  1. Perry Co. has 2 really good players in Grimes and Qualls. They are always tough outs. They are deep at the pitchers position and should be a tough out in the tournament. They must limit their errors to be the top team. Cwood in drivers seat, but still a few bumps in the road ahead.

  2. Tip my hat to TCA.Have some fine shooters, were hitting 3's from beyond NBA range.a very good and loud crowd.Lake Co missed a lot of easy baskets.Dont remember Rafael hitting any 3 pointers and he missed several shots from within 10 feet. But he also made some big ones when LC needed them.I think LC had about 3 or 4 baskets wiped off the board by the officials.Swift had 2 or 3 layups under the basket but the officials seem to think he leaned in.I thought the officials took control of the game early with Swift getting some early fouls,Coleman and Devon Jones sat a lot from foul trouble.TCA had a couple players with some early fouls as well.I like officials that let teams play this time of year.Late in the game,Lake Co had about a 7 point lead and the ball with a couple minutes left and turned the ball over or missed free throws.Had one shot from 7 feet beyond the three point line that we didnt need to take with that lead. Also are going to have to realize if it's late in the game, who is going to be the ball handlers and the player that Lake Co wants to send to the line.I know Rafael turned the ball over at a crucial time that led TCA to tie the game but I'd rather him have the ball in his hands or Zay and have Rafael at the line .But c redit TCA.Dont think they ever led the entire game but they never quit.Have some shooters and a great crowd.

Yall should have had the officials at PC. Call absoutely nothing. Fouls or walks. Luckly PC got away with 5-6 walks for baskets. Then yoo never know what you will get at the State Tourney. Congrats on the big win. See yall at Murphy

  3. I started the thread so guess time to chime in!! I am liking the posts so far about the teams. THis allows us that don't get to see everybody a chance to hear about the teams from other areas. My picks as Favorites Listed Alpabetically not by who I think is strongest: Booker T Washington, Lake County and Perry County. Reasoning Atleticism and Experience. Booker T Washington will be the most athletic team at the state tourney in single A, got to see them in person and they have a superstar in Martavious Newby. They can get up and down the floor with anybody and are long which makes them difficult to handle. Lake Co. a close second in athleticism to BTW and have 4 of 5 starters back from last year's state title team., Also have 3 other players who played big minutes in last year's title run so they will not be in awe of the environment. Perry County has good athletes in Tucker, Rhodes and company. Have experience of being in the final 4 last year so they will nmot be rattled by environment either. THese 3 have to be the top teir going in for those reasons. On the verge: My next group are the ones I feel could pull an upset and break into the championship game, again alphabetically: Friendship Christian, Grace Baptist and Wartburg. Friendship,: mainly going off the impressive thumping they put on CSAS. I know the Patriots lost alot but they have talent judging by the sccore FCS dismantled them. Watchout. Grace, a Chattanooga private school. Traditionally these teams, (Temple, CCS, Grace) have faired well in tha boro. They will play solid ball and be a tough out. Wartburg, great player in Fountain. So they have that dude that can put them on his back when needed. Finally the Nobody watching us group: McEwen and Cloudland. Would say most people count these two as long shots to win it, No offense, but both are solid teams. You don't get here and not be. I remind people all the time you never know because my Falcons were not even on the tourney radar last year before it started. Good luck to all

With this year's format(back to back to back nights), I think the team that has the most depth or is in the best condition will have the edge. BTW's athletism may win out though. I like the way Friendship is playing through the tournaments, Wartbug can't be counted out with a Mr.BB canidate, McEwen and PC are evenly matched and then there's good ole Lake Co. that knew how to take care of business last year. Good records for all teams with 2 good teams humbolt and Trinity that probably deserve to be there

  4. Good grief I'm sick of reading what player is better and whose the weak link! Everyone Pc puts on the floor is a fine ball player and brings something different to the team. I think that is what makes Pc so good as that the coach can use a variety in his rotation to get different talents on the floor. Stop with it already and move on to sub state.

