  1. Good point but 2 Chuckey Doak kids were on the 12 year old team and a 3rd joined them on the 13 year old team best I remember. Then South Greene in A Sectionals had 1 kid on those teams.

I agree with your point, I am just saying the wealth of the travel/Little League success is spread around a bit in Greene County.

  2. Sectional Match Ups:

    Knox Catholic @ Greeneville

    Chuckey-Doak @ CAK

    Murf. Central @ Sequoyah

    Loudon @ Upperman

    CPA @ Sycamore

    Lipscomb Acad. @ Spring Hill

    Ripley @ Chester Co.

    Milan @ Covington

  3. Knox Catholic at Greeneville has been moved to 1:00 on Friday due to conflicts with Greeneville's graduation Friday night.  If the weather is a problem, the plan is to play Saturday night at 6 (Catholic has their graduation Saturday morning).

The game is being played at Tusculum College and that field drains very well.

  4. Just a fun fact - Many of the Greeneville and Spring Hill Senior Class members split Little/Junior League State Titles when they were 12 and 13. Spring Hill winning when 12 and Greeneville winning when they were 13. Proof good travel team programs and LL programs in those locations.

Greeneville has 4 seniors who were on that team.  One other is on Chuckey Doak's team who is also playing for a state berth.

  5. Looks like lots of familiar matchups.

                                                    (Head to Head)

Chuckey Doak @ Greeneville (GHS leads 4-0 )

Knox Catholic @ CAK (CAK leads 2-1 )

    Loudon @ Sequoyah (SHS leads 3-1 )

Murfeesboro Central @ Upperman (Upperman leads 2-1)

Sycamore @ Lipscomb Academy (First meeting)

CPA @ Spring Hill (SHHS leads 2-1)

Milan @ Chester Co (first meeting)

Covington @ Ripley (an even 2-2)

  6. Great games last night.  Gville won both.  Game one - Jordan Idell (frosh) pitched a complete game victory.  Devils won 7-2.  Cabbage took the loss for Grainger

Game two went to 9 innings before the Devils broke a 2-2 game open.  Final was 5-2. Bowman threw a complete game and was named tourney MVP.  Bates took the loss in relief.

Both teams made some big plays and some big mistakes.  Only two earned runs in the second game.

Devils took the long way, having to play six games to win the championship.  Greeneville used just 4 pitchers.  Idell threw complete games in 1 & 5.  Bowman threw complete games in 2 & 6, Hartness (Soph) threw a complete game in game #3 and Collins (Soph) threw a complete game in #4.

This team is very young but they grew up this week.  Box scores for the brac tourney can be found here

  7. Just letting the numbers speak:

    Greeneville's regular season opponents records - 58- 54 (+4)

    Giles Co's regular season opponents records - 48 - 62 (-14)

Greeneville beat 2 6A teams (Science Hill (8-4) & Franklin Co (3-7)) and lost to a 5A team (Mo West (11-2)). Science Hill lost in the 2nd round of the 6 A playoffs, Mo West lost in the Quarter finals, Franklin Co didn't make the playoffs. They also beat 3A Alcoa out of conference who was eliminated in the Quarter finals.

Giles Co's non conference schedule consisted of a loss to 6A Lincoln Co. (4-6) and win over 5A Lawrence Co (1-9). Neither team made the playoffs.

Prior to the playoffs, Greeneville had played five teams that finished with a winning record, with one more making the playoffs with a 5-6 record. Giles Co. had played three teams that finished with a winning record and two more that made the playoffs with 5-6 and 6-6 records respectively.

Greeneville has played a tougher schedule.

Giles County has caught fire at the end of the season and is on a good run. Sometimes teams catch fire in the post season and make a deep run.

I fully expect Giles County's run to end in Greeneville on Friday night. I'm hoping for a good close game but after looking at the records and opponents, I am not optimistic.

  8. Just have a question and I hope someone can answer it. I left the game during the 4th quarter and as i was driving down the hill by the fieldhouse,I saw a Knox County Sheriffs Dpt. car parked next to Carter's busses. And I was just wondering why they were there? This is the first time I have ever seen a team be escorted in by the police from their county. It is like they were expecting trouble or something. If someone could explain this I would be interested to know why.

That is a school resource officer's vehicle. Both Scott Co and Knox Carter have had them travel with the team.

  9. 7 -7 at the half. G'ville intercepted in end zone and Mo West has miseed 3 FG. So plenty of missed opportunities.

