  1. MY INTENT IS NOT TO DOWN CR, IF YOU LOOK AT ALL THE POSTS I MADE I GAVE CR CONGRATS FOR A GREAT SEASON AND THE 8th GOLD BALL. THE GC TEAM YOU KEEP SAYING CR COULD BEAT ALSO WENT UNBEATEN. AND PEOPLE GETTING ON HERE SAYING CR WOULD WIN ONLY HURTS THE GC GIRLS. THE FACT IS SOME FANS STARTED ALL THE TALK ABOUT WHO WOULD BEAT WHO. THE BEST THING FOR ALL TEAMS INVOLVED WOULD BE TO LEAVE THINGS ALONE. CR WON THE 1A GOLD BE HAPPY WITH THAT. GC WON THE 2A GOLD BALL BE HAPPY WITH THAT. LET THE GIRLS ENJOY WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. MARGIN OF VICTORY MEANS LITTLE IF YOU HAVE A COACH WITH CLASS, BECAUSE MOST WILL PULL OUT THE BETTER GIRLS EARLY IF THEY SEE A BLOW OUT . NO GOOD COACH WANTS THE HURT THE KIDS FROM THE OTHER TEAM BY WINNING BY 30 OR 40 EVERY NIGHT. CR IS A CLASS ACT SO TO THE FANS THAT KEEP DOWNING GC YOU ONLY HURT THE REP OF THE REST. ONCE AGAIN CONGRATS TO CR ON A GREAT SEASON. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

I concur. I would never say anything derogatory about Gibson County as they had a great team this year and deserved their title. This entire thread was only initiated to incite bashing back and forth. It is a worthless piece of internet garbage and should be pulled as it has zero relevance. We will NEVER see this CR team play again nor will the GC fans ever see theirs again, at least not this version. It's all fun to speculate about a game before it's played and then see what happens but after it's over it's over. Continuing this discussion in the manner in which it is currently being discussed only hurts all of these great teams and their players. All the '09 state champs are superb and all deserve our respect for their accomplishment this year. Belittling one or the other is immature and certainly does not display the type of sportsmanship "adults" should want to instill in the young people that play this game.

  2. SO THEY PLAYED NO 3A TEAM. JUST AT SUMMER CAMP WHEN COACHES ARE NOT AS WORRIED ABOUT A WIN AS SEEING WHAT THE GIRLS DO. WHAT 2A TEAM DID THEY PLAY THIS YEAR (NOT AT SUMMER CAMP). /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

You "adults" are so worried about trying to tear CR down that you are actually spending time in posting stats, making ludicrous assumptions, and acting like jealous children. How pathetic! Some of you really need to grow up and just let all of these girls enjoy what they've accomplished. Opinions here on who's the best are completely irrelevant since the season is over. Those "As" as in A, AA, AAA only denote school size you know. They have nothing to do with team talent at all so saying a single A can't compete with a AAA is, well, stupid but of course stupid rules this thread. There can only be five players on the floor per team so how many As you have means nothing on the court. This years CR team could compete and beat any team in the state and, of course, they could also be beat as anyone could. They were a very big team, very quick, with all five starters able to consistently shoot the 3. In all four games against AAA CC and AA Stone, CR blew them out for three quarters and let the subs finish up in the fourth even though the opposition kept in their starters who significantly closed the margin by the end of the games. As a matter of fact, the starters were out of almost all of the games by mid third quarter so their 26 point margin of victory for the season could have easily been 40. They were a very special team that only comes around every now and then and those of us who cheered them on will always have fond memories of the '08-09 "Dream Team" that went 39-0 and dominated the state tournament. They will never be forgotten.

  3. Wow...Do not see this happening at all. Faulkner was ALL they had against PC so I imagine that this will be the same thing tomorrow, and Madison is in for one long journey to the Silver ball. Clarkrange is going to win this game by at least 25 although I would not be the least bit surprised if they take it by 35+ with a running clock in the 4th quarter. I mean not surprised AT ALL...it is going to be that bad. 39-0...not too bad. Clarkrange could win the AA state tournament I believe and may be able to make a run at AAA, who knows? Anyhow, good luck to the Buffs tomorrow, even though luck is not something they need.

