  1. I remember the days when Overton week was one of the most physical weeks of football on our schedule. We would try to find the hardest hitting kids and put them in I-formation and run of tackle over and over and over again trying to match the physicality that a Terry Anderson offense would bring.  J. Stewart did a great job when he was OC keeping that physicality in his multiple offensive system too under Williams

East is in one of the best football situations in Nashville. They have to get this hire right though, Coach Waite worked his tail off for that community and his young men.

I agree with Lopez, there is a lot of good that can happen over there.

    Open enrollment helps

Middle school right next door and shares building. Probably needs to find a way to get a middle school program at East not split with other middle school.

The stadium is great but needs turf. TPS was horrible.  sharing with other sports and practicing on it makes field conditions horrible.

The weight room well..... I guess we can call it a weight room

East is on the map and kids know about it. So the right hire and the right resources could help the Eagles get back on top.

They also have good rivalries with Stratford, Pearl, and Maplewood which helps the cash flow.

Lopez just move on back down here and take it. Miss ya buddy

I think Cane Ridge/Ravenwood will be a closer game than the previous game just because of field conditions.  Cane Ridge's offense is not built for the rain that they played in a couple of months ago.

Ill pray for sunny skies and 75 degrees.  Good luck to the Ravens

I agree however I  do think Stratford has a  legitimate shot and that  is why I said maybe 2.

I just spoke to a Fairview coach.  Giles came out in smoke stack and ran the ball well. The score to the Giles game is not a representation of how the game actually was. Stratford has a great shot to win this week but better get ready for some ground and pound.  Giles knows who will get most of the carries for the Spartans and will come prepared. Good Luck to all MNPS teams this week.

  5. This is what I know. I know that the Bears are rolling with some young guys at key positions. I also know that MJ will come in with all their I's dotted and their T's crossed.  Defensively they have the ability to get after it and are well coached. Offensively since moving to a more spread attack they are still having success and are putting points up.

Hendersonville is better than what their record shows. Against Gallatin they were able to move the ball at will but just couldn't finish drives. I believe MJ has the upper hand in this match up but will have to play a solid game and not let the Commandos keep it close.

The problem with  the 9/10th grade  was that some "coaches" would sneak in juniors and an occasional senior just to try to win a 9/10 game. And yes that really did happen more  than once.

    8 teams had freshman teams.

Cane RIdge  Hillsboro  Overton McGavock Pearl Cohn  East Stratford and Maplewood

If you look above they are also the top ranked Metro programs.

    Doesn't surprise me.

  7. While we were fortunate to field freshmen, JV and Varsity teams. It may be a good option for Metro to just go back to JV teams only 9th/10th graders. They did this a few years ago and I believe, had some success growing programs. Mainly because the 10th graders that didn't play on fridays were able to still get playing time which in turn kept them interested in football.

  8. Here are my take aways from the game.

1.) Great atmosphere start to finish including the battle of the bands after the game.

2.) Pearl was able to run two or three formations with basic plays and was able to score. East made this a little easier because of mistakes on special teams. (Pearl I like your heavy set in wildcat)

3.) East would go single back or empty but would always look to go back side with Starling.  He is a good player with a few good catches the game on slant routes. East had some great concepts on the 3 receiver side but never used them. Id like to see Starling get mixed into some of those concepts as we get closer to the playoffs. Rub routes, crossing routes, and screens would get him the ball a little easier than his one on one match ups.

4.) Both teams have solid defenses and both showed a lot of enthusiasm on the defensive side of the ball.

Overall it was great to be back in Metro and be able to watch two teams I have a lot of history with compete. Thank you Coach Brunetti for the hospitality and Good Luck to both teams in the Playoffs.

  9. I am excited for this matchup.

#1 Pearl is always a fun atmosphere and have coached on the opposite sideline there a few times.

#2 I was on the original 2008-2009 East coaching staff that got things rolling again

#3 Both Teams have a lot of talent and will be fun to watch and broadcast.

Will Boiling and I will be there broadcasting live for the TNHighSchoolFootball.com game of the week and 104.5 the zone.

CR beat PC 10-9 in 2012, and been running every since until tonight.

It was actually 33-26 and in 2013-2014 the schedules changed and strength of schedule was a playoff tie breaker which means a 6A school did not benefit playing a 4A school. I can’t answer for the reason why after that. We’ve had this conversation before though FireBird

This is a game everyone has been waiting for . I can't choose a winner and feel 100% confident in it . PC looked good and CR has been a top tier team year in and out since Woods arrival .

I hope PC doesn't make that move to 2A it would look bad on their running from the hill they haven't got over yet . Winning a 2A title with the number of kids and player type they have wouldn't be impressive IMO. That would be the easy way out but hey I'm not their admin or coaches. If that's their way of getting a title then I guess that's what they will do .

I’m pretty sure Cane Ridge has been to the playoffs every year since 2012. I could be mistaken. They also beat Pearl in 2012 both in Varsity and for the Freshman City Championship. All that to say yes Cane Ridge has been good for a while.

  12. Looking forward to coming back to Gallatin to watch and call some football. If any of you get a opportunity make sure you come say hi to Will Boiling and I (Coach Jonathan Parks) with TN High School Football. I feel honored to have played and coached on the field at Gallatin. Always a great football environment even though I was always the opponent.

Metro sure could use you. You were one of the great young coaches.

Great? Far from it. I learned a lot through out my time in Metro and worked my tail off. So did my assistants and more importantly the young men I held accountable every single day. I’ve told my friends who think I would never come back to Never say Never. ;-)

Bleacher any chance your boy takes a look at Overton since HW fell through? Overton could be a good job for someone and there are really good people there. Mike Morrison is one of the best men, teachers, and coaches around. JS is in the building and could make for a good coordinator. Just wondering if there is even a chance he would consider it.

I am a proud alum and want the best for the bobcats whomever that may be. I think very highly of SW and hate that what happened to him and hopefully Johnny O can make a good hire and get things back on track. Whomever they hire the first person I would go to is MM and get as much wisdom I could from him. He is the bobcat.

Work, I’ll apply and come back to teaching and coaching if you agree to come with me if I get it. Would probably bring a few familiar faces with me.

I saw EN play once last year. Their kids were out of control.  Some of them are going to be in the newspaper one day with how their taught to act on the field. It’s ironic you never see that crap at small rural schools but you always see it at inner city metro schools.  It’s taught by the coaches

As a former metro coach I know 100% for a fact players are taught discipline on and off the field all year long. Reguadless of what is coached and taught on and off the field many lessons are not learned till the district policies and protection of the school are long gone. I still get phone calls to this day with former players telling me I am always on their minds and thanking me for holding them accountable. Wardog1970 I disagree with your assumptions and would prefer you to keep your comments to yourself. Who holds you accountable?

  16. Antioch is a big enough school to have a quick turn around. Right coach with the right name they would make a instant jump just like CR. There's plenty of athletes that attend the school but choose not to play football.

Instant jump? If I remember correctly CR has been competitive since 2012 and everyone knew this group of 2017 seniors was special but still didn't get it done unfortunately. The main problem is the outside influences that hurt the decision making of all those so called athletes. Coaches like Mike helped them make the right decisions on and off the field.
