  1. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Bloggers: I am getting the feel that many of you think I am associated with the Lady Blaze. But I'm not. I have a daughter who loves the Lady Blaze and has attended one of their camps. We do follow Blackman basketball and has seen the majority of their games. As far as approaching Coach H, I have no connection and CoachT allows me to express myself. My opinion has been inspired by parents, faculty and fans who unfortunately talk out loud. But out of respect to everyone, I will keep my personal views to myself. And I wish them well. Go Blaze!

  2. BB, its difficult to know where to start but I do agree with the last poster and he was to the point. He is right and you are not "just between adults". I would imagine you knew that by issueing an apology. But lets post generally. Coaches do a great deal more than coach basketball but they really like to win also for their team, for their school and having ego's, for themselves and trhe acknowledgement of their peers. They recognize the needs of their players and realize that basketball without a Student/Athlete doing well in the classroom is a personal failure. Recognition in the community is important to attract students to want to play. This is all part of preparing a student for a schlorship if they so wish and can qualify. Being critical of another player for one's selfish interests is not desirable nor attractive on this site. It may have blown your schools chance to go to state and the attitudes of others who have the same aspirations as you do, how seeming you might think it was unintended. Your coach is the Coach and if I were you, I would find some way rather than this forum, to generate some communication with the coaching staff. That might be difficult to do right now but, long term, one of them might make a suggestion as to what your player might need to do to increase PT. After someone read my post, I received a phone call and was told of an interesting senario that solved a PT situation as the parent sent a player to talk to the coach herself and the parent spent some time with the player explaining what to say and how to do it. It was a learning situation for the player to do that themselves. Coach CH and every coach I know of, and their staff do everything well and are in charge. With the right surroundings, they can even listen to suggestions and consult as to how players might get better. I can tell tht a parents wishes and a Coaches wishes in a situation like this are the same, only, there is only one Girls Coach and staff at that school. I posted your schools records for this year and realizing 7AAA girls basketball is very tough this year, your team and your Coach have done very well this year while the fans would have been happier undefeated. While others may not think as I do and you, I'm sure, don't want to cause any more confusion, somewhere along the line discussing the PT of your player with someone with the coaching staff would be desirable or have the player to do so.. I can tell by your consistant posts that this is bothering you and it shouldn't.

  3. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Ssssssh! My mouth is closed about my opinion of Blackman. Thanks for the advise. But opinion or statements are what Coach T is about and it's not always desirable.

/flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> Did anyone see the game on Friday between Blackman/Cookville girls. I know Blackman lost, but how was the game.

  4. BB, better let it alone. As to discussing playing time or any other issue with the coach could turn sour in a hurry. Once you do it, you can't undo it. Better think eight times before doing a solitary thing. A little advice from someone looking in. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  5. BBisthesport:

I can't help but feel like you're not taking accountability for your previous post, and again I must question what it is you are trying to say. A child will not be awarded an athletic scholarship if he or she is on a losing team? Let's refer to David Price- the only Gatorade Player of the Year in 2003-2004 to have a losing record. Last time I checked, he's been doing fairly well.. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I do agree with you that a coach is often times not awarded for looking into his player's academics- a sad truth in high school sports. So many adults have lost sight of the fact that the word STUDENT comes before the word ATHLETE in the phrase student-athlete. I was only commending Coach Hibdon for his attention in that area. The lady who scored 18 points that you are referring to is T'anna Overton, and she played a great game. Maybe instead of trying to "voice your opinions" about what is wrong with other girls on the team or the coaching staff, you could focus more on what is going right with the program.. just an idea.

  6. Camper and Blackman Fans:

First of all I wasn't slamming the Team or Coaches I was stating the facts and I am not apologizing for voicing my opinion, while others whisper to each other. I am hoping my opinion is among adults and I do feel my opinion has a valid point. And if a player is offended, my APOLOGIZE. But without the names in my statement it would be hard to follow. The point I was trying to make is not based on community likes or dislike, or classroom standings. A coach is not awarded for this. In order for a coach to keep his/her job, they have to win games and produce a good team. And if this isn??™t achieved many kids will lose athletic scholarships. But according to the games I saw, the stats I read, and how the game is played. The door seem to be open for the point guard. I do agree that 7 to 9 girls have playing time, but only for a minute; if it's that long. Great contributors sit the bench the majority of the time, while someone with only leadership skills play the majority of the game. Coach H does do some things well, but when it comes to crucial situations like the Riverdale, Siegel, and Wilson Central game that was lost in the last minute of the game, he failed. The LADY BLAZE has come a long way and should be commended. They should go very far- THE STATE, but they can??™t do this without team ball and good coaching. With a few adjustments it can be accomplished. And this is my opinion-after all this is what the message board is for. Great job Lady Blaze for working so hard. Can wait to see the outcome. Also, It was great to see the young lady who scored 18pts back in the game (where has she been)? She really does a great job getting the ball down the floor.

