  1. Sounds great! I just wish they adults on this thread would drop it. She has moved and has made a I'm sure hard decision, but it is hers to make. You all need to just get over it. It's a done deal. God Bless

The way it seems to be going on these threads, it must be easy to get them locked. All you have to do is ask the right questions to the right posters, and everyone knows who they are, and the thread will be locked. But I must say that's a good way to avoid answering questions that would show the true feelings of the posters that have been asked these questions.

  2. Baller, I think your post might be more appropriate if you were careful to differentiate between opinion and fact. I try to caveat my opinions as such when I post. For your benefit, I've included a definition: "A fact is a pragmatic truth, a statement that can, at least in theory, be checked and either confirmed or denied."

I'm quite sure I know to which instances you are referring with respect to the boys' teams, but I don't think some of the accusations on this thread are well founded. Regardless, this is a Girls' Basketball site so why not stick to the subject at hand. With that in mind, here's a fact for you to consider: When Kristen came to EHS, Coach Dugger was not the coach! So any inference that he recruited her to EHS is just false. I'm sure Highlander is aware of this fact, but I just want to clear that up for those posters/readers that aren't as familiar with the situation.

Again this thread is just an example, and a small one at that, of the things that Coach Dugger and the Lady Cyclones will have to face this season. Etown you can try and sugar coat things all you want, but the facts are facts. You have a girl that left her home school for another and feelings are going to be hurt. She just as well threw her uniform in Happy Vally High School's face. You might want to get your facts straight, have you talked with any of the parents of the "original" Lady Cyclones? I have, and if you think they are all happy with the transfer, then you are kidding yourself. Have you talked to any of the players? I have, they'er not all happy. Someone is going to sit the bench that otherwise would be playing, you can't play 6 at one time. They are going through the summer knowing this and wondering "who" is going to be the one that sits. Remember, they to, gave their time and loyality to Coach Dugger and the Lady Cyclone program way before Cara did. I think Highlander is just trying to give everyone some insight to what the Lady Highlanders went through

  3. That there were meetings, to me at least, is a good thing. And sure, those meetings were, for the most part, in group form, as most meetings are.

Last season's team met with the Principal during September. They weren't pleased with his handling of the situation, but nonetheless, all of them chose to continue playing.

The under-graduates met with him again this spring. After this most-recent meeting, some of those returning players - as individuals - chose not to return. Some of them have chosen to play; others might later opt to play. And some will not play. This proves that these decisions have been made on an individual basis, and thus, for you to assert the group label is assumptive at best, and at least for now, either premature, simply wrong, or both.

Do you wan't the girls that quit to go back and play? Will they get your support if they do?

I hope they all chose to come back and play, for themselves, if for no other reason. IMO I think they would be supported.

  5. Dr.,

I know that the teenager you're addressing is indeed, a player; and a very good one.

    And in two sports. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

In fact, she had an outstanding performance at the UT Speed Camp last week.

In other words, you're way outta bounds here.

It was just a guess, and for lack of better words, a bad one on my part. As you can tell I have no DOG in the fight. All of my post are from an outside view. I do think screenandroll said it best, I think later down the road these girls will come to regret not playing. I have experienced this personally and regret it still to this day, 17 years later. After all they are 16 and if they are missing being there now, imagine 10 to 15 years from now. I know you are going to say it's their decision, and it is, but they are 16, IMO it is up to the adults to guide them, not paint a false picture, life is tough, and it's only going to get tougher. As you can tell I'm not a fan of quitting. IMO, and again IMO, rangerchick, if you miss playing, go, and play. IMO, if the parents and fans supported your decision to quit, they will support your decision to play. I hope not another bad guess. Rangerchick, sorry for the assumption in my previous post.

  6. Dr. Enough you can't stay away from the Unaka situation can you? You blast us on a E-town Hv post now? what class from a grown adult. I don't think Coach Dugger is recruiting anybody, Cara & her family most likely made this decision on their own for more opportunities, & I don't think Coach Dugger would turn her down. Players from E-town may or may not get mad about her decision to move. Hopefully they can all just bond together & have another great season. I know what kind of player she is, she will work hard for her playing time.

    /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Quit posing as a 16 year old on coachT. One user name is enough. Every reader knows you are not one of the players, just one of the parents. For the record, I was using trustworthy's quote on the all-Americans. Which brings me to ask, is your daughter going to go play for Coach Dugger?

