  1. Was more like a decision than a win. I hate umpires deciding wins but in close games one side always feels slighted. DCA was playing with nerves in their first ever appearance, but still kept it close squandering a couple real oportunities to win. DCA continued on to knock off the defending state champs 11-3 and will likely be looking forward to the rematch. DA is playing with passion right now and have all the pieces. USJ will be hard pressed to beat them. But then, that is why we play the game...

What you excuse now CoachCap? USJ 2 solo home runs off you great pitcher. USJ is in the SHIP. They will have to be beat twice by either DCA or Donelson.

  2. Cody Malicoat (Jellico)

A high scoring affair...you could say that.

A game devoid of turnovers or unfortunate plays......maybe not.

The 2012 BCAT All-Star game turned out to be a nice game with the West behind six players in double digits outlasting the East 113-108 at Middle Tennessee Christian School on Saturday before the state championships.

The West built a 52-50 halftime advantage and never got more than 8 to 9 points ahead before the East made a run to narrow the gap.

Four players on the West squad led their squad with 14 points each including Marquarious Boddie (Bartlett), John Ross Glover (USJ), John Hudson (Dyer County) and Adam Weary (Ridgeway).

Cameron Golden (Ridgeway) and Demarc Richardson (Briarcrest) pitched in with 12 and 11 points respectively in the win.

For the East Aaron Wheeler (Morristown East) took game scoring honors with 23 points on a variety of drives to the hoop, slick slam backs and quick offensive boards.

C.J. Reese (McCallie) added 15 for the East and was joined in the score book by Drew Standifer (Bearden) with 13, Cody Malicoat (Jellico) and James Scales (Cherokee) with 12 points each and finally Jack "The Natural" Montague (Brentwood) with 10.

Everyone on the West squad was able to put points on the board including Robert Houston (Craigmont) and Fred Yarbrough (Dyer County) with 8, Kyle Weldon (Rossview) with 7, Kahan Swift (Jackson Southside) with 6 and DeAndre McKinnie (Bolivar Central) with 2.

For the East Braylen "Vitamin B" Bennett (Carter) finished with 7, Jervon Johnson (Ooltewah) added 5, Cordell James (McCallie) pitched in with 4 and rounding out the scoring was Keilan Blanks (Spring Hill) with 3.

Caleb Chowbay (Mt. Juliet) and Montrae Williams (Spring Hill) played but did not score for the East. Dee Oldham (Wilson Central) dressed but did not participate for the East squad.

  3. Just being real here, but your finalist will be Newby, Tucker, and Mullinicks and Newby will win it because of the simple fact that Mullinicks and Tucker will split the middle Tennessee vote pretty much along region lines, West Tennessee will vote for Newby, and East Tennessee will vote for the more highly publicized name recognition which is Newby by far. An honorable mention from the mid-state is Princeton Harlan of Mt Pleasant.

I disagree with you. Newby will win because he is that good in every area. Mr. Basketball is not based on one strong suit or your individual strenght along. Its the complete Package. Poythress is without a doubt a High DI so is Tay Tay. J3, Nichols who will be carring that trophy home in years to come.

If your are a great player you will get the ink. It will follow you and I don't mean on message boards. Colleges and recuriters follow you. Tay Tay has been on the College radar since he was in the 8th grade. he has proven to have what it takes to play on the big stage over time while conducting himself in an appropriate manner.

  4. Shout out to USJ boys and the comeback win over Fayette Academy. Great heart and composure on all the players part. Winslow came back in second half after rolling his ankle and hit the 3's to shift the game.

Coach Russell showed what he can do in out coaching the opponents also. Great Game and FA is a good team that will be present in the regions for sure.

  5. John Ross Glover. What an exciting player to watch. He appears to be a kid on a mission this year. He has a much better team around him. As I have said in other votes, John Ross has not limited himself to the High School arena. He has played all over the country with players like Newby, Elder, Poythress, Bradshaw, Golden, Hudson, Lindsey, J3, Nichols, etc etc from the state of TN and countless others that are high on the Unapproved Website from other parts of the country.