Clarkrange has already beaten Livingston Academy this year by 19 and Livingston is playing for the State AA Championship tomorrow so yes, CR could certainly win the AA title and compete for the AAA as well. They are an outstanding team and to drop Forrest by 17 and now Oliver Springs by 27 is very impressive. I do not envy the Madison team tomorrow.

  4. Good luck LADY BUFFALOES from Hogeye!! I think all of that talk on the single A Miss Basketball thread may motivate these girls to really put a thrashing on Oliver Springs. There was a Christopher fan ??¦KGM??¦ that said this I sat with one of the coaches scouting the CR/JC game in Gainesboro and she said there wasn't anyone on the floor capable of playing D1 and she was 100% correct. KGM??¦ you can say Kayla turned down all these big D1 schools to go to UTC but the fact is the Upper Cumberland puts out plenty of athletes that play for D1 schools. Your opinion of a D1 School is like UT/UConn/LSU I have news for you??¦.those are just the big ones. Don??™t try to make these girls from Clarkrange & Jackson Co. look bad to try to make Christopher look better.

    Get it done Lady Buffaloes.

I don't even know how to respond to this. When I said D1 I actually meant major D1 programs not mid-major such as Tech, Austin Peay, UTC, etc. I have already clarified that. Christopher is a 5' 8" guard who can play anywhere. She had offers from many major D1 schools but chose UTC for her own reasons. The other girls I was talking about from CR and JC are post players who, though great players, lack the size to play post at any major D1 school. That's not a knock on them. I cetainly would never try and make them bad. They cannot help how big or small they are. Plus, I am a huge Clarkrange fan and look forward to seeing them secure the 8th state championship in the school's history (I hope). Good luck Lady Buffaloes and bring back the gold.

  5. I watched both OS and clarkrange play today neither of them looked impressive throughout the game, OS started out hot, but clarkrange started out bad, but the story was flipped with other half's.. I feel that KC is one of the premier players in the state, as is the phillips girl as well. But the difference in the game will be if OS' bench can step it up and stay competitive with clarkrange's bench. I think that this one will come down to the wire, but free throws, turnovers, and who ever makes the most plays is what will decide it down the stretch. Im taking OS by a few in a nail biter.

CR beat Forrest by 17 points. That's impressive considering the pressure defense Forrest applies. Forrest had only lost three games to this point. They are a very good team. Having watched all 37 consecutive victories this year I will say that CR did not look as smooth and machine like as normal but again, the defense they faced today was very tough. The CR margin of victory this year is 25 points. They really have not been pressed and have beaten OS fairly soundly both times they met this year. Even in the ten point victory at OS, CR was in control of the game throughout. Now that the first game of the tourney is over and the nerves are put to rest (I hope) I think CR will beat OS for the third time and go into the championship game on Saturday. We will see.

  6. Ok lets go by CoachT....As of right now Jackson County is #2 (still, so there must be aomething to it) and has the #1 toughest schedule in A ball. they have been ranked #2 pretty much the whole season by the AP writers...Lets call Coach Brown and tell him his team in...Who are we gona tell to go home?

Come on it is what it is? Have your team win 3 and be done! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Well, saying that is about as dumb as a door nail. JC didn't make it to the final eight so any discussion of them is moot. Obviously I now see why the blind draw is the way to go because seeding a massive number of teams like 8 would require two sets of fingers to do so why make someone's little brain smoke. How dumb a thing this has become. In "normal" tournament play anywhere the best teams are rewarded by receiving the best seeding in the tournament.

  7. Apparently KGM is saying he feels Forrest is second best....Looks to me like he'd be happy to take the 'silver ball' and not even show up......You gotta win three games to get the 'gold ball'. Who really cares in what order you do it? .............It takes a good team and lots of luck to win a championship........... Sometimes some of that luck comes in the blind draw.............If you have any faith in your team at all, why would you want it any other way? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

