  1. Mom, some of those SM folks have issues.

Well I guess I took offense when I saw my girls being trashed by a couple of SM fans. They had the same team this year basically that we played last year. Boyd on the other hand lost 4 key players to graduation and still made it back to the State Championship match. I can't imagine the pressure that little 8th grader had on her shoulders setting in the state championship finals. I know the pressure that a setter goes through because my daughter was the starting setter last year on the Championship team. She played through the Region tournament through the state tournament with a sprained ankle. Boyd had a great run in many sports last year. Lady Bucs started it off by winning state in volleyball...Football Bucs were state runner up...Baseball Bucs were state runner up also..then it was topped off by the boys soccer team winning a state championship...Class of 2010 has some very great memories! Many of these kids are now playing college sports....Proud of all of them! Now go get 'em Friday night Bucs!

  2. Mam, I believe this is 2010 not 2009. This year, the Lady Eagles took 3 out of 4 against the Lady Bucs in Volleyball. We respect you but we still beat you.

Lady Eagles are the 2010 Volleyball State Champions

    GO EAGLES

Point being no one acted this way towards you guys last year when you failed to make it in to the championship match? And again, Boyd was very young and was not expected to even make it back to the Championship match. An 8th grader played in a key position on the floor...I would say that the Lady Bucs don't have to take a back seat to Signal...the last three years produced 2 State Runner Ups and a State Championship...just saying.

  3. They sure whupped Boyd's butt in Murfreesboro.:thumb::roflolk:

You know I don't remember anyone from Boyd talking this way last year when our girls kicked Signal Mountain's butt in volleyball. I don't have a daugther still on the team. She was one of the 4 seniors that graduated off of last year's State Championship team. Boyd played with a setter who was an 8th grader. For those of you who don't know the importance of a setter, the setter on the team is like a point guard on a basketball team. For Boyd to make it back to the Championship match with an 8th grade setter speaks volumes for what they accomplished this year. I might add that this was the 4th year in a row that Boyd made an appearance in the State Tournament. In 2008 we were the only Class A school in the field with Class AA teams and we were state runner up that year. That gave our girls the drive to make it back last year and they dominated many schools including Signal. The 2009 Lady Bucs State Champsionship team had wins over larger schools like Soddy Daisy and Red Bank during tournament last year too Mountain Troll....Rachel Harper, who is a senior this year, is probably one of the best volleyball players to come out of Chattanooga. She signed a scholarship with Carson Newman...show some respect.

  4. CPA was the best Single A team in the Double A tournament and Red Bank was the best Triple A in the Double A tournament.

I normally do not get involved in such debates, but this one I could not resist. Reddog this comment is so ludicrous. I seriously doubt you were the best single A school at state. (even if you were in AA) Not to disrespect Red Bank, because we were thrilled when they won the AA title, but at the Tennessee Tandem tournament in Chattanooga, Boyd defeated Red Bank (which is a true AA school). Also that day we defeated Soddy Daisy (AAA) and made it to the finals against Ooltewah (AAA). I seriously doubt CPA would have beaten Boyd this year, and we also play by the same multiplier rule at Boyd.

The games were played and every team had it's chance...there is no debate. Good luck next year.

  5. What a great ride this has been! Congrats to our Lady Bucs and what they have accomplished! You ladies showed a lot of class by going over behind Red Bank's bench to help cheer them on to their state championship after you had won yours.

Steph, Erica, Ashley, and Taylor (our seniors) way to end your high school career on top!

Rachel, Maggie, Hope, Mo, Jessica, and Mandi...you guys come back next year with the same intensity. You will have a great core to start with. Jessica, I know you will be doing great things as setter for the next three years!

You ladies made history by bringing home the 1st ever state championship in volleyball! Celebrate and enjoy!!!! :thumb:

  6. smdad, We heard your great news! Congrats! Region 3-A will make a strong showing..I am sure of it! Look forward to seeing you and the other Chattanooga teams at the 'Boro! I heard that Chattanooga Christian (AA) is in also. Baylor plays Saturday for a berth to the 'Boro.

