  1. With all due respect, I saw this team play seven games last year and I saw 3 maybe 4 players that had above average talent. The QB has some talent, the big DT (90) could play for anyone. The RB (34 I think) got hurt but was pretty good. The big offensive lineman was decent, but he did not dominate the way he looked like he could have. That was about it. The little DE/WR kid was fast, but he got beat around some.
  2. Coaches are only as good as their talent. In Texas my junior year, the AAAAA champions went 14-1. My senior year they went 2-8 and got blown out in 6 of those games. Same coaches 365 days apart. Also a little note that supports my original post. If I remember correctly, the coach at South-Doyle and the coach at Oak Ridge resigned around the same time. The thread about Oak Ridge's coaching search is 58 pages, the South-Doyle page is 5. Not that it is scientific, but the community interest is about 0.
  3. I went to high school at Dallas Carter High School and we said a prayer as a team before every game and in times of injury or deaths in the family. I can't believe the Supreme Court feels the need to get involved.
  4. That is the question. In the meantime, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. Time is a waistin!
  5. I was not around for the old coach and have not ever meet him. I just know that from what I have seen on the court, football field, and in the stands, blaming coaces is the last thing anyone should do.
  6. That makes more sense. Who are the two speedy kids you were refering to in the backfield?
  7. Now that is some great info. Two schools that hated one another brought together. Add to that no winning tradition at either school. That explains a lot.
  8. I do not know the answer to your question, but I would say after last nights dismal offensive performance (24 POINTS in a BOYS game) he might have jump off the bridge. They easily missed 20 wide open shots. If this is the best the school has , I wish Coach Barnes well at his new school
  9. What? Will the new head coach not set the dates for spring practice? will he not need to assemble a staff?
  10. So you think the problem is the coach or his coaching style. I have no clue about what kind of man he is or how he relates to his players. So I cannot speak to this issue. It still does not answer the question of the lack of support from the community or the lack of participation of the students. I saw a comment on here that they will not play for that "lame" team. Maybe that is the problem, a "losers" mentality. If you are a baller, you play regardless of who the coach is? JMO
  11. The QB is back? That is good. I thought he was a pretty good player. If I remember correctly, all the backs were seniors. Am I forgetting someone at RB?
  12. Can you elaborate on this point? What exactly is a players coach?
  13. Any updates? Also, observer who are sum of the kids the new coach will be counting on?
  14. I totally agree. My point is not to run the coach down. I played basketball,, and I see what he has been trying to do. I am simply asking about the poor support of the community and students.
  15. What? if they don't play for South-Doyle, then who do they play for? my high school was very average in football and basketball, but all of us true athletes wanted to play. I don't understand. Can you explain?
  16. I asked this question on the football board, but I thought I could ask it here as well. What is the problem with the high school athletic department at this school. I grew up in Dallas where high school sports are huge, and I moved here almost two years ago. I have attended several football, basketball, and baseball games. I really am surprised at the apathy the community and student body show for the sports teams. Granted, what is on the court right now is not good (6 combined wins between the girls and boys programs). Their basketball coach was a very successful coach in Georgia according to the Georgia high school website. I know their big kid got hurt, but they were struggling before he went out. What is the deal?
  17. Really? Over 100 applicants? That is an astonishing number for this job. Where did you get this info.? I have a general question for all the folks in SK. I have been living here for almost two years now. I grew up in Dallas and high school sports were absolutely huge. I have been to most of the home football games and several basketball and baseball games. The community apathy for the sports is awful. The football team, at least in my opinion, was pretty good two years ago. This past year they were not very good and at times did not play hard. The basketball team this year is in a word..terrible. And the girls team may be even worse. Last years baseball team was not even competitive in the 4 games I saw. What's the deal? If you listen to the fans, what few there are, they complain about coaching. But with all the sports struggling the way they have, I have a hard time believing it is all coaching. I hope the new football coach, as well as the new baseball coach, get it turned around.
  18. How will the Cherokees Rebound after a disappointing year following a state tournament appearence the previous year? Who will step up?