More chanting from the peanut gallery. I am not a fan of Forrest but I do respect the program and the tremendous accomplishment they've achieved in going 29-3 this year. The same for the 36-0 Lady Buffaloes of Clarkrange. These two are #1 and #2 in the state of the teams left and both deserve to have a chance to play each other in the final to determine the one champion. The only ones being cheated here are the athletes themselves because you're telling them that the victories in the regular season mean nothing. Just get to state and hope that the draw comes out OK. I understand the reasoning behind the draw but you should at least determine who is #1 and who is #2 and put them in opposite brackets. Anything to make the final game legitimate. Of course how hard can it be to seed the final eight teams? It should have no bearing on sub-state/sectionals, region games, etc. Just look at the eight in the state tourney and seed them based upon whatever system you decide to use. The one here at Coach T would be fine with me. At least have a basis to rank from. A blind draw is a cop out but at least everyone knows it is unbiased which is the only positive about it.

  8. And thats probably a good thing.. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Ha, ha, ho, ho. It's all fun and games until somebody gets poked in the eye /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> You have to seed teams in a tourney to make it a legit event. This year both CR and Forrest deserve the opportunity to play in the state final just like JC and CR did last year. When the best two meet in the first game something's broke. Again, if someone cannot seed a measily 8 teams then there is a big problem somewhere. The blind draw is stupid.

  9. the district and region are based off of regular season standings and ditrict tournaments outcomes respectively. That is clear cut no biased opinions to influence the matchups whatsoever. There are flaws no matter hwo you set it up whether it be a blind draw or a seeding system. if you really think about it even college's set up is not completely fair especially in the women's game

All I can say is that if a governing body cannot seed 8 measily teams for the biggest tournament of the year then that is sad. No one can question that this year the two best will meet in the first game. That's not an opinion it is a fact so how fair is that to CR and Forrest? Many, many, many ranking/rating systems exist. Pick one and use it so that a legitimate champion is determined. After all, that is the goal isn't it?

  10. The "draw" is the fairest way..There are no AP writers, or anyone else for that matter, that travel to see all teams play. They can't. Also if you are from the same district, you should be on the opposite bracket. That may take from "1" and "2" teams on opposite brackets but that is all hypothetical anyway who is what, as someone else said, there are weaker districts/regions out there. No way of ranking them fair and unbiased. JMO.

KGM, not to start an argument, but in 1990 Clarkrange boys finished 4th in their district, lost every game to Pickett County but yet made it to the finals with the "easier" of the two brackets. PC had to go thru the #1 and #3(AP ranked again how they know who is what?) teams to get there. Oh and PC was 2nd that year in the district. The seeding is what it is. This was also during the blind draw before they changed it. Be glad they changed it back.

There's nothing fair about a blind draw. Actually, it's quite ridiculous. Even the district and region tournaments are seeded as they should be. Flip of the coin, blind draw, dumb luck, etc. are not how you determine the best team in the state but again, I was not consulted so I will just have to accept it until someone wants to legitimize this state's tournament.

  11. I understand but it is still somewhat of opinion, I would still be interested in how you would set up let's do A and AA? Don't get me wrong I see where you argument is going, but it would still be very hard to do.

It is a "best" applicable opinion. TSSAA needs to determine a system to use in seeding these teams in the state tournament and use it because as it stands now the state championship game will be played tomorrow at 1:00 and features the undefeated Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes against the 29-3 Forrest Rockets. Everyone better come see it because after this game the rest really don't matter. What a shame.

  12. So you are saying to a least try to put #1 and #2 opposite, but not worry with the other teams?

I still say there is no way to know who is a legit 1 and 2, only opinions.

Nonsense. Even here at this website teams are ranked based upon strength of schedule and success. Currently, here's how CoachT ranks the state tourney teams based upon that criteria: Clarkrange, Forrest, Cornersville, Oliver Springs, Madison, Lake County, Hampton, Pickett County. That's 1 thru 8. Now look at the blind draw. You have three of the top 4 teams in the same bracket (Clarkrange, Forrest, Oliver Springs). To me this is does not represent a fair tournament at all. Clarkrange should open up against Pickett and Forrest should play Hampton in opposite brackets. You then have Cornersville playing Lake County and OS playing Madison. That's a fair and balanced tourney and seeded correctly. Now how hard was that? The criteria used is the CoachT strength/success rankings. I don't care what criteria is put into place but surely something that resembles fairness is better than blind luck of the draw.