  7. As an objective observer with limited knowledge, Just exactly how has the administration failed these kids? Is it because they didn't fire the coach in question at the request of the parents, and by not getting the approval of the "Parents" when Coach Chambers resigned. Weren't their accusations on Coach Chambers when he left? What is the truth exactly on that subject, since you guys are all "IN THE LOOP" on this subject? Now if in fact what has been said about Chambers is true, than he should have been removed, but again if not than he should have been able to stay. With that being said I don't think they could have beat Hampton or Cloudland either one, even with Chambers there. The talent level at Unaka has dropped considerably since the days of Robertson, The Ensor Sisters and the Osborn girl. At the few games I was able to attend it looked like Lynch mob around the Head man sitting across the gym. Not even John Wooden could coach in that situation. Just imagine if James Naismith were sitting across the floor in the Pauly Pavilion, that would be pretty disturbing. If the girls in question really love the game and the "changes are a commin" then why not do like Dr. Enuf says and tuff it out until the change? Whats next are they gonna try to run Ron Hicks off after taking the softball team deep in the playoffs.

trustworthy, what were the accusations on Coach Chambers? Please, What or who was the Lynch mob sitting across the gym?

  8. For what its worth, I heard it said that the only reason Cara went to Etown was because her brother is a standout on the Baseball diamond and he wanted a better opportunity so she just tagged along. Sounds legit to me. According to the Unaka thread Len is recruiting the wrong part of the county, He could have a field day on the creek. They say they have a few all americans up there who quit. I don't know Sounds legit to me. Maybe he ought to consult Etownsparky. Hey Idon't know!!!!!!!

I would guess that if Dugger is not recruiting them, then they are not all americans.

  9. What part of did NOT chase him out to the car did you NOT understand, he went out behind him and ask him(WES) to come in and talk to us about the situation. But as I said NOT once, NOT twice, but THREE (3) times now, he (WES) ran like a scalded dog. If you are the coach, and you are not ADULT ENOUGH to talk to the parents of the players, about whatever they want to talk to you about with reasoning as adults then you don't need to be coach. And that does not apply to just WES alone. Giving birth does not give me (or any other mothers for that matter) right to be involved on the ball court(that's what the refs get paid for), but it does give me the RIGHT to have a say in how my child (or any other child) is being treated if it is without respect. And thanks for the vote of confidence, maybe I will form my own team, should already have at least 5 or 6 players. LOL

We, the posters, hope they don't quit on you also. LOL Just kidding, I couldn't help myself. I hope you form your own team and everything works out for you, the rest of the parents, and the 5 or 6 players. By the way, can you answer my question, that all the first time posters keep avoiding, "who are the people, person, or family they are talking about"? One more question, if Coach Wright ran and your husband went out behind him, was he walking or did he have to run to keep up? If he ran, he was chasing.

  10. I will not put out a kids name like that because I have more respect for kids than that and its not that kids fault at all so no need for her name to be involved!!! Anyone who has knowledge of Unaka Sports knows who the good ol boys are. Only reason I posted is to let those who are taking up for Wes Wright know that before you go putting down the players that quit please just talk with them and get ALL sides of the story. I have never been one who believes players or parents should have control of a coach BUT when they are right they are right and the kids are standing up for their right to have a good high school career without people taking away their high school playing days just to get what they want int the future and for what its worth girls, I RESPECT YOU FOR THAT. Those girls who quit are NOT the ones who were flippin off fans and making the school look bad. They are the ones that wanted those actions to stop. How can anyone blame kids who all they want is to play ball and not be a part of the political junk that this situation is all about?

Most of us have no knowledge of Unaka sports, so who are they? Who is the one or one's taking away their high school playing days? Not to get anything started, but this sounds more like an excuse for the players that quit than what is really going on. One of my reasons for this thought is the way your hatred for Coach Wright is most evident in your post. Secondly, you want Coach Wright out as the Coach who, after reading your post, will be after another year, and you are still not happy. If what you say holds water, should you not be getting the girls to stay or hang on for one more year? Which brings me to ask, again, who will be the one taking Coach Wright's place? Is this what you and the rest of the parents of the girls that quit want?