  7. BBisthesport-

not only do I disagree with every slam you made against blackman- i know for fact that you are failing to see the contributions both campbell and dorsett contribute to that team. campbell is a work horse and constantly works on her game, and dorsett is the leadership that the team needs to be successful. Without these two individuals, Blackman would not be the same team you have witnessed this season. As for your comments on coach hibdon, most of the blackman community would have to disagree. Not only is he a coach with the team's best intentions in mind, he also goes out of his way to see after the girls in the classroom. The entire blackman coaching staff works dilligently to ensure success for the program. All of your proposed "remedies" to fix Blackman basketball is just a method of slamming a great group of girls and coaches. So they didn't win last night, last time I checked they are still up in the district rankings. Why "fix" something that isn't broken?

  8. Fridge, thats a good point and Blackman can be a great team with all of the defenses Coach Chad throws at teams but who are some other olayers who Blackman has that can stroke well? How about Dorsett and Nowlin? Will they need to step up to make this team good in the district?

Well I can tell you what problems Blackman is having, Campbell is a ball hog at the request of the Coach. Everything seem to be design around her. Dorsett is useless when it comes to defense and 1 three pointer a game is no help either. Sometimes I wander if Campbell and Dorsett are playing volleyball. And about Nowlin she should be shooting the three, but only Campbell and Dorsett have been given the go ahead. Things with Nowlin are up and down and I??™m sure this has to do with her legs. Which bring me to disjoint why is she defending the best player on the floor and trapping. And why is the some of the best players Overton and Bailey are on the bench, they can really help out. Coach Hildon also need to leave things along when people are getting the job done. Now about the post, they can't perform because they are to busy wasting time posting up with no chance of getting the ball. The post are poor at rebounding because they are busy trying to find someone to block out. Question? Do Campbell or Dorsett ever get tired? They seem to never the game. Other players are benched for making one mistake. How to improve on defense stop trying to trap, this will never work when only one person is doing all the work pressuring the ball and others are to slow to trap. Coach Hildon could help this team if it would shut up and let the girls play the game and stop coaching their every move. And this pointer is most important: STOP TRYING TO FREEZE THE BALL. Every time this is done they lose. I do think Blackman has a good team, but wrong lineup and no TEAM ball. I all almost finish with my pointers. Last two pointer. Try this offensive move: Put Nowlin, Overton, Campbell, Norris and Cox or Smith and see what happens.. Help from the bench: Bailey and Hall. Defense: man to man, 2/3 no trapping it doesn't work.

  9. There is such thing as "overtraining". Your body needs rest to be involved in any type of athletics. Working out 7 days a week is just too much. It's good to take days off from weight lifting because muscle is gained while your body is resting. You should stretch BEFORE and AFTER EVERY workout. The more flexible you are the less likely you are to get injured. As far as preventing ACL injuries there is not a brace on the market that can completely prevent someone from injuring their ACL. Females do have higher injury rate to the ACL because they have an increased Q angle, different size of the femoral notch, and hormonal influences. Plyometeric training is one of the best ways to help the body get ready for the physical strain athletics places on the body. Plyometric exercises are designed to help with speed and explosion. Most athletes don't know how to "land" when they jump. I have seen, in my experiences, a basketball player will "land" with their legs locked. I most commonly see this in females as opposed to males. This places the ACL at a very high risk because one mechanism for an ACL tear is a hyperexteded knee. Also, just because you do everything to get ready for a season doesn't necessarily mean you will be injury free, but it will help. Coaches are starting to realize now that shorter practices, days off, and proper off-season workouts will also help with preventing injuries. Some schools have Certified Athletic Trainers who are educated and trained to specialize in preventing, rehabing, assessing, and treating injuries. I would suggest if you have any questions or concerns to address them with your Athletic Trainer. Any more questions please ask /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Well but! Overstraining has hurt a lot of players. For instance our team practices 6 to 7 days a week for 2.5-3.0 hours. During the summer they are encourage to play AAU basketball long with participating in there school summer program. Which requires a strenuous running exercise. Also, I can??™t see the purpose of 2 a days, specially when they have worked all summer and fall. Because of the none stop breaks the kids are drain physically and mentally . I feel that exhaustion has cause several injuries for our team: 4 knee injuries which cause surgeries, a shoulder injury, two leg injuries. The kids are encourage to start back before they have a chance to heal. Coaches also play the psychological game with our children, telling them to stink it up, be tuff, push yourself . And don't get sick- you have to come to practice even if you don't attend school, have a fever or even throwing up. THE LINE MUST BE DRAWN. Our kids must speak up and not feel intimidated or treated with a consequences, for not being able to continue at a certain pace. The COACHES AND ATELETIC DIRECTOR must respect our kids by giving their body a chance to rest and stop pushing them beyond unnecessary limits.