  13. What about those teams such as Upperman that I know is legit top 8, they had to travel to McMinn Central and did not make the tournament. Was it fair they had to travel to MC?

I am not talking about anything leading up to the state tournament in M'boro. However sub-state games are played is not relevant to me. I am talking about the final 8 heading to M'boro to determine who is the best in the state and I believe in order to determine who is the best then you must seed these eight teams and bracket accordingly regardless of who's in who's district, etc. In this manner you would have seen Clarkrange in one bracket and Forrest in the other playing towards their probable clash in the title game on Saturday. This is what a tournament is supposed to deliver, the best two in the last game. It's what the fans want to see and it is what the top two teams deserve. They should be rewarded for their excellent records for the year. A team sneaking into the tourney by virtue of a lucky win in sub-state over a better team who had an off night should not be rewarded by a blind draw pitting them against another team of dubious abilities thus ensuring one of them makes it to the final four. Where's the justice in that?

  14. Then you are leaving it up to biased and uninformed voters. (Not saying they all are, but..) You would have some voting thier local team high in the polls just so they could get a good seed if they make it. They can seed college teams because someone voting in California can see UCONN on TV. I think what we have is the fairest because it leaves it up to chance.

It punishes the better teams if they meet early that's all this system does. Massey ratings are a computer based system which leaves bias out of the equation. I am not advocating the use of this system but you should seed these teams like any other tourney and let the best teams play it out in the finals if they are fortunate enough to get that far. This year you arguably have the #1 and #2 teams in the state tournament meeting in the first round while lesser teams have an easier road to the final. Is this a just reward for the excellence the top two have shown all year? I think not but then I was not consulted /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  15. Sorry, but CoachT will not allow me to post the name of the other ranking source, hence unapproved website. But, yes they are ranked. CR is currently ranked by the AP as the number one team in Class A. The next ranked team in the field of eight would be the #2 seed I would think. That's how a legitimate tournament should be arranged IMO.

  16. all of the teams are not ranked where did you get that from?

They are ranked. They're ranked here, they are ranked by AP, they are ranked at Massey, unapproved website, etc., etc. Of course they are ranked by many sources. If needed, TSSAA could rank the top 8 and bracket accordingly. Would you not want the top two teams playing in the championship? If #1 plays #2 in the first game then what's the point of the tourney?

  17. Personally, I thinks it's bull. All of these team are ranked so 1 should play 8, etc. That's how a tourney is supposed to be. It's supposed to reward the best teams for all they did in the regular season. Can you imagine last year if in the women's NCAAs Tennessee had played UCONN in the first game of the tournament or Stanford had played LSU. How silly and wrong is that. I realize that there's only eight teams here but again, they come in ranked so top ranked plays lowest ranked and so on. The two top ranked teams should always be in opposite brackets. Of course the current system does allow the underdog a shot.

  18. I agree with you now. All of the big post are gobbled up by your SEC type teams, but even at the SEC level not every team is considered in that elite range. Leonard and Heady will both be hybrid type players at one of the upper mid D1 programs. They will play the 3 and the 4 position depending on what type of defender they are are facing. Heady is more suited to the 4 spot and Leonard is more suited to the 3 spot, but they are both pretty good at either one. To play post at one of the big dogs like a UT or UConn you have to have more than talent and the only person that can give you that size is the good Lord. However, a free education at a school like TN Tech, ETSU, WKU etc.... is not to shabby.

I agree wholeheartedly. I also should have pointed out that my position on Christopher is based on her being a guard which is not size dependant. Her ability to handle the ball and shoot the lights out makes her a prospect at any level. The single A post players are just too small to play at big schools. Both Heady and Leonard are around 5' 9" which diminishes their potential at the next level. The best all around player in D7 (in my opinion) is Tasha Phillips and she's signed to play at Carson-Newman. She'll get her college paid for and actually get to play which is much better than going to a larger school and spending all your time on the bench. I wish them all well in Miss Basketball but Christopher is a lock for this one.