  11. I have followed Unaka girls basketball since Coach Hicks had them and I can tell you this. The school has never cared about girls basketball at Unaka!!! I just love how people come on here taking up for Wes Wright who have no idea what is going on or even WHY he is head coach anyway. Ask yourselves this, why would he ger the job without considering anyone else when he has never been a high school head coach and has NEVER had success anywhere he has ever been? Ill tell you why, because it had nothing to do with doing the best for the program. It had to do with the one family that has run stoney creek for as long as I can remember. One family who has their noses in every decision that is made. Right from the start when "coach" wright got hired it was set up as a two year deal even tho I am sure Wes Wright does not know this. He was placed in the job to hold the slot for two years until "the good ol boy" club could fill the spot with who they want when their daughter gets into high school which just happens to be year after next. Coach Wright is just a pawn in a plan of the good ol boy club. They have tried hard to keep him in one more year and if they are successful, Coach Wright will find out one year from now how he was played for this family to get their way on stoney creek, as usuall. I dont know Coach Wright as a person but how good or bad of a guy he is does not matter. The point is this, the man has no clue how to run a ball team. I watched in shame this season as I saw girls flipping off fans while running down the court and saw a fist fight break out, Saw players refuse to come out of the game when trying to be subbed out. I have heard people blame the girls BUT leardership starts at the top and Coach Wright allowed this to go on without putting a stop to it the first time it happened which caused it to get worse and worse. NO basketballl knowledge, no control over his team and no respect to or from his players!!! and you wonder why he cant win. I have been a loyal fan of Unaka girls basketball since the 80's but I will tell you this. With Wes Wright on the sidelines I will not be back because his actions and the actions he allows the girls to take puts Unaka Basketball to shame!

WOW!, Who are the"good old boy's"? Who is the daughter? Who is it that is going to take Coach Wright's place? Who is the family? Who was the deal made with? More info......PLEASE. All readers are waiting!

  12. Ouch! The venom is already being sprayed and the assumptions being made. How about we try to assume good intent on everbody's part? Life is about choices, and the Bowlings have apparently made one. If they think the opportunities are favorable at Elizabethton and they meet all the eligibility requirements, then they have every right to make the move. I would imagine they have assessed all the angles and made a very difficult decision. To assume Coach Dugger had anything to do with it is slanderous without proof. Any coach would love to have a player this good come to their school. It will be Coach Dugger's job to blend her in with his existing team, define new roles, and keep everybody happy with playing time. The Cyclone's are loaded and it may be tough managing the minutes, but if the TEAM wants to win, they will adjust. This is a good problem to have and I believe the Lady Cyclones will be just fine. As for the notion that Bowling's arrival will knock somebody out of a deserved starting spot, that is just life and it is not always fair. Nobody is ENTITLED to anything and there is competition for everything in life from jobs to spouses to houses to everything else. Being bitter about it does noone any good, so just learn the lesson and move forward together stronger for it. I blame noone for anything here and wish the best for Kara, Coach Dugger, and all the Lady Cyclones! Go Cyclones!!!!!!!

I agree with your post almost entirely, almost. The battle has already been lost if Coach Dugger has to manage minutes and keep everyone happy with playing time. As for slander, I was simply refering to Coach Dugger dealing with transfers. To assume intent, good or bad, will be something Coach Dugger and the Lady Cyclones will deal with all season.

  13. She will be eligable. Do people really think parents with kids of this caliber transfer without checking everything out first? This was months in the making and all the bases have been covered.

Even the spot that has been taken from another player? Even Ed? I will say, ALL the bases BETTER be covered. A fake move WON'T get it done with this one. I think parents believe what they want to believe when it comes to their kids, even if it's not true. I'm sure TSSAA will stay informed through out the entire year.

  14. I am beginning to think Coach Wright may not be the problem at all, just as I think Coach Chambers was not the problem. Meddling parents, personal agenda school board members, and catering administrators may be the real problem. If the coach is not abusing players, they should not quit. It sounds like some house cleaning needs to be done. It would be interesting to see what Coach Wright, or any coach for that matter, could do with the support of a strong administration. The parents and board members need to stay out of it. Let the coach coach and the players play!

