  1. Seems like this season is showing OR administration and parents that they made a huge mistake in letting the Old Wise man (OJ) go. Only time will truly tell for sure, but how long has it been since OR did not advance to the regional tournament? They have plenty of talent just not enough drive and direction this season. Good luck Akula I don't envy you coming into this situation with some big shoes (or no shoes! LOL) to fill. I know most everyone on Coacht is pulling for ya.

It's very unfair of you to speculate that the former coach would have been more successful based on only one season of play. Coaching isn't the only reason teams struggle occasionally, and there are some up-and-coming teams in that region as well. The days of Bearden, Farragut, & Oak Ridge deciding Region 2 may be over.

  2. The pic of Lampart's goal is actually off axis. The only way to truly determine if it was in the goal is to have the camera directly in line with the goal line. One can not determine where the ball is from that picture. It could be a parallax optical illusion.

I was able to easily find videos of Lampard's non-goal on Youtube which clearly show the ball hitting the ground a couple feet behind the line, plus the picture's caption states the replay showed it to be across the line.

I believe that there is a place for instant replay in soccer, albeit in a limited role, maybe as a tool for the 4th ref. And possibly even incorporate the electronic line thingies that they use in tennis.

Officiating imperfection doesn't have to be a part of the game.

  3. Farragut at Oak Ridge Who has the edge?

Farragut tops Oak Ridge on the road 1-0. Congrats to the Lady Admirals for a hard-fought win over Eurosportscoreboard's top ranked AAA team. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    No rebounds for O.R. tonight! /bored.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bored:" border="0" alt="bored.gif" />

  4. Was a good win for the girls, as any win always is; however Coaching and offense has not changed. Seymour should have tied us as 2-3 of the goals went right through Keepers hands. Anyone know how soon you have to move in order for Student to play next Fall at a new School?

Is the program really that bad at Powell? If your daughter is not playing much, I hope you are not blaming the coach. You can switch schools all you want, but if you criticize the coach, your daughter probably won't play much no matter where she goes to school.

And as far as I know, if you change residences, the athlete can play immediately. If you transfer without moving, they cannot play for 12 months from the last game they participated in.

  5. Seriously?? No, it doesn't have to happen. A good coach respects his opponents.

It probably happens more often than it should, but sometimes these lopsided scores are inevitable due to huge mismatches. In these one-sided games, you may have a coach who is trying to get some playing time for his bench, who are likely much more skilled than the weaker team's starters. It's pretty tough to rein in players who don't get to play much.

I do agree that it is inexcusable for a team to keep starters on the field in lopsided games, particularly those playing offensive positions. A good, creative coach should be able to make the game somewhat challenging for his players without further humiliating the opposition. There's no benefit for either team when the stronger team just keeps pounding away, proving again & again what everyone already knows.

  6. Okay, well that definitely got the discussion going, and I agree with alot of what everyone has said. The key issue really the major issue I have, is when you choose a captain (and no it wasn't my daughter even though she was last year for Harvey), and you ask her to be open and talk to you as a Coach, and you want her input when there is a problem; do you blast her and tell her she doesn't even know how to play soccer the right way, and her idea is Stupid? Do you rip your Assistant Coach apart infront of the girls? Just my thoughts and observations as a former Competitive Soccer Coach and Former High School and College Player. For the record, he has not really been that hard on my daughter compared to how hard I was on her, but if her teammates are distressed, upset and for the first time in their soccer careers are praying for rain so they don't have to go to practice to be berrated you tell me.

If you want your daughter to sit the bench all season, trashing her coach in a public forum is a sure way to do it. You had better hope for her sake that he doesn't figure out who you are. If she was a captain last year, and doesn't play this year, your comments here may be the main reason why.

If he cannot identify you, he may simply punish the entire team.

I have a question for you, ws6transam30. You claim to be a former coach. Did you apply for the Powell coaching position? As they say, "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

  7. Its easy to tear people down if it makes you feel better about yourself. But that is not very sporting and we are talking about children.

