different than it has been for a while with the exception of H2O town, I'd disagree that its 3rd or 4th priority, baseball team has only 16 kids on it, football ranges anywhere from 35-50 (50 being a high year).  Just my humble opinion, talent is lacking and that's not going to improve without hard work, but your right the culture definitely needs to change.

I’m not talking sheer numbers here, or about who is on the team playing multiple sports. We’ve got kids focusing on other sports because they want to, or because they’re only wanting to play two. So basketball is the one who gets the axe. Not complaining, just the way it is. Take Isaac Knowles for example. He was a really good basketball player the few times I got to watch him in middle school. But he’s chosen to focus on football and baseball.

Long story short, kids who are good enough to make a big impact on this team are choosing other sports. Just part of it.

I will say that I personally think we have two good coaches. Just need to let Sanders do his thing and not let people interfere.

I don't have a horse in the race, but looking below,  DC has been going backwards for some time. There are more Ollies walking through the doors than Jimmy Chitwoods. There was a reason the previous coach left, and he was a HOMETOWN guy . SO, my though would be , take what you have, and improve on their weakest skills.

SO , I guess I agree with the Moon man.

2013-2014: 16-14, (4-10 in district, 6th) lost to Cannon in district tourney.

2014-2015: 19-15, (3-11 in district, 7th) lost to Macon first round of district tourney side note... 4 wins against Boyd Christian and got 5 more wins against home schools during HOF games, 4 games in one day

2015-2016: 13-20, (1-14 in district, 8th) lost to Cannon in first round of district tourney. 5-0 after HOF week playing 3 homeschools in one day.
2016-2017: 7-20, (3-11 in district, 7th) lost to Smith County first round district tourney.
2017-2018: 13-14, (6-8 in district, 6th) lost to Watertown first round district tourney
2018-2019: 6-23, (4-10 in district, 7th) lost to Upperman in district quarterfinals
    2019-2020: 7-21, (3-11 in district, 7th).

Having an overall winning record is good but does it matter if you still finish 3-11 and at the bottom of the district and lose in first round?

We are past the era of schedule padding. I think a lot of that was Cope. Glad to see him having success in Coffee, though. But I think the district slate was draining for him here at DC.

As for the present, I don’t think we are on some sort of unstoppable downhill slide. Just part of being at a school where basketball is third or fourth priority behind baseball, football, maybe even soccer. Kids are just interested in other sports right now. Maybe this young group can change that culture.

No disrespect meant towards Delkalb but they have zero chance of beating Macon County this year.

I bleed black and gold but most DC fans know that tonight’s W was almost assuredly the last of the season, barring a miracle.

This group of seniors has been one of the most accomplished in school history though and we are definitely going to miss them!

Ferrell has to be very near 1000 points and is coming back for two more years and hopefully fellow sophomore Kennedy Agee will finally get to suit up in the black and gold for two full seasons as well. 3-4 other good role players coming back next season might keep us competitive. Depth worries me but it also did this season.

DeKalb wins in a strange ending as York fouled with a lead and tried to get the last shot

FYI: Macon could lose tonight and playing Upperman in Putnam County is not going to be easy for anyone nod nod wink wink

    DeKalb at Sequatchie

    York at Cumberland

I agree. But, to me, beating Upperman is slightly smaller miracle than beating Macon. Especially in an elimination game. Both are long shots though, no doubt. And we definitely don’t need to be looking ahead and slip up in Dunlap. Our last trip down there didn’t go so well, and I felt like we were the better team then as well.

  6. Really bad position to be in. If DC wins, they get revenge on York for two losses. But our reward would be to most likely get on the same side as Macon. Unless UHS pulls the upset which I don’t think will happen.

    1-Cumberland

    2-Sequatchie

    3-Bledsoe

    4-Marion

6 point lead for Seq tonight in final at halftime but couldn’t overcome an injury early in third quarter to a main player, and heavy foul trouble. Marion led Bledsoe by double digits but things went downhill late especially after a main rebounder fouled out.

How do you see region playing out? Do disrespect intended but I think it will be tough for 7AA..

I’ve heard through the last few years people talk about the talent that Cannon has had but they haven’t even made it out of the district and not even had winning seasons. Where’s the tons of talent at 6aaabasketball?

In my opinion they HAVE had talent and underperformed. When they first came to Smithville and I realized who all they had returning I thought our little winning streak over them was toast.

  9. Kauffman (I’m sure I misspelled that) could draw a foul any time she wanted to drive to the rim. Ferrell had two early fouls and was guarding her. I just feel like the coach doesn’t recognize these situations and take advantage...even if Ferrell isn’t scoring for us that’s still another decent defender and ball handler on the bench if you get her in foul trouble.

Again, coaching won that game for us. Just my humble opinion.

  10. DC wins a game they definitely didn’t deserve over Smith in OT. To me, it looked like smith had decided before the game that if we were going to beat them, we would have to do it from 3. They packed the paint. And it almost paid off. Our shots were not falling at all.

they have one who can play d2/naia,started with region semi final game out coached a much better team, I think "reality" has set back in and people expected more .

Expectations were realistic. We have another Sophomore player just as good as Ferrell who’s played a total of like five games her entire high school career due to two ACL tears. We knew when that happened, and some role players not trying back out, that our bench would be thin and thus this year wouldn’t be like last year. I’m proud of what we have managed to accomplish this year. Other than the buzzer beater by York at DeKalb, we’ve won every game we should have.

It’s game 4 in district play coming up Friday night who do you like?

    York vs. Smith

    Watertown vs. Upperman

    Dekalb vs. Cannon

    Macon vs. Livingston

    My picks:

    York over Smith by 15-20

Upperman over Watertown by 20 plus

    Dekalb over Cannon by 10-15

Macon over Livingston by 25 plus

DeKalb will either beat Cannon in a close game, or lose by double digits. I think you’re selling CC short.
