So what exactly is the problem? State is always seeded this way right? Trust me I feel for Pete (I consider him a friend) but LAST year Summit was beat by DB and this year they are having to pay for that. That does suck but it is the way it's always been. This is not going to change and even if it did how would it change? Who would seed the tournament that would please the whole state? Someone was going to have to wrestle Cleveland first round and this year it's going to be Summit. I can't speak for Pete but I would think the speech from Pete would be to go win this match if they want a chance to win a championship. Every darn year people complain about brackets and seeding and it never changes. Im a Cleveland guy and I can tell you with 100% certainty that any time my son wrestled and he drew the #1 seed he was told to go win that match because thats who he came to wrestle anyways. Maybe the solution is true second?? Heck I don't know....my son's HS career is over and all I can tell you all is that this is the part of State that I do not miss. Win and EVERYTHING else will take care of itself. Good luck and safe wrestling to all the teams!
The issue is the seeding criteria needs to change.
The issue is you shouldn't seed a team this year based first and foremost on last years finish.
I know Pete as well and I'm sure hes saying something to the effect of "we face them in the finals or we face them first round, doesnt matter to us, we'll beat them no matter what round etc" He's a winner and that's his mindset. I coached under him with that program for 5 or so years. He's a great coach and good guy. Venues have changed, tournament formats have changed, now its time we band together and change this as well.
Can someone, anyone, give me one single reason why Halls or Dobyns Bennett should be seeded above Summit that doesn't include "they finished higher than them last year at the state tournament last year"?

By your logic returning state placers shouldn't be seeded in the individual tournament based on previous results. Would you advocate for that too?
We aren't talking about the individual tournament. We're talking about a team tournament where the dynamic and structure of the teams are different each year. The point stands with the Dobyns Bennett example.
However, that said, I think there are other criteria that should go before previous years results in the individual tournament. Head to head being one of them.

I think my biggest issue is using last years results to seed this years teams.
Take DB for instance, they lose two of their best wrestlers one being a state champ. They're not the same team this year they were last year and shouldnt be seeded based off last years team.

Not the 5 before that.
But valid point
It’s done and can’t be changed but the criteria solely just off the year before. Not the previous 5.

Is division mentioned in the criteria? Since head to head isn’t why couldn’t Halls have been 1 and Cleveland 2?
if you want to be absolutely technical Halls won theirs before Cleveland did.

In all honesty… does it really matter?
It matters for the kids who put hours in the road and weight room. It matters to the parents who poured money into their kids and the Summit program. It matters to the rest of the community who supported them through their lows and celebrated their highs. A fair draw always matters.
it may not matter to you but to be honest I don’t give a sh** what matters to you and what doesn’t.

It’s always been like this. And if Summit does well then it’ll be better for them next year? I get it we all knew someone would get butt hurt over it. But it is what it is. We all get it that Summit has been ranked #2 in public all year. But…they do go loosely off of last years finishes.
I’m very well aware of how it’s seeded. I’m saying it’s not done right. Also, “butthurt” is a reach. Every person who’s followed the sport in any capacity this year can tell you that match in the first round is wrong.

No…
due to DB beating them last year in the duals. I mean if all honesty Bradley should be #2 if they (T$$AA) are going to halfway seed. I mean even though they are down they still finished runner-ups. But it is what it is.
They SHOULD be on the other side…if Tssaa actually gave a s*** about wrestling and seeded this thing the way it should be seeded.

I’m not sure I’ve seen a draw this bad ever.
Another reason why these things need to be sat down and seeded properly.

i don’t know if this has ever happened before. i’ll be interested to see what they end up doing.
I’ve been advised it has happened before. When I asked when I was told, “heck a few times”.
we’ll see tomorrow probably. Monday at the latest id guess.

DB or Halls have to get moved to the top. And with Halls being a higher returning placer, they have to be the 2 seed. meaning DB would have to be moved , otherwise we will have 2 teams from the same region on the same side
I think we’re more likely to have two from the same region on the same side before they remove the ones who actually get seeds.

there is a bit of a predicament. The only criteria in bracket placement is returning medalist as region winners, and then, being the opposite of someone in your region. Cleveland, Halls, and Dobyns should be seeded 1-3.. which would put Cleveland on top and Halls/DB on bottom. With Bradley and Cleveland being in the same region, Bradley would also go to the bottom. that leaves one slot left for the bottom, but we have two sets of teams from the same region left to place…Summit/Brentwood and Arlington/Bartlet. My assumption is, to avoid two teams from the same region being on the same side, DB would get moved to the top side with Cleveland. making it:
Cleveland, DB, Summit/Brentwood, Arlington/Bartlet
Halls, Bradley, Summit/Brentwood, Arlington/Bartlet
Db is on the bottom. They’ll be seeded 3. For sure. Before anything else they’ll make sure the ones who are seeded will be.

No science hill or Maryville
Apologies . You’re 100% right. It’s Saturday night and I’m a couple beers in .
So Cleveland on top. Dobyns Bennett, Knox Halls and Bradley on bottom. Brentwood and Summit 50/50 and Arlington and Bartlett 50/50

So Halls DB, Brentwood or Summit, Bradley Arlington or Bartlett? If summit is on bottom hopefully you’re 7 seed lol
It’ll be Cleveland, Science Hill, and Maryville guaranteed on top. Knox Halls, Dobyns Bennett and Bradley Central guaranteed on bottom.
Summit and Brentwood is 50/50 and Arlington and Bartlett is 50/50.

It’s random right?
Summit didn’t medal last year. The only criteria is that threyre separated from Brentwood.

See even it confuses me. Just because of how things go with winning the Region(s). Which I get.
Cleveland will more than likely get Brentwood and Summit on top half?
While DB, Bradley, and Halls on lower half? Or will T$$AA just say “screw it” like they’ve done in the past and just lump everyone on the lower half?Cleveland 1 seed. Halls 2 seed. DB 3 seed.
I think we may see the state finals in top half. It’s a 50/50 shot. Summit could very well be on the top half with Cleveland.

Well it definitely wasn’t in defense of Cleveland not recruiting so it came off as a #### fired. Maybe not though.
So if someone doesn't defend Cleveland you target them for no reason. Got it.
This is a new low.

It was a reply to his post. Truth hurts. Hopefully I’m motivating teams.
There wasn't a reply to this. You called Brad out out of the blue for absolutely no reason.
1 hour ago, TheTreyB said:You cant get on here talking about cleveland....summit is recruiting mid season ha
We're all fine playing into your dialogue about Cleveland but going out of your way to start fights with someone who wasn't a part of your quarrel to begin with is childish and petty.
Btw, Brad has an outstand reputation with the Cleveland staff. Do better.

We smoked summit by 25
This is just getting ridiculous at this point. Do the entire board a favor and just go away. You're picking fights with people for absolutely no reason at all.

I don’t think this is an uncommon occurrence for these two.

Summit gets Cleveland in Round 1

You think this is the first time this has happened? Where the CLEAR second best team in the state has caught the first best team in the state first round (or second round before they stupidly added a sectional)?
Go ask Hamm about that. It happened to Wilson Central two or three years in a row.
