  1. it isn't just about numbers. in the end, you still have the same number of players on the varsity basketball team as any other team. It is how you groom those players at the early level and get buy-in to the program. Buy-in will result in harder work and in turn success. Success then turns to tradition. Tradition is a level that most schools do not achieve. Using the Cookeville example, they may only pull from 3 schools, but combined there is still a larger pool then 5 schools for Livingston. So why isn't Cookeville to that tradition level? The Livingston feeders show a passion and sheer desire to be part of the tradition. These schools get TONS of kids who try out for their bantam and varsity teams. The numbers are unbelievable. Obviously, many potentially good ones are cut. But instead of giving up totally on it, they come back the following year to try out even better because they still want to be a part of that tradition. Sorry to sound so sappy but not sure how else to describe it. LOL

I believe tradition does have a lot to do with it. Jim Brown comes to mind. When he got to Jackson they were so bad. With that being said it is easier for a Livingston than say a DeKalb ,Smith, or Cannon  just  by  numbers alone. If you do the math Livingston probably has 400 more students than the  schools mentioned. That is probably 200 more girls to choose from. Overton coaches do a very good job with their feeder programs and aau---bball showcase . Not crying about Livingston at all. That's just the way it is.

  2. I

I was told by a good friend of mine at macon that the team has some players but  i have'nt seen much. When they played L.A. they looked like they were just there trying to just get threw 4 quarters and go home so it's hard for me to beleive you.

I can understand your thinking. I believe if they put it all together they could be contenders. They looked like they had no purpose when I saw them. Driver wasn't playing that game.

  3. tonights games

Its a marathon not a 50 yard dash

  4. Macon has a player back that nobody in the district got to see last year.she can play and has some speed. This will help macon ALOT! Im not saying they going to win it all or every game but they will be much, much better than last year.Macon could be dangerous they return most if not all starters from last year.It all depends on what the players want to make of it.

Macon could be good they have got the Anderson girl and Bullington girl at post. Clark is very fast and you have to deal with Driver, , Shrum ,and Owens. Could be very good. Have not heard about the other player. would you like to enlighten us?

  5. When I said scheduling, I was using sarcasm. The coach apparently wants to win 20 games. That's more important than scheduling tougher opponent's to get ready for the district season. Just most people's thoughts. What u think.

Didn't catch that. My bad. I think playing some weaker teams is not that bad of a thing. It helps players with their confidence , gets the younger players some court time , and gets the coaches more acclimated to his players. There is just so many of those games a team needs to play. You will learn little about your team if the beat up on x-school three times a year when you can learn more about your team if you play, lets say,  Lebanon.

  6. DC has a good nucleus of players and good incoming freshmen. From what I hear their work ethic and the coach's work ethic leave alot to be desired. Not alot.of hard work this preseason. Hopefully all I hear is wrong and they have a great season. The scheduling that they play will definitely help. Good luck DC.

    Scheduling? Please explain. Thanks

  7. Livingston - I think they are head and shoulders over the rest of the field. experience + depth +good coach =  State

Smith - If refs keep calling hand checking , which they done for about 10 games last year, Hackett could get 20 from the line. Seniors that have had some big wins should help. Coach is a mystery.

Central - Should Smith get back full strength and obi they will be good.

Macon - Sleeper of 8 aa. Very good point guard , two post that have good hands, and a decent supporting  class. Very little team speed.

Upperman - wait till next year they will be in top 2 or 3

Cannon - Sort of up in the air on this. They cant be as good on Offense or Defense ...Or could they get close.

DeKalb -  Got a very hard nosed team that play as hard as any. Just don't think they get there.

York- Have a lot of respect for the coaches and team. If they had their kids that should have went there they would be close to the top. Hope they are the "sleeper " team this year.

  8. Privates have an unfair advantage just like schools that have open enrollment. Think what you want but you take players that live 50 miles away and go to school x just to win a championship , or get a better education, (wink-wink). I am not blaming parents for doing what they think is best but give me a break when a private school wants to be in with the public. Its bad enough when you have to play against teams with open enrollment and some of the best recruiters this side of Knoxville. Some of all these "great" coaches wouldn't be near as good if they had to play with just their in county players. I am now off my soap box. Just my opinion.

  9. I have watched 8 aa teams play quiet a bit this summer and Livingston is the team to beat . They have a post that does a good job around the rim and very good guards. Coach Riddle does a great job with her bench especially in the summer.

Cannon has   no choice but to be a little down.

DeKalb is very quick but very small. They have the shooters to have a few upsets

Smith has three seniors and 2 soph and very little, if any bench. They can score in bunches

York. I have a great deal of respect for those kids and coaches. They would be the team to beat in the district if they were playing with the kids that went to their jr. high and then left.

Macon could be good . They have some good athletes and they get a very good shooter back coming off an injury. Will be very good in 2 years

    Central?

  10. 1 player that will be a freshman, nothing in the current 7th grade, possibly 1 in the current 6th grade. 5th grade some possibilities, but a long, long way to go. Milan should be better this year, but it may not turn in to any more wins. Milan is several years from being competitive. Right now I do not see a program in place in the really younger grades to get competitive. With the merry-go-round of coaches, nothing can get setup. Better get started soon if they plan on being competitive within the next 10 years.

Macon county has an Eighth grader that will be good. About 6 ft . They also have a couple of 7th graders that can play. livingston has about two or three that are going to be good. (as  always). Smith has a couple of 7th graders that can play. See those girls in aau. Im sure there are a lot more than that but just havnt seen them.
