  1. I know a coach from Clarksville Northwest has applied, thats no prize they were 2-8 last year, but also an assistant from Riverdale has apllied and that has me interested, that would be a person from a program that wins championships and just to be apart of the type of program Riverdale is says something. Even if there were qualified people on staff, it would not make sense to hire them, we just fired the head coach because we didn't like the way he did things, so why would we hire someone who shares his same philosophy's? Dekalb has nothing to fear, you guys have evolved into today's style game and it paid off huge for you guys. Also you guys stuck with the same coach for more than one season even if people complained, not trying to complain about Cannon Co. firing there coach, just saying stability usually pays off.
  2. There is a time when that smash-mouth style is needed, but it is fading away. The spread is replacing the i-formation and wing-t type of offenses. When ran properly the spread is very hard to stop, just look at what Dekalb did to everyone last year not just Cannon Co. Has coach Daniels even applied? It seems everyone is sold on him and its like we shouldn't even look at any other candidates. He should be considered, but I know there have been other people apply with more experience and some that have worked at premire programs in the mid-state. As far is him getting O-coordinator of the year, thats good, but it is well-known that Coach Barger was a controlling head coach. I am not knocking coach Barger he did a great job here and is doing a great job at Sequatchie, this was his first job and I'm sure he has learned to delegate responsibility better, but with him being that controlling it worries me that Daniel might not be ready to run the whole show.
  3. Well, I wouldn't be much help as an assistant football coach, but I would like be more involved with the administration, I have a lot of ideas not just about football, but all athletics here. There are many ways to boost attendence and for other sports to make money besides football, also I have some ideas on how to improve some of the facilities here. I know its off the subject, but I just want to say that basketball both girls and boys is heading in the right direction. The girls had a great season and the boys were the most competitive and had the most wins they have had in many seasons, more importantly there were more than 50 kids trying out for AAU in 5th-8th grade, that means the interest is up and people know that basketball is on the rise. The team worked there butts off and that hopefully will pay off in the near future. I hope after the new coach is hired there is just as much excitement for football.
  4. Yes, thats very true that is what I was trying to get across, for us to compete at some point we would have to change our offense. More on my end of things we have many facilities that need to be improved and not just in football, but thats another discussion. If your knowledgable about the X's and O's you should perhaps talk to the new coach whenever he is hired and get a staff postion. I can tell by your posts you love Cannon Co. athletics and you want to see us change and upgrade our programs. I'm glad there are people like you who want to see change and you seem like someone willing to work and not just talk about it, but actually do it.
  5. I hope to try and make it by there, I wish we could evolve to some version of the spread I know we probably can't do the pass happy version Dekalb's runs and runs very well I might add, but perhaps a more run oriented version. It would take time to learn I'm sure but I would like to see it here at Cannon Co. Anyway I do not know very much about the X's and O's of football, my expertise is in administration, I'm just expressing my opinion on the way the game is evolving even on the high school level.
  6. I have seen many championship games in football and mostly basketball and I have felt that before when I played sports, never on a championship level, but still that little confidence that you can play with and beat anybody thats a confidence winners have.
  7. I knew the lift-a-thon was set I believe its April 4th, I didn't know the goal though. I hope that it is reached. I hope whenever the new coach is hired he hits the halls and elementary schools and finds players that want to become successful and become apart of what I hope is a new culture here at Cannon Co. I've seen the way it feels to win and be on top of the world and the confidence that goes along with that and thats what we need in my opinion someone who can teach that mantality. I know we do not have the perfect personel for some versions of it, but tell me your opinion on if Cannon Co. started running the spread. Its the future of every level of football, and when run properly it is hard to stop and teams can lite up the scoreboard.
  8. You are allowed a certain amount of non-faculty assistants, not exact on the number though. Its hard to get new faculty assistants, because as of now we have no open postions except for history. Whomever the new coach is might be in a bad situation , because he may want an entirely new staff, and the only ones we have left are from Bartsch's staff, not bashing them im just saying the new coach may have a new philosophy and want people who share it. The last I have heard 10 people had submitted an application, and as another post said one was one from an assistant at Riverdale, I would like to know more about that, Riverdale has the type of winning culture and attitude we need here at Cannon Co. If that coach could bring that attitude here and teach our players and everyone how winners do things and the swagger winners can have that would be great.