:thumb: what's up with all this. Just someone from another jealous school trying to stir up trouble. These guys seem to all play well together. When one is down another picks up the pace. If we get the offense clicking, better watch out.

  5. First of all congrats to Pc on the Region Championship!! Way to get after it out there... I think everyone is pretty ticked over the all region team! I couldn't help but laugh it was a joke. How does the runner up get 3 players on the team and wayne co get 2 when the Champion only gets 2? Pc had a bare minimum of 3 players deserving and could without question make a case for all of the starting 5. Garrett Hill was the motor of the machine during the entire tournament with his relentless D. Taylor Dill stepped up huge playing more aggressively on offense while continuing his stellar defensive play. Gilboy grabbed big board after big board and had some crucial put backs all tournament long. Congrats to Jacob and Cannon for making the team and to you other guys you may not get a trophy for it but everyone in Pc is well aware of your level of play all tournament long!

Agree totally. This is why this should be done away with. PC always gets the shaft. I know if I had the first 3 picks, who I would choose and they would all be from PC, but hopefully they are all concerned with the big gold ball instead of a little man on a wooden base.

  6. Yea stinks for Tucker that he got invited to play in the East West game and missed a few games.. Wait no.. that was a great honor for him.. I doubt it was that. Politics politics.. but the thing is, Tucker is a competitor and plays to win games, not individual awards. Everyone who knows basketball and is not extremely biased knows that Tucker is the best player in the dist. And i will say again, Chard and Rhodes were not even the best on their own teams(Rhodes is the best 3pt shooter/Chard is just a solid player). However, ppg. isnt all to be looked at for MVP. Important but not everything.

Politics? Could someone please explain what politics went on. If we're talking just averages, I thought Rhodes deserved it last year, he did lead the district in scoring avg. If you want averages for this year, compare these:

    Tucker 17.5ppg; 5.2rpg

    Rhodes 17.1ppg; 7.8rpg

    Chard 15.3ppg; 5.8rpg

Rhodes and Tucker both create a lot of scoring opportunities for each other and make great teammates.

Tucker's defense this year has been suspect and Rhodes is a much better defender than anyone wants to give him credit for. Without Rhodes, Tucker gets doubled and is not as effective; without Tucker, the same holds true for Rhodes. Both are completely different players; one is finesse and the other is a bull. If this were a game of one on one, I would go with Tucker, but its a team sport. Can you folks just get off Rhodes and go on to something else. All 3 of these guys are class acts. We have heard your opinion for like the 4th time now. The Coaches have spoken but maybe they will agree to a "do over", in which Mathis from WC might get it.

  7. Apparently you care, you've been pretty defensive over it.

mainly from the negativity over these 2 MVP's. They just go out and play the game and the COACHES decide on the best player in the district. Coaches see things differently from us and make their decision based on that. I think everyone on here is pretty arrogrant by indirectly saying the coaches don't know what they are talking about.

  8. If I am reading this right, Jordan Chard and Cannon Rhodes are co mvps? In my opinion, should have been Tucker...all district team should include the following

    PERRY CO-Rhodes, Hill

    WAYNE CO-Rice, Mathis

    SUMMERTOWN-Chard, Allen

    COLLINWOOD-Pigg, Butler, Montgomery

    LORETTO-Clifft

    MVP-Tucker

    [/quot

Not how the coaches saw it. It's not a popularity contest. It's performance throughout the entire season and I guess Tucker missed too many games early even though he would have been well deserving too. But really, who cares. That's why I'm personally against this award. Too much controversy and means absolutely nothing. But still 2 fine young men.

  9. Well, if there was a tourney MVP, I'm pretty sure we all know who that would be...23 pts in the semis vs Stown and 24 (6 threes) in the finals....all while also guarding the opposing team's main scoring threat (held MVP Chard to 6 and MVP Rhodes to 10)...this kid is so athletic...Mr Peyton Mathis! And when he hit that buzzer beater last night, did anyone else have flashbacks of the Rice to Mathis 60+ yard pass play against Huntingdon and ensuing "leave you in your tracks" move he made to score the winning TD?? And he's getting a golf scholarship! Congrats Peyton on an outstanding athletic career at WCHS...we just hope you've got a few more tricks up your sleeve!!

