  1. Have to agree about Cookeville's coach. He seems to want to win. I understand he works his girls hard and does not take any back talk or whinning from the girls and their parents. I wish all of them, players and coaches, the very best of luck. It is time Cookeville got back on the winning track.

  2. Let me clarify what I meant. Not being negative towards anyone player. Just stating the truth.

You are only as good as your competition forces you to be. Playing in a tough district is humbling at times even for the best players. Playing in a softer district it's easier for one player to STAND out and look like they are heads above the others. To be a stand out pitcher in the same district as Riverdale/Oakland/siegel/Blackman is alot tougher than being a stand out pitcher with Monterey/Jackson Co./RBS.

I'm exactly sure how old she is but she would have only had 1 coach change in her high school career if she had gone to Cookeville. And from what we saw in Cookeville the coach they have there now seems to be a no nonsense type of coach and seems to be playing to win and not to make parents happy. The parents and players there need to be thankful for that change. And on top of that Cookeville has a pitcher that is a junior I think (blonde hair) that is not only really strong on the mound, can play anywhere in the field, and can hit the ball. Even more competition?

  3. Went and watched some of the games at Cookeville Sat. They did not look to shabby. They have 3 good pitchers and 2 good catchers. As for the coach, he is doing good, or so I am told. He is doing the discipline thing for everyone, not just 2 or 3. The parents are being supportive and that is a plus. The team acted like a different bunch of girls. They were laughing and talking and doing cheers in the dugout. Seems like everyone is getting along. I hope this works out for all of them.

  4. Well District 7AAA will not see the ???Cat Lady??? this year on the mound she has moved east and is doing an outstanding job for the Lady Vols. What will Riverdale be without a great pitcher on the mound like they have had in the past? Coach has been working the Ladies really hard and it will show when it counts the most and that is tourney time.

White County is a beautiful place to visit with the Cumberland Plateau in the back ground of this country town but you will not find a very good softball team that will be able to take it to the top in this tough district.

Warren County is a very young team and if you need some trees this is the place to go but you will not see a team that will be fighting for district championship this year.

Oakland is way down this year, and it does not look like this Rutherford County school will have much to say on who wins the district.

Cookeville has a new coach with a lot of parents willing to help him in any way possible. I am sure that if he is having a hard time with the line-up his parents will be more that willing to help out. This team could fall all the way to the bottom ahead of White County, if he can not find any pitching to stop the other clubs in district.

Lebanon was young last year and they are ready to take a step up in district I do believe that they will achieve success but will not make it to the top.

Siegel could be the surprise team this year, experience coach and some speed and ok pitching could make things every interesting by tourney time.

Blackman is ???Bubba??™s??? pick to come in behind his best friend at Riverdale. There is a rumor that they will have to get there pitchers tough if they want to win the big ones. The talk in the ???trailer park??? is that they always do not show up if things get tough.

Riverdale will have a lot tougher time this year but the talent is still there and the coaching is very good. Can they make it to the big dance is something we will have to talk about at a later time.

  5. Well it is time to get down and dirty and start picking some of these AA school losers. Earlier I thought I could tell you who would be on top and who would be on the bottom but this is going to be one crazy district this year. It could go down to the last week to see who finishes in first place. I am going to put the blame on my beautiful wife ???Birdie??? because she DROPPED out crystal ball and it has made things really cloudy for these picks! But since everyone wants to know who the real losers are here goes!

The ladies from York lost their coach from last year and he made it to Putman County where he will lead the ???Lady Cavaliers???. He makes more $$$$ and a bigger school. Well last year for the Dragons was not a very good year and this year does not look any better, it will be a great game when the ???Lady Bees??? from Baxter and the ??? Lady Dragons??? get together because they will be fighting for last place in the district! These teams will have a very tough year!! Sorry to be the one to tell you but ???Birdie??? told me it was my place to do it because Coacht is paying me so much $$$$ to keep you all inform! (By the way coach I am still waiting for my check, I know that you told me it was in the mail but you must have lost my address right?)

