  1. I'll agree on that - both pitchers deserved the win. I'm glad it went our way but the Stars sure did bow their backs and get the job done. We'd better be ready for tonight as Oakland will be out for revenge! Thanks to both teams for another classic battle!

    MeepMeep!

Right on Brother. Spring is in the air and there's a district game tonight in Oakland's house. At least I can rest my vocal cords.

  2. Hey - we all are on here to speculate and it's all in fun or was until you decided to cut us to the quick - lighten up! No one is trying to tell the coach what to do. I've said it too - best 9 on the field. We speculate "what if" to have something to discuss. When some of the boys serve their time, then we (coach) may need to move players to get what he wants.

As far as the other statements yes the outfield is "OK" we see moving players around to allow for the hot bats and gap stopping speed.

As for the relay - did you see it or hear of it? That play is like turning two - if the ball is thrown behind the player accepting the relay, then the play is basically off. The throw came off balance and not on line - almost a throw to second vs left center to home line. The player had his back to home plate - the play at that point was dead.

Did you see the hits you're referring to? Enough said. Both young infielders had hits too - remember? They will do fine in their rolls.

And the big bats - Siegel can go 1-9 with homer power - very few middle TN teams can say that.

Thank you Longgone. I believe it's time for TheMick to take a sabbatical from Coach T. I seem to have stepped on someones toes and that was never my intention. I consider all the boys an extended family and I respect Coach Reavis and what he's trying to accomplish. I don't know where Blaze is getting his information but someone doesn't seem to like me. I hope everyone has a great year.

  3. I do not wish harm to any players including your son. Honestly, I have not seen alot of other teams judging the coaches decision on this site(except for Cookeville) Ever stop to think that maybe the kids that are in the lineup are there because they are doing the things that the coach asks of them(like showing up for practice). Wow, how word gets around. So many kids(and their parents) think they are bigger and better than the rest. I would much rather have a group of average players that are great kids over a group of great players that are average kids. Props go out to your coach for his discipline. With all the rain in the forecast the suspensions may carry into district play for you guys. I like our chances more and more the more I read this site.

Point taken. Good luck to you guys this year.

  4. Off night for us last night so out to Lavergne I go to watch Siegel. Mick and Willenborg .... there are a bunch of kids in the area that need a summer team to play on so maybe you two guys can use your coaching expertise in that manner instead of coming on here and telling everyone how much more you know than your coach. Mick.. maybe you would not be so judgemental about things if your kid was healthy and in the lineup. Oh I forgot...he wouldn't be in the lineup anyway(3 game suspension) Willenborg.......So the kids in the outfield should not have been there. King had some hits and made a nice catch, Taylor had a big hit, Duvall no hits but heard he had a good game on Monday. By no means did I see a infielder that hits well enough that he should replace any of those outfielders. Had one of your big bats back last night and I was not impressed. There might be a couple of infielders that should not be in the lineup(shaky defense and no hitting). 1 kid couldn't even execute a relay that would have been huge if he catches the ball and makes the throw home. Sounds to me like you might be worried about pt for your kid.

Ouch Blaze, I resemble that remark /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Just thought this was the place for armchair coaches to post their thoughts on the team and the lineup. Seems like that's what everyone else is doing on other threads. I support Coach and always have...wouldn't volunteer my time to help the program otherwise. I wouldn't make much of a Summer coach unless you guys need someone to grill burgers or work concessions /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> that I can do. Pretty harsh on the injury Blaze, don't want to wish that on any player and the 3 game suspension will be served and we'll support the team while it is. You must not have seen me at the Lavergne game cheering for the guys, I was over on the right side of the bleachers.

  5. Siegel needs their best hitters and position players in the lineup and in the right spots. The two best offensive and defensive players are currently sitting. In my opinion there are infielders that need to be in the outfield and outfielders that should not be in the lineup. Kosinski is a bonus so far with his home run production and we should be taking advantage of that. We need a dominant closer and hopefully Robinson can help us there soon. Siegel just needs to get healthy and put the best nine players on the field period. It's also the second game of the season and things will get better.

