  1. 6-1 loss after a 3-0 win a few weeks previously...that's a huge score defecit for a state match. did JPII just give up after a goal or two? I can't see them losing that badly having given their best effort for the whole match.

  2. Baylor needs to take care of business first tuesday. And should do that but Webb did a good job and ususally does against Baylor. But heres to hoping for a Baylor/McCallie rematch. Both are very, very good teams with tons of talent.

Agreed. the two top teams in the Chatt. area distinctively. and thanks for the time, i wouldn't miss it

  3. don't know if he was at 100% but highly unlikely. i think he was alittle tentative on it but made nice moves as always. did not come in until halfway thru the first half so that says alot. i have not seen a time for the baylor/webb game yet..but will post it when available. sounds like nd's goalie stepped up like webb's did against us.

    thanks...looking forward to a Mccallie/Baylor rematch.

  4. Carter came in halfway thru the 2nd half played probably half of the game. Murray still out. Probably had at least 20 shots to 3 or 4. Their goalie was outstanding though. Similar to what I read about McCallie way outshoting Notre Dame but scoring just 1 late in the game. Estanban Villeral scored. Rematch is Tuesday at Baylor and that will tell the tale. Webb disrupted us for sure in the first half and withstood a ton of shots in the 2nd half.

was he at 100%? and you are right about mccallie/notre dame...rediculous amount of shots and no goals. NDs keeper surprised all of us mccallie fans by making several outstanding plays/saves when we were trying to take advantage of murphy's absence. and what time is the game on tues? wouldnt miss it

  5. McCallie scrimmaged Boyd last year in a pre-season game. While it is not a real game, everyone still treats it like one on the field. I also believe Baylor played them last year in season...

Brad Gibson (CCS Goalie) kept CCS in the game not only this year, but he did this last year vs. McCallie and I am sure countless other opponets as well. He is really good. Other than that, I do not think the 1-0 score reflects the game.

Brad certainly did have an excellent game, and while mccallie's lack of further goals was largely due to him, there were some blatant chances that mccallie just didn't finish. they had a missed PK, and several other chances right in front of an open net. just didn't land. regardless, mccallie dominated the possession and the flow of the game, but kudos to CCS and the keeper for keeping us off the scoreboard to that extent.

  6. You are right it should be an intense game with alot on the line in the east region. Will hope that Carter Paden and Brett Murray will be back from injuries but not sure yet. Not sure that Baylor has to have a 3-0 win for top seed. If Baylor were to win 2-0 that would be a tie with McCallie since the two tied earlier. Then McCallie won 2-0 at Webb. If it ends in a tie....not sure what the tie breaker would be. 3-0 win would be tough especially if the injured players are not back. Webb will be fired up for sure as they need a win to get a number 2 seed.

not exactly sure, but i heard that if that were the case (baylor winning 2-0) then it would just come down to a coin toss. which in my opinion is a rediculous way to potentially decide who goes to state and who stays home.

  7. After seeing the way Webb played against McCallie this past friday, i would say they have little chance of pulling out a victory over baylor. the real question is how badly baylor will beat them, as i think they need a 3-goal differential or higher to take the #1 seed. going to be an intense game either way, especially since webb has beaten baylor for the past 2 years.

  8. Injury bug is biting Baylor right now. Lost Carter P. last night (ankle) on a terrible tackle from behind. Zander has broken wrist. Forward Brett M. out with injury, as well. Hope these players are able to return in time for next week's big game against Webb.

How serious are these injuries? I hope these guys can get back into their season soon.

  9. Man you can't take it can you. I have nothing to even do with this but your quotes made me want to respond. You said you agreed with 100% of what he said. He said it was a blantant handball....so I guess you do not agree with 100% now? Whatever. What great eyes you have that it hit in the armpit area.....laughable. I was not even there as ND had a game....your quotes are just funny that's all. And I am done....because it really doesn't matter to me. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

then keep your mouth shut and your posts to yourself it you don't know what you're talking about. ah i can't wait for MC to play ND. thats what's gonna be funny

  10. Good to see that you agree with 100% of his post since he too saw that the ref missed a "blantant handball on a Baylor attack" that would have been game changing. So only good job mr. referee on calling a spectacular game since you are a McCallie student or player. If the shoe was on the other foot you would not feel the same way for sure.

the handball wasn't blatant. it hit the defender somewhere around the armpit after bouncing off of his chest. even if it was a valid handball, which is debatable, if this is the only thing you can find wrong with the officiating, then kudos to the ref. and cincyred, with the "shoe on the other foot" even agreed that the refs did a good job. as for baylor, im sure a win with a PK would have been better than a tie, but anyone would rather win off of a legitimate goal, especially if said goal was the deciding factor. please bother to read what other people have posted about this subject before you attack me for bias, especially about something as controversial as refereeing. thanks.

