  1. The Region 5 Tournament started yesterday at Hermitage Lanes, and congrats to the Wilson Central boys for winning their first round match over Franklin with a school record 4017 score! This is the first time our boys have gone over the 4000 plateau. Chris Branner led the team with a super 764 series (269-227-268), and Spencer Harp & Kyle Hubbuch both had a 267 game and 706 series. LadyCats also advance to the Region semi's with a 26-1 win over Franklin. The girls shot 3338 to move on. Keep those scores coming, Central!
  2. The High School bowlers of Middle Tennessee have a wonderful opportunity to get some regular sport shot practice at Smyrna Bowling Center, before the TSSAA State Tournament rolls around. SBC is starting a league called the Best of the Best. It will feature: Scratch competition (no handicap), Sport Shot lane conditions, Scholarship awards, and will be a 2011 USBC Junior Gold National qualifier! Here is a link to the flyer for the league: Best of the Best Youth League There will be 3 on a team, and we have a limited number of lanes available for this league, so you will need to get signed up ASAP! Please contact General Manager Mark Hubbuch or Youth Director Kelly Marlin at Smyrna Bowling Center at (615)355-0501 to sign up or get more information. You may also contact Mark at (615)424-4387. Again, what a great opportunity for the High School bowlers of the area to get some extra sport shot competition/practice...don't miss out!!
  3. The Wilson Central Boys join the girls in a return trip to the State Tournament!! The Wildcats won over Hendersonville today 19-8, with pinfall totals 3761-3454. Congrats to Michael Whitlow, who started today for an injured player and rolled the first nine strikes enroute to a personal best 279 game! Also, hats off to H'ville bowler Chris Rittenberry, who equaled that 279 score in game 3...nice bowling, Chris! Now we have the chance to do what we were oh so close to last year...win that STATE TITLE!! Good luck to our team, and I wish the best to all of the bowlers who are bowling at State this year!!
  4. Smyrna Bowling Center will have a limited number of lanes oiled with A sport shot (NOT the one to be used in the tournament!) on two days this coming week - Sunday, Jan 24 from 6pm - 12midnight, and Wednesday, Jan 27 from 6pm - 12midnight. Again, only those individuals qualified for State should be using these lanes at the designated times. Other rules of note: *Only 10 lanes available - first come, first served...NO reservations will be accepted. *Prepay all games - price will be $2 a game for all bowlers. *NO cross-lane practice - only single lanes will be issued! *If you are by yourself, and we fill up, we will ask you to "share" and let some others bowl with you! *NO "team" practices on these lanes - ONLY individuals, please! 5. The Wilson Central Lady Wildcats are headed back to State with a 18-9 victory over a good Hendersonville squad today at Hermitage Lanes!! Pinfall totals were 3519 - 3351. Our ladies are pumped and excited to be heading back for another try at at a State Title...Way to go, LadyCats!!
  6. Yes, Scott...you are correct - thanks for catching my typo!! Still wondering if anyone knows of a higher series bowled in a high school match!?? And catsbacker, welcome back to the board and thanks for the post! I hope our girls finish off this season with a bang, and win that elusive state championship!
  7. JR Clemons was at it again yesterday...this time bowling another 299 game, along with games of 276 & 267 for an INCREDIBLE 843 series!! I know there have been 800+ series' in High School bowling, but I have not heard of one higher than this!! Does anyone else out there know?? JR rolled 30 out of 36 strikes, and his 2nd game (267) could have been higher, but he missed the 10-pin in the 10th frame after starting off that game with the front 9! JR led the Wilson Central boys to a new school-record team series with a 3936. The WC LadyCats also had a very good day, rolling a 3522 total. Our regular season is now done...on to the post-season!!
  8. I just want to congratulate the Wilson Central Lady Wildcats for their outstanding day today (11-3-09) -the team rolled games of 1275-1211-1211 for an awesome 3697 series!! These girls only broke the 1200+ game plateau last month for the first time, and now they've done it in all 3 games!! Also, congrats to JR Clemons for the WC boys, who had a near-perfect 299 game today. JR is now averaging 223 on the season. Great bowling, WC bowlers!!
  9. Wilson Central's girls & boys are headed to STATE! On Saturday, our girls defeated a very good Gallatin girls team 19-8, with pinfall totals at 3259-3058. Today in Gallatin, our boys won the closest match they've ever had, prevailing over Station Camp HS by total pins in a 13.5 - 13.5 tie! Our boys won pinfall 3475-3434. Major "hats off" to the Station Camp boys - they were fierce competitors, and stormed back into the match after being down by 196 pins the first game! It is a shame anyone had to lose this match!! This will be the WC girls 3rd straight appearance at State, and our boys FIRST time! Congrats to our teams, and good luck to all at the State Championships!!