  9. You and I are in total agreement, thats exactly what I've been saying. I really liker hoe you said play as a family. I think we have to get a coach who can unite the team and community. It is sad, but at the high school level the head coach is basically responsible for everything, including number 1 coaching, but also fundraising, getting out in the community, which they should do anyway, but the point is its hard to find a coach with all of those qualities. I just believe a qualified assistant from a good school knows how to do those things
  10. I think Upperman and Livingston is like Cannon and Dekalb are. They always play an extra notch harder against each other. As far as our future it looks bright, we are very young as you said mostly sophmores, so yes if our girls keep working hard and progress we should be able to make it to the sub-state, keep in mind though we play in a super tough district and even though Upperman and Livingston are losing alot of players they always reload and are competitive. What kind of football coach do you think we should look for?
  11. I don't disagree with that if he is ready, and if he has learned good leadership skills. The reason I keep being so big on getting someone from a powerhouse program is because that way we would they have learned from from a winner and could bring the attitude and swagger of winners to our program. Like I said before I do not know the type of program, Daniels has worked with in Georgia, if he has worked under a successful coach and has learned how to command the respect of players then he would be a very likely candidate. So if he is interested he should be considered seriously and fairly just like everyone else. Georgia football is on a different talent level than Tennessee, just look at all of the recruits that came from there this year. Coach Daniels may enjoy that atmosphere and want to stay there only time will tell.
  12. I don't disagree about it being hard, we are like most schools our size we can not offer a large coaching supplement, it does hurt us that we have a reputation for having a lot of coaching turnover, that being said there is someone out there who has been an assistant coach at a good program that knows how to win and is ready to take an opportutunity as ahead coach, please do not get me wrong on Matt Daniel if he is interested, he should be considered fairly and perhaps do the interview process. In my opinion we need someone who has worked with winning coaches and who will bring those winning ways to us thru leadership and lots of hard work, but also have the ability to work with people and rally support in the community.
  13. As of right now it would have to be filled by a history certified teacher, because its the only open postion. I don't disagree that he would have a passion for it, but is he ready to take on the postion of head coach, especially at a place like Cannon Co. that is trying to build a new culture and image. I doubt we will have many applicants who are currently head coaches, or if we do they are probably coaches who have been fired or who have a losing record. So in my opinion we should look for an assistant who has been at a traditionally powerful program (Riverdale, Hillsboro, Smyrna, etc..)We should get someone who knows winning and is used to winning and will teach our program how winners think and how winners act. Also I think just as important as X's and O's in Cannon Co. is the ability to communicate with people and get involved in Jr. high football and really get the word out and promote your program. People here support the football team, and I think the fans will want somone who is a winner and an outstanding leader to change the losing and unstable culture here.
  14. Yes I was, girls had tough game. Uppermasn has only had one loss all season. The girls had a great season though they are so young and now have back-to-back 20 win seasons. Coach Dodgen is doing a great job with them
  15. Pspy, I do not know who "cchssupporter", but I do agree with alot of what he says on these boards, he supports the athletics here at CCHS as do you and that is what we need desperately right now. I have to disagree with th eShelbyville assistant you are refering to he is even more inexperienced than Matt Daniel. Would he be a good assistant to bring on if the new coach wants him, yes but just not the right fit at this time. I would really like to be on the committee if they have one, I don't know if that will happen, but I feel I have knowledge that could be benificial to the administration and most important I am no parent or coach so my opinion would not be biased, it would just be for the good of the program, and that is what I want more than anything to help find someone who is the right fit and someone who wants to stabilize the program here and hopefully everyone who supports the athletics could get on the same page and move the program in a positive direction, instead of disagreeing with every decision the coach makes and setting the program back.
  16. I agree with you cchssupporter. We all need to be more productive with our support myself included. We may all agree that some changes need to be made in Cannon Co. athletics, but the way alot of people try to make change happen is what the problem is. Like you said its not 30 years ago anymore, and like I mentioned in an earlier post to warrior, maybe the problem is we think that because we are Cannon Co. we have to do things the old way and different because we are a small town, but we can change that image with the right people on board, and that doesn't mean change coaches every year, but getting everyone on the same page to not just talk about doing things, but actully do things to help the athletics here, that could mean voluntering time, donating money, or just attending games, supporting the programs is what it takes to grow and improve
  17. Pspy, noticed you mentioned everything but boys basketball, are you just not a fan of boys basketball? Anyway just curious. You and I share the passion to bring Cannon Co to the next level and excel
  18. Thank you for the support pspy. I believe warrior took me the wrong way and that is ok I would consider him a friend and good coach, I am not saying I have every answer, but I do feel I have a very good knowledge of what it takes to have a winning and well-ran program. I believe we settle for the way things have always been done here at Cannon Co. As I said earlier I know we wont have some of the things that other big programs have, but we can do a lot better than what we have as far as facilities and sponsorships, etc.. I am learning from some of the best sport management teachers at MTSU, on what it takes to make a high school school program succesful yes even small rural ones. And as I said earlier a lot of my ideas did not come from a textbook as warrior suggested. My passion and enthusaim is Cannon Co. its where I want to help in any capacity, I have a vision of what the athletics could be here, and thats what it takes you have to have direction and know where you wanna go and than plan out how to get there. I never want to stop being educated in how to better run an athletic program, and I want to help bring Cannon Co. to the next level.
