  1. She is going to an elementary school. I wish the director of schools would make all of these changes before athletic decisions are made. Now the principle that hired the new coach will not even be there anymore and who knows the athletic director/vice-principal may be promoted to principal, so the two people that hired the new coach may not even be at there same postions anymore. That is not fair to the school or the new coach. He may be forced to work with an entirely new administration. It is not the princpal or the AD's fault they did not know they were going to be moved to a new postion, but the director of schools should have chose these personel decisions before the hire was made, when things like this happen everything is forced to step back and that is not good for the program
  2. LA and Upperman both lose alot of seniors and talented players, but they will still be very competitive I am sure. York will have a new coach again, so they will be going thru a transition period nexy season, Smith Co. was a very scappy team last year, and I am sure they will be again this year. Dekalb and Cannon both lost some outstanding shooters (Stuluka-CC, and Miller-DC), but other than that they return alot of there teams. They are both well-coached and I expect they will be very competitive next year.
  3. That was the whole problem before he was hired Cannon Co was afraid that because of his record we were getting what we have always had. Now that he is here he will have support. I meant the administration, not just the coaches have to be totally committed to selling and promoting the program. I hope Coach Schrenk takes Cannon Co. to the level Smith Co. is, I was just trying to make the point people were just concerned about his record, not that we were not willing to listen to new ideas, which do not get me wrong we could improve on.
  4. You are correct in saying that, we should be willing to be open to new ideas, I think the big concern everyone has is Coach Schrenk's record being what it is. In my opinion athletics at CCHS need to form a new identity and set standards and policies that promote a winning culture, and they have to be totally sold to promoting and selling the programs at Cannon Co. I think there is a lot of potential at Cannon Co. but as you said, we have to be willing to listen to other people and be open to changes.
  5. Well-stated, Dekalb Co. is is a tough situation because they are having to change the entire culture of Women's basketball there. I thought Shockley did a good job there and he created a base to build from. Good luck in your hiring process
  6. Cannon Co. is a much better position than either of those jobs. Things are going in the right direction here
  7. It was not your fault on the last coach its just that he and the administration never got on the same page. I like you hope that Cannon Co. realizes the ingredients that make a succesful program and I hope that Coach Schrenk fits in to the plan. I hope his outstanding interview skills will translate to wins on the field because that is what its all about. I am afraid sometimes people worry to much about making everyone happy and trying to make every parent happy. You know as a coach that is impossible, winning has to be the main goal of any program and finding the right people is the start of the process and I hope Cannon Co. has the right guy.
  8. He will get a chance, I do think however everyone wants to see results quick, because of his bad record. He will need time however, because of the total change of the offense and also just because it is yet another year and another new coach. Warrior, you were here and you set a new standard for Cannon Co. football and you know more than anyone how hard it was to change the culture of the program here. Im curious to know what your opinion is on the hire and what if any effect his record will have on his credibility with the players? Also hope things are going well with you and your team in the valley.
  9. I have been meaning to do that for a long time. Im glad people like you and your mom start things like that. Helping the Jr. Lions is part of the culture change I speak of so often. I hope we are able to get that grant,it would be a huge asset to the program
  10. You will have to ask coach Rigsby about that. Try-outs for varsity will be in May and they are open to everyone. I hope it all goes well for football, I hope everyone in Clarksville is wrong about Coach Schrenk, they do not seem upset that he is gone at all. He seems enthusiastic and ready to work so I hope he will bring sucess here.
  11. Bees. Im responding to your other post on this forum. Practice went fine it is hard to do much with 6 players but the others who weren't there had other athletic commitments to CCHS. They work very hard and I have never seen a group that plays so well together they all just flow, but anyway its a football topic. I am curious did coach Schrenk mention anything about his record to the players or did anyone ask about it? I hope he does well here at Cannon Co. and I hope he does prove that he has more than just good interview skills, because Coach Bartsch had good interview skills and we all know how he and the administration did not see eye to eye so a coach must earn credibility on the field and not in the office. Good luck to you guys this year and keep posting.
