  1. Newby makes it looks easy sometimes. Just blew by and scored at will. I think the run is starting.
  2. BTW offense doesn't look like it would be hard to learn?
  3. They are getting out hustled now. Playing like they are already beat with 5 min. left?
  4. Right now they are tied in the "I can take a worse shot" than you game.
  5. Not what I expected so far
  6. First time I've seen Liberty play this year. I assume they are much better than what I saw today? Howard was one ball handler away from taking this one in my opinion although Liberty's D looks to make "good" ball handlers look bad. Did not shoot very well today.
  7. After being down by as many as 19, Humboldt cut it to 9
  8. First of all, let me preface this by saying that even though I'm from a TCA rival school, I was standing on my kitchen counter listening to Reitz and pulling for the Lions. I don't wanna come across as defending BTW or the Sheriff but you gotta give the TCA faithful their due. If you don't think playing on front of that crowd doesn't make a difference then you haven't been their before. Every kid should have that chance and every team should be that lucky. As for the 5 freshman........they PLAY 5 freshman at various points of the game and every team should be that lucky as well because they do a good job. To imply that is their team is not really fair to the juniors and seniors who are the backbone of this team. I know you are just repeating what you saw but just wanted to clear that up. Refs are refs and from my experience this year some shouldn't be but that's another story. The TCA fans were more of an issue here I'm sure. Would like to hear the inside story on the so called "deal" though, I'm sure would be entertaining to have explained
  9. Reitzfan, I've always enjoyed listening to your broadcast. Even though I hail from the enemy compound @ USJ, these kids have played against each other since kindergarten and I try to keep up with them all. You're aware of the technical problems tonight aren't you?
  10. Just out of curiosity, is the ref in question a balding Italian guy? If it is, there needs to be an investigation. If not, then I should have stayed out of this and not brought it up. Some will know of what I speak.....
  11. I give the BTW coach credit on this one, but at the same time you gotta give Northcutt credit as well. He probably knew they couldn't match up and sat in the zone and gave his team a chance at the end i would have probably mixed a foul or two in somewhere because it seemed like a lot of time was wasted trying to put BTW on the line? This one still could have gone either way from what I heard? I wasn't there so maybe GCP can shed some light if he went? Who is BTW's coach? I thought I heard something about him playing at Memphis during the broadcast? I will tip my hat to him on this one, that's a tough place to play with a good fan base and it sounded like he stood his ground
  12. BTW wins 46-42. Second half score was 8-8. Sounded like BTW held the ball for last 4 of third and first 4 of fourth with a TCA shot mixed in at the beginning of fourth. Guess it worked, seemed to take a long time for TCA to get BTW in the bonus when they finally came out of zone. Broadcast was real "skippy" so I might have missed something. Congrats to TCA for a good showing
  13. Well said on just about every point. Some things you can't teach and that's what makes teams like TCA dangerous to just about anybody, especially at home with a great fan base. Good luck to the Lions rest of the way!
  14. I couldn't agree with you more, Gman. It's a shame. Two heart breakers in 2 years for us but when it's all said and done, I wouldn't trade these last 2 years for anything. I've never been more proud of a bunch of kids in all my life and like I said last year, these Seniors will not know just how proud you make us Dad's until you have a kid of your own. That being said, I will admit that after our loss, I didn't have the stomach to set foot in that gym so I did not see the Final games of the Region Tournament. As for our game versus Harding, it was a great match-up just like we had expected. I wish I could get on here and say the ref's blew it, but all in all, it's was pretty well officiated. A few traveling calls I didn't agree with but sometimes when it looks odd, that's the call you get whether it actually was or not. The Double Technical seemed unnecessary at the time yet in the end, both kids fouled out prior to the end of the game. Would like to have seen both of them get to finish but I'm not sure of what happened...looked like football rivals just talking to each other. All in all, they let the kids decide the game. Still don't understand two opportunities to win the game in the last second and NEVER called a timeout to set up anything. That's a problem that will haunt me for a long time. After a big 5 second call at the end of regulation, 4 seconds left and nothing set up or anything? After the big 3 in OT, we had all the time in the world to call a TO and set something up...nothing. Guess we were saving them for next year : ) Harding is a good team with a will to win. I think they proved they were the hottest team going in yet a simple coin toss thru them our way and in hind site....I HATE coin tosses! In the Semi-finals, I think Harding and Lausanne would split if they played 10 times in a row. Lausanne won this one and I was not surprised that guard heavy St. Georges beat ECS as I think they were weaker of the 3 from that side of the Region with basically no guard play and a couple of good but young bigs. The final swung on the hot shooting of the Payne kid and Lausanne took it all. I think match-ups were the key in the sub-state. You could probably throw all of these teams in a hat and draw them out again and come up with different winners. I personally was not surprised by any of the outcomes. Harding was hot and had already proved they could play with FRA, St. Georges relies solely on their guard play and from hearing everyone talk, USN has a trio of good ones. The fact that ECS played and almost beat DCA leaves me a little puzzled...I did not expect them to be able to. As for me, I gotta pull for Harding! Yet not for the reasons someone would expect me to or not. Not because they beat us, not because they are from the West but for this simple reason. I spoke to the kid after the game who came off the bench against us (Moorman, I think) and became and instant hero. Seemed like a good kid and was very respectful. So my reason is nothing more than that. I regularly try to catch kids on opposing teams and congratulate them if need be. So often you get the "Yea...Aight" response and human nature is to immediately become a "non-fan". I may be wrong, yet that pretty much the only reason I've got. Good luck to all teams and once again to the 2012 USJ Bruins, thanks for a great year!!
  15. 48 points in the third quarter, 6 points a minute. That's a shot every 20 seconds, assuming they don't miss and aren't jacking 3's. Assuming you aren't pressing and the amount of time it takes for the other team to bring the ball up, that doesn't leave a lot of time.
  16. I'm pretty sure it was understood that the topic "flopping" that there was not contact? No one to my knowledge implied that it was a judgement call as to whether or not there was contact. The judgement call is whether or not the theatrics warranted a Tech or not. So I think the rule is pretty clear to people given the posts that I read. People were just expressing there opinions as to why it was and you cleared that up. Your last paragraph however didn't make much sense to me unless this very topic is a regular occurrence to yourself. Please accept our apologies, we will try to run all of our opinions past you first next time.
  17. Same way a Technical also counts as a personal foul. Maybe create a new category, throw a flag or better yet just laugh at him and move on. I just don't see all technical fouls being considered in the same category. If you are arguing a call, cussing, throwing punches etc., and you do that twice in one game, you probably deserve to sit out a few. But leaving "judgement" as the deciding factor on some of them is a vendetta waiting to happen. I'm not knocking the officiating these days but I'm sure everyone here has questioned the motives during one game or another this year.
  18. This is a tricky rule, yet with all judgement calls, it's probably one they should revisit. Flopping to try and draw the call, you pretty much just took yourself out of the play cause you are now laying on the ground as your man proceeds by. If you are gonna stop play to call a T, just call a foul if the guy flops in the way or disrupts the play in any way. If you didn't get fooled by the flop, I don't see the harm. This along with "hanging on the rim" are two calls that are strictly based on judgement and with the caliber of officiating nowadays, you've just given someone the tools to not only turn the game, yet the next two as well. 2T's=ejection=2game suspension. Just sayin.