Here is where it starts getting a little tougher! DeKalb County should be the number one team because they HAD a lot returning from the state tourney team but things have been kind of tough over in the ???Fiddlers School?›?b]?? and they will not be making as much music as they hope that they would. Coach Bond is one of the better coaches in the Mid State but you can only do with what you have to do with!

Smith County only has one pitcher and she can only pitch so many innings, then they will have problems. There coach is doing a great job but Smith County has NEVER been known for softball. When Smith County plays DeKalb it will be student against old coach and it should be who finishes in third place. If my memory recalls Smith County has only been to the state one time and that was several years ago. But I have been told that the ???Hoot Owls?›?b]?? could surprise some people and finish second but only the crystal ball knows for sure!

Macon County got rid of there coach where they could bring family into the program. The news that the crystal ball has told me is that there are some unhappy people there because of getting rid of the coach. But always remember that blood is thicker than a winning program! Cannon County has high hopes but they did last year as well and fell by the wayside as the district finished up. So with all of that said here is the list of the losers for District 7AA /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

    District 7AA Losers

    York Institute

    Upperman

    Livingston Academy

    DeKalb County

    Smith County

    Macon County

    Cannon County

What about the Cookeville Girls? You made no comment about them. Has anyone seen them practice

  6. I wish good luck to whoever takes over this program. They are going to need all the luck they can get .

Last night's Cookeville newspaper was very interesting. Excoach Jones must have written both articles. Hope that Roane benefites as much as they said they hoped to. What the new coach said was short and sweet. Nice!! Not a whole lot of bull.

  7. baseballer-

Read back through your posts and you have been a ballgames and at district games throughout Cookeville's softball season and you know too much about the players and Jones.

Does the high school you coach at in Texas softball team's season run different from the rest of America?????????? It must or you were MIA for 99% of their season. Give it a rest guy!

The new coach just might be better off without 4 or 5 of Jones starters from last year. He didn't have a team he just had players.

Well said Midtennsoftball. Has anyone heard when tryouts are for Cookeville Softball?

  8. Did anyone ever find out why the head coaching job in Cookeville was not advertised? Who are some of the girls that left and why did they leave?

You would have to ask the parents of these girls, Mr. Shanks, Mr Goolsby these questions. Safe to say you would get a straight answer from the parents. From the other two, probably a lot of political giberish. Usually when public officials keep secerts, there are real problems they do not want the voting public to know about. But most of the time, the truth comes out in the end.

  9. I heard this morning that the position had indeed been filled and that the gentleman that will assume the head coaching position in Cookeville is a head coach at a 7A school now.

Wonder why this was not advertised? What is the gentleman's name? Hope he can make decisions on his own without some parents getting to him and telling tales and rumors on others. Hope the school officials watch things more closely than they did with the other coach. All the girls that want to play ball will act like players and the others that cause trouble and drama are your troublemakers that need to sit in the bleachers.

If they have hired someone, I wish him all the luck in the world as he will really need it with the girls he has now and with some of the parents. I really hope he has a strong back bone.

  10. Now why were you online and not in church young man!!!!!

Well, maybe Cookeville can get a coach now that will be the coach and the boss of his team, not the players. If they can get someone that picks the girls at tryout on their ability and not for who they know, they are capable of having a very good team. All a new coach need to do is get rid of the drama and be the coach.