I think there are more than two players that sat last night that could have made a difference but I agree that the best nine should ultimately play, but it's still early. We'll see where we are when that first district game rolls around. Assuming that everyone is healthy I think you'll see the best that Siegel has to offer when we play Oakland on the 17th. If some of the guys are still hurting it will be interesting to see who we send to the plate and how creative Reavis can get. I can only address one of our injuries personally but things are definitely looking good and we're ahead of schedule. Coach will find a way.

    Go Stars!!

  6. Dont take bone bruising lightly. My son battled it for a year. We saw some real good specialists at Vanderbilt about it. Call me and I can give you a lot of info and things to do for it. Just ask any of the Siegel sophmore parents and they can tell you how to track me down. Good luck with it.

Thanks brother, I appreciate that. We're working with Dr Malcom Baxter at the moment and he seems to think based on the MRI results he can have us throwing again in about three weeks. As long as we can make the throw from right field to third without pain we're good to go. Doesn't affect the swing at all.

  7. Sorry to hear about your illness, TheMick. How is your young man's shoulder? Will look forward in watching him soon.

I started a thread about Oakland baseball and no one has chimed in as of yet. Should we go over there and talk to make their thread interesting? LOL - that aught to stir the pot a little. All these other games mean nothing until next week!

The doc says he can start throwing after three weeks of physical therapy. We went in expecting the worst and got great news. Really nothing wrong with the shoulder other than a bone bruise. After the day big Dave had I'm going to have to revise my batting order. How bout Fullerton/Schloss/Shaffer/Robinson/Kosinski? Makes me start trembling just thinking about it.

    Thanks Brother

  8. Will do. But, since we're your rival, and you dislike us, I can't let you sit in the chairback section above the concession. I did think about it though... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I'm jumpier than a long tail cat in room full of rocking chairs during a ball game and can't seem to sit much anyway. But thanks.

  9. What kind of comment is that? Speak clearly, my friend.

And what's the source of your dislike? As for me, several Siegel players play for our summer team, so I enjoy keeping up with "our" players.

Well, you know, home from work sick and too much time on my hands. And as for the Oakland players, I don't dislike them at all. Sinor plays on our Summer team and is a heck of a player. Just don't ask me to like the Oakland program because you are, after all, Siegels rival. We can talk baseball on the 7AAA thread and the players can trash each other and that's cool. Let's save the Siegel thread for talk about Siegel and not about Oakland like Borobaseball suggested.

  10. I am an Oakland fan, and I am very proud of it!

I don't view what I said as an attack, negative comment, or anything else.

    I said

"Siegel has done nothing to merit all this preseason HYPE that I keep reading on here"

It's not a knock on Siegel, just tell me what they have done to get all this HYPE

    See post 154

  11. I have no idea what you are trying to say with this.....I asked a simple question....I don't even know a Southpaw

"However, Siegel has done nothing to merit all this preseason HYPE that I keep reading on here"

You're on the attack Borobaseball in a Siegel thread. It certainly sounds like you're an Oakland fan based on what you said in your original post. Now if we were posting on the 7AAA thread then all is fair game, I understand that. I wouldn't post negative comments as a Siegel fan on an Oakland, Blackman, or Riverdale thread.

  12. I don't care who you like or don't like.....just wondered why there isn't any talk about them

Sticks and stones brother. Give my regards to Southpaw. The journey East may ultimately culminate between an old priest and a young priest. And one other thing...I'm rubber and you're glue.

    Have a nice day

  13. Why is there no talk about Oakland??? Have they not won like 70 games the past two years. They are coming off of a state tournament appearance, and are the favorites in district 7 as long as Mack Hawks is the coach.

I know Siegel is suppossed to be good this year, and Coach Reavis is a great coach. However, Siegel has done nothing to merit all this preseason HYPE that I keep reading on here.

Good luck to all area athletes as they begin the season today

This is a Siegel thread...we don't like Oakland.

  14. Hey Boroman4now - how should I take your first line? The question was asked - don't I have a right to answer and answer accurately (this is a message board for opinions, right)? Didn't mean to come off as a know-it-all but have limited knowledge on this and thought I'd share it. Did I give the wrong information - is it inacurate?

