You said it right. We cant gauge our talent due to the talent pool. I dont know were Art get we are better than I dont know when cause last year we had a stonger better team and a much stronger big 8 to play in. Very boring year to watch DB football but this will be a descent game. DB should take it but it will come down to turnovers and heart. Tribe by 14.

Yikes!!!! An overall losing record for the big 8 this year. No matter what after this week the big 8 will have the exact same amount of wins as losses.

 

As of right now the big 8 stands at 15-23 on the year, with 2 games left this week.

 

No big 8 5A team has a winning record unless South beats Betsy.

 

It's to early to start thinking about next year isn't it.

Any chance I'll get to see a 2nd round playoff game in the area? IMAC(?) 5A is doing better record wise this year so round 2 will be traveling there, correct?

overall the big 8 is a week conference this year. Last year almost every team in the big 8 had a stronger team. To me this year has been pretty boring except for the DB vs Bears and South and TN High (only cause of the buzzer beater score). I hope the other conference teams are down to so the big 8 wont get killed come playoff time.

Haven't seen DB but they are heavily favored. I saw Jeff Co at the Jamboree and they looked to have lost alot from last year.Science Hill has lots of talent and the played the defending state champs well. Volunteer has so many internal problems that no matter how much talent they have they are going to have a hard time winning. Daniel Boone will have a tough time defending the passing attack of Cherokee unless they have a very experienced secondary.

DB- Cooke will be just fine, he's talented. #8 should show out and Foreman may show up and may not.

Cherokee- I'm with Cherokee on this one. The Ryans kid at QB is the best in East TN if not the State, in my opinion (they better market him, he's that good). They have the House kid thats talented to, running the ball.

TH - I hope you pound the Patriots in the ground.

SH - The Hill will be tough this year.

Come on now. Sure, having the financial security did'nt hurt but this kid has been watched for the last couple years. He's been to all the combines and visits and the college coaches know what to look for. Sure, the other big football states are loaded with kids his size and even bigger, but he brings something that is lacking these days. Honesty, integrity, common sence and respect. Qualities that coaches are really starting to look at especially if they are going to spend all the time and money investing in these kids. He's a very attractive player when you start looking at it from this point of view. Best of luck to TY and Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!

The key thing you said is "He's been to all the combines". He has marketed himself properly (his parents have) It's not a bad thing, it's a good thing and it's something that alot of parents and kids dont do or cant do. No not all good athletes have money but, they pull together and carpool these kids ect. The combines are usually around 40.00. The camps are a different thing. They normally cost 100.00 plus. Their is millions of athetes and if you dont put yourself out there to be seen, then they will not see you 90 percent of the time! ok and as far as your other comment about what Ty brings to the table, I'm just gonna leave that question alone all together. I wish him only the best but like I said I will keep things real. Also just because you have area's to work on and maybe lacking in is not a bad thing. It's life and something you have to work on. Some people just don't know how to take constructive critisism or difference of opinion.

Wake Forest coaches said Ty was the best lineman they had seen for two years.I can't even imagine what level he would play at if he {as you say} lacks in certain areas and got those areas corrected.They might have to develope a league above the NFL for such beast.TWO D1 offers and TWO more that might have or may come along before the season even starts.I don't care if his daddy went over there and done a song and dance for Wakes coaches,you don't get that kind of attention unless your one of the best.Do you think every kid that gets a D1 school has lots of money ? Let me answer.NO. I told you he was the best we had at DB for the last few years.Two D1 coaches have told you now.

Well you can over dramatize it all you want but facts are facts. Many over rated players get scholarships and then end up right back at home. I'm not saying this will happen to Ty and I hope it don't but people like you are the ones that make him look like something he's not. He is good but not great by no means. Maybe at the college level he can climb up and set on that pedistal that you all have waiting on him. The arrogance that's been displayed is unreal.

Congrads to Ty !.I guess this should set the record straight for the naysayers and all those posters who said he lacked this or that.He never lacked anything last year and has not played a down this year.In other words,the people that know the game and matter most,also knew he had the right stuff..He is a great kid and deserved someone to have his back on the coach.Now lets see a few more of our very talented players get a free ride.D1 is special,but we have a lot of kids that I think should get some looks at some level,maybe D1 as well .It really doesn't matter as long as they get an education and chance to play on.One of my favorite seniors has strength and speed and is a great young man,Hunter Holt.If he wants to play on,I know he will do very good as well.

It's called "Marketing" If you have some talent then you have to market yourself in which Ty parents had the money to do for him, some of the others dont or just dont know to do it and thats why they dont get the looks. I'm with G.Clark on this, I would rather have a good practice. Funny thing, last year people laughed at the DB player and said they had their practice uniforms on and looked like they had just came out of practice because their uniforms were dirty. The thing is, they had just came out of practice. They practiced for about 2 hours and loaded up.

No, you are the most embarrassing thing that came from Kpt. Back when football was dropped from ETSU, there wasn't enough talent in this area (as it is today) to recruit from, including the mighty db. I don't care if it is basketball or marbles, you db fans would get on here and crow till the cows come home if you ever won a state championship. Since when do colleges only recruit from their area? It's great to get all you can from the back yard but thats not how it works and your statement sounds ridiculous To say that was one reason why football failed at ETSU is crazy just like you saying we don't produce talent in the area. Talked to Burton and I ask him how things was looking and he said we look pretty good except the O Line but the development from now till the season will be crucial for that group. He said Ty and Justin will do fine but some major work has to be done. He said our freshman group last year was one of the biggest in size we've had in a long time but also one of the worst. He wished we could have our O line from last year with this group and we would be in good shape. Thats just conversation talk and he also said Hall broke the bench press record (even though he is gone)and that Barrret is pushing them hard in the weight room. The new coach from GC is there. Not much, but a little info.