  6. Corn Elder is the best PG in the state in my opinion. He is one of those special players that is good at whatever he plays AEB Mr. Football winner this year. He also plays all over the country with Team Nashville and continues to play up an age bracket. He has "run with the big boys" since 8th grade.

  7. Tay Tay Newby should be the next Mr. Basketball. His single A school does not indicate this kid is playing on a lower level. Tay Tay played with the best in the country the past 4 years on the circuit as did a lot of players from Memphis and the state of TN. Tay Tay just shined a little brighter than most on the circuit.

As for you GURU.... how long have you been watching basketball. from your comment you sound like an idiot.

    Kyle Weldon -Rossview High School

    Daijon Williams -Clarksville High School

Montrae Williams -Spring Hill High School

Is Jarnell Stokes still eligible for this honor since he did not play HS ball his senior year.

  9. USJ loses @ St. George's Friday night 63-50. The two guards for SG shot lights out again and USJ did not shoot well at all. Never seem to get it going in that gym in the last few years.

My heart goes out to John Ross. They made it clear from the start that he was not going to be allowed to play in that game. 2 fouls in the first quarter and 4 by half. Sat most of the game before returning in the 4th and being eliminated almost immediately upon returning. Seemed pretty deliberate to me and was laughable to say the least. Maybe 1 foul in the first quarter but the other 4 calls made the intentions pretty obvious. For a kid that works so hard and rarely gets in foul trouble, I felt for him.

Hats off to the two kids from SG who couldn't miss and to the ref who felt it appropriate to act out Glover's last foul @ mid-court during the ensuing time-out while obviously trying to justify his call, you only made yourself look worse. Acting out something that didn't happen will not change what people actually saw.

This loss should make this team more determined.

    Through venting

From what I gather USJ just did not have a very good game. Once Glover was taken out of the picture with the double teaming they couldn't find the groove. Seems to me that if two players are guarding him then someone should be able to drive if the outside shot is not falling. Hope they can get it back together.

  10. USJ beat Fayette Academy in a sloppy game last night 60-36. Teams are starting to sag and triple team Glover but you can't do that with as much success this year as you could last. More outside shooters this year and well...Glover is better this year than last. If he can hit his free throws and the outside shots keep falling things will be ok. Team is doing a good job this year of playing unselfish (unlike last) and taking what the other team is giving.

Saw where St. George's beat JCS by 10 and Harding beat ECS by the same. Lausanne continues to roll and FACS is winning as well.

Seems to be another year of parity in the West.

Interesting note about Hodge? Any idea if it's long term or just a few games? Never heard of Nash.

Like I said before, Good luck to you guys until Feb. or so...then not so much.

At times USJ looks like a TEAM!

FA just couldn't hit the outside shot at all. FA and USJ will be a part of that first weekend in March. That is my prediction.

  11. Agreed. Great game by both teams. Sloppy on USJ's part but very hard fought by all the kids.

Great officiating crew (did I really just say that). Fair on both sides and didn't try to be the center of attention. They let Glover get pushed around a little more than they should but all in all, I will take those three on any given night. But, and there is a but....they did miss one near the end. The ball can't cross the plane of the top of the board in EITHER direction, so you can't shoot from behind the goal back over the front and it count...although that was one heck of a shot from a really good player in Hall.

Good luck to both schools moving forward. TCA is gonna be a hand full in that district.

Agree that TCA is going to be a handful in their District. Not sure of how they will come out in Region due to lack of middle presence and overall size.

Regarding Glover getting pushed around I thought his coach did a good job of contolling the momentum of the crowd especially when the pushing/fouling became more of an issue on both teams part. No one can play basketball when they are over-emotional.

  12.:roflolk: Booom!! He however still has to get enrolled and pass the clearing house which at UT can be an adventure in itself!

I think I speak however for all Volunteer's fans when I say thank you to the TSSAA for making this Big Orange Christmas Present possible! :thumb:

Wondering if you could speak more about this. I am not clear about how the TSSAA was in this.

  13. Good Game, Packed House, Great Great Sportsmanship on both teams. USJ came out on Top.

The Officiating was very good. Yes they missed a few but from what I've seen this year these guys were wonderful. Congrat to both teams, fans and officials.
