  1. Baylor will win for sure. Mus is down a lot this year even losing to a Memphis public school ridgeway. Baylor has Ryan Parker who is one of the best players in the state and they have a pretty good power running attack by using the qb and parker. Even though its hard to win in Memphis in the playoffs, I think Baylor does and most likely sets up rematch with BA in semi's. score prediction: Baylor 28 MUS 14

History is not in Baylor's favor when they play at MUS.  MUS' defense is solid.  They only gave up 1 TD each to Ridgeway and CBHS that didn't result from TOs.  I don't think they give up 28 points.  But TOs will play a big part.  MUS can not make mistakes and win. Their junior QB is hot and cold, very inconsistent and has a tendency to throw off balance when he is dropping back.  Does throw rather well when running laterally, especially across his body, of all things. MUS has a player (Hart) in the same mold as Parker.  He missed 5 games due to a high ankle sprain.  How big an impact he has will be critical for MUS' chances.

  2. This is MUS' worst team since 2006.  Still, they're not bad.  In fact, they're pretty good when they don't commit turn overs.  In their 3 losses, they commited 12 TOs.   They are capable of beating Baylor and any other DII team except probably BA,  IFF they don't commit TOs.

  3. Thats hyperbole fella. Good athlete and basketball player. Better arm talent left the school years ago because of the "connections" JO had in the school.

His flair in basketball draws attention to himself sometimes.

He has less talent than Knox did and isnt skilled enough to play at an SEC school unless he improves a ton.

Wow!  Sounds like you have axe to grind.

I never said he was comparable to much less better than any former players.

I retract my statement.  He's not a special athlete.  He's just been lucky and made to look good by everybody around him.  He won't even be nominated for Mr Football.  Chandler wins in a landslide.  Feel  better?

BTW, where did your son end up playing after he left BA?

  4. I have to say, of all the great athletes that have walked the halls of BA, I'm not sure if when its all said and done that Oatsvall won't be at or near the top of the list...football and basketball. That guy is just unreal. Credit to him and the BA receivers who just kept making plays all game long. Every time MBA had a favorable down/distance they converted. Man can this BA team put up points quickly.

Great atmosphere at BA slightly dampened by rainy conditions. Still great setting for a great rivalry.

Proud of MBA and the kids for fighting until the end. Last year was a great year and next year could be another great year. Will build on nights like this one.

Oatsvall is definitely a special athlete and a probable Mr Football winner

  5. BA has been the best team by far on paper all year.  Now they are proving it on the field.

MBA is one dimensional (Chandler) and has been over rated all year.  They have played a weak schedule and weren't prepared to play a top caliber team tonight.  I would not be surprised to see them lose to Baylor and possibly even Ensworth, who is getting better every week and always has RB at the helm.

The race is for the silver ball, and it's a tossup.  CBHS and MUS will be in the mix and, from what  I have seen, may be favored over anybody in Middle/East.  Won't know who's the best in the West until the final game this month.  IF MUS is healthy and especially has Tim Hart playing again - he's been out since Sept 4 - MUS is slightly better on balance.

  6. I've not brought up the award. I'm sure Mitchell will win it, but that don't mean he's the best WR in the state. Like I said, there is a good reason why the nations experts have Higgins ranked 200 spots better than Mitchell.

You just don't get it, do you?  Despite repetitive efforts by KWC to enlighten you.  I'll try.

This blog is about the Mr Football award.  It is awarded based largely on PERFORMANCE on the field, which is reflected objectively by STATS.  If you win the award, It does NOT necessarily mean you are the "best" at your position.   It has nothing to do with who runs the best routes, is ranked higher in whatever recruiting service, has more college offers or has more potential at the next level.  It does not predict success at the college or pro level.  Many former winners have been busts at the college level.

