  1. anyone have a score from 2nd game? Farragut v. Collierville
  2. I don't know much about Lexington and JSS this year except what is on this board, but JSS just got completely shut down by Willis of Gibbs to the tune of 2 infield hits and 13 K's. Not trying to flame at all, but if that is the best West TN has to offer, it could very well be a quick exit for both teams.
  3. Good Luck! Hopefully Farragut and Gibbs can both come back from FL with Tourney Championships!! Gibbs plays Friday night at 6:30 in Championship Game against Tate High in Pensacola, FL. You can listen llive via link at www.tatebaseball.com
  4. Gibbs has made the championship game in Pensacola, FL where they will play either Tate HS or Escambia High School. Both schools are 5A schools in Florida, while Gibbs is 2A in Tennessee.
  5. Great Post! I couldn't agree more. I am not trying to bash either one. I have coached against and watched both guys since Dino was 9 and Phillip was 12, and have seen both be really really good. Pro's look at upside while us fans and even alot of D1's are looking for finished product right now. There is a big difference and this is what separates the two players. And to be fair, Willis from Gibbs is probably a better "pitcher" than either one of these guys right now, but doesn't have the mature body of Phillip or the electric "stuff" of Dino. What we as fans, parents, coaches and players have to realize is that "right now" doesn't matter as much as "what will be", which is exactly why Dino is the better prospect. Phillip is a great competitor while Dino is a freak athlete. And to answer your question Farragut U., just as NETfan said, alot of the best could care less about USA team. While it is a great honor to be selected, alot of guys choose to play showcase instead. Dino has been playing for the top EAST COBB team, (best program in nation) while Phillip is playing USA. Just a different path, not better or worse either way. Alot of people (and scouts) feel that Phillip is near his ceiling, while Dino isn't even close to his ceiling yet. As for Connell, I have had the opportunity to coach and watch him as well, and he has good velo but he isn't close to Phillip, Dino, or Willis in my book. He does have a high ceiling though. Will be a very solid prospect.
  6. Pfiefer>>>>>>>>>Norris. Stats don't lie. Norris is inconsistent and cannot handle pressure. Pfiefer, meanwhile, is 2-0 in STATE CHAMPIONSHIP games. This comparison is a laugher. It's like saying Taylor Mays is better than Eric Berry just because scouts like his measurables. Too funny. Pheiffer = Solid D1 SEC Caliber pitcher 5th to 25th round. Norris = Exceptional Pro Prospect Top 15 pick of 1ST ROUND.
  7. Gibbs won tonight over National powerhouse Tate High School in Pensacola, FL 5-3 in 10 innings. Gibbs pitchers Justin Willis (6 innings 8 K's), Brenton Bates (2 innings 6 K's), and Jacob Turner (2 innings 2K's) combined to shutdown Tate. (Turner's 1st outing of year). Tate has had 54 players drafted, while winning 12 Florida State Championships in 5A, and 1 National Championship (Mythical) Huge win for Gibbs and East TN.
  8. Let me preface by 1st saying I dislike Farragut very much, not the kids, just the arrogance and entitlement. BUT, anyone who thinks there is a better team than Farragut in East TN is either drunk, disillusional, or just plain stupid. Someone may beat them occasionally in a 1 game setting, but no chance in a best of 3 or 5. Farragut is simply way too deep on the mound. I will say the only two teams with slightly (maybe) comparable pitching in K-town is Halls, and Gibbs, Also Science Hill. Farragut also has the best player in the State in Delmonico. The only thing that hurts Farragut a little is now Pharr is gone and Buckner is not even on the same level. There are several better coaches in town than him. Farragut used to have the best depth, best coach, best boosters. Depth is the only one they have for now. We will see how long that lasts before CAK, GRACE, AND CATHOLIC, start taking those players away. I don't think it will take much time at all.
  9. Durand is a very good YOUNG lefty. Thomas is pretty good as well. But neither are at the level of Pheiffer, Norris, Willis, or the other Kid from Daniel Boone. I have seen Durand throw 2 times this year, and he is 81-82 at best. I saw it on the stalker. He will be very good, but not close to 84-85 right now. For my money I'm taking Dino, Pheiffer, and Willis in that order. Durand would prob be top 10 lefty only but not near top 5 yet. Also don't forget Owenby from Powell also a soph. lefty in the 81-82 range with really good stuff. He would also be ahead of Durand right now based on his experience at the Varsity Level last year and he is Powell's #1.
  10. Gibbs win 4-0 at Pigeon Forge. Willis had 14 K's while giving up only 2 hits and 3 walks going the distance. Carter threw very well for PF as well. Rematch will take place later in year.
  11. PF lost 7 starters while gibbs returns 8 from a team that split a pair of 1 run games with PF last year. Advantage Gibbs.
  12. That is a good point! I want to see how SC does this year against what appears to be a slightly tougher schedule than last year. I thought the knock on SC last year was their overall lack of quality opponents outside district. I am glad to see Traywick step it up a notch this year. It will be interesting to see how SC and Seymour compare when both are throwing their 1's and 2's against each other. Seymour also was pretty young last year and return most all of their lineup. I have not seen SC play but have heard alot of good things about this team from several people who have. Aside from the head to head when neither threw their best, I think the biggest difference between Seymour and SC is the perception that SC still has alot to prove before they are considered one of the better teams in the area. Seymour has been good to great for most of 25 years, so most give them the benefit of tradition. SC may be as good or better than Seymour this year, but until they prove it, SC will continue to chase Seymour for bragging rights and now even more importantly, district titles. Good luck to both schools in what will quickly become one of the better rivalries in the area.
  13. One thing I think we can all agree on is that the overall level of HS baseball has measurably improved in the last couple of years. Take a look at teams picked to go to state in East TN this year, along with several others who have a legitimate chance. There are not many "2 team" districts anymore. Good luck to all!
  14. You are probably correct, but you must remember that the IMAC is now much different than in years past. South Doyle and Seymour both have recent State Tourney trips, and SC seems to be steadily improving. I think the book is still out on SC as an overall program, but they have gotten better, we have to wait and see how much better. Out of district scheduling will tell us alot about the IMAC teams, as they will beat each other up in district play.