  7. In some of the previous posts, Anderson County is spoken of in glorious terms, some of which might have justification. But it seems that some of the previous thoughts are based on urban legend, the fact is Anderson County has won one state championship in Volleyball and none in Basketball. Enough about that. Oak Ridge is probably thought of as a football school with some justification. But I find it sad when a poster wants to blame the parents and student body for the performance of any sports team. That is just plain silly. And then to go on and equate not reporting on a web site, scores, tournaments as verifying no fan support or parental support to volleyball is just assinine. I am sure that the good people of Oak Ridge support their teams with much spirit and enthusiam. They are not to be blamed for the volleyball or any other team not meeting some pie in the sky expectations. If that is the case, then 98% percent of the volleyball teams parents and students should be blamed for the failure of their teams falling short or not making it to state. This is hardly the truth and should not be used as an example in trying to promote some other agenda. If Oak Ridge were to make it to state this current season, I am fairly sure that a good number of fan support would follow them even though they would have to travel almost 200 miles to do so. So hang tight Orcat and remember nobody pays much attention to what any newspaper says anyway, in the end what happens on the court is what will be remembered. B)

Amen to that! At the beginning of last season, no one even thought of Boyd making a deep run into the playoff season because of all the seniors that graduated the year before, but we did. Early polls and newspaper articles don't mean a whole lot. That is why you play the games. The rest will take care of itself. :D

  8. Just wanted to update you guys about the Cleveland player that was injured this weekend. I found out last night that this young lady had NO broken bones, which is truly a miracle if you witnessed her accident!! She had some stitches in the mouth area and had a little dental surgery and her arm is bruised along with her face, but she will be returning to school in few days. I was sitting about 3 feet away when the accident happened and I was so worried that she had broken something because of the impact. I just praise God that he was watching over this young athlete!!

  9. Boyd-Buchanan Wins Bradley Volleyball Bash

    posted August 29, 2009 Chattanoogan.com

The Lady Bucs volleyball team from Boyd Buchanan School took their game on the road Saturday to Cleveland, TN. and participated in the Bradley Bash Volleyball Tournament at Bradley Central High School. After about eleven hours of volleyball, eating, waiting around and then more of the same, the Lady Bucs team, parents, and fans headed back down I-75S with the championship hardware.

The day started early with a 9:00am match with a much improved East Hamilton team under the leadership of former Lady Bucs coach Kristy Lenoir who is now the head coach of the first year East Hamilton High School. The Lady Bucs won the match 25-16 and 25-18.

The next match was against former Region 3AA foe McMinn Central. The Lady Bucs easily won this match 25-9 and 25-11.

After lunch, Boyd Buchanan took on host Bradley Central and won that match 25-16, 15-7.

Then came the first meeting with Cleveland High School, picked by many to be one of the top teams in the area. It was an exciting match with Cleveland coming out on top 16-25, 26-24, 16-14.

The Lady Bucs beat Bradley in the semifinals 25-15, 25-15. The win gave the Lady Bucs another chance at Cleveland in the championship game. The first game was a close, exciting, hard fought game. Boyd came out on top 25-21. In the second game Boyd came out early and never looked back winning the final game 25-16.

The Lady Bucs are under the direction of first year coach Amber Nolen. The Lady Bucs improved to 7-1 on the young year and are 2-0 in District 5A play.

    BBS Stats:

Stephanie Silvers 79 digs 47 kills 8 aces

Rachel Harper 85 digs 37 kills 15 aces

Maggie Brown 24 kills 7 aces

    Erica Morris 119 assists

Ashley Hixson 76 digs 6 aces

Hope Johnson 84 digs 10 kills 12 aces

  10. Boyd Buchanan won the championship final against Cleveland High School (25-21, 25-16). Please pray for Payton Tipton, Libero for Cleveland, who had a bad accident running into the hand rails while running down a ball against Boyd. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital. I don't know much more than that. Keep her in your prayers that her injuries are not bad.

East Hamilton continues to improve under Coach Kristy Lenoir. Defensively they played pretty sound ball today.

Here are the scores that I have for Boyd..

    Pool Games

Boyd Buchanan defeated East Hamilton 2-0 (25-16, 25-18)

Boyd Buchanan defeated McMinn Central 2-0 (25-9, 25-11)

Boyd Buchanan defeated Bradley Central 2-0 (25-16, 25-7)

    Boyd Buchanan lost to Cleveland 1-2 (25-16, 24-26, 15-17)

    Bracket Elimination

Boyd Buchanan defeated Bradley Central 2-0 (25-15, 25-15)

Boyd Buchanan defeated Cleveland 2-0 (25-21, 25-16) Championship Match

Again, prayers go out to the Tipton family and the Cleveland H/S family in hoping that Payton is okay and recovers soon.