Mo West controlling G'ville's running game. Shuff went 80 yards on one run, only 21 other yards.

Mo West runners have been breaking tackles. Let's see what the 2nd half holds.

  10. I had to leave before ya'll played against Trezevant. I just read the stats from the State Championship game. Ya'll put up impressive stats on offense, especially rushing. Your passing numbers were lower than rushing,of course some teams don't risk passing when they can just ram it down your throat....was this the case with Trezevant?.....just curious.

THS was very thin - less than 30 players - I think the game plan was to run it down their throats and wear them down. Greeneville only threw 3 passes in the first half. GHS ran more than passed all year long.

  11. OK Sheep...Look at 9:10 of this video http://www.youtube.com/user/bigvoldaddy#p/u/35/RMexRbUSSeE

Looks pretty mutual to me w/ (as I said earlier) GVille DL giving a little extra after the play. The kid that was involved is one of the most quiet and restrained kids on the team. He just had enough of the late hits.

Also, You just showed your ignorance about east tn high school football. Everyone that knows anything about the Fulton program knows that their coaches do not tolerate bad character and unsportsmanlike conduct. And yes, every program has a few players that go overboard, but they dont get much playing time if they do that at Fulton.

Sometimes sheep like yourself dont like the truth bc it does hurt, or you think it tarnishes your idea of a great season. Props goes out to your team on the 'ship, but lets not get carried away and forget your place...One Gold Ball does not make you a Dynasty. Your '10 edition would not stack up to the Fulton

    '03 or '06 teams.

I was at this game - The quiet restrained kid had taken a cheap shot the play before and the ref instead of flagging him, talked to him. The result was the two players getting ejected the next play. I know the G'ville kid too. He too is a kind, pleasant kid.

Let's face it when boys are on the football field, aggression can get the best of them. Both boys were at fault for losing their cool. I believe that the lesson G'ville learned about the cost of loosing your cool, helped them in the state finals.

I agree that coaches and the respect they carry among their players is the key to avoiding the behavior we saw at the state.

  12. Can I get links to these articles? I've read several but haven't seen any quotes like this.

    Thanks

"After his team got beaten badly in every phase of the game, Bears’ head coach Teli White was asked how Greeneville compared to some of the other tough teams on Trezevant’s schedule this year.

“They don’t,†White said tersely. “It wasn’t anything (Greeneville) did. We let the referees dictate the way we played.â€

  13. From my own point view ..it was the refs who made the bears ..lose focus and control ...everything positve the bears did on offense and defense early on ..was flagged ..8+ flags in the first qtr alone ..senseless seemed like ..just enough to get you guys a nice cushion ...what else did you expect these kids to do?? ...the refs lost control by not letting these kids play ..and backed them in a corner .. they had no choice but to come out fighting... "if want to flag me ...for nothing then here is something to flag me for" .. now the refs have lost the respect of the kids and the coaching staff ...and the other team sits back and smile because everything going their way ...just as planned ...of all the games i watched ..no one was flagged more ...you guys act like these kids wanted ...to come out there and be made to look like fools ...they earned a right to play in that game just like greeneville...and should have been giving a chance ... im not saying they would have won the game ...but it would not have been the same score ...and to blame those guys for what happened to your bus ...wrong just as well... maybe it was a greeneville fan that slashes the wrong tires by mistakes.... now how does that sound??? ...just didnt like what i saw ...and it was a shame it came to that ..i was looking forward to a good game ...and all i saw was crap.. and i see this all to often ..

What are the refs supposed to ignore? THS strategy was to guess the snap count. They were wrong. A bunch. On extra points, they were doing it every time. It appeared the thought was it is not much of a penalty (half the distance) so take the chance. The flagrant one was hitting the center in the head, with a running start, before the snap. That should have been an ejection. When you are running at the center, you know if he has snapped the ball or not. The center is looking back and is defenseless. After that, I would have gone for 2 every time. To protect my center and my kicker (from the cheap shots).

The reason they were running into Ogle (in my opinion) was he was frustrating them. He put 6 of 8 kick offs in the end zone. 80 was jumping up and down and pouting every time one went ever his head. I kept waiting for him to target him on a return but it didn't happen. He did get a tackle on one of the 2 return opportunities.

The THS coach pulled the first kid who got a personal foul and got in his face a bit. After that, he didn't seem to respond. I guess when you have a limited bench, you can't pull every kid who commits a personal foul.

