North vs South. Who takes it this year? Thoughts?
South wins the Civil War. Coach Garvin takes no prisoners.

Is there a kid on the Marshall County team named Gold. Is he expected to play any? I think he should be a sophomore this year and either a WR/QB?
I may drive down from Kingsport for the Giles Co. game. Will it be a blow out? Relatives of mine from both Pulaski and Lewisburg.

I'm making the trip to J Fred tonight. Excited for several reasons:
1) to participate in the checkerboard of the stadium
2) to see the DB band
3) to help tear down the goalposts
4) to see Stars' truck and ride down Broad St. with him and Momma
It should be a great night in Kingsport for this ole Southern Bell Ringer!

I saw South vs Boone, and this may be the worst South team that I have seen in a long time. Sorry Rebels, that's just the way it is. South had a few bad breaks and I think they will improve to be around .500 this year but that's about it.
And by the way, the newspaper wrote it up as if Boone is so great now but I'm not convinced of that either. Yeah Boone had a few good plays but there were still a lot of mistakes and mediocrity.
Ok so now on to the subject at hand... South has a very stout defensive front, so if TH insists on running in between the tackles it is going to be tough going all night. I saw where TH completed only 2 passes against DB so for the Vikes to have a shot that has to improve. Boone shredded South's secondary at times so if I was the Vikes I would get the film and watch those plays carefully. This one seems pretty even to me so I'll predict something along the lines of 20-17
But which team wins b1s?

If the snap is executed properly that kid can hit it anywhere inside the 30 for sure
yes, I was referring to execution of the snap and hold. The PKer looked like he had plenty of leg.
-
Vikings have nowhere to go but up. Very disappointing start to the season. Vikes continue to lay the ball on the ground just like they did in every scrimmage. I do see the Vikes getting their first win but only because South seems to be worse than they are. Vikes go for 2.
Vikes 8
Rebels 7
I like this, but Vikes will not need to go for 2. Vikes 7 Rebs 6

Boone's QB was very impressive. They have a chance to be balanced on offense especially if they'll mix up their formations a little more and not show run all the time from those power I sets. They can have a good season. Congrats on the win Blazers.
South's defensive front played well. Secondary is young and will need to learn quickly. The offense is going to be very limited. I hope they spend more time on special teams play. Every phase was below average in execution. If you're lacking in team talent, you simply cannot give up big plays on special teams.

Openers don't define the season, but they sure set the tone. If either of these programs have any hope of making the playoffs this year, they'll have to win this one. It will be an uphill battle to salvage anything respectable for the loser.
I've always believed scrimmaging up will prepare a team better for the season, provided there aren't a rash of injuries and the kids don't get too discouraged. If that's indeed the case, advantage to Boone for going against Greenies.

Eye've allreddy ben werkin' on hit cd.....Eye thank eye've hit on sumthin'....
Very nice, but those folks in Kingsport are going to hit you with a wheel tax.

I'm coming to the Eastman Big House for the Red Rebels game. Hoping Stars has a cherry picker mounted on his garbage truck so we can see from the other side. I'm sure those seats up top are too expensive for me. City taxes are keeping me broke.

Can't remember a South/Boone game when South did not run back a kickoff for a score.
That is so demoralizing to the players and fans.
How about this time we spot you a 7-0 lead to start the game but then you have to take the ball at the 20 instead of getting a kickoff?
i don't believe CJJ would let you negotiate for him, blazer. No offense intended!
But the Rebels would be overjoyed to take the points and start at the 20 the one time the Blazers kick off.

crawdad....Whur ewe ben man...???.....
haha...I got caught behind Momma Stars at the concession stand

Rebels will have a tough time containing that Turner kid. He is a beast. Hopefully they will try to run away from him.

