  1. It would be impossible for them to be a contender for the AA title since they are a AAA school.......

Forgot to put BEECH on my original list.

That was my point. They have basically played a AA schedule thus far--Montgomery Central, Creekwood, Cheatham Co, Greenbrier--but they haven't beat a solid AAA team, and got blown away to the one good AAA team they played.

  2. This just in! The Clarksville Northeast boys basketball team was attacked by a pack of hungry Wildcats in the Livingston Academy gym tonight. LA got off to a sluggish start but quickly got on track and took control of the game. They were up by around 15 at the half and put NE away with a strong third quarter. They lead by 30+ before emptying their bench and coasted to a 24 point win.

Looks like they must have taken your advise!!

What was the difference maker tonight? This seemed like it would be a very competitive game, but 24 points says otherwise. Wasn't there, so maybe someone could fill me in.

  3. Is Stanton really headed to Oak Hill Academy next season?

Corey Stanton is a quick, exciting point guard who will probably be on the short list of possible district mvp's this year. So yes, he is very good.

  4. Northeast 21 Rossview 6...................................................

Don't know if this score is accurate or not, but if it is it is a big win for NE. I know this doesn't mean they are playoff bound (they don't need to make the playoffs for this season to be a success), but I am very happy for the coaching staff and especially the players. Lord knows they went through more than any other program in the area in the off season (great job by the administration, but that shouldn't surprise anyone), but these guys have really come together and really represented NE well tonight.

Great job!!! Good luck next week!

  5. I can tell you from experience referees would like to see the larger box. I have officiated for many years, and have always felt if the coaches are coaching then it doesn't matter where they stand. After all it is called a coaches box not a refereeing box. To address the comment about officials worry too much about the box, well let me say we have to enforce the rules no matter how silly they are or we will suffer the conseqences. If we ignore the coaches box can we ignore traveling? Yes we do have consequences, I was working a blowout game some folks from the state office was there to watch as I had been nominated for a state tourney that year., the coach of the team being blown out was having what i would term friendly banter with me after the game was questioned why I didn't "T" him up for being out of the box. I still got to work the state that year but If you think about it that is a RULE.

I didn't mean to imply that referees should not enforce the rule. My point was that when the box is only six feet wide, if a coach takes two steps he or she is out of the box, and now the referee has something else to deal with. Basketball may very well be the hardest sport to officiate (I was a certified referee in basketball and an umpire as well once upon a time) and widening the box may make the job a little bit easier.

  6. Not at all taking away anything Franklin did, but I do know that Moeller is a big football school in Cincinnati and a lot of their players generally play football as well, so it wouldn't surprise if a player or two was missing because of football work. Still, congrats to Franklin on taking care of business. Winning against Moeller anytime is an accomplishment.

  7. I would love to see this changed. Six feet is a joke to try and coach from, and referees are often times too concerned about watching the box rather than something much more relative to the game itself. Most coaches are simply coaching when they are out of the box, not yelling at the officials, which should not be a problem.

A final point would be that most coaches will not yell at officials who will talk with them. Too many officials simply won't communicate with coaches which only makes the coaches more irritated and likely to yell at officials to get their points across.

    Just a thought.

  9. With the situation being like it is (and no end in sight) is there any precedent for the TSSAA to step in and take action? It is one thing for NEHS to choose to ruin their own football program, but when you start affecting the schedules of other teams and a region schedule, it would seem logical that the TSSAA would want to prevent that from happening.

Also, if the parents are as upset as they claim to be on here, why are they not making more noise in the public? NEHS gets very little publicity in Clarksvillle, and I imagine that few people within in the city actually know the situation out there. Why are letters not being written to the newspaper and other media outlets to make this situation more publicly known? If you want the school system in Clarksville to take action on something there has to be some negative press around in order for that to happen.

  10. This was posted on a local Clarksville athletics message board...

I don't think this was over wins and losses. And I am certain that Mike Gibson is smart enough to know when and when not to fire a coach. In these situations, where neither party talks, there is usually something that nobody wants to talk about. Mike can't comment, because it violates certain protocols of the employee/employer relationship. If Coach Donahue wants to comment, then he will. Otherwise, there are a few who know, and a lot who are guessing. But the school system would not allow a firing of a 30 veteran (whose wife is also an employee @ HQ) without any cause.

This seems to be the opinion that a lot of people around the area are starting to share. It's still just an odd situation...

You insinuate that Coach D did something improper. If that were the case why would he not be removed from the classroom as well? He was not relieved of his teaching responsibilities, only his coaching job (and a year before he was to retire, on his terms). Coach D is clean, and isn't going to go around beating his chest playing the pity card drawing attention to himself. This guy is one of the greatest coaches, of any sport, in the state of TN and the CHS administration really dropped the ball here.

By the way, his assistant coach is going to take over the program, according to the LC today.

  11. Ruppie, Hillwood is not coal-mining country for sure. Ask him next year if he regrets his decision. Heck, ask him after summer team camps are over. Two years tops.

Russell, KY isn't quite coal mining country, but it isn't Metro Nashville either. They compete in a very questionable region, and I think his record was way under .500 for the season. He will be in for a surprise when he gets to Hillwood.