Peyton is a great kid. Where is he headed to play golf?

  10. I was absolutely stunned at the MVP selection. I think coaches pick, but I'm like you, just not sure. They need to get some things corrected because there's no reason for co-Mvps, in my opinion. Especially when it shouldn't have been close with the best player not even being one of them. They gave themselves two chances to get it right, and ended up wrong twice.

Obviously you know much more than the coaches that these kids play against and have to formulate game plans to defend against. 2 well deserving young men. Congrats Jordan and Cannon. I do know that both these kids would trade an MVP for a championship anyday.

  11. This is all in fun and I know that Pc has the talent to maybe bring home the Gold Ball.kNOW IT ONLY TAKES 1 GOOD TEAM EVEN IF IT IS A TEAM FROM A WEAKER DISTRICT.Dont think they can run with Lake Co but maybe a zone and if Lake Co isnt hitting, could win.But based on both teams schedule and even Guru has admitted that Lake Co has played the tougher schedule ,THE VOTERS HAVING lAKE CO AT #8 IS SICK.Could maybe see BTW,Perry Co and Lake Co in the top 3 spots and realize that the voters just go by losses, which is the only way they can do it since they cant see all the teams. But they should be smart enough to figure out even if a team loses to a Double a ranked team in over time, split with another top Double A team team. And have played the same two teams that Pc has played and Lc beat both of them and one of them very handidly by 40 points. Then i would think they would be smart enough to know Lc is better than 8th ,whether it's lost 7 games or not.Just use some commom sense even if you cant watch some teams play.Even if it wasn't Lake Co and instead McEwen was the team playing Liberty and lost in overtime.Or McEwen split with southsise. Why would the voters drop them? Were they suppose to win?Would any other Single a teams have been able to have won?Same if McEwen had 7 losses and PC had 3.If McEwen played 5 Double A or Triple A teams and barely lost but played the same team that PC played and won handidly and PC struggle.Doubt as a voter that I'd have PC ranked ahead of them even if they did have more losses. It's called knowing basketball and Common Sense.

Not even close this year. 14A. 12A actually stronger last year with PC, Summetown and Wayne Co all deserving at least a sub state birth. Luckly PC pulled out an upset and nobody could have beat Summertown playing in their condemed barn.

  12. Did yall know that Lake co has actually played two teams that Pc has played.Waverly and Hickman co.PC split with Waverly and Lake Co won over Waverly. But also Hickman.Bet the voters are going to be very impressed with that win over a team that has won just two games.PC beat Hickman co 79-74.Lake Co beat Hickman co about 91-50 and played everybody.PC will move up to number 1 with that victory over Hickman co.I guess Dist 12A is the only place in the Stste that THINKS they ghave a tougher schedule than the Kentucky Wildcats.Everyone get down and bow to PC when they enter the gym.and Kitty Cat acts like he has a life but doesnt because all he can do is go watch a PC team that scored about 29 points in one game and barely beat a 2 win team.Yet he thinks they are great and goes to watch that mess.Get a life Kitty Cat.

Let me put this to rest. PC is NOT a top 5 team right now (even thought Tucker is a beast as of late) Haven't seen BTW or Middleton play, but fairly sure that LC beats PC by 15. LC guard play is too good for PC to control. Here's my thoughts right now: LC & BTW in a league of their own, then u can take your pick from there. Trinity, Westwood, Middletotn, Union City, McEwen, Mt.Pleasant, PC in no particular order. On any night anyone could win.

  13. The keys to PC in my opinion will be the guard play and keeping Tucker and Gilboy out of foul trouble. They have a ton of speed (at least they are quicker than most teams in midle tenn). I think if a team can slow it down on them and make them play a half court game like Cwood did in the district tourny last year, that team can be successful....Stown has a big kid that can handle Gilboy but I dont know if they have anyone to match up with Tucker....I would say Stown could hang with them in a half court game, maybe Cwood, but I fully expect PC to run the tables in the district. Region-wise, I think maybe Mt Pleasant can give them a game...