The only thing I wished the refs would have done is the pull the two coaches to the middle of the field and said "Enough, the next kid from either team who commits an unsportsmanlike conduct is gone." That might have restored some order. I was at the game and was concerned about it getting further out of control.

That said, I hate that THS didn't have their star back because of the injury. Would have liked to have played them at full strength.

  14. Also, #4 on their defense. I know his last name is Muhammed, because it seemed like the first 2 Greeneville drives he made every tackle. I never saw him do anything out of line. Those are all I can remember off the top of my head, but I'm sure there were a few more. So there were a few that got things right, but the ones that got things wrong that I can remember (mainly 32, 5, 51, and 80) overshadowed the ones that were playing the game the right way. So congratulations to the guys that played the right way and overcame your knuckleheaded coach.

#4 was impressive. He was the shortest kid on the field and must have a huge heart. I saw where he was credited with something like 16 or 18 tackles.

  15. You're either crazy or know nothing about football. Willie has a stronger arm and throws a better ball than Tanner. Tanner is about the fourth best passer on the team right now. In this order Willie, Perkins, Tyrus Rollins then Tanner, and Finchum is not far behind him. Not knocking Tanner but he's a running back. If you've been to any games or around the program you know this. If he'll work hard this off season he'll be fine. He's got to work through his progressions and work on throwing. The TD Willie through to Sandoval I think it was the Gibbs game, rolling left throwing the ball 30+ yards on a rope, Tanner could not have made that throw.

And yeah our O-Line works their butts off and returning all but one we will be nasty again next year.

I think Finchum is the QB of the future for the Greene Devils. He will push Stewart.

  16. I hear they are trying to offer colleges a package deal. I think it would be great to see them together in college, but it might limit their offers. Any truth to this?

Just my speculation but I don't know who the "they" is offering the package deal, but prospects at this level don't have the leverage to do package deals. I see B J as a DII or I-AA linebacker. Willy could run CN's offense or could be a DB but his academics might force him to go JuCo first.

  17. Hey dummy all you Greeneville fans can keep Driding...

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." (typed in best Inigo Montoya accent from the Princess Bride)

There is no word in the dictionary by that spelling. So I checked it out on line.

    According to the urbandictionary.com

driding - When a person asks a friend to hide their cell phone so the person doesn't make any regrettable phone calls or send any incriminating text messages while severely intoxicated.

That doesn't match the context of how you keep using the word.

D riding - (editing out profanity) getting up in ones grill...if someone tells you WHY YOU D RIDING, it probably means you are harassing them.

If it applies here, it is a bit of a stretch and since you never use the space, I don't think that is what you are getting at.

Now the word deriding according to dictionary.com means: To laugh at with contempt; to laugh to scorn; to turn to ridicule or make sport of; to mock; to scoff at.

That one seems to fit the context of how you use "driding".

So that leads me to a couple of conclusions to pull from:

    1. You were trying to use the right word and repeatedly misspelled it.

    2. You were trying to use a cool, hip word and used it or spelled it wrong.

Now you can say that you have be derided by a Greeneville fan. Go Devils!

  18. Doesn't matter, Greeneville is a machine and is the blueprint for every east TN team from here on out. Greeneville by 21

The mercy rule has been in effect in 10 of Greeneville's 12 games this year. The two games it was not used were weeks 0 & 1 against Sullivan South (34-7) & Jeff County (35-20). Will this be the 11th week in a row?

  19. Let's put it this way Fulton's coaches were apologizing to Rel, for what happened after the game.

I was impressed by the way one of the Fulton guys came to the Greeneville players before play was resumed and exchanged handshakes. I believe he was #57. Looked like the young man was showing some leadership. The Greeneville players reacted well to his gesture.

  20. Impressive statement for the Devils. I guess the Falcons now know how good they are. Stared slow offensively but I think the Falcons front was definitely the best the Devils have seen this year. They just wore down in the end. As for Rollins, he was ejected and that means he will miss the next game. Greeneville could appeal to TSSAA, but I doubt they'll listen.

I wish I had a video of the situation with Rel. One or two plays before, I think it was the same Fulton player who took exception to Thornton's rough tackle of a Fulton player. He came up and slung Thorton off. The ref talked to him instead of throwing a flag. If he throws that flag, the fight doesn't happen (IMHO). I was in the top row and I could hear Caine's "Pitiful" when he got the explanation from the ref.
