  1. Here is my take on the SD program. 1. Lack of community support . You can always find a seat at a Cherokee game. Most of the time near midfield. Student support also struggles. 2. Lack of depth. Some good players (8, 6) but not enough 3. Parent mentality- my son should be this or that is all I hear in the stands Just my thoughts
  2. Hey Bucguy, maybe this is our answer. NOBODY CARES about football in South Ktown. Sad but possibly true. Actually the support for the entire athletic program is poor!
  3. I have questioned that myself. When I first started watching them (4 years ago) I thought they had a decent team. They played hard most of the time and scored some points. The coaching change did not help things I am sure. I think they are better on Offense this year
  4. Turtle, With AE's test scores, do you really want to start throwing stones about someone's reading ability? As I said in my post, do you think he would apply? The answer is no. That was my point. A coach of his caliber would probably not apply for a high school job, much less a Knox Co. job. As for Cummings, I think he was dealt a raw deal with the new classification system. He has won when he had equal talent. As for not mentioning Duncan, coming off an 0-10 at SD, I do not think he is on top of many AD's list right now (except the AD at SD of course ). I agree with another post on here about how few "real" head coaching opportunities there are here in East TN for minority coaches. In Knox Co., I think AE and maybe Fulton, Central, or West at most. I do not see Knox Co. taking away the one sure minority football job, unless a coach of Quarles or Rankin's caliber were to apply.
  5. Turtle, You cannot be serious. Do you honestly think Carl Torbush would apply for the AE job. I know you guys are proud of your Roadrunners, but do you really think a division I defensive coordinator making over $500,000 would come and coach in Knox Co. for under a $100,000. COME ON MAN!! Let's talk apples to apples. Would AE support a white coach that will actually aplly for the job!! For example, someone like Scott Cummings fom West or Taylor from Bearden? (not implying they are interested)
  6. Do any of the AE supporters think the AE community would support a white coach? I am not trying to start a racially charged thread, but it is a question that I think needs to be addressed during this process. Truthfully, I don't think Farragut or Bearden or Hardin Valley would hire a black coach at this time. That is just my opinion.
  7. You can say that again, MiKees. I have been impressed up to this point with the team and Coach Browning. I hope this was just a bump in the road. Looks like this bunch of teams are fairly close on talent. I have seen East, Seymour, Sevier Co. and SD, and any of these teams can beat eah other on a given day. I have not seen West, but I hear they are also in the mix. Should be a great district tourney!!
  8. South Knox Mane.. 1. AE doesn't have the lowest graduations raank in Knox County Schools... Check your history. If I'm not mistaking, SDHS has the hightest drop out rate in Knox COunty.. 2. How do you know they're not teaching that? 3. Uniforms???? Are you crazy or something yeah right. hahaha 4. This can be said at any school you visit not just AE... AE Band- I disagree I've seen better hip hop bands.. AE has some work to do.. My my Turtle, you have just proven that you are an AE grad. 1. AE and Fulton are the two Knox Co schools that had to undergo a complete overhaul of faculty and administration. How would that not indicate they are the lowest two performing schools? 2. No other school that I know of has had a major theft ring in the football starting line up, had a multiple offender on the basketball team that was arrested last for beating up a teammate, or had two senior football players get into a major brawl with KPD a couple years ago. Not exactly the kind of young people I want running my city government. 3. Your uniforms make Grambling St and Southern University look good! 4. While visiting other schools, I have never felt as uneasy as I did at AE. Maybe it is my own uneasiness. That free parking you speak of behind the visitors section should have a sign up saying park at your own risk. About the band, you took the one positive thing I could think of and made it a negative Now what!
  9. Congratulations to the Lady Trojans!! Represent the IMAC well!