  11. Please understand that we (Trinity) have to play all the teams in our district twice during our season, we have no choice. Four of the five teams you mentioned that had losing records are in our district and the other we didn't meet until sub-state. Every year our coaches put us in tough tournaments (Commando Classic, Worth Tourn. and the strongest Kentucky tournament) so we can play heavier competition, knowing that it only helps us. We only got to play a few teams during our "regular season" out of our district and those teams that we played have all made it to the state this year. Riverdale game should have been a 1-0 game with Riverdale winning. Cat pitched an awesome 4 innings. She's great! It was 6-0(a pounding) but we made tons of errors, 5 unearned runs. Cat pitched 4 innings, striking out all 12 outs and had 2 hits. Ivy pitched 3 innings, striking out 8 of the 9 outs and had 2 hits. It was a very even game without the errors. We stunk! Goodpasture went into extra innings and they won 1-0. TCA had runners in scoring position with no outs a couple of times. We should have won that game. Again, great pitching on both sides. Devon is awesome as well! Creekwood was another game we gave away in the last inning. We didn't hit and they capitilized on one error and then end of the game and we lost. That's softball. We played in a very competitive Kentucky tournament (approx. 25 teams that were top ranked in Kentucky) and made it to the championship game at 1:00 a.m. and lost a tight one. Last year we had beaten 7 of the teams that made it to the state tournament including div. II state champ GPS. I feel our team deserves to go to state this year.

The pitchers have been under a little different type of stress this year. Their grandmother who has been to almost every game they have played since their first year of softball (that's about 10 years) including travel, has been diagnosed with an aggressive growing brain tumor in late February. The very moment they were pitching against Beech in the Worth Tournament she (grandmother) was being put in a nursing home because the tumor is affecting her mental and physical abilities and she had to have around-the-clock care. That will affect a 16 and 17 year old in ways that no one really knows. This woman has made more pbj sandwiches, egg-salad sandwiches, brownies, cookies, bought more gatorade and paid for more admission prices to softball games than I will ever do. She has supported the game of softball in a tremendous way! Looking over their in the stands and seeing your grandfather sitting without their grandmother who has been to (almost) every game their entire life is harder than you can imagine. But, because of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ , He has help them overcome all of it. They have learned through watching their grandmother decline drastically right in front of their eyes, that softball is not number one. The precious life that she has lived by supporting them in every pitch they've thrown is getting closer to meeting her Creator unless His will is to heal her soon. I am so thankful to our Lord that He has blessed them once again to make it to state under the conditions they have been under this entire season. Jesus has been so faithful. They are blessed by Him already even if they lose their first two games at state. We give GOD the glory for the great things He has already done!!

Lets hear it for all the grandparents and parents that support their girls. Without these very special people, this game would be in real trouble.

  12. No it wasn't my child but all the girls on the team are very important to me. Are you the one that mouthed off?

She is a good player and obviously YOU know what was said , I don't I just know she was upset and as I said before she is a good player and normally she just lets things roll off her back but this must have really been a hurtful remark. And anyway I have seen lots of girls that there appearance might not be what you expect but they still play ball---look at Tonya Calahan.

I agree with what both of you are saying. I am sure if this girl is a seasoned player, the remark had to be bad to hurt her. As a parent, I think when a parent say things about the players, we should step up and tell them that this type of behavor is not what this game is about. If they want to act like a jerk, do it somewhere else. If a parent is doing this, what is their child going to be like? Acting the same way? This is the reason that so many good players are not playing. Parents are interfering and their children is usually the head of the little clicks that cause trouble. We need to remember that these players are still kids and they need all the support they can get, on and off the field. They do not need anyone putting them down.

  13. Well said Zorro, thanks for a good follow up because it is all about the girls /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Well, you get to thinking, what if that was my daughter. How would I feel? Better yet, how would Mr and Ms Jones feel if that was their daughter being treated as these 4 girls have been? This comes in as the golden rule, you treat others as you want to be treated!!

  14. In talking to someone close to that organization they think he will come back because his daughter is a member of his team. Their first baseman is a senior and his daughter will play varsity next year - deserving or not.

Hopefully Mr. Jones will see these messages and get a clue to how people think of him. Maybe he could turn around and be a man, find out all the problems he has, whether it was with the girls that are gone or the ones still playing, and solve the problems. It is a shame the 4 girls missed a year of school ball because of him. Maybe he could talk to these girls, iron out the things that are wrong, get them back to playing ball and help his other girls have a winning team. He has and has had real talent on his team, but threw it all away. The ones still playing deserve the best coach they can get because some of them have really tried, while his favorites have just coasted along.