  10. Results from Region 5 Tournament at Hermitage Lanes today: For the Boys, Nashville Overton is Region 5 champs! They defeated Wilson Central 18-9, pinfall totals Overton had 3867 to WC 3722. Both teams bowled GREAT! Hats off to Overton as Markus Betts shot 789, and Jeffrey Fernandez rolled a 757. A very good match between two good teams. I want to congratulate Seth Carey for Wilson Central, on Tuesday in the quarter-finals he bowled his first 300 game!! For the Girls, Wilson Central takes the Region 5 crown again this year, defeating Mt Juliet in the final 25-2. Pinfall totals were WC with a 3057 to MJ with a 2580. A big "Congrats" to Brennan Page, who rolled her 1st 700 series in the semi-final match with a 709! OK...now it is on to sectionals!! Good luck to everyone advancing this far!!
  11. Mike, You definitely have an idea there, but let me ask a couple of questions. What about those kids from upper East TN? They have to travel all the way to Chattanooga or Nashville just to have a chance to qualify? And unless your proposed sectional level is done on a sport shot, aren't there going to be cries of "home field advantage" just like Smyrna gets on the team-level now? Finally, I really like the majority qualifying for individual state based on an entire season's worth of scores, not just 4 games! Have a bad day that day, and you are out! I really like an idea that combines our current system, but maybe adds on wild-cards in the form of top averages that haven't qualified, and/or a tournament for these bowlers, but not for all. Hope I didn't shoot too many holes!! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  12. dixie I don't believe you would really want to do this. Most bowlers, coaches, and parents who are in the "bowling industry" or very closely connected to it (you may be one!) know that there are only a certain number of centers around the state that support HS bowling enough to put out a really good lane condition for the kids. And like it or not, this definitely has an effect on how high the averages are! If TSSAA did take only the top 64 averages, then a few teams would have most if not all of their starters qualify, and then some of the smaller districts or regions in rural areas that may not have the easiest lane conditions wouldn't stand a chance! And many of these kids could average much higher if bowling on the easy conditions that others have. Again, I would love to see more of the top kids advance, but I'm really not sure how you could go about it any differently than it is already being done. By the way...I really like your posts on here - you are like MOST of us who come on here - supporting and wishing the best for the KIDS, because that is what its all about!!
  13. I agree with you that there should be some way to include more bowlers from Districts or Regions where there are LOTS of strong bowlers. But where do you draw the line? Also, some bowlers roll a majority of their games in centers where there are very good lane conditions all of the time, while others may bowl on very tough conditions most if not all of the time. So that would have to be a consideration as well. I certainly don't have the answers, but it does seem unfair that a 200+ average bowler of any kind be left out, yet someone with a 150 or lower average can make it. We'll see what others have to say!
  14. Sorry for the delay...but here are the results from District 10 finals today: Wilson Central and Mount Juliet played both finals today for boys AND girls, and Wilson Central's teams win both matches for District 10 titles! On the boys side, WC d. MJ 19.5 - 7.5, with pinfall totals WC 3875 & MJ 3585. A very strong, strike-filled game 1 saw WC win 3.5 of the 6 ind. points, and take the total 1396 - 1325!! The 1396 is a WC school-record score for boys! WC followed in game 2 with a nice 1295, and with the match pretty well in hand, finished with a 1184 game 3. The LadyCats also won big in school-record fashion, defeating MJ 23 - 4 with an awesome 3431 series!! Great bowling, and congrats to both of these schools for moving on to the Regions next week! Now all of you can "fill in the blanks" on your District results sheet! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. District 10 Tournament started yesterday...9 teams total...tournament runs through Friday's finals. Wilson Central's boys & girls teams are #1 seed for tournament, will play in finals on Friday. Congratulations to Chase Hayes of Antioch HS for bowling a perfect 300 game in the tourney yesterday!! We will update District 10 after Thursday's semi-finals.
  16. Congrats, Markus Betts!! 815 is an awesome score...keep up the great bowling!!
  17. JR's current average is 213, and we are a little over 1/2 way thru the district schedule in District 10. Anyone wishing to check out how Wilson Central is doing, please visit our website at www.eteamz.com/wchsbowling Please sign our guestbook when you visit...we'd love to hear from you! (And wouldn't it be nice if all teams had a website to visit!)
  18. Just wanted to come on here to give props to Wilson Central bowler JR Clemons, who bowled his first 300 last Thursday at Hermitage Lanes! JR also shot 815 series, on games of 236-279-300, and he finished with the last 22 strikes in-a-row! Way to go, JR ... keep practicing and I know you will do well at state!
