Columbia charges 2 dollars to park at their football games. I have asked for years, how do they get to do that when no other schools in our district charge for parking. I have paid parking fees for football games at cookeville high school as well, that was $4. Interesting....

If the school bands have to pay indiviually to come to a game at tournament time (including the directors) then it would seem that regular season pass holders/special seating would not apply for tournament play. Doesn't the TSSAA rule the ticket sales at the host sites? If they do regulate it then it would seem that a regular season pass,special seating etc would not be applicable. Just my 2 cents.

Each girl, who leaves their sweat, blood and tears on those hardwood floors and every coach who pushes themselves and their teams beyond expectations are what make this region one of the toughest anywhere. EVERY TEAM, still in the tournament or not, should be very proud.

Obviously you didn't read and pay attention as I mentioned Class AAA teams Riverdale, Science Hill, Clarksville and the top ones out of the Memphis area. You are the one expecting them make make a run for a top 10 level, basically a Class AAA state tournament type team. Coaching girls in the summmer that are headed to Tennessee and Connecticut is a lot different than rebuilding a program no matter the contacts made over the years, and with high profile transfer cases being eyed more closely in the past, you can't expect a dozen players to just coming running.
Not that anyone disputes Riverdale's, Science Hill's, Clarksville's and the Memphis schools superiority in the standings, but there may be other teams that will try to challenge the standings before the end of season. Mt. Juliet is currently in the top 10, but could raise their standing quite a bit before all is said and done. Franklin County has been showing stronger, and each person is allowed their opinion.
A coach is a coach is a coach...regardless the season. Coaching girls basketball in Tennessee, especially Middle Tennessee is probably one of the more difficult task any coach could take on as a challenge whether it be a sizzling summer or freezing winter. I don't envy one of them, for the fire is pretty hot in any pan in this state.
Transfers...interesting topic. This past school year Oakland has one(eligible), Mt. Juliet has one(eligible), Riverdale has one(eligible), Franklin County has two(1 eligible, 1 non-eligible), and Smyrna has four(three eligible, 1 non-eligible). All the eligible players are playing, per the TSSAA and the two that are not know when they will be eligible to play per the same authority, the TSSAA.
Many of the girls on several of the TOP 10 current teams, do play together in summer ball and play well on a national level. It is increidble watching them bring back what they have learned on the road all summer to their home floors during school ball. It's then very interesting watching them compete against each other during school ball. And yes...someone HAS to coach them and those few coaches who get the opportunity to work with that talent in the summer, take that knowledge of coaching home in the school season to better their own players who they do not get to coach in the summer per the rules.
Regardless,of where a team stands now, when these and other strong teams from Middle Tennessee split up over Christmas, they were all some of the strongest teams in their perspective tournaments and some of those tournaments were noted as some of the toughest competition tournys in the USA.
For this you can be certain, when a team plays here in Middle Tennesse for the most part, everything is left on the floor by all the girls playing, by the coaches coaching and by the team mangers keeping them all watered up during the game. It's stiff competition and any one in the TOP 10 now should be very happy. Any team that works hard enough to move into any of those slots by the end of the season should be equally as proud. I, for one, do not think any team is resting on their laurels and as the season progresses, the natural objective is to plateau to their highest evolution. Sounds like a lot of great ball to watch for the fans of all the teams, and alot of hard, unseen work, for the young ladies we will all cheer for by State Tournament time.

I didn't get to attend the tournament, but would truly love to commend the Tournament Hosts on their VIRTUAL hosting of this event.
The RADIO announcers were EXTREMELY GIFTED and TALENTED, not letting a listener miss one moment of action.
The Up to the Minute STATS from Tusculum College were INCREDIBLE to have while listening to the games.
The Newspaper Coverage with game details and PHOTOS was some of the BEST online coverage I've ever seen.
ADD That all up and WOW, Holy COW! Impressive to say the least and the amount of effort on so many levels
is staggering. CLASS ACT all the Way Greeneville!~ Sounds like a VERY impressive TEAM effort on all media and physical fronts.
I'd also like to Congratulate the Franklin County Rebelettes on their incredible 3rd place showing.
BIG APPLAUSE to Mt. Juliet and Science Hill on their outstanding performances and 2cd and 1st places!