  15. That he ran off? no more like they quit on their team because they wanted the SUPERSTAR treatment. But Cookeville will continue to get better. Nothing wrong with the coach one of the best in the state but you have to have a little bit of tallent.

From the people I talked to, Jones did help run these players off. These were players that never missed a practice or a game. They practice on their on time and had been doing this since they were little girls. But the catcher and pitcher missed one practice in Dec. to go to pitching and hitting lessons with Jones blessing. On Mon. he told them the would have to run 5 miles for missing. They ran part of it on Mon and on Tues he told them he had no one to watch them. The next day or two he let the catcher go and the next day the pitcher got so harressed by a couple of girls that she left the locker room with her dad and her mom called the coach. He never call the little girl back or even tried to talk to her. He had coached this player when she was younger and he knows how dedicated she had always been. The outfielder that had to quit was a friend of these two, so the other girls and the coach made it so hard on her she quit. From what was told to me, Mr Jones has no control over his girls at all. He let a little click run the team and look how it ended up. I understand that these girls that quit have been harressed outside of school also. It is also my understanding that these girls are working out every day and still taking pitching and hitting lessons. Does this sound like someone that wanted SUPERSTAR treatment? Sounds like they just want to play ball. Sounds more like some was jealous of these girls and the jealous ones was good friends of the Jones. I also was told that there have been many lies told about these girls and the things that really happen. I can't understand why the school system has not stepped in and took care of this coach. Now you see why my child will not attend Cookeville High School. Some good players that are coming out of middle school is going to some of the other high schools in Putnam Co. because of this coach. With so many good players in Putnam Co. they should have a killer high school team.

  16. If you are going to add coaches who are not coaching but still teaching you must add some of the following coaches as well:

    1. Coach Donna Cobb--Giles County

    2. Coach Reese Hambrick--Marshall County

    3. Coach Duff---Cookeville High School I do believe that Coach Duff is not teaching any more.

    4. Coach Christie Brinkley--Beech High School

    5. Coach Randy Sampson--Friendship Christian

Can you think of more who have been to the state!

I am so sorry that Coach Duff is unable to coach any more. He was a great coach and is a great man. You have talked about all the good coaches, lets talk about one that is not so good. I attended senior night at Cookeville High this past week and was not at all impressed with Coach Joey Jones. He has some very talented girls on this team and he seems not to know what to do with them. We live about 100 miles from Cookeville and were planning on moving there. I guess now I will drive 100 miles to work every day and let my family live where we are at. I have a daughter that will be in high school this fall and she wants to go to a school that the softball program will help her learn and advance. She is a good ball player and she wants to get better. I do not think she could do this under Coach Jones. Does any of the school personal ever go to these games and watch Coach Jones? Probably not as he is still prentending to coach.

  17. I do not need to have a clinic or be clone most high school coaches do these things and more! You are right I am going to have great day and I hope that you will also because it does not look like you have very many! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />I am so sorry because I did leave out that we do practice sometimes....boy I must be more careful I almost forgot the most important things and that is dealing with parents! Have a great day! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

If you can't stand the heat from parents, get out of the kitchen. Wonder how much money some of them have spent for equipment, lessons, gas to practice and games, giving money to other kids that did not have any, keeping them at our home so they could get to games, and on top of that, paying taxes to pay your salary. I know that coaches make near to nothing, but you chose to do this profession, so do your job or stay at home.

  18. But somewhere in there you have to throw in Cookeville if they can steal one from blackman and then get one from riverdale which is very possiable with Brittny Kincaid gettin her swing back along with some strong support from 2 juniors there just as much in as anyone.

Cookeville could have been one of the top teams if they had not lost an all district jr. hinecatcher, an honorable mention soph. pitcher, a jr. right fielder, and an up and coming freshman. Too bad their coach could not instill team playing in his older players. Too bad he lets other adults and some of his players tell him what to do.

