  1. I shouldn't have even replied . That is exactly why I don't make picks or predictions. Message boards can easily be taken out of context. Western wrestler made a statement I felt was in a hostile manner ( probably taken wrongly by me) bringing up two matches in the past. So I brought up all their matches and gave details instead of just picking two and saying he was pinned. I clearly stated you take the wins with the losses and that's part of it. There are extenuating circumstances at times but if the wrestler chooses to wrestle then he has to accept the outcome. I never said nor am I saying now he's better than the Bullards or anyone else being discussed for that matter. He nor I have ever shied away from anything as anyone who knows either of us would attest to. Ill leave you to argue with Cleveland enemies now and stay out of topics like these. It's much more fun just watching.

  2. Youthcoach,

The ref's a cheater and/or an idiot? Football just ended? An injury to his arm? I have absolutely no horse in this race, but Wow! You are the epitome of the biased fan/family member or whatever. Just pitiful that you have an excuse ready for every Loss. I can only assume that a competitor like Blake will be embarrassed if he reads this. Do you have the same list of excuses for every guy that Blake has whipped through his career? I wonder if all of them had an injury or a horrible ref to blame also.

  3. For me, the best part of the season will come when mr.wests son graduates. Then, when next year comes around, everyone won't have to endure dad's endless babbling and bragging.. There have been hundreds of Very successful wrestlers as well as many successful programs in Tn wrestling history. Yet most parents knows when to just humbly enjoy it and let OTHERS praise your son or program publicly..Some people just can't handle success with style.

  4. Oh!.. I knew for a Fact that he was VERY HIGH on the list to take over for Coach Henry at his alma mater, where he would have actually been recognized as the Head Coach. Do you think he realized that he would temporarily be a Puppet at Cleveland, just to keep him away from Soddy until the Raiders actually needed him? I mean, maybe he did. Maybe he enjoys looking at Phillips back during these dual meets.

  5. No, not really like Coach Jackson, or Coach Henry. They each moved on to their new positions and allowed the new Coach to assume full leadership of the Wrestling team. While Coach Phillips is the A.D., he also wants to remain the Alpha Male on the CHS Coaching staff. Don't listen to me. Just go to any Big event and watch.

  6. Never heard that before.

...yeah, and I've never seen some tough guy get on here and resort to name-calling because someone happens to not feel the need to use his real name on a message board. You're like a more aggressive and vulgar version of Soms! Get over yourself..
  7. "What happened earlier in the season really doesn't matter"??? I'm a Public school supporter and fully appreciate what Cleveland accomplished this weekend and all season long. But let's face it, they had not one, but TWO chances this season to defeat The Bro's and couldn't quite get it done. Give them their credit and stop insinuating a hypothetical victory if only you had a 3rd chance. Geez.

  8. Really? You've never heard this discussion/debate before? Like 2-3 times every year for the last 15 years or so. Literally tens of thousands of posts over this exact topic? I don't think there has been a single new or original idea on this debate in over a decade, just recycled banter with neither side ever giving an inch.

  9. honestly i dont understand why this is getting so much credit i agree with rlwest40 so far this year clevelands been doing great and bradley has been doing well too but i think theres a very clear winner not to hurt anyones feelings

What you probably meant to say was "so much attention", rather than "credit". The attention is probably based in the fact that these are two of the most storied and consistently successful programs in Tennessee in the last 30 years. Also, they are cross-town rivals which always adds some excitement and anticipation. I've attended a few of these over the years, and these are some enthusiastic people! Also, the fact that until last season, the Bears had run off a string of consecutive wins over the Raiders that went back 15 or 16 years makes the seeming turning of the tide a little more interesting. You know what they say about payback! Hope this helps you understand a little.
  10. That was actually my point, I look FORWARD to seeing that, but not this year.

Actually, Bradley was there for many, many years. Did you hustle over to the dome and watch those great match-ups? I remember some real barn burners with Collins Hill.

  11. Mark my word and remember where you heard it...Beech will be a team to be wreckoned with. And will be at the top in both State Duals and Individual State

It's just that "mark my words and remember where you heard it" would normally be followed by some mind-boggling prediction that is MEASURABLE. So stick your neck out there. 3rd in State Duals? 6th? 4th in State Traditional? Top ten? "Wreckoned with" isn't really very specific. I just want to be able to give you your credit when it all shakes out!
  12. I see what your doing. And he is very happy at SD. In fact the kid said he never wanted to leave SD. These post are getting a little out of control. Every post is about 2 coaches and how great they are and what they did. Im starting to wonder who is posting this stuff.

