  1. Yes....he has to be up to do any of that. Otherwise he's down at that spot. You are correct he can start with his knee on the ground. He can leave it on the ground for the FG attempt but to do anything you mentioned he needs for it to be off the ground.
  2. If a FG is being kicked his knee can be on the ground. If he is going to pitch the ball on a fake it needs to be off the ground when he does this. If the snap is high he can raise up, catch the snap, and go back down to the knee. Hope this helps.
  3. Kicking team ball, 1st and 10 at that spot. I'm at work now but later this evening I'll type out and even crazier scenario in which the kicking team gets a first down.
  4. Think of it like this, a FG is the same as a punt that can score. Where does the ball become dead in your scenario? If it breaks the plane of the goal line it's a touchback. If it rolls dead at the 5 then that's where it would be put in play. If it doesn't break the plane it can be returned just like a punt. Make sense? Let me know something more specific and I'll try and answer it.
  5. Nope, there's not been a rule change on this.
  6. Either team can be called for a face mask. So, yes the runner can face mask a defender. It's not something you see very often.
  7. That is the right call. Live ball fouls by each team, offset and replay.
  8. He's right that it's not a TN rule, it's NFHS. 48 of 50 states play by NFHS. Sometimes a state will test a rule for a year that is different from others but mists everything is NFHS governed. Why it's a rule? Because the book says so I really can't answer why I just know it is.

  10. Bump for the ones that don't already know all the rules.
  11. There are some rule changes: https://www.nfhs.org/media/1015054/2015-nfhs-football-rules-comments-web-site.pdf As far as "pet peeves" that will be focused on, we won't find out what the state wants for another 6-8 weeks when meeting take place. There we will be told what the focus will be. In recent years it has been sideline control and keeping the teams back in the area they are supposed to be in.
  12. It's about that time of year again. What questions do you have??
  13. Do you mean an automatic first down? Typically a 15 yard penalty does result in a first down To answer your question, NO. The only automatic first downs in high school are roughing fouls. This is roughing the snapper, kicker, passer, and holder. Pass interference, unsportsmanlike conduct, and personal fouls are not automatic first downs.
  14. I see no way to control things like this. If they are on the field they have to stay inside the team box. If they are in the stands or standing around the fence I don't know of anything we could do.
  15. Not a clue. Something like this would not be our issue.
  16. c. The following Other Illegal Equipment: 2. Communication devices, used to communicate with a player except during an outside 9-yard mark conference (7-yard marks in nine-, eight-, and six-player competition). ART. 1 . . . Communication devices including but not limited to audio recorder, Local Area Network (LAN) phones and/or headsets, mobile phones, still photograph(s), film, analog or digital video(s) and/or Internet depictions, shall not be used to communicate with a player except during an outside 9-yard mark conference (7-yard marks in nine-, eight- and six-player competition). NOTE: Each state association may authorize the use of a drum by a team composed of deaf or partially deaf players, in order to establish a rhythmic cadence following the ready-for-play signal. ART. 2 . . . Communication devices including but not limited to audio recorder, Local Area Network (LAN) phones and/or headsets, mobile phones, still photograph(s), film, analog or digital video(s) and/or Internet depictionsmay be used by coaches and nonplayers.
  17. Playoff time is here, I know you have rules questions. Let's hear them.
  18. That is correct. Either team can advance it from behind the line of scrimmage.