I don't think Coach Wright is the problem, didn't these same parents cause problems in softball also? I don't know, that's just what I got through the grape vine. Let the Coach coach and the players play. It sounds like the house cleaning has been done, by Coach Wright. If the players quit and the parents let them to make a statement, then the school and program are both better off in the long run. I have yet to read anything that Coach Wright has done that should make the players quit. Removing the meddling parents was probably the best move for the program. I also got through the grape vine that the removal of some of these people was by request of the players. If this is true, who and why?

  15. If its not a legitimate move into the city school district, then TSSAA will rule her ineligible. Don't think for one minute it won't be monitored. HV will see to that.

Anytime there is a transfer from a rival, especially while in the middle of their high school career, there are team chemistry issues to deal with. Feelings will be hurt. Mommies and Daddies will be mad. It can "make" a team; or break one apart.

I don't think this is something new for coach Dugger. If there was no move, she is ineligible and E-Town wasted a camp. Feelings WILL, and ALREADY HAVE been hurt, and it's not over yet. Someone mentioned how the girl felt that had worked for two or three years for that spot that will now be replaced by an ineligible player, how about her parents? How about her friends? How about the E-Town girls B-Ball program that is about to get a black eye? How about the rest of the sports programs that will suffer because of a bad decision on a coachs part? How will Ed react to this?

  16. And that is exactly why I phrased my comments the way I did, Vader. I've read every last word of this thread and I just wanted listed somewhere on here the 'correct' way to take action against a coach behaving inappropiately-- IF THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE CASE. You follow me /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I've been to more games than I care to count, and I do know whats going on. IT IS ACTUALLY THE CASE.

  17. The coaches do not cuss the players like you are implying. What you are saying is just a flat out lie. If you don't want your son to be a Bulldog that is fine with me, you'll just be one less mouth. It's pathetic to hear some parents at Hampton whining and crying because their little babies can't handle someone telling them they're not perfect. But if a kid wants to learn how to play the game and be a winner, they should come to Hampton because the Dawgs have 2 of the best. Coach Tolley has done great things with this girl's team and won a few championships at the middle school level, led a team to state runner-up as a player, is still to this day the only player to ever win the MVP of the State Tournament while being on the losing team, and he's the smartest coach that I've ever seen. You don't even realize how good of a coach he is until you play for someone else. Coach White is a TSSAA Hall of Fame coach, won a state championship as a player, earned the only major D-1 scholarship that a Hampton player has ever received (that I know of) which was to the University of South Carolina, and he learned the game of basketball from one of the best coaches in high school basbetball history and Tennessee's All-Time Winningest coach, Buck Vanhuss. I sure hope that Buck cannot see what is happening to the school that he built and the way his school's coaches are being treated because he is probably rolling over in his grave...

I never said it was Coach White, and I think I will take my son somewhere else, on up the mountain. And yes the players do get cursed and it's not a lie. One day the parents of the players will get fed up with the language directed at their sons and they will go to the right people and these Coaches won't have a leg to stand on. My son does not play High School ball yet, but it won't be at Hampton. I can assure you that he won't be the last player Hampton loses from their feeder Schools due to whats going on. There are more people in the stands than just you, and we can hear.

  18. I was told by a player that coach white told Hill at halftime he might not play the second half because they were gonna go man and hill couldnt match up with anybody from cloudland, they would have beat him off the dribble all night. and im not even sure that Hill wanted to quit, i think his family pressured him into it, and if thats true its very sad because he has played more as a sophmore than alot of people have there whole career. these parents have to realize that there son isnt a baby anymore and they need to quit treating him like one. what is he going to do when Ned sits him on the bench? do u not think they get on there players at cloudland? he better grow up quick and learn how to take a butt chewing or he wont be able to play anywhere.

I have yet to see Coach Smith curse one of his players and he seens to do just fine. Coach Smith is a good Coach and role model for his players. He is a true class act, and yes he still gets on and pushes his players to be their best.

  19. There is no doubt in my mind that the coaches at Hampton needs mental help, the way they have coached has nothing to do with it, its merely that they are crazy enough to do the job. Its been this way since the beginning of last season, people have tried to destroy the team for 2 years. This is a very talented group of young players, but the fighting and belittleing of the players and coaches ruins it for everyone. Team is a huge concept and its getting rare to see one. A team is 1 for all and all for 1. Thats definately not the case at Hampton. Can't be much fun for anyone. The kids and coaches both deserve better.

