  1. I'm doing my best to take the high road here as well.

I do want to point out something about saving seats.  I have been to over a dozen TSSAA State events at the Ag Center to watch my sons wrestle.  You are not allowed to save seats by throwing blankets or leaving your things.  The security will move them if asked.  That is why we get there early, plant our butts in the seats and stay there.

Blackman sits in the front row on that side every year...at least for the last 6 years...  Ask anyone.

And for the record, I was entertained by the dual which is why I congratulated Pigeon Forge in the first place.  We just wrestled them a a few weekends ago and they are a great team with great kids and coaches.  Both teams put on a great show for all.

  2. Sorry but you are not correct at all.  Coach Bray was the one who got up and offered you HIS seat so you could watch your son wrestle.  Your son did very well by the way.  Perhaps you should have introduced yourself and said thank you to him.  Parts of the final matches were live streamed on my Facebook by me for my private use so that some of my friends who were at home could get see some of the wrestling and excitement of the finals. Wrestling needs more fans and giving some the option to sniff the excitement is good for our sport.

You walked around in front of the Blackman parents and fans complaining that it was our fault that we were sitting where you wanted to sit.  You also tried to denigrate our team because we weren't wrestling in the finals... telling our parents and fans "better luck next year".   If you wanted to sit where I was sitting, you should have gotten there earlier.  Greeneville's otherwise friendly and cordial fan base was very upbeat and it was cool to hear you all on your feet and cheering your team.  It was obvious that you personally didnt represent all of them.  One of your fans did us a huge favor after the match and I couldn't thank them enough for turning in something that was left behind.

For the record, I decided to sit there so we could watch the finals on both mats.  We knew the Greeneville - Pigeon Forge dual would be a good one.

And finally, Blackman doesn't need better luck next year though.  We are doing fine.  AAA is a different animal.  Good luck to your son at State.

  3. No, they have wrestled multiple time with Sammy coming out ahead. Nick has beaten Sammy once that I know of the 1st time they wrestled, but Sammy has the upper hand in total wins.

That said I think Nick would beat Sammy more often in Greco, but if he's not hitting a head throw then Sammy is going to win a lot of the time.

When was the last time they wrestled?

  4. I think people need to look at the numbers of kids getting noteworthy college scholarships who wrestled Olympic styles compared to those who didn't.

Take a look at the best wrestlers in the country (high school and college) and nearly all of them are accomplished freestyle and greco wrestlers.

That's enough for me.  I think that competition alone will not make a kid a great wrestler.  They have to have a variety of experience if they are going to soar with the eagles.
