Backs are looking good as expected. Preston Rice, Avery Davis, Briley Harris, Cameron Ruddle and Joe Birchette in the backfield will be hard to stop. Returning Blaine Bevis and Dawson Mathis at receivers but don't know who will be joining them, Davis will be catching passes out of the backfield. The line is starting to come together with some good sized boys that get after it pretty good. Will know a little more after Thursday's scrimmage but still have some playing baseball.

 

Looks like we'll be expecting to play some smashmouth football. The "run it down your throat" philosophy.

Give me an update on this year's squad. Been out of the loop for a while and want to see how WC stacks up this year and important players.

It's for real

 

It is a lot of traveling and every team in the region has to play each other. I don't like the traveling but I like the new competition.

 

That's a huge amount of traveling for Wayne County and Collinwood both. Clarksville and Huntingdon are at least 2 1/2-3 hours bus rides from the school. Those bus rides can take a lot out of team. I remember the trips to Moore County and Jo Byrns/Cascade that seemed like we would never get there. 

Of course I'll be picking Wayne County. Is this for real how they rearranged the new regions though? That seems like a lot of travelling if these teams play each other. 

As seventh graders they went 8-1 and won the quad county bowl and as eight graders they went 5-3 with a couple of those losses coming by two points and the other one a 8-0 loss to Lewis Co in overtime. There's currently 21 freshman so I can't start naming names but there's some pretty good players in the group.

 

Ah. I thought I vaguely remembered a couple of years where they had some bad years. Maybe I was mistaken. 21 freshmen is a hugeeee class. 

Aren't the upcoming guys the same players who had really bad records in middle school?

What do you guys think about the region this upcoming year? I'm personally biased. 

Definitely will be a contender in their first few years. Summertown has always had athletes, mostly in baseball and basketball, but I can see that translating over to their football team.

I couldn't believe it either shep. I mean those teams aren't even close. Those are teams we used to play in our region. Richland still is, as of right now. Y'all got more the just the shaft....

Those trips to Moore County and Richland used to be torture from Wayne County. The absolute worst was the drive to Jo Byrns..

What's Wayne County's schedule for the year?

Playing different sports throughout the year can hurt in some ways. It may take a couple of years for them to adjust to playing football and to contend, but I say in 3-5 years Summertown will be a serious contender.

Summertown may shake things up if that's what it'll look like the next 2 years.

How do you see 1-A looking this year? Top teams? Contenders for the playoffs? Top players? 

I hope to see Perry County back again this year. 

How is Wayne County and their chances looking in the Region this year compared to the other teams? 

It's good to be back. Glad to see Wayne County's progress.

Everyone knew that these "dark days" were coming for Wayne County. Now we just have to keep encouraging these kids and holdfast through it.

Come on some of you sore loser South Pittsburg fans, you know good and well that if you guys would have won, this topic would have been 350+ pages of y'all telling us how our schedule wasn't good enough, we can't compete with the East, and etc.

 

This is our time to shine, and your time to eat your crow. This is our moment in the spotlight, so get over yourselves.

Wayne County will be the defending state champs next fall. Until someone beats them, they are The Man. SP loses a lot of guys as well. We lose guys of the O-line and most of the receivers. The defensive secondary is going to have to be rebuilt. SP has a lot of work to do as well. On top of that, the regular season is going to be about as rough next year as this year. We dodged a bullet winning 3 big road games in a row to get to C-ville this year.

 

Your offensive line this year was HUGE. 2 of your boys looked over 300+ pounds.
