  1. Greetings from the west! It is a very sad year....no daughter left playing high school soccer! Of course, I still have to keep check on what is going on!

    For Briacrest this week:

    Tuesday:

    Briarcrest 4

    St Georges 1

    Thursday:

    Briarcrest 2

    Germantown HS 0

Here is an article regarding the season from the west:

First day of the season scores:

Wishing everyone a great (and safe) season!

  2. The All Star game was a great yesterday with the East beating the West 2 to 1. The girls really enjoyed getting to know each other and being able to play with girls that they have typically been playing against.

It was fun watching girls walking up to pick up uniforms being a little shy and then 4 hours later after the game was over, there were hugs and smiles. It was exciting to watch.

The East played a more organized game which helped them to get the win, but all of the girls on both teams worked hard and showed some great soccer skill. Tough to put girls together to play a cohesive game in a two hour period, but the coaches were able to get that accomplished. I believe that 17 girls were there for the East and 15 girls for the West.

Although there was controversy in how the players were nominated, etc....the game was a great success for those being able to participate. Many thanks to the THSSCA and TACA for putting this together and for Hendersonville for hosting the event.

  3. Pretty sure that this game is for seniors only. That is (another reason) why you don't see various teams represented.

I believe that everyone is correct...the game is for seniors and the coach has to complete the nomination form by a certain date. For teams with a lot of young talent....their year is coming!

  4. Here is the All Star East vs West Roster. Game is Saturday, the 13th in Hendersonville at 2:00.

  5. St Agnes - 3

    Briarcrest - 0

St Agnes played a solid game with speed, agressiveness, and skill and was always quick to take a shot. Briarcrest always seemed to a step off and took too long making decisions. On to next week versus Saint Benedict...

  6.

28 shots for Briarcrest...from where I watched the game, I saw a lot shots from outside the box not on target...and going the other way I saw 2 1 vs. 1 not scored

Let's not go crazy at 3-6-2 and be humble.

We will just have to agree to disagree...and, records do not always tell the tale of the games as you well know. And, the best team or the team with the most possession does not always win as you may know also. How many AAA teams have you played this year? We will leave our count at seven....starting with the AAA state champs, AAA state finalist, and both AAA state semi finalist....

I realize that Madison Academic Magnet, Tipton Rosemark Academy, Fayette Academy, and Rossville Christon are soccer powerhouses and racking up 6 to 12 goals on

those schools must have been very rewarding for you and your team.

Any by the way, this wasn't my count of shots....this was the statistician's count...not sure of shots on goal....I'm sure that the count there would be nice as your keeper made some great saves.

And also by the way.....I didn't say "shots on goal"....I did say "shots"....check your definitions....however, I will commend your keeper....she always did seem to be in the right place at the right time.

  7. Briarcrest - 1

Univ school of Jackson - 1

Briarcrest had 28 shots and only was able to get one in....primarily shooting to hands. Both goals came during the first half. USJ goal came from a scramble at the 18 and ball rolling in.

I heard that Saint Agnes lost 2 to 1 to Brentwood high school but that Saint Agnes possessed the ball more in the first half but it was a very even game 2nd half.

Another final score.....Houston 3 to 0 over Franklin HS with Olivia Harrison having a hat trick.

  8. Saint Benedict - 1

    Saint Agnes - 1

From what I understand, SAA outplayed SBA during the first half and then SBA came out strong 2nd half. Both goals were scored in the first half.

    Briarcrest - 0

    White Station - 2

Dismal, disjointed performance by Briarcrest and kudos to White Station for playing with heart and energy, and as a team. Briarcrest outshot White Station by a margin of 4 to 1....but White Station made their opportunities count.

  9. Briarcrest - 3

    St George's - 1

Briarcrest scored the first goal and SGIS countered. At the half, it was 1 to 1. Second half, Briarcrest came out strong and scored 2 within the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half. Game was pretty physical with minimal fouls being called.

    FROM MY SOURCES>>>>

    St Benedict - 2

    Colleriville - 2

From my info, both teams scored one of their goals via PKs....one was for a handball by SBA and the other was due to a foul in the box by Collierville. SBA scored first with Collierville getting the PK to tie it up 1 to 1 at the half. During the 2nd half, Collierville scored first and then SBA got the PK to tie it back up.

  10. Soccermom, is St. Agnes as good as last year? Even if they're close it's good because they were pretty darn good last year. How does such a small school produce such powerhouse teams?

Yep.....they are strong. They possess good speed combined with skill....really a total package. They control the midfield well which assists the fact that they have young defenders and a young keeper. If you can penetrate the midfield, you can score on them....but you have to get past their midfield first along with being abot to keep their three forwards at bay. Most, if not all, of their players play club ball and they are constantly moving on the field to create strong passing lanes.

Additionally, the school is an all girl school with about 340 girls in the high school to form a varsity team of 18.

From what I have heard from other teams is that one way to have opportunities on them is to play a primarily defensive game and not try to play them straight up....then lob a ball over the midfield with a sprint to goal to go one-on-one with the keeper.

