  1. How does the district look for 2012-13 season with all the coach changes? Who lost key players to graduation? Who will stand out at which school? Any incoming stand out freshman? Any teams with injuries that will impact season? Predictions on who will take it all this year? Where are teams playing at for summer camps?

Bearden is getting an influx of young talent coming in... practically a whole AAU team has transferred in as 9th graders.

  2. The rumor is that Todd Wright of Lenoir City, formerly Maryville College women's coach has been hired. Any truth to that rumor?

I'm sure the Lenoir City folks will start complaining again very soon if that is true. I would imagine Wright would be a frontrunner for either of the big positions open right now....Oak Ridge or Maryville.

  3. I would imagine he'll make more teaching/coaching (or about same) in high school and cut his hours down significantly.

Div III coaches don't get paid well, I don't believe. Of course, they might have other duties such as teaching a college course or an administrative duty that supplements their coaching salary.

  4. It's a shame what Coach has had to endure the past few years. It's obvious that some problems remain the same.

What about the younger girls? Does the JV have the same problems? How's their season gone? Is there hope for the future?

  5. I have just taken a job transfer to Knoxville and have been researching online the local AAU clubs/teams (13U-14U) for my daughter prior to relocating. There are so many teams in the East TN area compared to New Mexico that I don't even know where to start. I know it is too late for this season, and so am looking for a team for next season, or even this summer as a guest player. My daughter has played for the New Mexico Select for the past three years and participated in the AAU Div 1 Nationals in both 2007 and 2008 (11U and 12U- finishing 24th and 13th), and so we are looking for an elite team. Just have no idea which teams/clubs are the best to look at, as we play primarily in AZ, TX and CA. Also, any recommendations for high schools in the area would be appreciated. I have researched online, but stats can sometimes be deceiving. Would like to hear from "boots on the ground" as to what schools would be the best to look at. Thx.

I would recommend you looking into Bearden if you decide on Knoxville. They've gotten better and better each year and their coach was named coach of the year by the News-Sentinel this year.

I also heard their numbers are a bit down for next year due to attrition and a lot of the rising 8th graders are going to one of the private schools next year so the opportunity for playing time will be there immediately.

If you move to Oak Ridge, they've been successful for years.

    Hope that helps a little.

  6. 96 to 86...souds like Oak Hill got some home cooking!!!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

This game might be replayed on Wazoo sports......I'm going to check later and tomorrow.....I want to see it.

The officiating looked to be very good while watching it at home.

Speaking of which, why were people wanting score updates when the game was broadcast live on wazoosports.com??? They did a great job with the game and you get to drink a beer while watching. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

    Tiny was huge.

  7. Not legally they don't. Coaches are paid a teaching salary just like every other teacher in the system, based on their education and experience. They also receive a supplement for their coaching duties. The coaching supplements are on a scale and are negotiated by the local teacher's union under the Tennessee Bargaining Law. There is a huge variation in what coaches are paid from system to system, but legally that is all the pay they are supposed to receive. However, in many places coaches are "taken care of" by boosters, community groups, camp proceeds, or other sources of revenue. It can be a real "gray" area and is hard to prove, as most of it is done under the table. Many systems have also granted coaches 11 or 12 month contracts, which is legitimate and increases their income. Most public school coaches are working for the love of the game and the kids, because the supplements are low for the amount of time, energy, and effort involved.

Interesting info, CoachH. I'll pass that along to him.

He told me that Claiborne's salary scale is so low that he would never be able to make ends meet but I'm sure that's not on a 12 month contract. How much of a difference does that make?

  8. Several upset players had to have a meeting with coach to discuss the problems that have continued to grow this season. Also heard that Claiborne may have a new coach next season no matter what happens the rest of this one. Everyone is tired of this that has lasted for two seasons now. Who would be the leading person to take over this program? Who can this rebuild and restore this program? This will take a while just like it is taking at Union County. Their program has made much improvement while Claiborne has continued to go down.

A buddy of mine likes that area and wants to coach somewhere near there. However, he states that the pay there is so low. In counties like this that don't pay, do they make up the difference in other ways with coaches? Like with booster clubs?