I'm not trying to tear anyone down, I had just heard some stuff about OR and their coach, and I wanted to get some more info from someone who has first-hand knowledge. When you hear stuff about a program, and you see the numbers drop so dramatically, rumors start floating around, and questions will arise.

This year the team will be OK, but next year they will need a keeper.

Didn't you guys have three keepers last year? What happened to them?

  8. That wasnt the point of the post. The point was to show it was a team effort, and that those girls will be back. The fact that the player was there to read the game and be in the right place and make the most of the situation was outside the original intent.

I know that just a few years ago Oak Ridge was able to field a full JV team and rostered somewhere around 35 total players. Now their website only lists 22 varsity players and no JV. Since you are obviously an Oak Ridge parent, can you tell me why Oak Ridge has had such a dropoff in roster size the past few years? Is it because of the coach or ???

  9. Their Coach refused to put the 4-0 Loss they suffered to the KFC Mustangs, and the loss to the KFC Magpies, and the loss to the KFC Diamonds.....make sure you ask their coach why he hid those games on Soccer in College.

All three of those games are listed on the Krossfire soccerincollege.com page. In addition, the 4-0 score you stated was actually 3-0.

  10. Well, I did some research about this Krossfire team and in May they won a very competitive tournament in Atlanta here are the results on Soccer in College. Also I noticed that they play U17 in all the college showcase tournaments and played very tight games with high ranked true U17 or U18 teams,

Just for the record, teams with a national ranking of 200th or worse are not considered "highly ranked"

    Cannons Spring Challenge Cup

    May 2008

    Under 19 Girls Gold Division

    X

    W 3-0 Concorde Fire South 91 Elite

    W 3-1 Lady Freedom

    W 2-0 Afc Lightning 91 Silver

    W 2-0 Lady Cannons 92 Gold

All of those team are ranked around 300th or worse nationally. It may have been a competitive tournament, but when a team ranked in the high 200's beats teams in the low to mid 300's, it's not really much to get excited about.

I don't think any of this has much to do with high school soccer anyway, since the makeup of the teams are not the same. Anyone who has seen what a difference a few guest players make in club soccer certainly should understand that a few quality players can make a profound difference in any team's performance.

  11. Nope, my daughter's Competitive team and another 2 teams in the her club played them or should I say toyed with them!!!!!!!!

After looking at Oak Ridge's 2008 roster, I recognize a few names from some pretty darn good division 1 competitive teams. I doubt that they were playing with the Krossfire when your daughter's team or the others you mention "toyed" with them. Is your daughter's club team mostly players from Powell?

I have not heard of any high-profile club players that play for Powell, although I am certainly not an expert. You mentioned that Powell's players are all playing for Div. 1 & 2 teams. Were any of those teams good enough to qualify for state tournament?

For the record, the Krossfire is a division 1 team.

  12. Here is a pick to get people excited or up in arms, lol:

Class AAA Region 2 District 3

    1. Powell

    2. Karns

    3. West

    4. Oak Ridge

    5. Halls

    6. Central

    7. Clinton

    Let's see how many interesting comments we get from this /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Wow! What have you got against Oak Ridge? Although I think they will struggle some offensively, I would still pick them to win the district, but I don't see them getting any further than that.

I agree with your bottom three, but I think I would flip the top four.

  13. What I hear is that although OR got by Farragut last year in Region's, Farragut is loaded and OR lost its star scorer Trenna Howell who will be tough to replace. Bearden is defending State champ. I guess enough said there. As I said, I have limited knowledge...just trying to get discussion going.

I have heard that Oak Ridge should have pretty solid defense and good midfield, but they are shorthanded up front. I think the well is starting to dry up for them, as I have been told that they did not have a very good turnout this year for tryouts and will not have a JV team at all. I have also heard that their coach is a bitter pill, and could be the reason for their low numbers.

Look for Bearden to win it all again.