This one unfolded pretty much like I expected. I was really proud of South's effort. If they could have punched it in before the half or on the first possession of the second half it might have been down to the wire.
I think both teams have the potential to improve as the season progresses and make some noise come playoffs. Special teams battle probably went to the Rebels. Vikings punter was excellent on the first directional at 42 yds. with no return, out of bounds. Then for the remainder of the game everything was shanked. I was so surprised they were that deficient in punt and kick coverage. Need that shored up. South should have made that chip shot FG early and had the one long punt return against them in 2nd half , but otherwise pretty solid.
Secondary speed was a liability for the Rebels against a team like Tennessee High. If you stunt the LB out of the play, your team is vulnerable to giving up the home run which happened at least once last night, perhaps more.
Vikings need to keep working on the passing game to get a little balance. I would have come back to the same play or similar play that was overthrown in back of endzone for TD when backed up with more field to use shortly after missing it the first time. South showed a pretty good passing game developing with QB snapping off some good throws in the 20 yd. range. I'd like to see them keep developing the big TE #10 in the passing game.
Good luck to the Vikings on a successful season. Go Rebels!

First to score will lose like the past 5 years or so
Doubt it makes a difference in this one. I'm fearful Bristol's speed will be too much for the Rebels. South needs to manage the kicking game, play zone pass defense and force some turnovers to have a chance.
-
Aren't there any South fans out on CoachT anymore??
haha...called out by ole Cap once again. How are you friend.? Hope you're planning on making the trip down to Death Valley. I believe it will be a game you will enjoy on two counts: 1) the Rebel rags have pretty much been shelved 2) the Vikings should roll
Rebels best chance to keep it close will be to shorten the game with the running game and try to grind out a few first downs and play field postition. Their downfield passing game is nowhere near what it has been for each of the last 10 years.
Defensively they are tough against the run but suspect in pass defense.
I would expect a close game for the first half and then Tennessee High pulling away in the second half. I'd see a punt or K/O return for TD in that surge. 27-7 Vikes.

I base this on watching several scrimmages and the jamboree which they beat Morristown West 7-0. Even if it was a jamboree a win over the 10th rank team in 5A in a 12 minute quarter is not too shabby. Boone has better speed this year compared to last and is throwing the ball much better. Both lines are strong, secondary is improved but linebackers are a question mark.
South's secondary is really green. If Boone is throwing it better, this one could be very close. I believe it will be a low scoring game and the first to score wins it.

WELL WELL SULLY IT'S OVER ---- HOPE U ENJOY GETTIN IT HANDED TO YA!

The witching hour, well in hand and creeping ominously through the land
inspires the wretched train of doom to settle in its rest of gloom.
That wretched train that all know well seeks dark inheritance much overdue,
As fate would rest on this cold wintry eve, in the land of Greene now turned soot black with cries of grieve.
For it is said, and all know well, its wintry curse by sound of bell,
Said clanging bell of midnight grieve is handed down to those who grieve.
Ahh grief it shall be to those who must feast this night on the wretched curse, said bird of doom on the Black Devil Train as it travels in darkness to the land of Greene.
So feast on failure in the land of Greene for the putred bird turned Black from greene, is your prize posession and rightfully so, as failure you endure for a year to go.
Haha...Comp has been waiting a while to resurrect the devil train. Nice work unleashing the "Poe"tic juices Comp. I know a Rebel victory over the Greenies on a blustery eve was salve albeit for a wound that never heals. South / Greeneville is one of those rivalries that makes high school football endearing for passionate fans. Both teams are to be congratulated on outstanding seasons and an entertaining all-out performance last night.
-
Weather is going to be a big factor in this one. South may have trouble throwing the ball. I wonder if the QB has practiced throwing with a glove on?
Kick offs and punts will be shorter and erratic, so aggressive returns could result in big plays.
The team that can rely on a solid running game is going to win a low scoring game.
There haven't been many high school games played in Tennessee with temps below freezing.

Not even close? Please go over and pick DB and I'll have a Happy Halloween.

If I looked at the new and old seating chart I got in the mail today correctly.A lot of seats along the end of rolls and a couple of rolls at the top were lost for hand rails and the upperdeck.Looking at the old lower side on the far right. It shows that the bottom 4 rolls were taken from general admission and 6 rolls above that were taken from the season ticket holders and will become the student seats.Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong. It might not be a large jump from 35 to 40 dollars on the old seats for season tickets and 2 to 3 times more for the new seats, but if they are not careful,a lot of fans will " tune in ".you can go on the dobyns bennett web page and see the seating
That place is going to be huge. There will be rolls and rolls of rows. Everyone gets a seat and a free roll for their restroom break at half time.
Keep posting Batman. You're the best !
