DID YOU MAKE THE CUT THIS WEEK?????

Click here for Week 5 Rankings for Division 1 & 2.

*** Rankings are based largely on information from last year’s performance, current wins/losses, and head to head competition with other ranked members. As the season progresses and wrestlers move weights your ranking may move up, down, or off the rankings all together based on the competition in that particular weight class.***

  2. Submission grappling would be probably as close to mma as you will ever get. As a sanctioned USA Grappling Club and one of only a VERY few in all of the 5 state SE Region I have ran a Submission Grappling HS tournament. It is sanctioned under FILA World rules and it relatively safe. They do not allow any neck wrenches, small joint manipulation as well as knee bar or ankle locks. They want to protect HS kids from long term damage to any critical joint (mainly the neck). As of now under the USA Grappling (USAW)you can run submission grappling tournaments all the way down to 7 years old. There are a number of subgrap orgs out there running tournament (abudabi-NAGA, etc) that are running tournaments but they all have different rules and interpretation. FILA is unifying rules on a global level to have a unified set of rules that no matter where you grapple in the world everyone is participating in events with the same rules and scoring.

This system could be used in HS and I would support it. I would however have to not support full MMA. Part of the training regiment for MMA requires strong maturity and the ability to spar in controlled sparring scenarios and HS kids for the most part don't posses this ability.

    Just my thoughts.

  5. If you have not gotten this already, How about setting up an excel spread sheet and putting this together. I am not very good with excel, lol. It would be great to have all the tournaments and director contact info as well so that we can continue to grow wrestling in tn.

The only thing I can think is to maybe get it to Chris Vandergrif from the TN HOF and see if he can circulate one and I can add it to a master TN tournament list. I would like to only get High School, but I guess having a calendar of ALL events wrestling wouldn't be bad either I.,E HS, MS, AAU, and USA..

(All Friday- Saturday- Sunday Tournament Events to start and maybe next year a full calendar of ALL Duals, Tri's and Quads along with tournaments)

Last year someone had compiled a list already, I think the Coach from Franklin HS did and got it to me, but not sure I cant remember...

  6. Hey trick I see explanations for most weight classes and rankings which is good, but I don't see one for why Anton jones is ranked at 170. Maybe you could help me with a reason

I post the rankings as I am the Vice Chairman for Tennessee Wrestling and also the Web Master but I dont actually do them. Kenneth Hammonds and Josh Bosken actually do the countless hours of information gathering across the states from what the coaches report as well as what they may know first hand. They also discuss between themselves as they both cover 2 of the hotter areas in the state which is Middle TN and the Chattanooga area. Not to say that the east and west aren't strong, I'm saying that due tho the numbers of schools in these areas there is simply more activity and needs more people to be involved to make sure they are as accurate as can be. If there is no information on an individual in the rankings it may simply be because they just dont have any from the coaches and are going off match results only.

Does this help answer your question?

    Thanks for the inquiry

  7. I would like to put on the TWF calendar like last year the list of ALL HIGH SCHOOL tournaments within the state this year. We get request often about not knowing what is going on around the state and where to go to watch some good tournament wrestling. Last year i listed every tournament up till state on our calendar page. If anyone has assembled a list of high school tournaments throughout the state please post it on here or email it to me so i can post it. NO PARTIAL LISTS PLEASE

    Performance Psychology

Training the Mind for Competition – Dr. Tiffany Breeding

This year, Lion’s Pride will be elevating their game. All elite competitors know that 90% of success on the mat is mental. At Lion’s Pride we are dedicated to developing the complete athlete. With this said, Dr. Tiffany Breeding, Nashville-based performance psychology consultant and youth sport specialist, will be offering a series of dynamic and interactive mental training sessions to our athletes. In just four half hour sessions of intensive training, athletes will be armed with the skills and techniques they need to face any level of competition, and excel. Goal setting, attention/concentration training, visualization and anxiety reduction are only a few of the essential skills they will gain from this invaluable mental conditioning program.

    Top Level Technique

Coaches Stephen Petricca & Charles McTorry will be teaching top level training in core fundamentals for Advanced and Novice groups

Advanced (More than 5 years wrestling)

Collegiate level drilling while working on critical success factors in movement and the dissection of sound fundamentals. We don’t want to retrain the elite athlete, we do however want to focus on tweaking of technique to insure successful flow and finishing to scoring.

Novice (less than 5 years of wrestling)

will work on the core fundamentals of wrestling success. It is not important to be wide in knowledge and shallow in practicality but to have a narrowed focus and be deep in execution on the mat. We will teach the fundamentals of the highest percentage moves that will score on the mat consistently creating confidence and stability in their wrestling game plan.

    Performance Nutrition

Teaching critical nutritional success factors for the athlete who needs to gain, maintain, or lose weight. Instruction by Stewart Breeding – Focus Fitness

Fueling for peak performance and the importance of hydration. Nutrition fundamentals (e.g., basic do’s and don’ts, what to eat and when). Cutting weight safely. Strategic nutritional planning for achieving goal weight (food Journal). The best “Power†foods, sample meal plans/choices. Pitfalls of improper nutrition and poor planning (e.g., Catabolic states, ketosis, eating disorders)

The Psychology of Performance – Dr. Tiffany Breeding – The MindBody Doctor (www.themindbodydoctor.net)

    For Athletes:

What is mental toughness? How can I develop and maintain an elite Athletes Mindset? How can I overcome anxiety and nervousness before a big match? All of these are valid questions and the good news is, they all have answers. Dr. Tiffany Breeding will offer her expertise to address the most common challenges for elite youth competitors. Her presentation will include an overview of performance psychology, an introduction to designing a mental skills program and some key strategies and tips that athletes can begin to integrate into their own training, on the mat and off.

    For Parents:

We all know youth sport parents are their athletes number one fans, greatest supporters, and often can be their biggest critics. In an attempt to provide the highest level of training and elevate the performance of their young competitors training hard often becomes over training. Dr. Breeding will offer some invaluable suggestions for helping your athlete stay motivated, continually increase performance both mentally and physically, and avoid the setbacks of overtraining. Topics covered will include: The power of positive psychology, communication and recognizing the symptoms of burnout/overtraining.

  13. YouTube would be the best repository for those video's because its free. That being said you can create a user site on YouTube then link it back to Facebook. Furthermore I can create a portal through the Tennessee Wrestling Federation website for all historical video's. Your best bet would be the last option as people can always come to the TWF for video's and historical data. The Hall of Fame info already resides here as well, seems to make sense. I can help whom ever needs it to get a YouTube site set up kinda like this one http://www.youtube.com/user/tennwrestling?feature=mhum