  12. Well stated. Good Luck to the new coach it sounds like he made a good impression with the players tonite and I am sure the community will give more support than he had at Norhtwest. The administration believes in this coach and we all must trust their decision and now it is Coach Schrenk's turn to prove himself as a coach in the win-loss column, not just interviews. He will need more than one year to make positive things happen because it is a totally new system. I hope the administration got this one right for everyone invoved. Good luck to Coach Schrenk you have my support and go prove to us all that you were the right candidate for the job
  13. As I said Trenches has done a great job keeping the program, going and I believe he and I desire the same thing, but we simply had a difference of opinion. As far as Coach Schrenk im glad he is nice and I hope he does great things here, every coach wants to win but they have to prove it not just talk it. A very well-thought of teacher and and the best person you will ever meet was let go so Schrenk could come here so I hope the administration believes this guy is the absolute best candidate for the job. I am behing coach Schrenk , but due to his record I feel he must prove that he has more than just good interview skills. A coach must prove himself on the field not the meeting room. You are correct to have a winning culture you must have stability and support of your coaches, but a to even start the process of having a winning culture you must make the right hires and for the program's sake I hope the administration got this one right. That being said I wish the coach nothing but the best and I will be supporting the program in any function I can.
  14. Bees, there are sometimes when you cant stick up for people all the time. I appreciate all Trenches does and is doing, but he does not need to accuse me of bashing Coach Shrenk's character becasue I did not do that and I will not ever do that. I simply asked the question with Coach Shrenk's record what made the top choice for the job that is all I want to know. I support every sport at CCHS and I have plans and goals for the athletics there and I would love to share them with the administration because theats where the athletics start is the administration, but I will share them with anyone who will listen. I will be at the games on Friday night's and continue to serve CCHS athletics, but some of the things we do here have to change and that does not mean firing people or threatening people that is not how change is brought. It means developing a winning culture and a set of core values that the athletic department sets its standards to and then only hire people who meet and embrace those core values and who want to continue building a winning culture.
  15. Cchssupporter I appreciate your support of me and also people like your self that wish to bring about change in the right way. I will say it again I never have and never will bash anyone's character on here. I simply as you said called his record into question, because I know for a fact there were other applicants from major winning programs. He is our coach now and just like you I will be there every Friday night and I will try and help support this new coach anyway possible. I am simply saying he must have evidently had an outstanding interview, so now he must prove himself in the win-loss column. Next year should be his transition year new offense, new coach, there will be struggles, but after that we should see positive signs that the program is going in the right direction. As for the assistant coach for basketball you mentioned, he will land on his feet and be successful, he is one of the best people you will ever have the pleasure to meet and I wish hm as does everyone nothing nut success, and I want to personally thank him for all of the time he put in to all of our athletic programs. I like what you said about how football does have the support and interest and I just want people to know boys and girls basketball is going in the right direction and there are tons of good things happening that people do not realize. Anyway I also want to mention that I appreciate the work "trenches" does and I hope he appreciates the work i am trying to do to improve all of the athletic programs at CCHS. Coach Shrenk good luck and I will support you and I hope you prove to us all why the administration chose you.
  16. I do agree that the hire was done to secretly and it is hard to get excited about a coach with a 3-17 record. Like what you said about no buy in from the people who pay to support the athletic program. We must try and be positive I think becaus negativity does spread and we definetly do not need that anymore. You do have your right to say what you believe and you have valid points, but we should be supportive of the new coach because regardless of what happens he was the choice of the administration and we must put our trust in there hire
  17. Pspy, you and I agree on most but I do not think we should threaten people's jobs. If this hire does not work out we can all sit back and say "I told you so", but we should all hope it does work out and I know you do. I wish people would stop comparing every coach to Chad Barger or even Andrew Bartsch. They are both gone. Coach Barger did a ton of great things here and he set a new standard which is great, but we should not settle for where coach Barger got us, we should aim higher. I would have prefered a coach with a much stronger resume', but i had no say so in the matter so I will support the new coach and hope that the principle and AD made the right choice. The program is behind and we must work to change that, but we can do it other ways than threatning jobs of people. Look forward to much more discussion on this topic lets all keep posting
  18. I wish Coach Schrenk good luck as well. He is the coach now and it does not matter who any of us thought the best candidate was, we have to put all of that aside and support the new coach. I think he does have to prove himself though, he does not come here with a good record Cannon Co. was 4-6 last year, he has 3 wins in 2 years so I think he needs to demonstate to the fans what made him the best candidate the administration could hire. I think we all myself included have to get on the same page and build the vision we all have for Cannon Co. athletics
