I am sure Coach Morris and his team would love to have another crack at Alcoa. So they need to stay focused and take it one game at a time.

I think Milan should win this one. They may not be tested really until the Quarterfinals or the Semis.

The biggest problem is that there are not a large number of African-American men or women teaching in the secondary schools. Outside of Metro and Memphis, there are not that many teaching. I have a friend who is African-American, and he wants to work in Metro while I have tried to get him to apply in Rutherford County. He wants to work in Metro to help kids like he was when he was at Antioch.

Anyway, I respect Rankin for what he has accomplished 6 titles in 12 trips is pretty good. I was just curious if there were any truth to the rumors. I also respect Coach Morris and his success. I am a Milan graduate, but I have lived in Rutherford County for 14 years now which I might add is king in 5A football.

Obviously, I wasn't talking about Maryville genius.

Does anyone know if Rankin still recruits players from out of the school district or school zone to play for his team like he did when he was a Riverdale in the Boro? Or at least he was rumored to and judging from the fall from grace Riverdale has had since he left it is believable

The only reason Milan scored only 17 in the playoff game against Westview was because they were playing in a driving rain.

Cobb was a great player for Alcoa and will be for Kentucky. However today was not his day against a very bad UT team. 4 of 7 for 23 yards

New Flash Milan has not had a losing season in over 30 years. UT fans will remember Earnest Fields back in the 80s he was a pretty good linebacker for the vols. Rod Smith was Mr. Football a few years ago and went to Memphis but had a season ending injury.

Interesting Alcoa fans are downing Milan so much. Word is Gary Rankin named his son after Milan's legendary coach John Tucker who is 2nd only to Carlton Flatt in career wins.

Of the 5 trips to the championship game Milan is 4 of 5, even one against Maryville back in 73 or 77 if I am not mistaken.

Actually we beat the pants off BT Washington twice with the same results

I'll give Alcoa credit. They have an excellent team. Coach Rankin is one of the legendary coaches in Tennessee. However, I wouldn't count Milan out. The core of this team went to the Semi-finals two years ago as Sophmores. They have a great defense and are very athletic. They have a good quarterback and two great running backs. One thing about Coach Morris is in Championship games he is 2-0 at Milan winning 2A in 98 and 3A in 99. Nobody gave us a chance in against an undefeated Lipscomb team in 1998 and we physically dominated them. Nobody gave us a chance against a good Portland team in 99 and we won that one too. I think this game will be closer than people think.
