You are halfway right about whos fault it was but Union County deserves some credit they took Johnson County completely out of their game by shutting them down inside, i think the Union County defense deserves some credit for the game and i believe Johnson County got off the BUS thinking they just had to show up, i talked to a couple of people from Johnson Co. before the game all they were worried about was playing Unicoi on Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I told longhorn07 in another thread just because you beat grainger don't think union is gonna be easy. Looks like that sense of entitlement crept its way in though. Oh well hopefully union takes out unicioi tomorrow night.

I went up and watched Union and Johnson County and was not all that impressed with Johnson County did they have a bad game or was Union Co. that much better , they pretty much controlled the Longhorns.

Well like we tried to tell people on here there not that good away from their gym without their referees. Not taking anything away from them cause they do play solid hard nosed fundamental ball but we all knew that grainger and union were just better teams. Grainger however was not better Saturday night. Is the Union-Unicoi game at chuckey doak Thursday night?

yes i hope our boys dont catch it as well. did grainger beat union with the 122 zone?

I have no idea, I live closer to Johnson county than grainger and I haven't gotten to attend many game this year. I just go by what I'm told which is Union has more players and is a better overall team. Skylar was our equalizer by dropping 30 a night. The smith kid from union is supposed to be a great player but once again that's just what i hear.

you keep talking about j c double and triple teaming MCBEE but all they ran was a 1-3-1 zone. If he was doubled or tripled teamed it's because he dribbled into the zone.

1-3-1 yeah right, Sky was shadowed at least half the game. However when you were in your zone it gave us fits. Thats where having our players sick hurt us cause we just didnt know what to do with the ball.

I think he will be in trouble at college level unless he gets his nerves under control. I think saturday nights game was very competitive you could tell both teams wanted it bad. As long as we stay focused against Union I think we have a very good chance, we play great team ball.

Went to game. Carter looked relaxed and hit everything in beginning.....Catholic looked tight and tenative. KCHS coaches were screaming at players from the outset and looked like panic set in....Coach Buell pretty calm. Looked a lot like CAK game w/Irish and Webb game. Congratulations to the Hornets....you outplayed and outcoached the Irish. Only negative was the peculiar cheer after the game by Carter pointing to the scoreboard.....a little lack of class (if I understood the cheer correctly). Good luck Tue.

lol then every school in east Tennessee lacks class. "Warm up the bus", "Scoreboard", "Hey hey hey.....goodbye". All those chants and cheers are done in every gym at the end of the game. Unless I misunderstood your tone and it was something vulgar then this is just par for the course.

Whats all the fuss about all you guys could combine and still can't get thru AE or Fulton.

Disagree, last year in the regional playoffs skylar kept us in the fulton game by himself. Put him with some of the johnson county post players and a healthy grainger team and I dont think either AE or fulton want any. But thats a moot point now isn't it?

You have dishonest people in every profession. So i can't say that they don't also exist on the court. It is very unfortunate. However, I have seen much more class and dignity in the officials I take the court with than I do in office meetings on Monday. It's tough to make those split second decisions.

 

One thing to take in to consideration. Imagine you are at work on Monday. Your boss or some co-workers, or better yet, someone not involved in your job at all comes by and blasts you for something. Is that going to motivate you, conscious or subconscious, to do a better job??? Probably not. That is what I don't understand about a coach or fans riding an official. For most, it doesn't help!

 

They are still people and they are going to react the same way all people do. Just put the same circumstances in a different situation and see what you would do. I'm just saying......

completely agree with the scenario. I dont get coaches nagging the whole game. It's more than likely not gonna work. lol

I'm glad this is a forum where people's identities are hidden. After some of the responses from so-called Longhorn Fans, I know that Austin would be embarassed to call these people fans of J.C. Some of the things that have been said on here are absolutely insensitive. You must realize that you are talking about KIDS!!! Atwood would never condone what is being said by frauds claiming to be fans of his team. I have known the coaching staff for years, have hung out with them, and have listened to Atwood give our team a pep talk before the Regional game a few years back. If you are a TRUE Longhorn fan, then you should think about who you represent and how your attitude will come off to others, because you are, whether you like it or not, a reflection of Atwoods, the Johnson County community, and the school. To fans other than Johnson County, Longhorn07 does not represent the team, coaching staff, or community at large. He, or she, is just crying out for attention and getting it the wrong way (at the expense of KIDS, tarnishing a great program, and great community). The best thing to do is to ignore and not respond to his an others who speak from the wrong end of their opening. GOD Bless!!!!