We beat a very good Jackson Christian team with 3 guys over 6'4" without Tucker and with Gilboy on the bench most of the night in foul trouble. The new kid Churchwell came in and played very well. Gilboy wasnt much of a factor last night, but expect him to have some big games. Edney very long and gives people trouble with his defense and can also shoot it. Hill, Rhodes and Dill will be role players behind Tucker and Gilboy. We should go 8-9 deep this year.

  14. Thanks Swoosh but I know Perry Co has a lot coming back,Humboldt has 4 starters back i believe, plus as we both know, yall beat Clarksville Ac. that everyone had winning..then Lake Co beat Westwood, with just about all their starters returning from a State tournament team and also CSAS,who had most back from a State runnerup team.So ,just never know on a particular night ,especially against teams in the region finals ,sub-state.Just getting there is hard.Plus ,word is BTW is dropping down from AA.But even if they do.Lake Co has proven that they can play against top calibre teams with yall beating Clarksville Ac and Lake Co winning against the teams they beat. And some of those teams we beat had beaten some of the AA State tournament teams.Plus we'll both be a year older and stronger and hopefully a little faster. But still..it's started to be a little fun between Perry Co and Lake Co in football and basketball.Hopefully it'll continue.

Lord, I hope yall don't get much faster..lol(you'll have to get a high speed camera). Will those guys play football next year?

Can't believe some of those teams are moving down to class A. Just don't seem right, but we'll take them on too. What a great year being able to watch these guys compete in both football and basketball. At one point, I couldnt tell where football left off and basketball started.

Just think when we all started talking smack in FB, we didnt realize that it would carry over to BB

A great entire sports year for both teams. Hope we can repeat next year. Enjoy the Championship, I know it means a great deal to the community.

  15. The main thing I noticed, especially after going back and watching the replay, was the charging calls. Somethng has to be done about the charging calls. Time and again, players are falling before contact, and at the last second sliding over in front of the driver is out of hand. Protection needs to be for the offense. Defensive techniques (hand checking, holding, bumping) has nearly ruined the game. Give the advantage back to the offense. People like to see points on the board not a hockey match.

  16. Lake Co. is blowing out the Middleton team that put Perry Co. out of the tourney.....

Hey Moron...don't know why you're on here bashing PC, but on any given night, any of these teams could have beaten the other. Lake Co. won and congratulations to them, but if they laced it up next week, I bet it would be a totally different outcome. Quit your bashing just becacuse the Vols got humiliated yesterday.

Just for your information, PC split with LC this year and that loss was without a starter.

Keep talking because you are really looking like a FOOL.

  17. Final Rankings: For teams at tournament only

    1. Lake Co. (got on a roll at the right time and possibly could win next year also)(if their ptgard is ok)

    2. CSAS (maybe the best team..wasn't prepared for the opening round against LC.)

    3. Middleton (good defensively)

    4. Perry Co. (got caught on a poor shooting night or would be in finals. Only loose 1 starter next yr.)

    4. Hampton (really good team that had an off day against Lake Co.)

    6. Summertown (suffered through a poor shooting performance in opening game)

    7. Cloudland (very solid team and high Basketball IQ

    8. Clay Co. (good team but just not the caliber of the others)

Of course I'm leaving out Humbolt, Union City, Memphis Westwood, Clarksville Acad., McEwen that failed to make it.

Then give it another a week and you could come up with something different.

  18. What???? the mighty, unbeatable Perry Co. team got beat by Middleton? I just cant believe it...there must have been an error made somewhere....lol

Congrats Middleton....Now, it's an all W. TN championship game...

    How bout dem Vols today!!!

    Middleton very lucky that PC had off shooting night,but that's how it goes;

Nobody said they were unbeatable anyway.