Franklin County is in a Monster Region in Region 5. With Riverdale, Blackman, Oakland, Siegel, Lawrence County and Shelbyville, how could you be so lucky? it will be interesting to see how they do. I would say they were both ready to play. And remember the name Wilson County. You will likley hear their name again this year.

Can it get any more miserable than the present situation? I have attended and supported as many basketball games as I could even going to away games that were near by. I have donated money just about every year for nearly 22 years to the program. But the last 4 or 5 years I sat up in the stands with a friend of mine and said this is ridiculous. It looks like a bunch of clowns at a circus. Finally, last year I said that I have seen enough and until the program gets straightened out I was not going to waste my time watching another basketball game with Tullahoma and I certianly was not going to spend any more money or donate any more money to the program. I did not attend a single game this season for the first time in forever and I am glad I did not. When are people going to get a clue that the coaches are not the problem? You change coaches and change coaches and still get the same sorry results. Has anyone stopped to think that the coaches just might have anything to work with?
I think someone should thank you for all the support you have previously given to the program. I'm certain it was very difficult for you to sit there for 20+ years and endure. I can empathize with your circus experience. Apparently you did care greatly and it is sad that the school program and the girls who currently play have lost your faith and support.
In the above post, (if you did read it) no particular person currently in the program blames the coaches. They are new and young, with this being their first year of head coaching a program anywhere. In my opinion, they have done their best to improve the program with what time they have been here. I think
the coaches would be able to say they have been supported greatly by the parents and community as first year coaches. They have
brought a new pattern of thought concerning girls basketball to our community as stated above. Sure things aren't always sunshiney daisy spring mist, but a rose ain't a rose without a few thorns. As you stated,
things have been tough and it is sad that you no longer support Tullahoma Girls basketball.
Be that as it may, I will state this. The Tullahoma JV girls basketball finished 15-5 this year.
Last year the JV girls here lost everygame by a average loss of 40+ points. I would dare anyone to not say, that is a BIG IMPROVEMENT of the program overall. These up and coming freshman and sophomores (that were also rostered and started for the Varsity) won those games playing the same age girls as themselves.
If that doesn't give you a glimmer of hope, then my last comment would be to take a look at the "strength of schedule" that Tullahoma played this year. Tullahoma's strength of schedule was ranked second amongst the 114 class AAA teams in the state. That 15-5 JV record,...well they won against the teams from all those schools including defeating a well coached and conditioned Riverdale JV team twice. I don't think anyone would question the validity of the highly respected Riverdale program.
To each his own, and Whitey I say this with all respect possible. I agree with you, but some of us must give these new coaches and VERY young players a chance and hope they continue to improve and become stronger as a whole.

This link would be offered in addition to that with comment to the last game and the thumping Tullahoma took from Lawrence County. No excuses, but Tullahoma was missing two starters (freshman) whom were sick. Tullahoma would not have given Lawrence County too much competition in that game, however, I do think it would have been a tiny bit different outcome. Tullahoma currently starts 3 freshman and 2 juniors.
As for the younger ladies in elementary and up, this year's freshmen are the first group of
girls that were brought into the very first Tullahoma elementary league 4 years ago. Since then, many
girls of that group and younger, now travel to Murfreesboro for private lessons weekly and
several of that group (freshman and younger) are now envolved with the Team Pride program. Two of the
three freshman have known for two years that there would be alot placed on their shoulders this year
coming in after a large senior class graduated and have worked HARD to learn and experience what they could
before entering high school.
That brings us to another point of interest, last year, Tullahoma graduated 6 seniors who mainly started. There is only one girl who started last year, that returned and only 3 varsity players returned period. As the three freshman grow and gain experience through another summer of AAU play, hopefully they again will return to summer ball, continue lessons and help bring their team leadership and experience to the floor.
Coach Stovall expects alot from these young ladies and she is giving them instruction and guiding as much as
she can. The program is very young, at this time, and we all await to see if growth will happen. The big change mentality is basketball must be a year round game, not just to pick up the ball for tryouts and put it down once the season ends. If the players, parents and community can grapple that task, it should enfuse a greater energy where the program stands.
Nothing in your post above is agrumentive or incorrect. Just wanted to go on record and say, things
have been changing, it will take time tho.