  19. 1. Mt. Juliet---they are number one in district, number one in the Tennessean, and number one for MrNoitAll top teams! As of now they have Beeches number! Morris is doing what Coach Pedigo thought that she would and that is to win, win, and win! The defense is playing great; the bats are always there at anytime to pop one out! Is there pressure I think there is always pressure to win but the attitude looks great and the team likes each other and enjoys each other and they want to go back to state and finish some unfinished business.

    2. Goodpasture---I think they are the best AA team in the state! They are playing top teams and playing great ball. Unless something really crazy happens you need to go out and watch this team because they will win the state again this year! I wish I had nine Cartwright??™s playing for me and I would keep my mouth shut (I am sure that Cascade11 does not believe that) and just throw out the ball and continue to win!

    3. Rossview---the Ladies from Clarksville had a very excellent week last week! I think that they proved that they can win against good teams. Yes, Riverdale did not have Cat and it may have been a different story but she was not there and the Hawks were and they put it on the Warriors. The Hawks have a big week playing against Friendship Christian but the most important thing is continue winning against a very good Dickson County team. Elrod is doing an outstanding job on the mound for Rossview!

    4. Beech---enjoy some success in the Gibbs tournament this past weekend but still lost to MJ for the second time! Now they must hope that someone else can beat MJ to have any chance to win district and that is not going to happen! Beech has a very big problem when they play MJ. But still a good team but not number 1!

    5. Friendship Christian---has some injuries that have caused the team some problems and have had to move several people around to set a line-up. But these ladies will be in great shape by the time state comes around! They have already locked up district which they do every year! Big game Wednesday against Rossview former coach playing against former player should be a good game to watch but the crystal ball has a loser already picked out!

    6. Forrest---very big wins for the little single A school from Chapel Hill where the famous light on the railroad tracks romps the tracks at night! The Ladies romp the softball field by defeating the bigger AAA schools last week! Now if that was not enough to tell people to watch out for this team that Coach Cheatham has put together I do not know what it will take! This team can play with any Mid-State school in any classification!

    7. Dickson County---is playing catch up with Rossview but they still have a very good chance to advance this year. The team is playing very well but not sure of the quality of the teams that they are beating. But with Dampf on the mound she is going to keep them in every game. Team is very well coached!

    8. Davidson Academy---had some very big wins over Rossview and Friendship last week. The pitching of McCullough has been getting better and the team is playing a lot better than at the first of the year! The defense is the strong point of this team! Very well coached! If they continue to improve who is going to stop them from going to the state?

    9. Blackman---is going to challenge Riverdale for the district title maybe? But the problem is that Riverdale is in Blackman??™s head that they can not beat them and they have not! Big wins for Blackman this past weekend but struggle with an average Warren County team at home. I am not sure that this team has put together and identity of who they are yet and time is getting closer for the district tournaments.

    10. I have no clue!! But here goes??¦??¦??¦Riverdale, Siegel, East Robertson, Father Ryan, Wilson Central, Tullahoma, Shelbyville, Creek Wood, Waverly, Pope John Paul, BGA, Greenbrier, Ezell Harding, DeKalb, Summertown??¦??¦??¦??¦??¦..and the list could go on but let me tell you who will not be number 10. Maplewood, Hillsboro, Franklin County, Lincoln County, LaVergne, East Hickman, Page, Giles County, MLK, White House, Springfield, Overton, Franklin, East Hickman, Harpeth, Smith County, Van Buren County, Lebanon, Columbia Academy, Culleoka, Portland, Wayne County, Middle Tn Christian, F.C. Boyd Christian School, Webb School, Hampshire, Spring Hill, Lewis County, Warren County, Cookeville, Clay County, Red Boiling Springs, Smyrna, White County, Huntland, Grundy County, Moore County, Lawrence County, Columbia, Richland, Brentwood, FRA, Fairview, Kenwood, Clarksville NW,NE, Clarksville High, Stewart County and etc! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
