The states' coaches apparently wanted to show that great baseball is played in Tennessee, and picked their top team with that in mind.
I guess cbg feels it was unfair to give the mound to a 13-game winner from a state championship, nationally ranked team who holds the record for strikeouts in a state tournament game and had the most scoreless innings pitched in this year's tournament.
But others would say the kid proved he belonged when he pitched a complete opening game win over Georgia (which has many more top players than Tennessee). They would say the Norris freshman from Science Hill proved he belonged when he got a key hit for the win against last year's champion, Missouri, and that Tennessee's high school coaches are a bunch of old-school guys who apparently got it right.
I understand that cbg and others might think that Tennessee shouldn't have such players there to give its top team the best chance to win as many games as it can, regardless of their race, age, origin, year in school, or whatever.
But then, some still believe in merit that shines between the lines, even if it is not politically correct.