  10. Id rather have a point guard with 5 points and 12 assists. (ok, Id rather have a PG with 15 points and 15 assists, but that is less likely to happen)

Anyways, a really good point guard is not necessarily a great scorer.

I do not know any of the kids or teams mentioned so far, so do not take that personal. Just sayin.

Gator your right! Blackman has a point guard who has high score every game. Matter of fact, look at the stats, she donates in every catogory. Where are the other players? I thought in the game of basketball, one of her postition was to pressure the ball, but thats not goin happen guarding the weaks player. Other positions SHOULD be steals and assists. But thats kind of hard when she shoots 90% of the time. I would like her to take the opportunity to make a GOOD pass and play defense and stop worrying about fouls. The coach has alot to do with this situation, He has given her the green thumb and others are held back to run plays. Don't get me wrong, she is an okay shooter, but statisticly it doesn't add up. What happen to the black girl who is now a senior and sitting on the bench? Also why isn't the inside players not used. First thing is to work the ball inside and then out, this is the way it use to work. Point guard keep you head up and make a few adjustments. Think TEAM!!!

Gator, your right! BHS, mufreesboro has a point guard who has high score every game. Matter of fact, look at the stats, she dominates in every catogory. Where are the other players and do they account for anything? I thought in the game of basketball, one of the task of a PG was to pressure the ball, but thats not goin happen guarding the weaks player. Other tasks of a PG SHOULD be steals and assists. But thats kind of hard when she shoots 90% of the time. It would be good if she stepped her game up in these area. And don't worry about fouls on defense, that means you are playing tough defense. I don't fault the PG for her like of ability to fulfill the whole PG position. The coach has alot to do with this situation, he has given her the green light and others are held back to run plays. It's okay to lead in every catorgory as long as its Team ball. But she need to complete all the task (assists & defense) of a PG. Don't get me wrong, she is a good shooter, but percentage wise it doesn't add up. Also, What happen to the black girl who is now a senior sitting on the bench? She was a hot player last year. Also why isn't the inside players not used? In the game of BB most coaches work inside/out. I can understand this not working if you had a week inside. With 3 strong big girls they should be contributing alot. To end on a positive note its exciting to see the team doing well. Go TEAM!!!

  12. Like i said any of these could be any where different I do know that Lebanon made great strides last year and they very well could break that top 4 siegel always gave us fits so it was hard for me to knock them out of the top 4 for right now I also am not married to ANY of my picks except the RIVERDALE one of course lol but where else would i put my LADY WARRIORS LOL

Man... no one is giving Blackman any credit, they have come along way and making big strives. In watching them i see a few things that could but them in the low seat. 1. They are not a run and gun team, to much coaching from the blench

    2. The point guard and guards doesn't see that floor that well. Point guard main focus is shooting and no defense when it comes to pressuring the ball. 2. The inside player aren't utilize that much. But during the Riverdale and siegel game they showed great strength in every area. My rankings: Blackman, White County, Cookeville, Riverdale, Lebanon

  13. Wow! What's the big deal? This has been going on for years and it STINKS. Kids have been transferring to schools and coaches have been recruiting since sports came into existence. Who wouldn't want to play on a victorious team or for a victorious coach. This could be why some school are over crowded. If the schools/ TSAA, etc... would dig a little deeper I'm sure 20% or more are not zone for were they attend.

Also, what are we teaching our kids: If I don??™t like my coach transfer, If I don??™t start for my team transfer, our team hasn??™t done well its time to go. THIS ISN???T HOW THE REAL WORLD WORKS. **If you are an athlete with great talent, who wouldn??™t want to see you perform. If we are worried about athletic scholarships, colleges would travel the blue sea to see someone with great talent.

But how can we stop these over zealous parents and bratty children who think the world revolves around them. Here is a few ideals:

If a athlete transfer to a new school without probably cause they shouldn??™t be eligible to play that season.

If a student hasn??™t lived in that zone for 6 mths, put them on probation and if they move again within that year, student would become ineligible for a year.

And if a coach/student violates the TSAA/school rules, the coach should be fired and the student not permitted to play period

This is the kind of stuff that happens in the real world.

And talking about another thing that gets my goat- ???POLITIC??? kids- who are on the team and playing because of who they know, not according to their ability to play the game. BUT THAT??™S ANOTHER TOPIC