  11. Since I began this strand, I should probably add a post game comment. I had previously stated that McCallie is the best team in this area. After watching this match, and adding in McCallie's win over Dalton, I stand by that statement. McCallie is not much better than Baylor, but I still think that they are slightly better. In the first half, McCallie definitely created the better chances. Baylor struggled to get numbers forward and their attacks were mostly quick counters with their attackers facing 2v4 or 1v3 situations. Conversely, McCallie managed to get a lot of players in the box. While they did not finish, they did put a few balls on frame, and they also had some missed opportunities to play open players at the D. I saw no really dangerous attacks out of Baylor in the first half. I will admit that Baylor created more opportunities in the second half, so you could just about split this one. I still, however, saw McCallie get a few dangerous chances in the second half as well. I have frankly been surprised by the number of people, some of whose soccer opinions I respect, that felt that Baylor looked like the better team in that match. As an unbiased observer and fan of the game, I saw McCallie getting the better of the play, chances, and possession. Lastly, Patrick did a solid job refereeing a high-pressure match. I felt that he was consistent with his no calls. I did see one blatant handball on a Baylor attack that he missed, and I felt that he should have given a yellow to both Jesse and Zander for their antics at the end of the game. I do, however, respect his not throwing a yellow in the last minutes of a 0-0 match. I have read, and heard, several complaints about the lack of cards in this match, but I thought that it was generally a fairly clean match on both team's parts. I have definitely seen more hard-hitting Baylor v. McCallie matches in the past.

I agree 100% with this post, especially about the refereeing. the calls were consistent, he let the boys play, which is better for this kind of a game. and even though jesse and zander were both deserving of yellows, it was in the best interest for the control of the game not to award them. great job mr. referee. he called a spectacular game, which is usually rare in chattanooga /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

  12. Sorry man, but you sound just as biased....well you leave no doubt that you are now. Especially against Danny V....are you the blue goalie or Dad. I would not have noticed it until you keep bringing up Danny and building up the other goalie.

I'm a Mccallie student and an avid soccer fan, but i am not a player and definitly not a parent. and i never said anything bad against danny, where are you getting that? i said he's a great goalie, he just didn't get any action in this game, so i don't see why he was put in the standout section. as for the MC goalie, he had a good game thats all.

  13. Soccerman08....were you keeping the stats at this game? No way McCallie had 12 shots. The paper was wrong and if you were there, you would have scratched your head about this shot count. I think they had 6-7. Also, Zander was the one who was fouled, not Cartter K. The fact that the ref let the play go on so that Jesse and Hill could level cheap shots on Z was ridiculous. After the abuse, you must not have seen Zander point at Jesse telling him that the whistle had blown. Zander was never knocked to the ground despite the hacks he took.

and you would give this version of what didn't happen being zander's dad and all...

  14. Cincyred, I find it a little arrogant to say that Baylor only has themselves to question. I'm like Bluelion, I really don't have a fight to pick, but that statement seems to assume too much and doesn't come off too well with anyone who doesn't follow Baylor soccer. I'm guessing you're a Baylor fan. How many MC games have you seen this season? MC did play well on Friday from what i saw and, yes, Baylor created a lot of opportunities, but isn't a little unrealistic that you can sum up the other team in one game. More than anything, I thought the game was a very defensive struggle. Baylor's offensive play made more opportunities than MC's, but I think both defenses deserve some praise, it wasn't just Baylor's inability to put the ball in the net. I know this chat is full different opinions, but as an observer, yours seem to be some of the most biased.

VERY well put, i've observed consistent bias with his posts as well. and the paper usually makes mistakes with these games...what did they say kelly smith's last name was? griffin or something...hahaha. Danny VV in the standout section could have easily been a misprint...maybe they meant to put Higgins. no disrespect to danny, great keeper, but never had to do anything spectacular in this game. his punt was dwarfed in that game, though..

  15. OK, I was at this game and I have no dog in the hunt. Went because I am a soccer fan and because of the hype. As far as I am concerned it was a great game by two very good teams. I was much more impressed with Baylor and especially the 2nd half felt that McCallie was lucky to get out with a tie. Just my unbiased opinion. Don't know any of the players by name so can't comment on that part. If they play again....I hope to be there for sure.

how were they lucky? there were only about two major SOG in the second half, and they were both saved.

  16. Let me say upfront that I thought McCallie played as well as they could play. Hat's off to the Blue Tornado. They came to play... not settling to sit back and defend the whole game. Baylor has had to suffer this tactic all season, with teams deciding to play all 11 on defense against them, hoping to escape with a tie. Not McCallie and I commend them.