Being named Mr Fottball means you were deemed to have had the most outstanding performance during the regular season.  Dillon Mitchell has put up some ridiculous numbers in only 5 games.  They have been posted above.  And the second half of White Station's season is not as competitive.  Barring injury, it is incomprehensible that somebody else will have stats comparable to his.  But we're waiting to hear some stats from fans about a player who might be competitive. Opinions are a dime a dozen.   BTW, I am a Memphian, have seen  DM play, but like KWC have no connection to his school or team.

  7. I do believe Mr. Hurd has more than proven he is/was the best out of those 3 players and deserved the award. Mitchell has the better stats because of the offense he plays in, but I'm not even sure he's the best WR in the state right now pound for pound. I think Higgins may have something to say about that, and he is a year younger too.

"The young man at Beech had an even more impressive year than the RB at Whitehaven...."

    It's called CONTEXT.    Duh.

It's perfectly fine to support your boy Higgins but trust me (and MANY others) Mitchell is a PHENOM and NOBODY will touch him for Mr. Football.  Even if you knew nothing else, DM signed with OREGON as a JUNIOR.  He scores in every possible way. and often.  The posted videos will give you an idea of his talent, but it is even more apparent seeing it in person.

  8. This will be the last time I respond to your idiotic ranking because it it obvious you are clueless.

Baylor and McCallie would annihilate Harding, Lausanne and Northpoint (formerly SBEC).  the difference between IIAA and IIA is comparable to the SEC relative to the AAC.  The better IIA teams would be competitive with Father Ryan and probably Briarcrest, but would be run over by MBA, BA, MUS, Baylor, McCallie, CBHS and probably even EHS despite their drop this year.

  9. The same administration that's been there for years and now they have found a coach with no character that will do what they say no matter how classless it is....just shows the type of people there and what they feel towards Whitehaven. ... they didn't do that with the other 2 teams that beat the crap out of them !!! Lol....Like I said, us Whitehaven folk know the deal!!! Enough said

Ever wonder why G'Town doesn't play MUS?  A historical and neighborhood rival that is located just a 5 minute drive away?  That same gutless administration.  About 12 years ago the star of their 8th grade team was advised by the middle school principal to transfer to MUS to meet his special educational needs.  His father could easily afford it, he transfered in the 9th grade, but was forced to sit out and thus lose a playing year because that same administration would not give him an academic release.  Of course, they claimed he was "recruited" away from them and did this only for punitive reasons as G'town already had stopped playing MUS.  The boy's father was irate and later enrolled both his younger sons at MUS in the 7th grade and wrote off the G'town schools entirely.

  10. CBHS could not slow down much less stop LaSalle senior Jeremy Larkin.  This Cincinnati recruit was a one man wrecking crew.  Before sitting, he scored 6 TDs, 4 rushing, 2 receiving, and amassed close to 500 yds offense.  Four of his TDs went for over 70 yds.  There was a "running clock" for much of the 2nd half.  Final score 49-14.  LaSalle is a top 20 team nationally....

  11. Agreed!  I hope CBHS plays great and represents TN well!  As long as they stay injury-free, this test will help them in the long run.

I'm also impressed by MUS scheduling the top team in Mississippi this week.  Kudos to the Memphis D2 teams!!!

South Panola has been on the MUS schedule since 2008.  Unfortunately, MUS has been forced to do a lot of travelling in order to fill their schedule.  None of the local IIA teams will play them.  Local public school teams, especially the better programs in 5A or 6A, sometimes have few openings and/or have ducked MUS due to the TSSAA rule counting all losses against them when determining playoff eligibility/seeding.  However, Ridgeway, a top 4A school and located across the street from MUS, will play MUS next Saturday.  For quite a few years,  MUS has been playing 3 OOS games each year, mostly in Missisippi.  In addition to USP, they play Olive Branch MS, once a great program, every year.

  12. I'm the last person that would play the race card but almost sounds like Germantown harbors a grudge against losing to a program whose neighborhood is majority African-American

While Germantown is certainly a majority white area, I would not be surprised if the football team were majority black, especially the starters.  Thus your race-based speculation is specious.

