  1. Ball is at opponent's 20 yard line. QB is sacked to the 32 yard line. Defensive holding is called. Where should the ball be spotted for the next play?
  2. Congratulations to Indy on winning the Region. They played well and deserved it. On the other hand...Overton could very well have won the ballgame but gave it away. Overton made 6 errors, leading to at least 4 of the Indy runs. Independence did not make those same errors. Both teams pitched well enough to win. Both teams hit well enough to win. Only one team fielded well enough to win and that was Independence. I do not second guess the Coach. He has done a great job getting 28 wins out of the team to this point. 28 wins is a good year in any book. Tremendous...and we have nothing to complain about. Some coaches have the "win at all cost" approach. Others have the "let's have a good time, everyone gets the chance to play" approach and tend to let Seniors play almost as a birthright. Most coaches are in between, tending toward one extreme or the other. I have my opinion -- which is different than the Coach's opinion. He, however, got them to this point and should be congratulated for it. Maybe getting other players on the field could have made the difference...maybe it wouldn't. Both teams deserve congratulations and best wishes tomorrow night. They'll both be good for years to come with the young talent on both rosters. Good coaching + good talent + hard work = success, and that's what you have with Indy and Overton.
  3. What a game for the 11-AAA Championship. Independence gets a 6-1 lead early on a few miscues by the Overton defense. Overton cuts it to 6-2 in the 6th. In the 7th, Overton gets another to make it 6-3 then Cole Patterson hits a bomb to tie the game at 6-6. In the 8th inning -- Independence gets 1 run and wins it 7-6. Great game. Congratulations to both teams. They were definitely the top 2 teams in the District and it is fitting that they both move on. Overton -- regular season District Champions. Independence -- District Tournament Champions. Both should represent the District well in Region play next week. May very well match up again next Wednesday.
  4. Tuesday night at Overton: Centennial 7 -- Hillsboro 2 Overton 9 -- Franklin 2 -- Cole Patterson, after going 4/4 last night, pitches a complete game for the win. -- Faletta was removed in the 6th, down 4-2 and with a 2-1 count on the batter. -- Sophomore Matt Barrett goes deep in the 6th, extending the lead from 4-2 to 6-2. -- Franklin pitcher then hits the next batter in the neck on the next pitch. -- Connor Moore then goes off the center field fence to plate another. Wednesday at Overton: Centennial / Franklin at 4:30 -- Loser goes home -- Winner then plays Overton at 7pm
  5. District 11-AAA At Independence (bottom half) Friday: Hillwood vs. Independence, 4:30 p.m.; Brentwood vs. Ravenwood, 7 p.m. Saturday: Hillwood-Independence loser vs. Brentwood-Ravenwood loser; Hillwood-Independence winner vs. Brentwood-Ravenwood winner Monday: Losers final; winners final Tuesday: If necessary At Overton (top half) Friday: Hillsboro vs. Overton, 4:30 p.m.; Centennial vs. Franklin, 7 p.m. Saturday: Hillsboro-Overton loser vs. Centennial-Franklin loser; Hillsboro-Overton winner vs. Centennial-Overton winner Monday: Losers final; winners final Tuesday: If necessary Wednesday: Championship, 7 p.m
  6. Congratulations to the Overton Bobcats -- Season district champions 11-AAA with a 12-2 district record, 24-6 overall. Seeds and matchups should be out today for the district tournament starting Friday at Overton. Overton plays in the first game at 4pm. Looks like Indy and maybe Ravenwood are hitting their stride. Overton needs to get their game in gear after a couple of close ones.
  7. They may have a chance since Overton isn't in it. (just some good natured fun, there)
  8. That is precisely correct. On the hill = pitcher of record.

  10. Were they the only ones in the contest?
  11. I've not seen all the teams play, but from what I've heard, seen, and infer from games vs. common opponents, here is how I'd rank them currently. Independence...most impressive win so far among the contenders Then this cluster: Brentwood -- good pitching but can they hit? Overton -- young, but very talented. Can score runs and young pitching is emerging. Centennial -- don't know much Ravenwood -- Have a feeling they'll get better as the season goes along and will finish well Franklin -- will they ever mesh with the coaches? Sadly, this is the last year for Overton in this district as the TSSAA has seen fit to ruin it next year. Overton plays Independence and Centennial this week. What other district games are on tap?
  12. Yeah, well there is a good reason for this. They can basically "recruit" the entire county.
  13. Overton beat Brighton 5-4. On Saturday, they play Pelham, AL. Don't know for sure, but we're told they are the top ranked team in the state of Alabama. Any info?
  14. What happened with Brentwood only beating McGavock 4-0?
