  1. Last November I happened to talk with a father of an MBA student at a basketball camp. He said if I was ever interested in hearing about MBA, to give him a call. I held off because Independence is not an "adequate" school as per a prior message, but has very good teachers and an incredible basketball coach in Coach Henrie. I was interested in learning more after seeing that MBA is ranked very high nationally for academics. Contrary to a prior board message, David has more talents than just basketball and actually could be "recruited" because of his "algebra" or english or history for that matter. I scheduled an appointment for a tour and found that there is even more to MBA than academics and athletics. I found that this was a no-brainer decision. The move was an incredible amount of work and so for the youngster saying I was selfish, the only selfish part of this move was the fact that I'm 10 minutes from work versus 50 minutes. But then this helps me to be home more for my kids which would be unselfish. Basketball may have been our first connection because my comminication started at a basketball event, but there was no purposeful recruiting. A prior message said "it would be nice if all kids had the opportunity". All boys do have the opportunity if they are excellent students. There is financial assistance available for anyone who wants to apply and the award is based on financial need and cannot vary if the boy is in sports or not. David has been eligible to play because we moved a long distance. But I see nothing wrong with Coach Anglin maintaining the momentum that the basketball team had. It is a team of really great, hardworking kids and they have been successful. I see these experiences for David as a foundation builder so that when he has a successful basketball career, he will be able to handle both the highs and the lows versus having an "entitlement" attitude. He is only a freshman and has many games ahead to have fun and enjoy something that God obviously has given him gifts. Thankfully, MBA helps all of the boys to develop more than just one gift, growing boys into well-rounded young men.