I will say that Baylor got caught playing McCallie's type of game, as it became a very physical test. While the 0-0 score was surprising, it was unbelievable that no cards were given. McCallie played reckless and were not penalized for it. McCallie's Hill J. had at least 7 fouls by my count and no card was given for his cumulative effect on the game. I think the ref did not have his best game in this regard. He should have cautioned this player with a yellow.

Zander was harrased throughout much of the game. To his credit, he did not lose his composure until near the end when he was awarded a foul, only to have to suffer 2 cheap shots by Jesse M. & Hill J. before the ref stopped the play. (They claimed they did not hear the whistle on the initial foul). "Flooring Zander" was needless, dirty, abuse. It would have been "justice" if Zander had finished the chance he had, but Matt H. made the save of the game to keep Baylor off the scoreboard.

Baylor will be ready for McCallie should their paths cross again down the road. I will say a 0-0 tie was a "win" for McCallie, however Baylor can (and will) play much better if a rematch occurs. I do not think McCallie can play any better than they did last night, certainly not from their defensive players. Baylor did not bring their "A" game, and only have their selves to question. McCallie has awakened the Red Raiders.

Soccerman....where you at the same game I was at last night? Crabtree was totally a non-factor, as Roden shut him down all game. Kerr had moments where he penetrated, but did not have any dangerous attempts. Baylor's defense really had a pretty easy evening. Baylor's mids were the ones who had the tough fight.

I agree, this was a very, very physical game. However, I continue to think that the game would have lost much more control had the referee thrown out the cards to every little thing. yes, maybe a couple of Hill's wins in the midfield were a bit on the aggressive side, but if a card was given to him, then one wouldve needed to have been given to several other players on both teams. For example, Kelly Smith employed his usual deplorable tactics, making an animated dive in the first 5min to get the red a FK awarded. this was called once. after that one time, the ref vocally cautioned kelly and carter for diving. two of the most gifted actors i've ever seen play in high school. i thought the ref did a good job recognizing it consistently throughout the game.

Your recount of the little scene at the end with zander/hill/jesse was a laughably twisted version of what actually occured. One, Hill wasn't even involved in that play, it was Cartter Kerr. Cartter stole the ball from zander, who immediatly retaliated by riding cartters back. cartter stopped because he heard the whistle, while zander kept going after the ball and trying to hack cartter at the same time. this was a good 3sec after the whistle had been blown. eventually, jesse, who was tired of seeing zander foul all over kerr after the whistle had been blown so long ago, ran in and pushed the already-infuriated zander to the ground, possibly saving kerr an injury. zander threw a nice little hissy fit after that, having completely lost his head awhile ago. it was zander, not jesse and cartter, who claimed not to have heard the whistle, as he was the only player on the field still going for the ball. everyone else had stopped.

and this 0-0 tie was not by any means a "win" for mccallie, our mids/forwards were hanging their heads after the game, frustrated by the number of opportunities that they couldn't finish. according to today's paper, mccallie outshot baylor 12-10, danny VV having made 4 saves and matt H having made 3. everything else was off-frame. that doesn't look like a "win" to me. it looks like a "loss" because the blue had more opportunities.

  17. You know I reread my post and don't see what got you on a rant. I said both teams played great. Did not say any team dominated. Both teams are very impressive for sure. What I meant was we had multiple chances in the 2nd half and it seemed instead of ripping it...we would try to get that perfect position and allow the defense to step in. Just a bit to hesitant. But Baylor did have the better opportunities in the 2nd half. To say that Kerr and Crabtree ripped holes thru the red is grossly inacurate...as anyone that witnessed the game knows. They are both very good players but the defense contained them pretty well ....especially Crabtree. I wonder why you are so amused at wanting to rip Zander though. It was rather entertaining watching Jesse get redfaced as well. The Baylor fans found that as amusing. I agree with you about the refs. It was a rough game and cards could have been thrown....at that point they were wise not to. I don't see how they missed the handball on McCallie though in the box....everyone saw it. Regardless, it was an outstanding soccer game played by two outstanding teams. It was indeed an entertaining game by both teams that may see each other again in playoffs.

it was an unintentional arm-ball in the box, and oliver's arm was at his side...really a case of if the ref is willing to make a picky call and give such a close and great game away on a pk. and i only saw jesse get redfaced after he floored zander. i didnt mean to rip on him, he's a great player, but he lost his head in the second half, and in my opinion he got his just desserts for riding kerr's back like he did. haha, i just want to see what happens when these two teams can't end in a 0-0 tie. i think the past 3 B vs M games have ended regulation time with that score. two excellent defenses combined with two great offenses that somehow can never seem to just put the ball on frame... and the rant wasn't directed just at you, though it mightve seemed that way. im just defending an excellent mccallie team who don't seem to have favor on these boards
