  1. Harpeth dropped a tough one to Ezell Harding 4-3, bats and pitching were pretty rusty. The most positive thing I saw was the new ATTITUDE that the Indians have on the field, very impressive! Gone are the days of dropping your head after a failure and ump stare downs.... They are a different team and will get better as we get some more field time.
  2. There is a whole lot of unknowns going into this season with the new district. The Indians under new coach, Coby Ginsberg have certainly changed their work ethic and attitude. It will also be nice to have a full compliment of assistant coaches, (Black and Halstead) to help manage this young team. Pitching will be an unknown until we actually get started, got lots of arms, just need to see who will step up to be the District guys. The field is in the best shape it has been in for many years after lots of hard work by all. Looking forward to getting started very soon. Would someone please explain to me the logic of TSSAA in making us wait so late to begin practice? What does the rest of the District look like??????
  3. Its my opinion that various factors have contributed to the turnover at Harpeth. Donny Jones was commuting from Station Camp which just got to be too difficult, he was away from his kids too much, and resigned. Walls was just not quite ready for a head coaching position and was let go after two years. Cheatham county in general is tough to keep coaches, supplements are ridiculously low. If a coach compares his time and expenses(travel) to what he is being paid it is a losing proposition. As with all schools you also have to throw in the parent support, or lack of. All coaches in every school face at least a few parents who are unhappy, primarily based on lack of playing time for their kid. We are no different than any other school in this area. To my knowledge no parent has ever successfully "run a coach off" although some have tried. I know they all know this when they take the job, and nobody coaches HS sports to make money. Tough to find a qualified coach that will stay for an extended period of time. Thankfully Coach Ginsberg only lives a few miles from the school, which will definitely help. When you look at the amount of time that is spent year round for field maintenance you have to have someone who loves it, and is willing to invest in the kids and the program for the long haul. It would be nice to have some stability, there is no doubt that it has negatively affected the playing experience for my son to have the turnover we have experienced. It also diminishes the opportunity to play at the next level, as the new coaches have not established a strong college network to help market their players. All of that being said, I am excited about the coming year and have seen a positive change in our program with Coach Ginsberg and Coach Black at the helm. The kids are getting the discipline and work ethic that has been missing for the last two years back. They all seem to respect the coaching staff and are bonding with each other. I am nothing but optimistic that we will be a better baseball team with good coaching. This season is a mystery, as it is our first year since moving to 9AA, but we will be ready. Good luck to all, can't wait to be finished with field work and fundraisers and actually PLAY BALL!!!!
  4. I haven't seen him coach too many games yet, but I would throw Coby Ginsberg at Harpeth in the mix. If his work ethic on the field is any indication of what to expect we should be good. I just hope he will stay for several years. My son is a senior this year and this will be his 5th coach since middle school.

    New Coaches

Coby Ginsberg is the new coach at Harpeth High School, and will be assisted by Brian Black. Coby came to us from Hume Fogg and Brian coached at Lebanon last year. Both are young and enthusiastic, the boys are excited to have them.
  6. Sometimes the stars just align for you.....Harpeth had 9 errors and still managed to win. It was an exciting game with lots of lead changes and a few clutch plays. Camden hit one in the bottom of the 7th with one on that clears the fence anywhere but CF, almost had a walk off. Buma pitched a great game and Burger once again closes it out. Indians are getting it done and finding a way to win, both Camden and MC are very good teams.
  7. Does anyone have the schedule for District this week? I hope we can get it started Monday after all of the rain. I think we(Harpeth) play MC at 7:00. What are the rest of the matchups?
  8. HArpeth completes the sweep of Cheatham last night 14-4. Indidans are hitting the ball well, it will be interesting to see how that continues over the next few days as the competition gets much better.
  9. Harpeth beat Cheatham 12-2 last night, how did the rest of the district do? The Indians continue to swing the bats, Ethan Hurt hit a bomb that may not have landed yet. Cheatham students rode the Indians pretty hard it was funny, even had walk out music for our guys that was hillarious.
  10. Harpeth defeated Stewart Cty last night to complete the sweep. That puts us at 5-3 in the district, we have Cheatham and MC left for the last two weeks. Where does the rest of the district stand and who do you have left? Who will get to host the district by winningthe regular season? It looks like Camden and MC are in the driver's seat at this point. On a positive note we finally got the bats going last night after a 4 game skid. Had 2 HR and lots of good solid line drives. We will probably get rained out today which may not be a bad thing, too many games in a short period of time for our pitching staff to handle. We have Sycamore tomorrow night in a big county rivalry game. Both teams put a lot of emphasis on this game and hopefully the weather will cooperate. We have the tarp out and hope it doesn't blow away. Good luck to all and stay safe in the storms.
  11. Sorry for the delay Beagle, I haven't been on in a couple of days. Harpeth has pretty much laid an egg the last two days. I know Camden always hits well but our pitching just teed it up for them. The 2nd baseman did not play last night and is having some depth perception issues. I think he will be fine and may play today. Indians have not been competitive for 4 games and need to do some soul searching to get things turned around. We are not executing in any facet of the game right now, and our pitching is just awful. We are a better team than we showed with Camden, not taking anything away from Camden, the Lefty on Monday was dominant. He struck out 13 and carried a no hitter into the 5th. We have Stewart Cty today and hope to get back on track.
  12. HArpeth has Camden Monday and Tuesday, then a make up game with Stewart County on Wednesday. Going to be an expensive week gas wise, I hope the Indians will make it worth while. What is the rest of the district's schedule for this week?
  13. Another wet field on Monday! Wouldn't it be nice to be able to play the schedule as it is set? 3 weeks in a row of Monday field issues. I don't know if we can get it ready to play today or not. Who is everybody playing in the district this week?
  14. I was just going on the information he told me...."I am a pro scout for the Red Sox". If it was the guy you are speaking of I hope he was hungry.
  15. Harpeth gets the win(6-4) last night at Creekwood in a good ballgame by both teams. Hats off to the young Creekwood team they are going to win some close games this season. They never change their approach and enthusiasm regardless the score. They were mounting a big comeback last night, thankfully Burger struck out the side in the 6th to stop it. Indians got some good hitting last night and good defense. Still have to clean up a few errors to have the complete game.