Gee, the best coaches in the country, so wise, so powerful and yet so completely unselfish! There really should be some kind of award, trophy or sainthood for men like these!
  13. Ok? Yes... I will bite! Very good point on traveling to compete with Blair, great bridge, christiana and whoever else WAS there IN VIRGINIA. They don't recruit right? Anyway... Fun for those few who made the trip up there. Not as fun then for fans here, but for the Now let's have more fun with a bit more parity and less predictability!?!?

Great Run BC for many years, but with the selected opponents (similar to Brandon's records) but, again Now getting even more interesting closer to Home. More Wonder and less wander to get a challenge!

Over the years,,, Tex and any of my adversarial "fans" are typically like this (i must admit I'm somewhat odd and always have been as many have pointed out). They are so blinded by their own 1 demensional arrogance that they unintentionally help me to make my own points better than I could have otherwise. Thanks for that, by the way...

In another post you wanted to just "bury the hatchet"? Why in the world WOULD he? The type of activity that lead to his decision in the early 90's only got worse, and was never acknowledged by the offenders. The only dialogue was denial of the obvious and blatant name calling in a poor attempt to change his mind. How exactly, would that encourage a "bury the hatchet" mentality? "Selected opponents" insinuates cowardice. Congratulations, you have just insulted the winningest coaches in the history of both Tennessee and Florida! Great job.
  14. so,,,,you contact Mr. Coacht and complain that I went to the internet and see information is in the public domain about Spencer. He contacts me and says you are crying and would I act like it is not in the public domain and remove it. I comply. NOW you bring up the issue for all to see. You are very "odd".

Thanks guys... I truly appreciate your position and patience with me,,, as I have also been grateful to Steve and his drive to build on what Turner Jackson started there beginning with the Legman in the 70's and being bc's 1st State Champ in 1984 ...and appreciation not only the accolades, but the development of fine young men.

Many hours have been spent discussing this with bc folks including Steve and they know my opinion. Steve never could get over some poachingissues. I always wanted the hatchet buried in all honesty.

My apologies to all BC alum and fans for perhaps taking away from the Bears phenomenal record since the 80's... but I must say I am glad to see Ben's openness to entering events with d-2 teams competing.

Thanks Tex for your loving words... And on another note: Spence was never guilty or convicted of yours or others' suspicions btw. icon_e_smile.gif

From the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame Program:

    382 wins, 26 losses

    20 Team State Championships

    4 undefeated seasons, 7 1-loss seasons

17 year unbeaten streak at Home, 128-0

Teams won 31 of 32 Trad and Duals Regions Titles since 1994

35 wrestlers won 52 Individual State Championships

    143 Individual State Medals

    14 National High School All-Americans

7 Traditional State Tournament Outstanding Wrestler recipients

3-Time Scrappy Moore Award recipient, 1999,2004,2009

Had wrestlers go to wrestle for (and graduate from) UTC, Western State CO, Oklahoma State, Duke, Columbia and Princeton

Soms, which part do you think he needed your help with? The scheduling? If only he had listened to you, huh?

  15. Time to throw a top 10 AAA list out there:

    1. Cleveland - Can't see a weakness from start to finish. Well coached and many wrestlers working hard in the offseason.

    2. Soddy Daisy - Tons of talent and they just reload each year when spots come open.

    3. Wilson Central - Every tournament I watched in the offseason had WC kids wrestling in it. Hard work is paying off.

    4. Bradley Central - Take it back up a notch this year but they have a gap to still close in their region.

    5. Ravenwood - They keep churning out solid teams and know what it takes to get deep in the tourney.

    6. Independence - If they have solid leadership they have a solid lineup.

    7. Heritage - Another team that had a ton of kids working hard in the offseason. Strong youth program will start showing more and more.

    8. Beech - Team has talent and grit. They keep it close the hwt can close dual matches.

    9. Franklin - Solid lineup that could make some noise.

    10. Blackman - Has the coach to keep them near the top and some scrappy kids.

Any thoughts on A-AA teams? I will put 6 out there:

    1. Pigeon Forge - Two key losses in the upper weights but the coach has plenty of ammo.

    2. Chattanooga Central - Can't count them out.

    3. Hixson - Always there in the mix.

    4. Eagleville - Good base of wrestlers.

    5. Greeneville - Should take a step back up.

    6. Stone Memorial - Developed into a solid pro

The terms "tons of talent" combined with "just reload" does a real dis-service to Soddy. It minimizes the fact that Coach Henry and co. spent nearly 3 decades developing a total program which pays dividends consistently. There is no magic wand in Soddy Daisy. A good plan for a total program. Nothing less.