Last thing,We dont need a team full of all stars.It would be nice.we need a few stars and some good and descend ones to help.Do you know how much better we would have been if all our O-Players could have rested until it was time to go back out,The same with the D-Players.Its like swimming,Ive heard alot of people tell this there on way,and heres mine.My oldest brother taught me to swim.He pushed me in the pool and said sink or swim.Samething as im sayin.Put some of these kids out there and say.PLAY BALL or get RUN OVER and MADE a FOOL of.You win ethier way.The ones that want to play will listen in practice and try harder cause he knows hes going to be in the spot light.The ones that dont will get made a FOOL of and my guess QUIT and walk away.And in that case we dont need them on the team anyway.I helped coach my JV team back home for 2 yrs as a VOL.And we never had a 2 way and nethier did the VARSITY team.As fans,parents,alumi we have a right to give some input.These are our kids and friends.BATMAN or any DB fan or WHOEVER tell me what u think?Do i sound dumb?Is this something that really can happen?Does it not make sense?Stop makin excuses,go recriut tell your kids to.even if there not playin.HOW STUPID IS IT TO HAVE A TEAM OF 80 OR SO AND ONLY PLAY 18 WITH ABUNCH OF THEM GOING 2 WAYS?

Just in case your not aware of this, Our JV team dresses out with the varsity to make the 70-80 players and most of the JV starters are our second team Varsity.

It's not been that long ago that we had 140 out for spring practice Carolina.We still only had so many star players and some very good players.The big boys are givin a shot to shine as are the backs.In a month or two they will be going at it to see who wants to play and who doesn't really want to work for it.If we have a standout player,the coaches will see him very quick.They will see who puts out in the drills and runs at the end as well as who is lazy.The thing about the three players you spoke of is not only that they were or are talented but they all give 100% before friday nights ever got here.If we have a player that hits harder then CS,or runs faster then SS,or is bigger and stronger then Tyh,then he will be playing if he lives in a ten million dollar home or in the poorest part of town......I think the TSSAA screwed up by taking us out of the big East with other schools our size.There is nothing wrong with going against the local teams that have good programs most every year,but we have no business playing some of the schools that we have to and it's not right or good for either of us.

I agree with you here BM. Rich or poor, they earn their positions. That is why we have guys going both ways, they want it and they are the ones getting it done in practice. Some kids are satisfied with just being part of the team, playing or not. Work ethic is the big factor here, Thats why we don't have 100 plus anymore. Practice is Hard and the coaches are tough and the kids choose the easiest road. It's not good, but it's the truth. This starts at Home people!

As far as the schedule, we should play some local teams. It keeps the flavor going but our schedule should not get weaker through out the season. It kill us come playoff time. We have the players most years, we just don't have the depth in schedule to keep us ready. We start off with a strong schedule and it declines so, when it comes to the playoffs we are not ready for the competition.

Maurice was also supose to go to Carson Newman but he didn't do his part of the work, maybe he will get it together. I heard that Steele mat not sign tomorrow due to paperwork but, he is definatley going. Also, Leeper committed with Brevard. Anyone know of others?

Cory Hall, Chris Sensabaugh, Sean Seabolt and Derrick Steele will be signing with Carson Newman Wednesday. Congrats to these guys and I wish them a wonderful future with the Eagles. I knew these guys were close and I guess this really shows it.

Any recruiting updates? Any word on visits, offers, etc for Sensabaugh, Hall, Seabolt, Steele, Cannon, Leeper, etc???????? No coach or player bashing please.

Devon Swafford at Dobyns-Bennett outstanding runningback and receiver. Also, Ty Hayworth tore up the Army All Star combine in San Antonio. He will be a five star recruit this coming year. Already receiving letters from Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee, Ohio State and Texas just to name a few.

Devaun Swafford will be explosive. Ty is a good player but I heard he didnt do well at all in the combine. I know he wasnt in the top ranks cause they were posted. I think he will get a good offer but I wouldnt say 5 stars by no means. Hunter Holt will do as much if not more and the other 2 will be Will Allen and Justin Long. Letters mean absolutley nothing.

Plus...Colobro will be the new Defensive Line coach at DB.

 

Plus... Kersey is gone, and not a minute to soon. That was a huge train wreck getting ready to happen. We dodged a bullet there.

I've heard that Cannon and Steele are heading to Carson Newman. As far as Sensabaugh, i've heard everything. First it was Clemson and then they withdrew the offer. A couple days ago i heard he had decided on Georgia Tech. Now, he's saying he will either go to North Carolina or walk on at Tennessee. Whatever he decides i hope for the best because whoever gets him is going to get a great football player. Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt be suprised if Carson Newman is over flowing with DB talent this year. I was told by one of the kids sister the other day that, CN was after them and that several of the boys liked the idea of staying together. The way she talked it was about 5 of them. I don't know how accurate she is but I'm sure she is not totaly wrong.

And how old is Colobro? And doesn't he have a serious heart condition? I'm not buying it. In all due respect, he is a wonderful coach. And maybe he is not finished. I think he could teach the local coaches a few things. But why come to East in the first place? And then leave a year later. Sounds cut and dried to me. Speaking of rumors...I heard CS was going to walk on at Knoxville. I truly wish the young man the best where ever he goes.

Don't think Coach Kersey is coming back so he maybe taking his place, if it's true. I heard that several of the DB team mates are trying to go to the same college, to stay together as a group.