Great to hear about the 'Kees doing well. Who looked good? Obviously got some good pitching. Who threw well?
  11. Boone does not have a chance against Bearden, except that Bearden is coached by Blevins. His teams always choke on the big stage!!!
  12. Have not seen East ever, but I understand they can shoot the ball. Carter is the most athletic team, except for maybe Fulton, I have seen. Wilson is a man!! I would hate to see him on the football field.
  13. Ok, let's just say Pryor wasn't at AE ... Now post something positive about AE..... Okay, something positive about AE...? 1. Extremely high graduation rate... NOPE, feds took it over 2. Athletic programs teach kids to be better citizens... Apparently not 3. Uniforms really look good... Please, the most hidious football uniforms ever made 4. Visiting teams feel safe at and leaving games...I do not think so I found one... YOUR BAND IS AWESOME!!!
  14. You asked Turtle, so here is what I will say. A diploma from AE is not worth the paper it is printed on or it is a one way ticket to big boy jail!
  15. Is this common for Jeffeson Co. not to scrimmage anyone in the spring? Seems like a scrimmage would give a coach a better read on the kind of team he will have. Just the thoughts of a random fan.
  16. I personally do not know enough about Montgomery Village or the "Pea" to compare them. I do know that both are full of desperation and despare. I also know that I have not heard of a kid at South-Doyle being arrested multiple times and being allowed to play. Not to say that it has not happened, I just have not heard of it. While Pryor may not be from WPT, he is a classic case of a kid from a lower-income family who COULD have made it to college based on his athletism. I am not trying to stereotype any kid, but you must admit this happens a lot at schools in the innercities. Being from TExas, I have seen more than a few in the Dallas area throw away millions of dollars being stupid punks. I have been in Knoxville now for almost 4 years and have heard more of this from AE than any other school. As for the Superintendent getting involved in the theft ring, he had to. The amount of media attention the story got determined something had to be done. IF those kids had been allowed to play, it would have looked bad on the entire AE administration and community. Obviously there is a problem at AE with discipline within the athletic department (and maybe school wide but since I am not inside the school I cannot say). Please don't let your passionate fan side blind you to hat fact. Even if the "crime" happens at or away from school, coaches owe it to the athlete to hold them accountable. My coach used to say, "you are a student for 6 hours a day, but you are a Mustang 24 hours a day"
  17. Oh my!What a can of worms to open!! I totally agree with you. I have heard and read on rivals and scout about high school kids running sub 4.4s. I saw a story where last year, according to Rivals and Scout, there were over 200 kids in the 2009 class that ran under 4.4 in the 40. At that time, only 187 had clocked 4.4 or lower in the HISTORY of the NFL combine. In Tennessee, at least east Tennessee, 4.6 is moving. But it is not just the kids, its the parents and even COACHES. I know a kid whose coach said in a TV interview that he had run 4.4 in the forty, but the kid could not break 11.4 in the 100 meters in track. THis just does not compute.
  18. You can have the offensive coaches from South-Doyle. They had a "massive" offensive attack last year ! Seriously, when do you guys go out in the spring? Any scrimmages set? I need some football quickly!!!
  19. When are you guys going out for spring practice? Do you have any scrimmages lined up? If so, where and when. I am a big fan of option football. I would like to come and watch you guys.
  20. I have seen Pryor play a few times over the past couple of years. No doubt about his talent. However, his actions have lead him down a dark path. Unfortunately, he will be living on our tax dollars in state prison soon enough. He will be able to play basketball in the pokey and become a jailhouse legend. Great job young man. You have blown an great opportunity to change your life, but you can take solace that you are not the first person nor will you be the last. I just wish these young people would look to the future and not just the world around them. There is more to life than the Walter P housing project. Use your abilities to get out, or let yourself be sucked down the drain. IT IS YOUR CHOICE!! to the coaches and administrative people in East Knoxville, stop enabling these young men. They were going to let all those kids involved in the theft ring play football, why wouldn't they let a gy who punched a window play?

I hope he does. It would be cool to have to SD players over at UT. The other one over there has sure done well!!! WHat elese should the 'Kees have this year?

I just hope they can win more than they lose. That would be a change from the other sports teams. Kirkland kid is a very good player with a very bad attitude. Hope he keeps his head on straight. Has he received any offers to play college ball?

Not at South-Doyle! Basketball for us was over right before it was for youguys at Seymour, which was sometime in early January
  24. I can only speak about the one finalist I have seen and that is Hall from Morristown West. She is an athletic 4 or 5 who can run the floor and lead the break. She is as well rounded a player as I have seen in high school. One of their fans told me she had a quadruple double in a game. That is insane!!
  25. I just love it when a high school team starts making a post season run, whether it is expected or not. It seems like the entire school feeds of the momentum. Good luck to Greenbrier and Riverdale, as well as Mo. West from the IMAC. I hope someone pulls a GEorge MAson and makes it to the dance!