  19. Sorry, I am obviously showing my age. When I played 100 years ago I played Div 1 AA and while these were Div 1 schools the AA classification signified one step below the D1 programs. These schools included all in the OVC and Southern Conference, etc. Div 1 was only the big schools like UT, Alabama, etc. These programs are the ones I am referring to now so forgive me for the misunderstanding. There are talented players in TN that will certainly play D1AA ball (TN Tech, ETSU, etc.) but you can count on one hand the ones that might end up playing in the SEC or other D1 programs of that size. This is what I am trying to say and Christopher is one I believe to possess SEC talent. She's certainly the only one in cosideration for this years Miss Basketball in Class A. And before the Gainsboro Mafia chimes in I have nothing against LL. She's a fine ball player and quality person but her size will never allow her to play post against girls that are bigger and as good or, in most cases, better. Additionally her lack of any kind of outside game will relegate her to the post so playing point or even 2 guard is not going to happen. That's not a knock on her but an honest evaluation of her skill set. CR doesn't have any D1 (again my definition) talent either as they simply are not big enough. This doesn't mean they aren't a great team with great players but big time college ball is another level completely. If Tasha Phillips, Molly Heady, and Leonard could all grow another four to five inches they'd be in the mix cause they certainly have the talent to play post just not the size.

  20. UTC is not D1AA they are D1A

Sorry, when I played college ball in the Southern Conference UTC was a D1AA school. Funny how things change over the years. Dreambig (appropriate name) you need to remove your "rose colored" glasses and see things for what they are. Christopher wins this award hands down this year. She's the only player in Class A and one of very few in the state with D1 potential. She probably chose UTC because they have a great program and it's close to home. Additionally, she'll be able to see alot of playing time. In the entire country there are only a small percentage of players that will ever play at the D1 level. LL is a good solid player but her size will never allow her to play the post in D1 and post is all she can play. I sat with one of the coaches scouting the CR/JC game in Gainesboro and she said there wasn't anyone on the floor capable of playing D1 and she was 100% correct. That included both teams. How many players from 7A have signed to play at any D1 school. Go ahead and name them. The best of them will play small college ball which is great as they'll get their schooling paid for and might actually get to play. The only girl around this area that probably will play D1 is the girl from Smith County. She has the required size to do it and plays well around the basket. Other than that most of our better players are being looked at by small college coaches but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

  21. Easy. She's the best player in the state at any level. She was runner up last year as a Junior when she probably should have won it and she's a senior this year. There's no way she doesn't win it this year as she's in a class all her own. She's the only one being considered that could play D1 ball and actually turned down D1 scholarships to play D1AA at UTC.

  22. I am puzzled by the so called "draw" in this years tourney. It appears that the four strongest teams got paired together in the same bracket. Very hard to call this coincidence. I don't know about half of these teams but Clarkrange has beaten Forrest this year by 31 points and have not been pushed by anyone this year. They've gotten the lead early on every team they've played and have never been behind in any game once they've gotten the lead. In the sub-state game last night they were up 50-5 in the second quarter. That's almost impossible to believe but it was 50 to 5 midway into the second. That is ridiculous. The subs came in and played the rest of the way and CR won 81-39. I have been watching CR basketball for a loooong time and I have never seen a more dominant team. They are flawless at times and if you try to run with them you will be destroyed. In all honesty, they could have scored 120 points last night if the starters had continued. Every starter can consistently shoot the three and the inside game is unmatched. This team has zero weaknesses. This is exactly why they MUST be very careful and remain totally focused on this tournament or there could be a big ooops. Teams that are so dominant all year react differently when they do get pushed in a tournament. Forrest is not a team to be taken lightly because anyone that knows Forrest knows they always start off the year slowly and steadily progress all season usually peaking around tournament time. Just ask a heavily favored Jackson County in '06. This team is well coached and while they do not have the talent of CR they will not lay down either. CR had better lace up the sneakers real tight and get their heads on straight and get ready for a war or bad things could happen. I believe CR will get it done as this is a very hungry team but do not overlook anyone in this tournament. Go Lady Buffaloes. We need that 8th State Championship.

  23. Now, now, let it go. The game is over and both have a sub-state game coming up. Most CR fans are big time supporters of Pickett since we're neighbors (at least I am) and I hope Pickett takes it to CSAS and makes it to state. Get it done Lady Bobcats. We're all pulling for you.