  11. Hearsay scores:

    St Agnes - 2

    St George's - 1

    Houston - 11

    Bolton - 1

    Actual scores:

    Briarcrest - 0

    Saint Benedicts - 0

Both teams had numerous opportunities on goal and played hard for 80 minutes. Each team took turns having 5 to 10 minute heavy possession timeframes. This was a big district game for both teams.

  12. I few suggestions/questions....Notre Dame ranked 5 and CAK 6? Germantown played both and beat ND 3-1 yet lost to CAK 5-1...a saw both...my vote is CAK ahead of ND unless they have played head to head with ND winning...

Briarcrest should be ahead of Gtown for now...they won head to head 3-2......Gtown beat ECS 1-0....St Marys beat Collierville last week 3-2....St. Georges and USJ tied....

Here's my West TN top 10

1 Houston ( you could flip 1 & 2 and not get much arguement right now)

    2 St Agnes

    3. St Benedict (3-5 interchangeable)

    4. St. Mary's

    5. Collierville

    6. St. Georges

    7. Briarcrest

    8. USJ

    9. Germantown

    10. ECS

Thanks for the Briarcrest vote! We have had a challenging season to date playing top teams in the state including the AAA state champion, AAA state finalist, both AAA state semi finalists, and D2AA state champion....(Houston, Collierville (1 goal loss), Franklin (1 goal loss), Brentwood (2 goal loss), Hendersonville (1 goal loss), St Agnes (2 goal loss), and Germantown (win). The games were close and not one sided games, which I am thrilled with considering we are starting only two seniors and two juniors with limited bench talent. Many of the games could have gone either way. We have a Freshman keeper who is getting stronger with each game. Now, we have to get down to business playing St Benedict, Hutchison, ECS, St George's, etc.....this may very well be only a re-building year, but I am hoping to finish the season strong playing D2 teams.

  13. Several games played at Mike Rose tonight...

    GAME 1

    Collierville - 1

    Briarcrest - 0

Well played game with the only goal coming from a perfectly placed corner kick that curved into the goal by a Collierville left footer.....went in far post.

    GAME 2

    Franklin Road Academy - 2

    Lausanne - 0

Friendly game with primary possession by FRA. Lausanne plays another friendly versus Univ School of Nashville tomorrow

    GAME 3

At the half, St Agnes was up 2 to 1 over Pope John Paul in a friendly game. PJP scored first with SAA answering quickly. Right before the half time whistle, SAA scored again off a well played short corner. Game appeared to be pretty even with both sides having opportunities. PJP plays St Benedict's on Saturday.

  14. St Georges's - 1

    Houston - 1

From what I have heard, Houston scored first and St George's later tied it up. Houston had primary possession during the game but could not score. Late in the game, the SGS keeper fouled the shooter and was given a red card. The Houston player taking the PK hit the crossbar not being able to capitalize on the PK opportunity against the back up keeper.

    From Wednesday night...

    Hutchison - 0

    Germantown - 3

Briarcrest versus Collierville game originally scheduled for tonight was rescheduled for Friday night due to a school open house.

  15. Two additional scores:

    Franklin HS - 2

    St George's - 1

Hearsay was that Franklin took 32 shots to St George's 6 shots....not confirmed...just from a SGS parent.

    Hendersonville - 2

    Briarcrset - 1

Tough game for Briarcrest. Both goals for Hendersonville came from well placed free kicks from about 25 yards out. Hendersonville played the better first half while Briarcrest played the better 2nd half taking repeated shots on goal. Hendersonville's keeper played strong.

    Monday games:

    Collierville versus Franklin

    Briarcrest versus Brentwood

    St Georges versus Hendersonville

  16. In the past, Briarcrest had always done the Oak Ridge tournament, but the Hendersonville tournament attracted schools from Memphis that have typically gone to Oak ridge. One big advantage is that the girls did not have to miss school on Friday since Hendersonville utilizes the holiday and plays games on sat/sun/mon versus Oak ridge playing games on fri/sat/sun. This also allowed parents to not have to take a day of vacation from work to go to the tournament. Additionally, it is a shorter drive to play in Nashville.

    Teams in Hendersonville:

    Hendersonville HS

    Brentwood HS

    Franklin HS

    Collierville HS

    St George's

    Briarcrest

  17. Hendersonville Tournament started today....please use this topic for reporting scores. Six teams are participating....Franklin HS, Brentwood HS, Hendersonville HS, Collierville HS, St George's HS, and Briarcrest. Each of Memphis area teams will be playing each of the Nashville area teams once.

    First game of the tournament:

    Briarcrest - 3

    Franklin HS - 4

Franklin was up 2 to 0 at the half and Briarcrest came out feisty in the 2nd half scoring two goals to tie the game. Franklin scored 2 additional with Briarcrest only answering with 1.

It was a great game to watch with Franklin having more shots on goal than Briarcrest, but the Briarcrest team did not give up and continued to fight.
