  1. Dyer County paid for none of their gear for girls and boys basketball. They're sponsored by Nike... Bottom line.

I wouldn't wear a pair of Nikes to the barn to feed the cows...bottom line.

  2. Intergrity?  Maybe it is just a good lesson for judgmental rock throwers about casting stones.  Not everyone feels the same as the pious pharisees on this board....a HUGE portion of folks don't. Major support from Riverdale family.  I wasn't the only person that felt this way...Cory will be a huge asset to Lebanon.

What he did is akin to shaving points off a game without the gambling presence and that is unforgivable. Were the supporters you mentioned numbered in the crowd of fans who booed him and his team when it became apparent they were "tanking" the game? Look I have no problem with him trying to coach someplace...it is obvious he is pretty good at it...but no he doesn't need to be allowed to do so...he compromised the game...on the high school level...and if that makes me a "pious Pharisee" then so be it. Stones being loaded...

  3. He that is without sin cast the first stone

Nobody is damning his soul to heck...he just should be banned from ever coaching high school kids again...I mean didn't they ban Shoeless Joe Jackson and the Black Sox for throwing a game? The support this guy is getting on his Twitter sickens me...just out and out lack of integrity.

  4. Good hire for Lebanon if that's the case! We all have a lapse in judgement sometimes ! Wishing Cory the best Of luck . We must remember folks everyone deserves a second chance .

Lapse in judgment does not constitute throwing a hs game...that is called a lack of ethics and professionalism. I may say he deserves another chance but please don't try and sugar coat it.

  5. Cory Barrett will be named Lebanon girls coach on monday.

Hope this isn't true but if so that tells me everything about the character(or lack of) concerning Lebanon's AD and principal. Hiring someone who was forced to resign for embarrassing his former school.

  6.  Funny!

I have heard the parents were rough on the coach and administration at Central this last year.

What happened at Central was to be expected.  There were no returning players with significant experience.

Bond was under fire from parents long before this year. Crazy how folks are even when you win and go to state tournaments.

  7. Memphis Central High School has an opening for the position of Head Boys Basketball Coach.  You can email all resumes to bradybenjamin23@aol.com and mcculloughgf@scsk12.org or mail your resume to Memphis Central High School 306 S. Bellevue Memphis Tn 38104. You must have coaching experience to apply for this position.  Memphis Central competes in a highly competitive district 16 AAA that produces some of the best teams in the state.  If you have any questions you can contact Brady Benjamin ( Athletic Director ) at the above email address.

Faragi Phillips...surely you have called him.

  8. Why can't it be the other way?  His players close ranks and rally around him in a time of crisis.  It's evident that it wasn't a sanctioned fight-so why would it matter if he "took a beat down"?  C'mon Man!!!!

Oh I totally agree with you on this...and that should be what happens...but we all know how hs kids are. If it happened to a teacher some kids would look on it as a weakness and I think the effectiveness would be diminished...that is the way they think...sad but true.

  9. I know this may not be appropriate but in all honesty it's going to be hard for Ron to come back and be effective now. I would look at it from a kid's perspective and from mine if I were in this situation. The coach took a severe beat down from a kid. Yes it was criminal and the kid needs to be prosecuted but we all know he will be back on the streets...its the way the juvenile system works. I just don't think his players will look at him in the same manner now...and he will always be on the offensive. It's going to hurt his discipline no way around it. I just wonder if this would have happened with Rankin...and what would he have done if it did.

  10. Is there a teaching position open? Didn't Coach Moore stay to teach? Coach Phillips is staying also right? I mean you shouldn't get rid of someone just because they don't want to coach but it has to hinder the hiring process a little right? Just wondering

They can be moved to another school...isn't that what they were going to do with Wes?

  11. Coach Stone bled orange & black, SP needs a guy that will work tirelessly to improve.

Wes did a great job with baseball. He did a great job in football. He has never coached hs basketball in his life. The community wants a basketball coach...an experienced one. Now he should have never been allowed to leave this community. Great person. I say right the wrongs. Hire him back as assistant football and head baseball coach. Bring in a proven basketball coach. If you want a good team to compliment that nice facility we have.

  12. I'll tell you what is really sad. Channel 4 is reporting this thing and the assigned reporter states they went through the coach's personnel file to see if he had any past disciplinary letters or reprimands. No doubt they were looking for anything they could blame him for. Typical media garbage...just looking to nail this guy and somehow vindicate this criminal that accosted him. These people are fabricating vultures...

  13. You're exactly right, he wasn't the coach so I guess it doesn't matter. But wouldn't a coach who ran a strong disciplined program, worked hard, and had the respect of his players be what any team would need? Whether it was baseball, basketball, or Football? There, back on topic of football. Lol.

You are right. Maybe he wanted to see if he could do the job in baseball. It is obvious it wasn't going to work. He went back to MS I think and got back into basketball opening the door for the success we would later have with Coach Stone. Got to give the coach props. Most would have selfishly hung on instead of thinking of the kids.

  14. And what kind of record did that propel the Pirates to in baseball that year?

Not sure that is even relevant. Question is what would the basketball program have been if he were the coach. He wasn't so what does it matter?  As to baseball he was a strong discipline guy that ran a disciplined program and demanded and got respect from our kids. He worked hard but he was not what baseball needed so he was smart enough to step down. I appreciated that. Class guy. Now as the Ambassador stated lets get back to Pirate football. Take basketball talk to the basketball board.

  15. Coach Thompson, now that's a name I haven't heard in awhile! I've got a lot of respect for him. He took time out of his schedule and filled in as baseball coach for a short time during my senior year so we could put a team on the field.

....and since we've gone back 21 years, why not go back a few more. I ran into coach Peercy several months ago at Walmart here in McMinnville. He was a little surprised to see a Smith County jacket in Warren Co.

Congratulations to Scott on his hiring. He'll do a good job for the program.

Coach Thompson was a hard nosed old school coach with a heart. I think Scott is going to be the same type coach. I used to see him in Lebanon every now and then. He never failed to come over and shake my hand and talk to me. He would always start the conversation with "Son I never should have left Smith Co". This from a man who has coached in big schools and had some great teams.

  16. Coach Scott Apple has been chosen as the new head coach of SCHS. His assistant will be Dusty Whitaker. They havent announced it publicly but a few ppl and the team were told yesterday. It is official that he will take the spot as well as Coach Whit and I wish the best of luck to them and our team in the future.

This is a great hire for the school:thumb:

  17. I think it will almost have to be Apple or Whitaker.....Whitaker was an assistant last year..(on the bench with Angel and Apple). I don't see anybody else wanting the job..(not sure Apple wants it)....and haven't hear of any body beating the door down to get it.

Dusty Whitaker seems to be a good guy...he coaches grade school and helped the high school. How much experience he has...I don't know. Kids seem to like him......I think he is from Clay Co.???

I believe we are going to need something more than a grade school coach. We need a Bobby McWilliams type coach. May be a nice kid but I don't see it...or Z King of Swing either.

  18. Don't want my input on this one...I HATE basketball...

Although...I wouldn't mind seeing Thompson back...he and Apple would be good entertainment...SCHS would lose every game cause of the technicals they would get fighting with each other on the sidelines...

Some advice...people seeking the job...now or in the future...should be very careful of what they say about the place that might give them an opportunity to coach...the wrong words in the right ears means no jobby job

Queenbee. I would like to see that too. Those 2 would be great together. I know Coach Thompson has always loved Carthage and his experience would be invaluable. It would be nice for us to see him back home in Bill Landreth Gym.