no thoughts on why for the last 20 years.
this year with the 4th (?) new coach in 5 years, it seems to be taking a different role. the team has been conditioning every day it has been able to since the new coach arrived (to my knowledge this has never happened with any consistancy). when the new coach came in, she made no hesitation about getting rid of seniors (minus one) who had never played. this year the tullahoma team starts 3 freshman & 2 juniors, 2 of the 3 freshman play almost every minute of the game in addition to playing all of their freshman and all of their jv games. although, the varsity team seems at times to have difficulties there are sparks that give one a glimmer of hope. the jv/freshman team (same rosters) are now 10-3 and have beat jv teams from creekwood, loretto, riverdale and cannon county to name a few. some may say, well JV does not count. I would offer that those girls playing jv ball are mostly of the same age groups of freshman and sophomores. our very YOUNG varsity this year are improving tho the win/loss column would not entertain that idea. in the last 2 games they have lost 72-60 (tullahoma girls haven't scored 60 points in any game in years!) and the last game lost 70-50. freshman girls generally have a lot to learn, and this young team will hopefully learn more and gain more knowledge as time progresses.

This group of players have a lot of talent. Also they are showing that freshman can play the game a the high school level.
This is VERY true. There are A BUNCH of freshman, starting and playing major roles on their Varsity teams this year. 2014 girls, as a whole, seem to be busy right now on the hardwood across the state.

I think the problem is when the band director forgets that the school has a marching band and not a competition band. I for one think that if there is a football game then the band MUST attend! I also understand that the kids in the band do compete, and for the most part this is how they really get rewarded
This was not a competition for the band. It was an individual audition that each band member participated in (or those that chose to) from all over the middle tennessee region and was sanctioned by the MTSBOA (http://www.mtsboa.com/) which is one of three regions under the TMEA (http://tnmea.org/index.aspx) which is the state authority for music education somewhat like the TSSAA is for sports. THIS WAS A STATE SANCTIONED EVENT and was not an event to be RESCHEDULED for anything.
This is an individual event(in which THOUSANDS of band students attend). Each student goes into a room with a "number" and there is a divider in the room. The judges behind the screen tell the band student on the other side (who the judges cant see) to play scales, the prepared piece and sightreading. This audition lasts maybe 3-4 minutes. A SNEEZE in the middle? NO DO OVERS. You have to cough? NO DO OVERS. You mess up and there is NO DO OVER. The judges simply say, "Audition is over. THank you."
These band kids, that everyone doesn't understand...well lets put it this way...they work ALL YEAR LONG bettering themselves to perform well in this ONE "3-4 Minute" moment. There isn't 10 games to impress a college coach, college reruiter and there is no highlight reel. There is just a judge that can't even see you and your just a number to them. AT the end of the day,... the best players get listed and get to put that on their college resumes. My son finished 1st in the midstate and made allstate. He has recieved letters from 2 Division 1 schools this week. That Friday he had been personally invited to attend a workshop by a college professor at the college he wants to attend. Last week, based on his ability & accomplishments (like the midstate/allstate auditions)he has been invited to tour Europe for 20 days this summer that only 66 kids from Canada, the US and Central America were invited to.
He is working for his college scholarship just like any athlete would do.
AND THIS is the "why" concerning the band. I hope it explains the "MUST" where these students were concerned. Bottom line, Tullahoma did have a band there at that game.
As stated above they are a support role, not a factor in a game.

Franklin County looked really good today in Gallatin. Seemed a very unified squad so early in the season with new head Coach Jeff Taylor taking helm of this ship winning both games against Hume-Fogg & Northwest. 8AAA boys should round up a very intriguing season indeed.
