  1. Quick word on Perry County - will be an underdog Thursday against Clarkrange, but have been the underdog for 3 weeks now. Avenged 3 earlier losses to Loretto and 2 to Forrest to earn their way here. They're tough, have big game experience, and Brooks is a tough matchup for anybody. If you can't stay in front of her it'll be a ballgame.

  2. If they woulda ran twilight a a halfcourt trap we had w david lee they woulda won. just saying, i was screaming twilight at my computer screen watchin online streaming. but anyways great game men. trophy #8 plus ya get a banner!

Well, that guy isn't coaching anymore, and 99% of the county has Coach Haston's back. I'm ecstatic that he's come back home to coach and that the guy sitting in the chair wore the black and gold and understands what it should be about. Our program is in good hands.

  3. Gotta predict early, because I've got a 5 hr drive to get to Murfreesboro:

FCS is a worthy opponent, and I don't realistically expect a blowout. Back and forth early, PC by 4 at the half. Full court press in 3rd is effective, opens it up to 8 at end of 3rd. No answer for Tucker (he will score 10-12 in 4th alone), PC pulls away and hits their FTs. PC 65-53.

    See you at the Boro.

  4. No direspect meant, but in two games I have not seen anything out of this group of young men that would support your statement. They were scrappy and well coached, but not all that athletic. I would put most of your players in the same league with McEwen, Cloudland and a couple of the Perry County starting five. They are better than average ball players, but not super athletes. Several of these schools have boys that play multiple sports and their programs have done well because of them. IMO the most athletic player in the tournament other than those on BTW and Lake Co. is Jacob Tucker, sorry he just is! In addition, I didn't see anyone on your team that I would mark as a true finess basketball player and Perry County also has some of these. Not saying you can't beat them at this point anything is possible, but if FCS plays like they have been and Perry County continues their run of this week this one COULD be ugly! I just hope that your coach finds a different way to get the edge in this one, cause if the Vikings are rowing hard I will be one angry fan when FCS holds the ball for 30 minutes and the score is 2 to 0!

Teams have held the ball against PC a couple of times this year. PC usually sits back and lets them do it. I hope this is the game where PC responds with a 1-3-1 trap.

  5. Lake County had one of the worst game plans I've seen in 40 years of watching HS hoops, they shot 5% 3's (1 for 20) but could drive the lane at will for layups, they were athletic but not basketball smart

No argument here. Those shots might as well have been turnovers, because the long rebounds negated LC's advantage on the glass. They did the same thing yesterday, but BTW was nice enough to return the favor. PC would have really had their hands full if LC had attacked the rim.

  6. Yep, really. You see us play at full force and on our game, and yes. We do have the better athletes.

Perry County just beat a much more athletic team than you. I doubt they're afraid of your athleticism. I'll take country strong any day.

Your press was effective against McEwen today but PC won't try to beat it off the dribble. We'll hit Rhodes or Tucker at halfcourt on the weak side and find out just how good your athletes really are.

  7. First congrats to Perry County. They played the game the way they had to for the win. True the zone will limit fouls to some extend. The refs called to many touch fouls on LC. 21 fts attempts to 3 is very hard to take. Many times in the game LC would get the rebound on a miss shot and get hammered on a stick back with no call. PC was benfited with a bunch of touch fouls called against LC. Tucker is a very good player but walks alot that was not called. He got the benfit of a bunch of touch fouls. PC won the game but probably was not the best team. They were the best team today. PC should gone on and win the title. LC jacked on to many 3 today instead of taking the ball inside were they had the advantage. PC also controled the tempo of the game. PC was not going to run with LC. I think the BTW game took alot out of the falcons. If PC plays BTW in the first round they lose tonight. It is what it is. Just wish the game was called alittle more fairly but that was the cards that were dealt to LC. Not trying to take anything away from PC. They have a good team. Sometimes the best team does not win the hottest team does and that was the case today. Good luck to PC in the final. Please beat the private school. Again not taking anything away from PC, they cannot control how the refs called the game. The falcons had to over come that and did not.

Cry me a river. If you gamble on defense and get out of position, followed by jacking up 25 footers when you have the ball, you really shouldn't expect the fouls to be close. You made the same mistakes today that BTW made against you yesterday, and PC was good enough to make you pay for it.

