  1. The runner can participate in the 5k as long as there is a designated line for the high school runner to start at least 100 yards back. The race no longer is a 5k and will therefore not count as a 5k race. Running in a 5k counts as a meet and the TSSAA has a set a limit as to how many races each team can run.

Did you just make that S@@@ up? Can you back up the 100 yards rule? I believe it is not in the TSSAA rules unless they just recently put it in. Here is the rule excepted from the TSSAA Handbook:

    Q. Is it a violation for a registered athlete in track or cross country to participate in a road race?

    A. No, provided the race is longer than 3200 meters during track season or longer than 5K (3.1 miles) during

    cross country season.

Most smart race directors will tell the high schoolers to take one step back from the starting line, thus making the course longer than 5k.

mrcballer22, do you have any other 'made up' rules you would like to share with us?

  2.

A-AA Boys - MLK heavy favorite; UJC next; Lipscomb 3rd; Wasserman top boy

A-AA Girls - Lipscomb strong; UJC; Klein and Ball top girls

D-II Boys - MBA favored; McCallie close; BA & Baylor strong 3rd & 4th; Lord & Peters top boys

D-II Girls - BA & Baylor up for grabs; HH 3rd best; Nobert & Murray top girls

AAA Boys - Oak Ridge; MW; Houston - McKelvey top dog; Mansy, Rainey & James runner-ups

AAA Girls - Oak Ridge; Science Hill - Red Bank's Claire Turner will be tough

Boys' Steeplechase 5k Course Record will drop again this year (currently 15:32 Bill Matthews)

Look for McKelvey, Rainey and Lord to challenge it

    Have fun!

FYI, Red Bank is A-AA this year so move Claire to the top of that list.

Jumper & Gartman will give Nobert & Murray a run for their money in D-II.

  3. what about A/AA any teamor indivual predictions for them?

Since the three teams that represented the boys from Region 3 last year are all moving to Region 4 (CCS, Notre Dame, and Signal Mountain) as well as Sequatchie County (Dylan Harper) I think it will be wide open, and much watered down. I guess Collegedale can just continue their streak and go for a 4-peat.

Claire Turner will obviously be the girls fav as Red Bank drops to A/AA.

East Hamilton will be the wild card, no teilling who will show up under this new program. This first year school has the potential to be a big impact like SM last year.

  4. I really hope this comment was in jest because there was really no need for these harsh words. Seriously dude? you're gonna point out the difference between an 8k and a 5 mile??? practically the same thing

Dude, no kidding. 8k = 51 yards short of 5 miles. (About 3 minutes for Conigs if you look at his last 51 yards at state /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> ) Seriously though, 8k or even 10k may prove to be more in your wheelhouse, Matt.

  5. If Matt Coniglio runs a halfway intelligent race today, he will win State.

    on the other hand.... /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

(Way to go out hard and give it a try though)

  6. tn runner is not a complete summary of season bests it only includes some meets, you can't make solid predictions just from tn runner seeing as how their meet coverage is incomplete plus you can have a team run a faster team average and still loose to a team with a lower average because it relies more on place than average time plus i have yet to see dl run these times period much less all run good times as a team at one meet as said macon county and station have had pretty solid wins over dl 3 of 3 times they have raced them, though their times do look really good im not sure where they all come from and in order to be second in my book they need to run with more consistancy as a team, dyersburg does look really good, but if what conig says is true it could be due to the coarse, still they look strong, mlk is def. at the front of the pack right now no debating that, and never count macon out with their two hammers and their third man running strong as well, usjc is running decent times but so far showeing no consistency but you cant count out the defending state champs, and station has run with moderate consistency, and seems to be strong as a pack team.Though they have not had all seven of their top runners run good times at the same race yet. Need less to say it will be a close and very exciting race. Good luck everyone

Psz- I'm not trying to neg you but come on, use some punctuation and check your spelling once in a while. It's not that hard. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

You are correct saying TN Runner does not have complete coverage, but it is about the easiest place to get MUCH information quickly. It's pretty hard to follow region results outside of one's own area so you may have some better insight to your onw region. Head-to-head competition is certainly a great indicator to point out. I guess they'll just have to go ahead and run the state meet to see who really has it. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  7. how much reaserch did you actually do before posting this conig /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> If you look at times and or finishs there is no way you can put dl in second macon and station have beat them 3 of 3 times and have a better team average /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> who knows it could happen just saying if you go by history dl is more like the 6th place team

  9. Two meets in Chattanooga this year decided to go head-to-head with the Classic.

Chattanooga is home to a bunch of baboons.

Chattown will be the place to be on the 20th. Either you're too unimportant to get into coach woods meet or ur afraid of a little hill. Me thinks u r the baboon.

  10. Well MaHOWNey started off season really slow in Cookville yesterday. Team looked much stronger than last year. If they improve 3-5, whew watch out.

Mabye MaHOWNey is starting to rub off???!?!?!!!

    He's rubbing? Go HO go

  11. I know there is some kind of a TSSAA Rule regarding HS CC Team Members from running in 5k Road Races.

Can anyone explain that and does it cover the non-season month's (summer)?

    Thanks

    Roll Tribe Roll

I looked up the TSSAA rule and is says "Q. Is it a violation for a registered athlete in track or cross country to participate in a road race? A. No, provided the race is longer than 3200 meters during track season or longer than 5k (3.1 miles) during cross country season."

I've been at races where there is a separate starting line for high shcool runners that is maybe 100 meters behind the 5k line. I've also been at races where the starter basically told everyone at the starting line 'to take a step back...now we are longer than a 5k'.

  12. Was just about to post that. Opens up a big wide door for region 3 now in terms of who else might sneak in.

Ya, it stinks for those boys, I think they should just show up & run anyway. TSSAA should change the rule on individuals making it to state. I think other states let the 1st 10 individuals NOT on a qualifiying team go to the state championships.

  13. Baylor's chances for NXN are very, very good, IMHO. I think that they will go into the season ranked 1st in the SE (with Hoover at #2) and stand an excellent chance of being Tennessee's second boys' qualifier for NTN/NXN. I am impressed with Matthews as a team runner--he and McGregor could really lead a pair of powerful SE teams next year.

Doesn't Baylor loose 2 of their top 5, state champ Waldo being one of them? That's a lot of reloading to ask for, although that Lord kid looks like he has some awesome potential...hmmmmmm. What will mr biology cook up in the lab I wonder? /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />

  14. I think Dylan Harper is going to be quality for his junior and senior years. He barely qualified for sectionals with a 5:09 and then turns around and rocks a 4:49 at the sectional meet. That kid is going to be special one day. I'm predicting an all state finish. Why? Cause I can

I see he did the same thing in cross last year, nowhere to be found until Optimist & Region. Either he knows how to peak well or he runs half heartedly during the season. Either way I don't think he has the competitive /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> drive that Bryson has so, for as him being special one day... it's in there but will he let it out?

And speaking of special one day, what do you think of that Mullin from ND? Now there's someone who could be on the national radar very soon.

  15. Collegedale is a slightly watered down version of some of our teams from 5-10 years ago. They are pretty deep and have a tight group. It depends on how they train in the summer, which I cannot attest to.

Collegedale is deep and usually a pack running team but they did loose 3 of their top 5 to graduation. Their region is kinda weak so even if they reload well I don't see them doing too well at state.

Looks like you'll be the lone ranger in a/aa until state, conigs, do you see anybody coming up to stay on your shoulder through 3 miles?