Now, I've thought about the lineup and agree with you on some fronts. MY THOUGHTS ONLY - Neil was playing 3rd some last couple of practices, Schloss and Fullerton were getting reps in the outfield. Question is how does Neil and his knees work at 3rd? If ok, then can you move Fullerton to the outfield till Schaffer gets out of rehab (after Schloss comes back)? I still think that Fullerton and Pearson will need to hit better to stay in the lineup - not a slam on them but it is a big step to Varsity. They both are comming around well - Pearson hit one out Thursday night and Fullerton had several clutch hits with runners in scoring position - and he can make you pay if you bobble the ball whith that speed! David looks good behind the plate but may have problems catching Watson so I'd give Prather the nod there. The rest you listed are looking good. This delima will all will be answered this week and boy it will be fun to watch! I'm depressed that I can't make the game today. I'll see if my "contacts" can keep me up on the skinny! Good luck Stars!

To put things in perspective we must rely on a satirical film with abstruse analogies that address the task at hand...

"In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again". "There will be growth in the spring".

    Thy will be done

    Go Stars!

  15. Despite the mention of Farragut, I don't connect the "arrogance" and East Tennessee as a whole. I know Farragut is from Knoxville, in East TN. I know you perceive them as arrogant. However, it becomes a wide blanket statement when you refer to "arrogance in East Tennessee." Please be more specific, or perhaps you intend to insult 1/3 of the teams in the state. If so, I must remind you that there was more than one state champion last year that hailed from East Tennessee.

I apologize, it wasn't my intent to imply that all teams from East Tennessee are arrogant. The focus was on Farragut and I should have been more specific. Actually, I'm quite surprised to see some of the posts coming from the Farragut folks. Siegel's trip there last year was a positive experience, other than being shelled 15-0 of course. My hope is that just a few are not representative of the entire Farragut program. Good luck this year.

  16. Yes, it does. No, I don't know what he was trying to say - I don't speak authentic East Tennessee jibberish! Was he trying to bash siegel or Watson? Since you're the message board police, why don't you enlighten us?

I've said good things about the Farragut team on other forums and have nothing but respect for your program. It would be nice to know that you have the same respect for other teams in the state.

Amen brother. I'm starting to wonder if the hospitality the Farragut players, coaches, and parents showed Siegel last year was just an act. Perhaps success breeds arrogance in East Tennessee.

  17. Here's one for you. If Shafers arm is still hurting who do you DH for the season opener? Robinson or Shafer? Can you find a way to get both of their bats in the line up? These are the two leading hitters returning from last year and both hit 5 home runs each.

Shaffer's arm will be fine. The players get on here and read this stuff and it just makes things worse when you speculate about an injury that you know nothing about. He came out throwing 110% after a 7 month layoff and his shoulder hurts. It doesn't bother him when he swings the bat and his X-ray was negative. He'll be ready to go before the season starts and that's all that matters. Forget about Shaffer's arm and move on to another topic.

  18. Heard Siegel looked solid yesterday... how did they fair offensively and deffensively? Watson throw good? how about robinson?

Watson was...well, Watson was Watson. He can gas it up. Townes turned on a Watson fast ball and hit it in the gap to left center but that's just Townes...guy can flat out knock the cover off the ball. Other than that one hit, Watson dominated. Robinson didn't pitch Saturday, he DH'ed or EH'ed or ZH'ed or one of those things...I'm still trying to figure that stuff out, but he hit in the 4 hole. We looked pretty good offensively...Dove looks to be in mid-season form swinging the bat, had about 4 hits Saturday. The rest of the guys hit it around pretty good. There was a lot of wind so both teams struggled with fly balls but I thought the guys played well defensively for the first pre-season game.

  19. Any suprise players to watch out for after the 1st scrimmage?

I wouldn't call it a big surprise but Pack threw a nice third strike hook to get Townes looking. That'll come in handy down the road during those big district games. Our Sophomore pitchers did a good job Saturday as well and should be able to help out when we're deep in a tournament. I thought Dove had a great game at the plate with 3 or 4 hits and how about John King on the hill...fanned three straight. I even saw Bartlett out there throwing peas...is there anything this guy can't do?

    Go Stars!

  20. Good luck to Coach Reavis.

Woke up this morning and there was a different smell in the air. There's a baseball game today. It doesn't get any better than that.

    Go Stars!