  11. Thanks to Paul Brock and GPS on hosting a great playday that allows our girls to continue to get ready for the regular season.....Here are the scores that I have for Boyd Buchanan...Time limits applied to play today so some of the last games were not played to 25...

Boyd defeated East Ridge (25-18, 25-13)

Boyd defeated Chattanooga Christian (25-18, 25-5)

Boyd defeated Notre Dame (25-21, 21-18)

    Boyd defeated GPS (25-22, 23-17)

Boyd defeated Sale Creek (25-22, 25-13)

Boyd split with Baylor (11-25, 16-14)

We were without our MH Rachel Harper, who will be out of her boot in a couple of weeks..The rest of the girls played well and looked like they are coming together as a team. East Ridge was pretty scrappy...GPS, even with their rebuilding year, was very scrappy for a young team..would you expect anything less from a Paul Brock team? Baylor looked very good and should do well this season. Thanks again to GPS for hosting a great event!

  12. Chattdaddy, Amen...We (Boyd) had our first 3 matches in the hotbox. Only thing you can do is try to keep the girls hydrated. In between matches the parents would go outside, where it was easily in the 90's but it felt so much cooler outside. Several moms talked about how cold they were when we actually got to play in the air conditioned gym. I think someone could have a good fundraiser if they showed up selling fans to the spectators...LOL.

  13. I would have to agree that Alex Martin is the beast of Chattanooga. She is the total package and Ooltewah should do well... I heard that Dobbins Bennett had players from the Kingsport VBC on their team, and I do remember them during club season..they are good and should do well... Red Bank, my mistake earlier, should be a strong contender since they dropped down to AA this season.... The twins at CSAS are just great athletes, they already have a state championship in doubles tennis from spring fling last year and they look pretty good on the volleyball court.... I didn't get to see Cleveland today because they were at East Ridge, but from what I witnessed at the Choo Choo team camp, they are going to give a lot of people fits in AAA...they aren't big, but they are quick and the back line plays spectacular defense. Next week for us is the GPS playday on August 15. I don't know who all will be there, but knowing Coach Brock, he will have a pretty good line up for next Saturday. Good luck to all the teams and stay healthy! :thumb:

  14. Okay here is what I have from Boyd....Boyd played every match against AAA schools..which should make our little single A school ready when it counts. First off was Ooltewah..Boyd lost two to Ooltewah, but hung with them pretty well... (19-25, 20-25)..Next was Portland..Boyd won 2 against Portland (25-16, 25-16)....Boyd then won 2 against Oak Ridge (25-22, 25-20)...Boyd then split with Dobbins Bennett...I missed most of that match...Then Boyd finished off with Red Bank losing two but both games teetered back and forth..scores were (22-25, 20-25)...Jessica, Taylor, Hope, Ashley, Rachel, Maggie, Erica and Stephanie will have a great year this year..no doubt..Just a note...the setter is Erica Morris..Erica was the starting libero off of last year's state runner up team....and she is a senior. :thumb:

  15. mom, you wouldn't have the total schedule at Red Bank on the 8th woud you?

I really hate to ask you this but do you know anyone I could get the East ridge Schedule from?

  18. Boyd Buchanan will be competing in the new A classification this year. Boyd returns 6 of the 8 players, who were state runner up last year in A/AA. The new coach, Coach Amber Nolan, looks like she is gelling with the girls pretty good from what I have seen...could be an interesting year.

  19. It was a great week in volleyball at East Ridge and Red Bank...

Cleveland has a very strong team this year and will do very well. Defensively they are about as sound as it gets.

    Red Bank looked good.

Ooltewah has a beast in Alex Martin and she does make a difference for them.

    Soddy Daisy also looked good.

Boyd Buchanan started out rusty, but ended strong with a big win over Soddy Daisy on Thursday. Not bad for a single A school hanging with the big dogs. We played without our big MH Rachel Harper last week. When she gets back in the line up, Boyd should do very well this year. Maggie, Stephanie, Erica, Ashley, Hope, Jessica and Taylor really learned to jell as a team this week...good job.

  20. Baylor Coach Stopford was forced to step down before she was fired. She has taken a job in the FBI out of town now. Talk is Baylor is trying to rebuild their volleyball program since it hasnt had much success in many years.

You know this is ridiculous. Baylor has had plenty of success under Lynne. You really need to know the facts before you accuse anyone of anything. I know that Baylor gave us a run for our money last season and we were state runner up! I wish Lynne all the best with her career. She will be missed by many in Chattanooga.
