  1. Freshman wins region but 3rd place winner wins freshman award?

I've never seen a best match award go to a preliminary round instead of the finals.

Are you sure you copied and pasted all of this correctly? Or is this some more of that middle tn magic that's so well known about in those parts?

I heard they voted on the freshman at the seeding meeting.  I think its a great award but next year perhaps they should vote on it after the tournament.

The best match was a good one but it should have never went to overtime in my opinion.  They went out with :02 seconds left and on the resart, Oakland got called for stalling as time expired which sent it to overtime.

  2. Im saying the week of the 4th is June 29th through July 5th.  The week before that is June 22nd through June 28.  SO reading that, Dead period should be from June 22nd through July 5th.

The PDF I saw said that and then contradicted itself by saying:

    " Dead Period ................................................Jun. 21 – July 4, 2015"

Am I looking at that incorrectly?

  3. "The Dead Period, which is to be observed by all schools, is the week of the 4th of July and the preceding week – 14 days"

    "Dead Period ................................................Jun. 21 – July 4, 2015"

So dead period this year begins on Saturday and ends on Friday.  That is not the week of 4th of July and the preceding week.

    Just sayin.....

  4. Lol champs. You are making a fool of yourself. I am Matt Sells. If you want to talk about Blackman, find me at the state tournament and ill be glad to fill you in.

Sounds like you are a McCallie parent who is upset about the results of the dual. What's your name?

You brought up the penalty for filming. Not me. I am just curious if there is one. I don't think there is.

  5. why not worry about something more important in your life. Seriously

Because I like worrying about things like that.  Your last post was like a year ago...did I hit a nerve?

The rest of you have some good points.  In youth wrestling, the kids are taught to go shake the opposing coaches hand.  I have noticed that most collegiate wrestlers do not.  Was just curious when it was appropriate to stop.

    That ok with you 2blLeg?

  6. So lately I have decided that there is not much interesting going on the wrestling forum so I have taken to make it more so.

At GP West, one of our wrestlers beat a guy by a close decision and after the match the other kid was so dejected that he simply walked to the circle, bent down and pulled off the leg band, stuck his hand out backwards without making any eye contact, made limp hand contact with the winning wrestler, and finally walked back to his corner, shook his own coaches hand and walked off the mat.

The omission of shaking the opposing coach's hand I took as a sign of disrespect and immaturity.  It also hurts the reputation of his team in my opinion.

    Anyone disagree?

  7. Didnt know I was gonna start such a storm. - First, no apologies from me in the matter.  I am still shaking my head.

Injuries happen in wrestling as does illness.  It's a part of the sport..  The decision I made to post about it was not intended to disrespect the program at Centennial.  They have a great program and that's that.

With that said, I think many kids deserve every opportunity to get their name out there.  As many know, there is no better recruiting tool for your high school kid than for him to place at the biggest tournaments available.  It is that mindset that I worked under when commenting in the first place,

If the logic presented is correct, all a kid needs to do is worry about his team goals.  Then after team duals at state he can consider himself?  If he does that and respects his team then he will get a scholarship?

See where I am going with that?  There's a delicate balance of team and individual in wrestling and certainly I do think that EVERY wrestler that competed at GP West is better today than they were Friday morning.  That shouldn't get lost in the mix over the goals of the team.

    JMHO

Best of luck to Centennial and their wrestlers!