  19. Trenches, I think you have me all wrong. I am a huge supporter of all the athletics at Cannon Co. I am always striving to make them better. I appreciate the work you have been doing with the players and making sure the program stays somewhat organized. You have done a great job. As far as the one-on-one meeting I would love that I always want to share my plans and goals for Cannon Co. athletics with anyone will listen. I have never insulted nor will I ever insult Coach Shrenk's chatacter or anything of the sort. I was just curious as to what made him the most qualified and best candidate for the job. A coach has to have many qualities such as public relations, fundraising, management skills, etc.. but the most important thaing is to win games and produce quality people from your program. Judging by Coach Shrenk's record he was not able to win very many games. I understand he may have been at a bad situation, but lets be honest is the situation much better here? I want to see a quality built program here and I feel it is going in the right direction. It was just my opinion that Cannon Co. needed a coach from a winning program. When I tell my teachers at MTSU that I want to work for Cannon Co athletics they tell me to get as far away as I can from here and work at the college or professional level, but I tell them Cannon Co. athletics is where my passion is and it literally is my dream to build and improve Cannon Co. athletics to a level that they have never been. I will fully support Coach Shrenk if and when he is officailly hired and I hope he takes this program to a new level of success, I was just trying to make sense of why with the record he has he was the best man for the job. I am very glad the lift-a-thon went well and I would have been there, but I was serving Cannon Co. athletics on another way. Anyway I just want you to know I am a supporter of Cannon Co. and I have a passion to see the athletics grow and achieve levels they have never been before. So you and I want the same thing so lets get onthe same page and build the programs the right way
  20. I just wish someone would give one good reason that the Northwest guy is qualified to get the job. There were more people interested than I would have thought and they were from some big name programs. Just because they were from a big program does not mean big program results but, I would rather take a chance on an assitant instead of a head coach with a bad record. I hope everything works out for every party involved, but this just does not make any sense at all to me. Winners have habits, and one of those habits is to associate your program with winners and people who think like winners and this coach from Northwest seems like the opposite of a winner
  21. I hope thats wrong pspy, but I would say its true. If the Northwest coach is the guy I do not see how this brings any kind any kind of culture change to Cannon Co. No one can argue that Cannon Co. still has to shake that loser stigma and earn respect in the region and by hiring a coach that has a 3-17 record, peope will say that is the same Cannon Co. as always and nothing is changing. I hope I am wrong, but what kind of coaching credibility does this guy bring? if anyone knows more info about him please share it because I can't find anything positive. I want to try and make sense of it if this is who they are going to hire, but I cant do it. Pspy what are your thoughts about it?
  22. No coach was named at the lift-a-thon pspy. From what I am hearing from several people is that the Northwest coach is the leading candidate and the administration wants him. I just would not be able to make any sense of that hire. I do not believe that coach would benefeit from Cannon Co. and I do not think Cannon Co. can benefeit from him. There are a lot of question marks it seems to me on why he would want to move down to 3A or why we would consider a coach that has a 3-17 record at Northwest. I believe that Cannon Co. would be better off taking a chance on an assistant than an unsucessful head coach. People will argue and say he didn't have assistants at Northwest or he didn't have support, Cannon Co. can not offer that either. Fans pack the stadium every home game and that is great especially since up until recently Cannon Co. was not even competitive, but we tend to have a problem with letting the coach run the team and that is a problem everytime. We need to change the ay things are done and it can happen, but everyone has to get on the same page. I trust the administration to make the right hire, they did not want to do search committee so we have to trust and hope they make the right decision
  23. Your correct there is more to it than that. There is the ability to fundraise, public relations skills, being able to become the face of your program. Above all of that though is the ability to win games. Winning heals all problems and you judge whether or not someone can win games by there record. As far as the candidate from Alcoa that seems to be the rumor around Cannon Co. but it may very well just be a rumor. I would rather take a chance on an assistant from a power program than a head coach that has a terrible record
  24. I haven not seen Northwest play I am just basing everything of his record. Cannon Co. just fired there coach who went 4-6, they wanted to go in a different direction and thats fine, but if you have people that are assistants from Alcoa and Riverdale applying it just does not seem logical to hire the Northwest coach. I will take your word that he did not have the athletes, but he will not have them at Cannon Co. either. And again we will not be able to give him enough faculty assistants, and our facilities are going in the right direction, but they are lacking compared to most schools. It just seems like the wrong fit to me, but I am not the principle or the AD so we just have to trust that they have done there homework on the finalists and hope they make the right decsion