No offense intended but I think longhorn07 actually sums up what I saw last night. I can handle being loud and rough and creating a home court advantage but dang. Idk who atwood is but if its the coach who came onto the court after the technical then id say he goes in with them too. Sure it was a blown call, if anything it should have been a double T. But we got calls like that all night and you didnt see any of our coaches on the court with the players BEGGING AND PLEADING with a referee. All our discussions occurred during timeouts. Was it a good game? absolutely. Did people get a little carried away with it? yes. Am I bitter about it? nope, we just didnt do what we had to do to win. Like i posted earlier in another thread last nights crowd does not reflect on the county or the school for me. People just got a little too excited last night. I know people are better than what they showed last night.

I understand the distance thing but those perceptions are made by a few quick things. Home team, coaches, players, A ref can get any one thing he doesnt like about a team and have a negative view of it. Im not saying all refs are impartial but you yourself will have to admit you have seen a referee blatantly make a call for one team when everyone in the gym knows its the wrong call.

Was that game yesterday? Idk the answer to your question though. They have their biases and they act upon them. Some more extreme than others.

maybe you saw that, but that is not the norm i can assure you. it was also said that a grainger fan with grey hair ran down the steps and was flipping a middle finger towards the court. like someone said every place has some over reacting fans.

does union have as good of shooters as grainger?

It did happen. The fans and cheerleaders did exactly what I posted. As for Grainger players being sick, 2 starters were over the flu one day, McBee has been fighting it for a couple of days, and one of the subs was on the verge of having the flu, and threw up 8 times after the game before he could get out of the locker room. Had Grainger been healthy the play would certainly have been different, and the outcome would not have been what it was either. Johnson County has a tough team, a good playing team, but when they are all healthy, Grainger could hold their own. Good luck Johnson County in the Region. As for the technical, I couldn't see what happened, but I did see two Johnson County players hem McBee in under the goal and undercut him and not get called. I guess the bad calls were pretty well even.

not saying he did or didnt put him in a leg lock but the way the officiating was last night against us I would have put the kid in an ANKLE LOCK for good measure. Oh well, just a shot in the dark lol. I went through hampton last night to get to JC, Love how the town is real bulldog oriented. Makes me think the high school is a big deal in town. Any chance they get to play another home game? Id like to check one out.

it's a very tough place to play and they do get a little wilder up there than most places...

I agree, I mean I'm a grainger fan and graduated from the high school but dang that's one of the toughest and loudest gyms I ever been in. Not saying its tops because there are plenty of passionate fans around ET. I enjoyed the visit last night. I just hope the stuff about sportsmanship was a one time occurrence last night. I know those people are better than that.

Nobody here making excuses, we didnt play well enough to win the game and you did. It is what it is. Im not saying that had the refs called it even last night we would have won ( I often wondered during the game if some of our players could even pass me the ball and I was in the stands unguarded!.) However I wouldn't jump on my high horse too quick and tote the ole johnson county horn. Union is a fine team and we needed a little luck to beat them as most teams do. Don't let overconfidence get you blown out of chuckey doak on tuesday.

Great job this season Grizzlies! It's sad to hear you had to finish the season with three starters sick with the flu. You all had a great year and I for one enjoyed watching all of you this season. Good luck to Skylar, Justin, Roy and Shaggy in whatever you guys pursue next. You will be greatly missed next year! Best of luck to Skylar in his decision making process in the coming weeks. Also, has anyone talked with Justin? I know he would be capable of playing somewhere if he was interested in doing it. Great job this year by Coach D, Coach McBee and Coach J. Thanks again Grizzlies for a great season!

Watching Hump sit over there last night knowing there was nothing he could do was a hard thing to watch. I admire his heart and grit though for trying to play through it when the boy could barely even stand. Congrats to all the Grizzlies though on a great season. Its a shame it had to end that way though.

Seven I got a pretty good feeling we wont be hearing you around these parts much after tuesday night. Your team barely beat our subs because we all had the flu. And you seriously think the refs had our back? WOW! First half Ill give props to the horns, they outplayed us in every aspect of the game. Second half you all got dominated and the refs held us at bay. Skylar and the guys are fine with it, I talked to a couple after the game and told em there was nothing they could have done. The refs handled their business and it is what it is. Put Hump and farmer in healthy though and there is no way even the refs could have held us off. i think it needs one. The Grainger-Johnson County game tonight would have been an exciting one had Johnson county not held the ball for 3 minutes a posession. It was still a good one though