  9. I watched Claiborne play M-Town West. Clearly the issues were first that Claiborne had not prepared for West. Claiborne players were lost on the court throughout the game. If it had not been for the mercy rule and the class act of the west coaching staff Claiborne would have been beaten by over 60 points. West was good but not that big of victory margin should have occurred. I along with the rest of the Claiborne fan section clearly heard Claiborne's best player said the team was embarrassed and that they needed a coach. Other players came out and said that the coach had told them before the game that she hoped that they did not lose they game by over 20 points. Is this confidence in your team or what? The score was 30 - 5 the first quarter and Claiborne continued their freeze style offense. Claiborne was outplayed because their coach was sinply outcoached. People need to realize that West's top player this season was ran off last season by Coach Cook Maybe Claiborne could have been competitive if Cook had not ran off all of those players last season. The attendance this season is horrible. Is or not? Last night they played a homeschool team and their were less that 75 people in the crowd. Is this Claiborne county Basketball at its best? If they are going to keep this coach then keep making future schedules like this one. Union Co, Claiborne Co, and next year who else will hire her to destroy their program. Bottom line is the community and players are suffering due the poor decision of politics.

Honestly, when the pay is so low for teachers/coaches in the county, how can you expect the best coaches or even younger up and coming coaches to go there?

    Not being mean, just honest.

  10. Now the question is, can anyone in Tennessee beat Bearden? I watched it on the internet, and from what I saw, they did all this with the usual suspects (Jenkins, Simpson, and Craig) watching most of the game from the bench. Galen Campbell had a great game, as did Nate Parker with two thunderous dunks. I don't know about beating Oak Hill by 10+, but if they play like this it will be a great game that I only hope I can watch from the DC area.

This is the most impressive boys team I've ever seen. I'm no guru or historian but their length, speed/quickness and ability to play above the rim is simply awesome.

    Wow...

  11. What is wrong with our coach?

Following tonights Farragut game...he goes over and starts heckling the Farragut student section as he is walking out with his team. Why spoil a great district win over our biggest rival by looking immature and arrogant.

Give me a break....seems bdogparent is ticked that his/her daughter isn't playing.

I'm more a Bulldog boys fan but usually see the 2nd half of the girls game. They've had a fine start to the season and look to be getting better.

"Why spoil a great district win over our biggest rival by looking immature and arrogant."

I was up high but what did he do? All I saw him do was smile at them and point to the scoreboard. The Farragut fans thought it was funny. Who had their district win "spoiled"?

This is a non-issue. By the time I got to the floor, they were ragging the other coach as well. He was smiling at them and then they had a nice verbal exchange. Nobody at the game was talking about what your brought up...'cause nobody saw it as anything thing but good-natured.

It's obvious you have an agenda against the coach and it's pretty obvious it's for lack of playing time. Give it a rest.

Post something positive next time. Like solid team, solid coaching, represents the school well.

  12. Resting for a Thursday night game is a terrible excuse...its 4 minutes of running. It gives Bearden a bad image to other teams and fans in the area....like they are "too good" to play in the jamboree.

Looking at today's games, it appears they did that because they play tonight for a regular season game????

Besides, didn't Bearden win that scrimmage?

It would be one thing if their JV was completely embarrassed but quite another if they competed/WON. Which Bearden did.

It's a scrimmage. Most of the coaches use it to work on something, not so much to win. I'm sure Catholic was glad they didn't get embarrassed by their varsity.

  13. Let's start all over. There is Region 2 and there is District 2. If you are looking at Region 2 there are a group of teams around Knoxville and if you are looking at District 2, it is teams around Morristown. Sorry for my post as for some reason a VB post got on BB. My fault.

New to the area so sorry 'bout the confusion.

    I'm talking District 4.

  14. West may need several Basketball Coaches. Head and one maybe 2 assistants. Maybe a couple of assistants at the New Hardin Valley School. Knox Central also might have at least one opening for a top notch assistant.

I appreciate the info. Would you know anything about any girls openings? (I posted on the girls link but there haven't been any responses)

    Again, thank you for the information. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
