District 7AA is having a great year this year but one player has been overlooked. Marcus Mathews of York Institute had one of the best years I have ever heard of. The dragons .500 record has caused several to over look this player. Mathews hit .607 with 18 doubles, and 3 triples. That is most folks whole high school career. Mathews was not even looked at for district MVP. While I do understand the fact that Copeland had a great year and lead his team to the regular season district championship, but most valuable player is not a measure of a teams record but a measure of a players value to his team. The truth is when voting for the honor came up York's coach would not even mention his batting average becuase of a fear of other teams not pitching to him in the playoffs. Yes, .607 in district 7AA may look blown out of proportion, but when the next higher batting average in the district is around .415 that means almost .200 points. I won't even mention the fact that over the entire season he only struck out once. Now why does a fact like this overlooked, this fan can not figure out, and why no scouts or college coaches are even talking to him boggles the mind. This player would be a valuable hitter to any team. Please let this terrible fact go unnoticed no longer.
