  1. No at all. If a player is playing in the summer and fall more than likely that is the only sport they play. So they should be stronger players. I don't know what teams you are watching but there are high school age boys playing in the summer who play some of the best teams in the country. Chatt Baseball Club, Chatt Cyclones to mention a couple. I wish I woulda said that. Wait, I think I did.
  2. I think Ooltewah started 5 or 6 Juniors last year. They have a very good #1 starter in Garrett Baugh. Combine the two and they are my pick in Chattanooga. If you disagree, post your pick.
  3. Anyway, back on the original thread topic, I would say...Ooltewah will be the best around Chattanooga.
  4. Chattanooga area scrimmage weekend is next Saturday. The scrimmages will be held at 6 sites with 47 games scheduled. I will post sites and teams as I find out.
  5. I don't mind buttons being pushed, but you should probably get some facts before you start pushing those buttons or it just sounds like blah, blah, blah. If memory serves me, Lookout Valley hosts a tournament with some of the top single A teams each year. To say they play nobody is somewhat uninformed to say the least. You might want to check this out before you start running that mouth, http://www.coacht.com/tennessee/boards/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=193518. There are some pretty good teams in there. Friendship Christian, Rockwood and Lookout Valley were in Lookout Valley's tournament and these 3 teams were 3 of the 8 that went to the State the previous year. It looks like it is actually YOU that does not know anything about the game!
  6. I know many of the umpires in Chattanooga and would have expected that experienced umpires would have been working this game due to the 2 teams involved. It is disappointing, to say the least, that if this occured as you described, that Coach Dinger didn't get warned and then dumped as he should have. I have seen numerous Lookout Valley games over the past 10 years and have seen Coach Dinger deal with umpires only very professionally. This is somewhat surprising to me. And as far as the umpiring getting worse, from what I've seen, the overall quality of baseball in the Chattanooga area has gotten much, much worse. If umpires are searching for strikes, maybe that's what makes the umps look worse, too. Don't get me wrong, I've yelled at umps over the years too, but if you look at last year particularly, the baseball in Chattanooga was very, very poor overall. JMHO
  7. Rose can shut down LV. I don't know if he can get enough run support though. It may be a 0-0 tie, LOL.
  8. Rose is the real deal. I saw him play this summer. He has to stuff to shut down anyone in A in Chattanooga.
  9. Maybe because high school athletes become college athletes! You have to start somewhere, high school seems like a good place to me if discipline is not taught in the home.
  10. tnbigbear, You said: You agree that some coaches get out of hand. Getting out of hand or arguing, on judgement calls, is against the rules. The umpires I have seen usually don't have a problem with the fans, it's a coach coming out to argue a judgement call, which violates the rules in all codes of baseball. The umps shouldn't have to take it, they should eject the coach. If the coach does enough to be restricted, he's done enough to be ejected in my opinion. You said: I don't know what you make, but I wouldn't work my regular job for only $20/hour. You said: You're kind of arguing with yourself. You stated why evaluators and directors can't be more selective, the talent pool of quality umps is too small. You said: Bull. How many kids are getting surgery due to throwing too much? Very few, I would say. And, there are dang few HS pitchers that can't throw better as seniors than they did as freshmen. That makes no sense. And as far as moving to the next level, less than 5% of HS pitchers move on to the next level anyway, so you're worrying about nothing. The original topic was assistant coaches, along with their head coaches, being restricted for arguing a call. I think the actual rule is if the assistant leaves their coaches box to argue a call, or something to that effect. What's wrong with that rule? Assistants aren't supposed to do anything but tell the runner to go to 2nd, tell the runner to get back on a pickoff, and collect batting gloves. The assistant coaches arguing was obviously a problem or the rule wouldn't have been put in place.
  11. Red Bank Hixson Central (watch out East Hamilton and the Garland effect)
  12. Here's the District: District 6 Tyner (Chattanooga) (FB) Chattanooga Central (Harrison) (FB) Howard (Chattanooga) (FB) Brainerd (Chattanooga) (FB) East Hamilton (Apison) (FB) East Ridge (Chattanooga) (FB) Hixson (FB) Red Bank (Chattanooga) (FB)
  13. You may be an idiot. 1. Coaches can't argue judegment calls in high school baseball, it's against the rules. 2. Dumping the coach calls for a mandatory $250.00 fine for the coach and a 2-game suspension. 3. A coach "standing up for his team" is usually showing up the umpire. He should be dumped. 4. The umps won't be different on the new rule, just like fblover said, there is little room for interpretation, it's black and white. 5. Umpires don't hold grudges, they could care less who wins or loses. 6. Hiring better umps to enforce these new rules? That makes no sense.
  14. But, if the head coaches and assistants act the way they are supposed to, you don't have a problem of any kind. In the post season, you will probably (hopefully) get the better umpires. They have probably called this rule consistantly for the entire season. The problem is that your mediocre umpires that the teams have played with probably were afraid to call it, so....
  15. And next year, it goes to $70 per official. Geez, those umps are making a fortune.
  16. I know the topic is, biggest rule change in years, but the worst rule change in years is restricting coaches to the dugout. If a coach does enough to be restricted, he has done enough to be ejected. The reason this new rule regarding assistant coaches is in is to make the head coach accountable for members of his team, including the assistants.
  17. No way. Throwing over 100 pitches does not affect the rest of their lives. And what make 100 pitches the right number anyway? Yall all worry way too much about Junior.
  18. Tottaly agree!!! That is a terrible new rule. They only new rule they should have added is put a pitch count limit on pitchers. No kid should throw over 100 pitches and i know that most teams dont have enough talent to do this but it needs to be done. The assistant coach or the head coach should not question judgement calls anyway. It's in the rule book, judgement calls should not be questioned. However, when the head coach does question a judgement call (thereby violating a BOOK rule), he should be the only one on the team to do it. The assistant/first base coach's job is to tell a runner to go to 2nd or to get back on a pickoff attempt or to take batting gloves. PERIOD! Pitch counts?? What difference does it make if most HS pitchers throw over 100 pitches? What are they saving their arms for? Less than 5% move on to the next level, so what difference does it make?
  19. Wait a minute. You ask this: Then you post this: Seems like you already know the answer to your original question.
  20. Apparently, you've never heard of http://tssaa.org/MiddleSchool/home.htm, they kind of oversee middle schools, too.
  21. Actually, it's DRIVEL, not DRIBBLE. driv?el??/?dr?v?l/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [driv-uhl] Show IPA noun, verb, -eled, -el?ing or (especially British) -elled, -el?ling. Use drivel in a Sentence See web results for drivel See images of drivel –noun 1. saliva flowing from the mouth, or mucus from the nose; slaver. 2. childish, silly, or meaningless talk or thinking; nonsense; twaddle. Your argument would make more sense if you did.
  22. Where, pray tell, is Greene county?
  23. Obviously, this has to be Mikey!
  24. I'm not sure where you are going to watch summer and fall baseball, but if you can, get down to AT&T Field. The Chattanooga Cyclones organization hosts several summer and fall tournaments featuring many of the elite players from the Chattanooga, Bradley County and North Georgia areas. Also, the Chattanooga Baseball Club, coached by former Ooltewah coach, Joe Wingate and current East Hamilton and former Soddy Daisy coach, Steve Garland, play out of Chattanooga State in the summer and fall. These are two of the elite select organizations in the area and the tournaments they host are always full of top notch talent from around the South. Teams from Memphis, Jackson, East Cobb, Nashville, Knoxville, etc. are always part of the field.