  13. McCallie had at least three holding penalties called against them - not one, a block in the back, and an illegal touch on an otherwise successful two-point try.  McCallie had a valid interception ruled incomplete. McCallie had a fumble clearly caused by the ground ruled a fumble. McCallie had at least 5 motion calls made against them.

I was AT the game and the officiating was terrible, but it was NOT one-sided in the least.  The motion call made against MBA at the goal line was motion...we all saw it.

The box score shows MBA with 9 penalties for 73 yards and McCallie with 10 penalties for 84 yards.

MBA was fortunate to escape.  Enjoy the win.

The comment I'm about to make has nothing to do with the MBA-McCallie game.  It is a general statement about officiating.

Fans like to quote stats about who had how many penalties for how many yards, as was done here.  That is only half the story.  What the officials miss, ovelook or disregard is just as important and won't show up in any stats.

That is what happened in the MUS game at S Panola last night.  There were a number of blatant infractions against USP that simply were not called for whatever reason.  As I mentioned in that game blog, I don't think it ultimatly affected the game because miraculously MUS was pretty much able to overcome the immediate negtive effect of the non-call in each case.

MUS does not use students, who often have rudimentary knowledge about the game and thus can make ridiculous claims on air.   MUS' broadcast crew are all former players/coaches who have a vast experience and deep knowledge of the game and its rules.  Watching the game while listening to the analysis of Barry Ray is akin to attending an advanced class on football.

Last night he was reduced from simple disbelief to incredulity then simply laughing off the officials' "missing" blatant infractions by USP.  Such as one time when they had 2 backs in motion at the same time run right in front of the backfield judge.

Its's an unfortunate situation.  Perhaps there are simply so many teams playing so many games that it's getting almost impossible to put together a competent crew.

  14. just in case anybody in Middle/East TN gives a hoot....USP 49 MUS 28.  Was 28-21 at halftime. MUS was ahead 14-7 3 minutes into the 2nd quarter.  USP didn't have a 1st down.  Then they switched to the wildcat run by a 5 star stud (name?) and never looked back.

USP returned the opening KO 91 yds for a TD.  MUS' talented but inexperienced junior QB Stephen Regis was forced to throw 50+  passes - a school record - but 5 of them were intercepted, 2 after bouncing off the receiver's hands.  Four of the picks led to 28 points.  That's pretty much the game in a nutshell.  Of note was an embarassinlgy inept officiating crew, guilty of home cooking for the first time in this series, but they had zero effect on the score or outcome.

  15. 2 of the top teams in Div II.  This matchup will go a long way in determing the Div II champion.  One of these two teams or MBA will win the title.  I'm personally pulling for the boys on the river.

Virtually every year, posters outside W TN don't include MUS in the discussion.  It's always the champ will come from  EHS, MBA, BA, Baylor and even McCallie.  I would remind the writer that MUS has played in 6 of the last 11 championship games and won 4 of them, and almost a 5th over the Evil Empire 2 years ago if it ween't for a complete meltdown of the 2 Owl QBs after 3 quarters.

  16. Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I'm still pullin' for the owls though.

I too of course will be pulling for the Owls.  I just won't be betting on them.  Hopefully Hart will be back and efective by the time they play CBHS.  After tonight, they should be all right without him until then.  He will be a difference maker in the playoffs if he's healthy.  He is almost certain to be a Mr Football finalist if he's playing.

  17. That is true that Baylor played two weak teams in Red Bank and Howard....I believe McCallie just played the same weak Red Bank last week. But don't forget that Baylor went on the road to beat Ensworth last week. Ensworth's first home loss in 5 years. This should be a whale of a game. But I give the edge to Baylor. That was a huge win and I think the momentum carries over.

Don't forget that Memphis Trezevant, a 2A puiblic school, also won at Ensworth last week.  Ensworth is really down this year.  Beating them doesn't tell us much.