  8. Perry County has an excellent chance to win this game. I'd play a soft 2-3 zone and let LC throw it around the perimeter. They are careless with the ball and happy to shoot a 3 if the 1st option on the block isn't open. They'll hit a few, but not enough to beat you from there.

  9. Nobody should be smack talking at this point because everybody in the tournament deserves respect. Bragging about your team or hoping they will win is great, but underestimating teams is a mistake. As you said, nothing being said will add a point in the end. The games are in less than 24 hours and only then will we see who comes out on top. Until then, good luck to both teams. I am pulling for PC in this game because I want McEwen to play them in the end, but both of the teams have made it here for a reason.

I hope you are considering a career in coaching. You understand the game on the court, respect everyone involved, and have no problem speaking out when people get off-course. Hats off to you.

Hope everyone plays their best tomorrow and leaves it all on the court. I cried for an hour after East Robertson beat us in '89, and think back to missed opportunities almost every day (especially during March), but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Certainly hope PC wins tomorrow, but if Wartburg proves to be the better team, good luck the rest of the week.

  10. I'd say the games from Wartburg are in the 6'6'-6'7" range. Fountain is a tough match-up because he has perimeter skills and can jump out of the gym. The key for Wartburg to me, however, is simply adjusting to the big gym. Wartburg will shoot from anywhere at anytime, but playing at the "Glass House" is different than a high school gym, especially Wartburg's gym with the back wall being within 15 feet of the court.

I think you are correct, and that this is probably PC's biggest advantage going into this game. It often takes a half to adjust, which is why you see a lot of 20-17 halftime scores in the 1st round.

  11. Wartburg does have a few lengthy guys and I would definitely say that Fountain is the shorter of the 3. With that being said I really don't think that Dyer or Hamby is 6'9". Either way they all need to eat some meat and taters. Like others have said Fountain does impress with his all around offensive game. He can play inside or out but he is deadly from about the charity stripe. His defense is above average as well. It will be a good game and both teams better bring it.

You had me at "meat and taters". Should be a good matchup. Look forward to seeing the Fountain kid play. Maybe Mr. Football can move him off his spots and make him hit some tough shots.

  12. Would love to make it for this game Thursday, but can't get up there until Friday, hopefully to see the winner play Perry County in a great semi-final matchup.

I expect this to be a close game to the end, with Lake County pulling it out by 5-7 pts. No disrespect to BTW, but this is the kind of game where your weak schedule will hurt. Too bad you got it 1st round at state.

  13. I'd go full court press into a 1-3-1 trap during the 1st quarter, possibly 3rd. They will have a difficult time playing under control. Rest of the game Box and 1 with Dill/Hill on Farmer. Attack the basket on offense and make MTCS defend. They don't have the depth to absorb many fouls. Tucker is an extremely tough matchup for them tonight.

Don't get into a 3 pt shooting contest with them. It would be their best chance to pull off the upset. PC should play in the 70's and defend well at home. PC 74 - MTCS 58. See you next Thursday.

  14. Bobby Montgomery was an all state player for Collinwood back in the 1960s. Sadly he died young. You probably played against his son who was a really good player too but I can't recall his name at the moment. He was a dang good football player too, played wide receiver on some really killer collinwood football teams back in the eighties

But yeah, there have been a lot of great ballers from the Montgomery family tree at Collinwood...Logan is definitely one of them too..just a soph

Yes, that's the guy I'm thinking about. Played PG in the mid-80's. Bobby is the name I remember, probably from my Dad calling him "Bobby's son". Dad knew Bobby from college. Good luck to you guys Monday night.

  15. Doubt it. His dad didnt play at Cwood. His mom did not sure where his dad played but Montgomery is his moms maiden name

My mistake. Thanks for the info. I saw the name and assumed his dad might be Bobby Montgomery. The whole family were good ballplayers.

  16. Yes Montgomery is the post player that missed half the season. Didn't get to start playing til January. Vandychris loves to hate on him for some reason... maybe jealousy. IDK but he is just a sophomore that missed half a season. Give him a break. No he has not played near to his potential yet. Give him another year and a healthy season. Could be looking at total domination in the post position

Pretty sure I played against his dad. Those 2nd and 3rd generation District 12 guys are tough! PC has several of them this year.