Coaches can't play and players can't coach, both are going to make mistakes ,but everyone still needs to stay on the same page. Its a team and I'm pretty sure the coaches and players were both doing what they thought would give them the best chance to win.

The biggest mistakes that have been made are the ones the coaches have made in the way they curse the players. These coaches should set good examples for these young men. The kids do deserve better.

  20. This team or any team for that matter isn't going to be special with poor old JERRY WHITE as coach! The game has passed him up so long ago. For a coach to believe that a 1-3-1 defense is the way to go should tell you Bulldog fans something. I will have to say that the Bulldog has to have a lot of talent to have won 17 games this year despite the poor coaching they have gotten. They don't even have a post game but why should a post want to go to Hampton, it is only a 2 guard offensive show! I'v heard that numerous players on the team want to just quit and get away from the verbal abuse from White and Matheson. Maybe Hampton should just keep "predictable White and company" they are going to be easier to beat down the road.

This is what I've been posting about. I don't think it's their coaching ability, it's their language. If you want respect from your players, try respecting them. I'll say it again, as a parent, I don't think that I can let my son play for coaches that use this kind of language.

  21. If you play any sport you are going to get a chewing if you you don't do the job right. but what most people "in the stands " don't understand is it's not to offend any kid out there on the court or on the feild. It's just to encourage or "fire up" a kid. Most players indeed get fired up and play better.

Let's get real and quit complaining abougt B.S.

On the basketball side of things....

Hampton travels to Happy Valley tonight to take on the warriors.

Should be a hard fought battle to the end and thier should be a BIG crowd on hand.

Both teams are playing great right now, and Hampton needs this (W) to keep the MoJo!!

There is nothing wrong with a chewing, if it's done the right way. What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong and cursing kids is wrong. It's wrong on the court, it's wrong on the field, it's wrong in the locker room. What would happen if a Teacher cursed a student? What would happen if a Preacher cursed his Church members? It's not right for the leaders of our children to act in such a manner. It's also not right for us as parents to sit back and allow something like this to go on. Again, I don't know if I can let my son play for coaches like this. I can't speek for anyone else, but I know that I don't want my son to think that this kind of behavior is ok.

  22. There are many people who simply can't be pleases, one way or another. Many coaches will light up a player from time to to (1)get a players head right, and (2) to get all the players to realize they are the coach. I've seen all sorts of coaches all over the area go into all sorts of tirades at games, this is nothing new. There have been times I've wanted to go into locker rooms and bless out players myself, but I know the coaches will do what they do to get the kids to respond. It would be wonderful if it wasn't necessary, but there are times a player needs to see they aren't all that, or that they just aren't giving it what they should. We as fans don't see all that happens or is said at practice or on the sidelines, and we are probably happier for it. I've heaard that at one time or another, every player has heard that they are the worst player to ever wear their school's jersey. It's called "tough love", and every coach uses it. Ever see Pat Summitt and her "stare"? Yikes. I think people need to calm down on the coaches, rally behind the team, ( who by the way is in first place in case they hadn't noticed) and stop all this bickering about playing time, hurt feelings, etc. Let the coaches do their job, and just enjoy the results, because the results are starting to show!

To be honest, it's the language that the coaches are using. Personally, I don't think it's right. It's not just basketball at Hampton that has this problem, it's all three boys' teams. If it's wrong it's wrong, winning or losing. My point is, I don't know if I ,as a parent, can let my son play for people or coaches like this.

  23. i don't want anyone to take this too bad, because i bleed blue and go to almost all sporting events etc. but last night during the boys game i set behind the boys and observed the worst thing i have ever seen in a ballgame from a coach at hampton no names are going to be mentioned but afterr seeing how one of the coachs jumped in one of the boys faces and degraded him and told him how bad he was (in so many words) right in is ear as loud as he could

then after that one of the fans try to take up for the boy (a Woman) he told her off too. As for me if i had a child that could play high school basketball it would not be for him also this bulldog team has alot of talent and could go along way with a little ENCOURAGMENT not downing and cusing!!!

This is something that has been going on ALL year. Yes we won, and that's good for the boys, but at what cost? There is no "I" in team or coaching staff. At times I can't help but wonder who is running the show. I'm afraid this is a bad situation getting covered up by W's. Is this something that could cost us players in the future? Is this something that could cause players that are in the program to go to another school?