  19. I am still in college, you are correct, and trust me I know how things work in Cannon Co. I have been apart of it just not in football, I am far from to educated in fact I always want to learn more, and more ways to help build the athletic program here at CCHS. Maybe the problem is we accept that we have to do things different in a small-town, but the ingriedents to a successful program are the same everywhere. I am not an idiot I know there are some things that can't be done at Cannon Co. that are done at Riverdale, Oakland, etc.. but that does not mean that we can't strive to be the absolute best athleic program we can be. I would love to bring my enthusiasm and passion to the adminstration and I hope to do just that. By the way not all of the ideas I have come from a textbook, but perhaps it would help if more textbook knowledge was used here. I think most people want the best for Cannon Co athletics, its just the methoed we use of getting to to that next level and becoming a good overall athletic program, that needs to change.
  20. No offense taken warrior, I am no football guy and I dont claim to be, but what I am is a sports administration guy. I know what it takes to build a program, promote a program, grow a program, and how to find the right people to fit in to the program. I like coach Daniel, but I do believe it is hard to coach in your hometown, it can be done don't get me wrong, but it has its own unique set of challenges. I agree with you about probably not going to get an established coach, or at least one with a winning record, but you have to hope to get an esatblished assistant, who has worked under a great program and has a winner's attitude. I don't know about the team Daniel has worked with in Georgia, but you know better than most the time it takes to run a program especilly one like Cannon Co, because you are constantly trying to change the culture and thats why I say get an assistant from a power program who won't accept a loser attitude, or perhaps a successful head coach of 1A or 2A school looking to move up. You said coach Daniel was a hard worker and dedicated, and I agree, but so was coach Bartsch and now he is gone. Don't get me wrong if Daniel is interested he would be someone to interview, but perhaps not the right fit.
  21. It would make no sense to hire someone off of Bartsch's staff. We just fired him because we wanted to go in a "different direction", so why would we hire someone who shares his same philosophy? Coach Daniel is in my opinion just not quiet ready to be a head coach yet, and its hard to coach in your hometown, because you are either loved or hated, but Coach Daniel is great guy and a rising assistant coach. I have said it already, it is absolutly critical that we not rush this hire the program is in a state of limbo right now, half the palyers are probably happy and the other half mad about coach Bartsch being fired. So we need someone who can unite and someone who has outstanding leadership skills. I know "cchssupporter" agrees with me that we need someone to stabilize the program and lead in a new era and start fresh.
  22. I agree with you. I love Cannon Co. athletics and that is where my passion is. Its what I'm going to school for. I want to see so much improved and I just hate to see so much potential not being improved. I think the athletic director needs an expanded role. He was not even aware that coach Bartsch was being removed. The athletic director should be the man who recomends who gets hired and fired and his input should be asked for before a coach is fired. Im gald we agree on the stability issue, just look coach Dodgen has been here 4 years and now we have back-back 20 win seasons and we are in the region semi-finals. Coach Rigsby has brought a passion and drive to boys basketball that hasn't been there since coach Bush left. Now we need a football coach that will lead with passion and lead the program in a new era. To respond to "Gridiron 88" who said he wants the defensive coordinator to be considered for the next head coach. That would be very wrong since we just fired Bartsch because the administration did not like his style, it would make no since to hire somone off his staff, because they should share his same philosophy. We need to take our time and make sure we get it right this time because the program will go back to where it was if the wrong person is hired. I also just want to say I think it is sad when a few parents can call and complain and thats all it takes for a coach to be fired. I believe firmly that it is the administration's job to always defend its coaches and I know the athletic director was supportive of Bartsch, but evidently a different direction was wanted and now we must all support whomever the new coach will be.
  23. Lets all focus back on Cannon Co. athletics. Now the main goal is to find a new coach who will lead Cannon Co. in a new era and change the bad image it has right now. I believe there is still a lot of potential with Cannon Co. football and all athletics, but everyone has got to get on the same page and stop playing the blame game. If we would all work to improve our program as much as we bash it, we would be in a much better postion. There are many improvments that need to be made and lots of work to be done, but if everyone will get together and work for the good of the program, than this will be a place a prospective coah wants to come.
